Perfect Meri, But the importance of eliminating the odour of the chicken meat by washing with lemon juice and water should be highlighted. I tought this would be viewed by foreigners as well. Thanks for the yummy Doro.

Meron Afrikawit i’m having a difficult time with the Injera. It’s not as fluffy when I make it. Nothing like when go to the market or an Ethiopian restaurant. I’ve attempted to make it several different ways with several different recipes, and I follow the recipe exactly when cooking. Soft thicker injera isn’t what I’m able to produce. The taste is fine it’s just the texture. Mine can can turn out thin, crispy and not the right texture at all. Can you help me?
@@SunShine-tj2op do you let the mixture sit for basically a whole day? That’s how my mum used to make it by letting sit and cooks it the next day. Not sure if this’ll help but thought I’d comment.

You Ethiopians can cook! Caribbean food can't match up as I thought. Stupendously delicious and I didn't have all the ingredients white onions instead, incorrect timing as I was unwell. Ain't that the most delicious thing I've tasted in a long time.
I like your style Meron.Well Done! I am making this for the 100x as a busy working mum I don't retain recipes well at the best times ,therefore I always recap on your channel.
This is actual cool, my mom taught me a different way to cook it, not with butter. But with everything else, i love doro wet. I also cook the chicken for a long time, like an hour and a half ,safe than sorry. Less oil i guess its a problem with me not liking the texture of oil. And we use tomatoes and tomato paste. Also we cook the garlic and ginger with the onions and berbere. I love Ethiopian food and its the first food i learned to cook even tho i am not Ethiopian!!! Tibs and doro wet has to be my favorites!!!!!
Meron Afrikawit Have you done a video on making injera? I love Ethiopian food even though I'm Canadian. My mouth is watering just recalling all of the terrific meals I've had. All at restaurants though. I've tried to make injera so many times I've given up. Thanks for all that you do. 🇨🇦

your video is helping many of us get through this Covid19 quarantine!! Thank you so much!!! How long in total do you think it took you to cook this dish? I heard you say you cooked the berbere for an hour and then the chicken for another hour and a half?
Aww that’s makes me happy. Hope you are staying safe. The whole things takes 4-5 hours because we always cook a large quantity. Yes the berbere need to be cooked for at least 45 mins and the chicken time depends on how fast it cooks.
This is almost like the Ethiopian equivalent of an Indian chicken curry. Doesn't look too hard to make. A bit time-consuming, but otherwise fairly simple.
Yeah you’re right, I’ve cooked this before and it turned out to be a spicy version of Butter Chicken. The recipes as are similar because India and west Africa shared the same trade routes for the passed 2000 years.
Scared me at the begining when you say it is 18 pounds of onion. I see in the description, though, that it's 5lbs. Thank you for the recipe! My friend and coworker brought in Wat to share with me and I enjoyed is so much he gifted me a large bag of berbere his wife made for me. I'm looking forward to trying to make this myself.
Nice recipe that makes me hungry all of the sudden. Few questions for you. Is it okay to put tons of butter in a doro wat? Cause I do personally prefer buttery one more than non buttery one... Is it okay to use boneless chicken breast instead of drumsticks and thighs??? I do hate spittinf of bones while enjoyinf this buttery stew hahaha. Do you think eggs gonna be smashed down if I put eggs in the beginning?? PS. It seems like perfect recipe of Doro Wat Ive seen and watches here in TH-cam.
Hi there, putting a lot of butter is up to you as long as you enjoy it but also but don’t forget the health risk. You can use boneless chicken breasts honestly I don’t see why not even though it might be frowned up on traditionally. Wait till the end to put the eggs in though. Lastly thank you for watching 🙏
@@giftimeron Hahaha. I just laughed when you mentioned health risks for putting too much butters in doro wat. I know butter makes doro wat rich and tastier for sure.

You are right Samisha! I’ll write that in the description box!
Not all raw chicken has an odor.
THE CHICKEN SHOULD BE WASHED WITH ONE TABLE SPOON OF SHIRO AND 1/2 GLASS OF APPLE CIDER VINIGAR AND WATER
Yes girl , that's the main idea. ✌
If I may add I use corn feed chicken.
