For clarification, yes Grist can be your commander. Whenever it is not on the battlefield, it’s considered a creature. As a result, while it’s in the command zone, it is considered a creature and is therefore legal.
@@NStripleseventhat’s actually always been the case. That’s why Transguild Courier can’t go in your deck unless it’s a 5 color deck, among other things. It was just clarified in the rules.
You can tell they're tired when Preordain, Opt, and Consider all scry 2 before drawing (we appreciate your 7 hour recording sessions to bring us this!)
Ultimate Tamiyo when it was on 7 is the correct play as it just wins the game. Using 0 mana to draw 40 cards and have no max hand size is unbeatable in that position
@34:20 Summoner's pact could get Disciple of Freyalise, sacrificing the Ezuri and because he can self-pump, Ben could draw most/all of his deck. Play enough creatures now that he could follow it up with an enormous hasty Craterhoof and win. Could easily have been missed, but I'm wondering if there's an issue with going for that line?
@@kobylong605 Snuff Out wouldn't have been able to stop that line. Wheeler had two elves: Ezuri and Fauna Shaman. Ezuri pumps them both and this could have been done in response to the Snuff Out. Assuming Disciple of Freyalise was in the deck, using it to draw basically the whole deck would have worked. The only real problem with the line is that Ezuri pumps in increments of 3, meaning drawing the whole deck is not guaranteed to be possible. Still, there are probably a couple things like Elvish Visionary that would draw the last card or two in case Hoof is literally the last card in the deck.
Serge and surveil... he considered for surveil 2 (it is surveil 1) but later in game 3 he finds a surveil land and doesn't surveil, so I guess they cancel out 😅
Love the show, love the people, it's all good. I kind of wish there was the occasional episode where after playing their matches, they switched decks and played another set. I would be interesting to see how they pilot the decks differently.
This is Canada and it's December, but these gentlemen are wearing short pants. Very curious... 🤔 It's a good day - Serge was on Commander at Home and now there's North 100.
I kinda wish you guys would show the point values as well as the pointed cards in the overlay at the start, for those of us who have some idea of how Canadian highlander works but have no idea why sometimes one player has way more pointed cards than the other xD
I think it would be fun to create a canadian highlander Bingo but for that we would need a list of araund 70-100 bingo tiles to mix and match creating a bunch of unike bingo cards. what are your suggestions for now i have 1. Both players are shuffleing at the same time. 2. Pregame action has taken place 3. going to cheat step 4. turn one pointed card. 5. play more then one pointed card in a turn.
On the Infinite mana turn with Ezuri in play, summoners pact could have got Disciple of Freyalise and could have ETB sacked an huge fauna shaman to draw basically the whole deck and gain the same amount of life. not too sure but probably could have put together a win from their.
You should. Get a friend that's willing to throw some printer proxies in some sleeves and jam some games. I know a lot of people are opposed to proxies on principle but it allows you to jam games and find out what cards you truly want to save up for. My buddy ordered us each a full proxy canadian highlander list and since then we've been using our regular collection to fine tune what we play.
In game 3, Serge did still have a chance to stop Hazel's Brewmaster from coming down that turn even after the tutor, which Wheeler was trying to bring up. If Serge uses Cut Down on the Devoted Druid in response to Wheeler attempting to untap it the first time, Wheeler can only generate 3 mana and will have to wait a turn, allowing Deathrite Shaman to exile the Devoted Druid on Serge's turn. This does lose to Wheeler having a land in hand, which they do mention a bit in the discussion after that game, but I think Serge needs to try anyway there. He already knows his hand can't kill Hazel's Brewmaster.
No idea, but he said the idea behind playing the Deathrite was to be able to kill and exile the Devoted Druid. If he couldn't do that, playing the Deathrite and waiting a turn on the removal was definitely a mistake.
Serge forgot to surveil in the 3rd game off his fetched land!? PS: not killing the fauna shaman... that elf deck is a critter combo deck! kill the tutor.
I want whatever Consider Serge is playing
Glad I’m wasn’t hallucinating
mf Curated
He borrowed the extra surveil from the undercity sewers later
I like that nobody acknowledged it
I love how, with Serge math, with 4 ninjas you have a tribal deck, but 20 black cards is just a splash
Tbf he didn’t say he was splashing he just said he was playing all the cards that you usually splash for
@@DiscardatRandom at the start yes, but he says once during game two "this is why we splash for black"
@@TorePMA oh right good point
@@TorePMA Isn't that just pointing out why these cards are splashed for, not that they are splashes in his deck specifically?
“Force of Will your Cradle” needs to be a future Card Kingdom one inch button. 😂
For clarification, yes Grist can be your commander. Whenever it is not on the battlefield, it’s considered a creature. As a result, while it’s in the command zone, it is considered a creature and is therefore legal.
That much is intuitive but they actually had to make a special rule for Grist so that she also counts as a creature during deck construction
@@AriArchangelSomething like “characteristic-defining abilities are checked during deck construction,” I assume?
@@NStripleseven Well, deck contruction isn't the battlefield you see
And if you exile it with Agatha's Soul Cauldron, that's when the magic happens.

Consider AND Opt both look at 2 cards!? God, I wish I lived in Serge’s world
Bottoming/milling one and then drawing a card is looking at 2 cards
@@kahlt_ Serge looked at 2 cards for consider, kept both on top THEN drew. So surveiled 2 the drew rather than surveil 1 then draw.

*goes to shuffle*

Ultimate Tamiyo when it was on 7 is the correct play as it just wins the game. Using 0 mana to draw 40 cards and have no max hand size is unbeatable in that position
Yeah, I don't know how you can ever think drawing 40 cards is not immediately the correct play 😯
I really appreciate all of the explanations and thought process.
Serge's Consider was so funny xD
Perfect timing with my lunch break. Thank you posting it, happy to watch
Ohh boi am I excited for some Canadians playing Highlander.
Maybe the real Initiative was the friends we made along the way
14:50 Consider isn't quite that good. It's only Surveil 1.
It's ok, he missed a surveil trigger from the Sewers in the next game to make up for it
@34:20 Summoner's pact could get Disciple of Freyalise, sacrificing the Ezuri and because he can self-pump, Ben could draw most/all of his deck. It may have just been missed but also when serge learns the target of pact he could snuff out ezuri in response. Theoretically.

Oh we're so back. I have a genuine addiction to this show and these 2 peoples.
Excellent, as always. Thank you!
I love the show! I'm so excited for the new episodes of Friday Nights.
This was a great matchup to watch, really interesting games there!
Anybody else watching this and going 'hmm', and adding the occasional card to the pile in your Card Kingdom cart?
Perfect timing as always
Love the show, love the people, it's all good.
I kind of wish there was the occasional episode where after playing their matches, they switched decks and played another set. I would be interesting to see how they pilot the decks differently.
That achievement was unearned. Wheeler finished shuffling before Serge was done searching.
Though at 27:00, they shuffled at the same time.
I think Serge is just very excited to be playing these cards, which is why he's slipping up a bit when remembering what they all do
14:50 that's not what consider does
The result of the entire match hanging on a single topdeck. Amazing 😎
Nice. North 100 is one of my favorite formats.
Pretty nice how they're like: "Quick game 5?" and it's actually a quick game.
Wheeler going “who’s on the [format] council?” will never not be funny
I love a North 100 Bo5. Its like a North 500.
I play a UB tempo/reanimator list, but I mostly win with tempo creatures, since the reanimator package has to be respected. It's really fun to play:)
So basically the current best deck in legacy, but highlander
