The problem with Kino Lorber isn't usually the master but the subpar encoding done by them (or whoever they subcontract that to). So if i get to choose between Kino Lorber and Arrow based on the same master, i'd take the Arrow release 10 out of 10 times.
I picked up the Arrow IB from your link, used Arrow reward points to bring the price below the Blueray price. It’s not my favorite Tarantino movie, but it’s a good one.
In 1986 I was 14, at that time up here in Canada some R rated films were rated AA here (Adult Accompaniment 14 and older). I did see Trick or Treat in theaters way back when and even though I was right into all the horror stuff (Elm Street 4 was the first of the big slasher releases that was rated AA) I maybe saw it once more when it made its way to VHS. I'm kinda selective to what I buy on physical media in my 50's so I can't really see myself paying almost $100 CDN for the film. I already pre-ordered Inglorious Basterds from obstructed view up here as I have and could re-watch that many times more. Congrats to all that got their pre-order for Trick or Treat..

I think Arrow is quickly becoming the premiere boutique label. It feels like Criterion used to hold that title, but since 2020 it just feels like Arrow has been coming for their lunch money. The Gamera set, Robocop, Pitch Black, Inglourious Basterds, Friday the 13th 09. The Conan stuff, even material like the Last House on the Left remake, Versus, the Chronicles of Riddick, Tremors. They just kill it consistently. I think they crush Criterion and Shout Factory these days.
Not a fan of that coverart for The Cell but that was an instant preorder for me. Been waiting for that on 4K for a really long time I wouldn't say it's a *great* movie but it's definitely a visual treat

Trick or Treat is actually a fun film, but not $66.66 fun. 😂I already have the 4k steelbook of Inglourious Basterds so I probably won't bother with the Arrow. The Cell I pre-ordered right away. I love that film. I might buy the Usual Suspects. I've never seen the film, but the price is good and I probably should get it.
I was able to snag a copy of cover variant C of "Trick or Treat" (1986) directly from Synapse. I liked all 3 covers quite a bit but option C appealed to me the most. Pretty pricey but well worth it in my opinion as this is one of my all time favorite 80's horror movies.
There’s nowhere information on Inglorious Bastards being a new transfer! Not even on Arrow’s website in the US nor in the UK. If they’d done a new transfer, although I personally would not understand why as the previous one is perfectly fine, they would had mentioned it.
The soundtrack for trick or treat was done by metal band fastway. The CD is arguably better than the movie. But this should be fun revisiting it. The soundtrack is amazing.
"The Cell" BR will be mine, if available here in Germany. There's also "The Cell 2", but I think this isn't a sequel. Never watched it. What's going on there? About a real continuation of the 1st movie, never understood there isn't more going into nightmares, you could easily do about everything with that for horror & character-drama.
The steelbook boxset of IB that came out in the summer was better. But both that and the arrow 4k use the same 2k upscale transfer, not a noticeable difference over the bluray. If it was a new scan it would say on arrow . All the other new scans say brand new scan from whatever source. I messaged them and they didnt even seem to know. So annoying. Edit. I had a reply from arrow customer services chat team. Its the same source but may have a different encode. So may have less compression than previous releases.
Arrow's encodes are exceptional. There are examples of Arrow and Criterion both using the same sources as other major studio releases, and their presentations simply delivering the extra goods due to superior encoding, contrast/saturation adjustments, etc

What kept Incubus back was the Director insisting on only shooting the film in that ridiculous made up language Esperanto, with no English dub. Absolutely crazy for a film maker or studio.
I’m not paying this much for physical media. I have a family and a house that’s more important than movies. The fact that they are only doing a limited run of the release is frustrating. Trick or Treat is a movie I’m actually interested in but I’m not putting it my credit card and getting into debt just for a movie. It’s not worth it and if boutique labels want to charge over blown price for their releases that I’m going to get out of the physical media collecting.
I hear ya. I have only purchased one movie from them-‘Cemetery Man’-and it was about the same price as this release. The only reason I got it was (1) it was a title that went from DVD to 4K, but more importantly (2) the timing of the year was good-early December-so I treated it as a Christmas present purchase, which it honestly was, but for myself. But I did initially wonder if I’d have to take out a second mortgage to cover the price. This label really has to find a way to bring their prices down!

@@pieterbalk-ht7kq my personal criticism of the current 4K, that I can tell with my eyes on my OLED, is that it looks a bit oversharpened. It's not horrible it still looks good but it's what I notice. One might argue that a better encode isn't going to fix oversharpening of the master, but I'd argue that compression algorithms can definitely exacerbate compression artifacts stemming from edges. The "problems" with the existing image I'm seeing may be oversharpening of edges, or subtle compression artifacts, or some conflation of both...and who knows where in the data pipeline the original oversharpening was applied - don't know for sure but a new encode can be an opportunity to clean some things up. I don't think Arrow would be doing it unless they felt like they can bring new, more organic-looking life to it. We'll see

I’ve heard mixed things about the 4K of Inglourious Basterds. It was an upscale of a 2K intermediate. That is kind of a lazy release.

You do have your tv properly calibrated and no artificial sharpening or whatever other artificial options on? And your TV in Cinema mode?
Trick or treat is a good 80's horror movie. But 66 bucks for one movie not worth 66 bucks just for a movie. And i can care less about inglorious Basterds getting a 4k releaes. Was not a fan of it very overrated. And the cell is a very good & creepy movie
Another cash grab from Arrow releasing the same exact transfer from the previous release of IB but now you could double dip for the box art along with extras like poster, booklet, and postcards for 45.00 dollars guys 😮... Arrow sucks and they need to stop scamming people releasing the same crap.
Oh I would have guessed it was a new transfer seeing as the last was criticized. Arrow is a really good label. Best packaging and decent prices.
@@robertfaulkner1824 Whoever says the 2021 transfer is bad are clearly gaslighting and have a terrible set-up and a crappy T.V. cause i own it along with a Samsung 90 inch QLED and all i could personally say is that the transfer is absolutely stunning and people need to check there eye vision.

At 17:44, sadly one of them is from Alexandra Heller, the feminist acivistist (look her up if u want, pretty ugly...haha) who doesnt have much to say more than having agendas in her commenteries instead just focusing on a movie´s history, like some agrreeing with me too she is a nobody when Ken did the Trick or treet video some days ago and I commented below among others too. Just employ people who arent acttivist but the state of the enterainmment history is filled with this feminist writers in Hollywood, videogame studios and now within 4K releaes, they are parasites ruining movie and games that we love. These actvists in end of the day arent gonna watch the movies they made or the play the videogames they made, no, they just want to; like Alfred said in the dark: "They just want to see the world burn" or in this case the entertainment world burn. One positive thing one can say when it comes to these 4K movies where some activists are in, is that they can be skipped and just listen to the director´s insights or others who has some good things to say :)
I bet trick or treat sucks as a movie so fomo has no effect here.
