One additional thing I will add on the Commander Format Panel that changes things from the old way and protects members: the people on the panel are being paid by WotC. So any harassment directed at those people is now harassment against people under the employ/contract/whatever the deal is of Wizards. That legally changes things quite a bit.

So I was playing the mono-red leyline deck in standard before it got banned, and I had a lot of fun flinging Cacophony Scamps at people using the Burn Together half of Callous Sell-Sword. A great little detail about that interaction is that unlike Fling, Burn Together doesn't require you to sacrifice the creature as a cost to cast it, so it triggers all your prowess-type effects before it actually resolves, boosting your damage. I called the deck Fling feat. Nivix Cyclops.

From my recollection; the Pauper Rules Panel was put in place in response to the community push back on Chatterstorm. Chatterstorm was printed in MH2 in June 2021 and a LOT of Pauper players assumed it was going to be banned on release as pretty much all of the Storm wincons are. And it wasn't. And then a Ban announcement happened and it still wasn't banned. I remember reading about an MTGO event that normally drew dozens of players that only had like 9; most of whom were playing 60 basic lands in protest of the format getting so warped by this storm card. Chatterstorm was finally banned in September 2021. In his article about the Pauper Panel, Gavin did state that the reason Chatterstorm (and some of the cheaper Initiative cards) took so long to ban was because it takes "a lot of discussion, format knowledge, and analysis" to ban a card, something that Wizards did not have for the Pauper format. This panel was WotC's attempt to correct that and to give some official eyes on the format as a whole.
It's pretty funny like a couple of days later they definitely 100% confirmed there were cards you can't play in standard included(Sol Ring, Arcane Signet and Command tower at least- I also dont think the Jumpstart exclusives or Special Guests are playable in standard)
It's so ironic that Time Spiral-Alara was a low point, because that was my first peak time getting into and playing a bunch of Magic. It was pretty crazy how many of the cards I had from that era were super expensive when I came back to the game around 2017.
Is there anywhere to find more info about the "LA Gauntlet" format? I know the MMcast used to talk about the format when it was called "Lunchbox" and how the format had developed to become a highlander alternative but I haven't heard anything about it in a long time.
I mean... it's not like they couldn't have predicted this was likely to occur. You record an episode before a big event and then release it after said event is over...it's just not going to feel as relevant. In fact, I'd say the release cadence of TTC in general just opens them up to this kind of thing happening somewhat regularly, because there's too much of a gap between when they record and release episodes.
@@jacobkristos1214 I don't think it's about being terminally online, or being cryptic. It's just that there's so much news that got dropped in one day, after this episode was recorded, that it's not the kind of thing someone would dive into In depth in a casual comment. While the MSRP is marginally higher than it was when they discontinued it 6 years ago, by and large, the MSRP is lower than what many places charged for product without it. - The overall number of set releases per year is being slowed down. - The details of the wotc Commander panel has been announced and is overall pretty optimistic. - Lorwyn pushed back to 2025 - first image from the new space set next year, featuring spaceships and Tezzeret - a handful of cards from the death race set, along with its name, were shown - A few more details about return to Tarkir were shown

It seemed fun, i wish Wizards would just allow us the ability to play these kinds of games when we wanted on Arena. I donno if i am alone in this but i would actually, give WOTC a fair amount of money(maybe like 5 bucks? 10 bucks?) for the ability to just play momir on arena.

Interesting. Graham says he's never seen Crossways Troublemakers before, but didn't he discard them when he was playing Strefan in the Midnight hunt vs.Crimson Vow Commander game?
Turn 3 or 4 Storm? What's the highest, magical christmas land you could possibly storm off for on turn 4 or 5 after you swing in? Like realistically. An early cast of her does not sound as backbreaking as it looks, oh no grapeshot for 5, maybe? Unless we're im cEDH qnd everyone' playing 0 cost bullshit then yeah, but then we're in cEDH and that just fits right in
It's not too difficult in those colors to storm for cEDH, you have some compact win cons that don't require a lot of storming to make a strong play into an instant win, and in casual decks there is a lot of ability for cheap/free rituals/card draw to potentially do some powerful spellslinging the turn after you cast her. I can envision lists that turbos out wins somewhat consistently on turn 4 and uses her as a finisher both inside and out of cedh, though I imagine it will be a feast or famine kind of commander that ends up being a "you got removal? if not, I win" card.
Yeah so playing against Leyline in BO1 is miserable because you essentially need to have one-mana instant speed removal spells (two-mana might be okay if you win the coin flip) or you have a 20% chance of dying on turn 2, and even if you do there's Turn Inside Out or Felonious Rage which will can generate multiple 2/2s in its wake - plus killing their Heartfire Heroes or Cacophony Scamps may still result in a large amount of damage your way. Blockers are often not enough because both Monstrous Rage and Might of the Meek give trample reliably. The deck is incredibly consistent because of the multiple pieces of redundancy (outside of Leyline which the deck doesn't really need, it just kicks it into overdrive) and runs off of so little mana that cutting mana slots which would be nonsense in paper will still result in a playable hand a lot of the time, partially due to the hand-smoothing algorithms. The game devolves into frantically trying to survive to turn 3 or 4, assuming the opponent missed the 20% of the time they can just kill you on turn 2.
