Thank you Claire, for all your videos. I enjoy them so much, but today in particular. I had to say good bye to my sweet toy poodle Ruby, this afternoon. She wasn't ill and it was expected. She was 16 and a half and she was too tired to go on. When I finally had a chance to sit down I was so happy to see you had posted a new video. You made my day a bit better. Thanks, Susan from Texas

Hi Clare! Thanks for another lovely video. The dischidia is just stunning! Re systemic and beneficials- I read (I believe on the website of where I get mine) that systemics do NOT effect beneficials because beneficials don’t bite your plants, they only eat other insects. I believe they only eat live ones, meaning even if the concern is they eat insects that have eaten the pesticide, that should be quite a small percentage because the pests die relatively quickly after ingesting pesticide, and therefore shouldn’t be much of a risk to beneficials.
Also Ross “nothing naughty!!” The tone in his voice was absolutely hilarious!!! 😂😂😂😂

Jeez Louise I've never been this early to a video in my life. Cheers to me! Edit: I too bought a plant today! A Baby Bunny Bellies Tradescantia. I'm not particularly interested in Tradescantia most of the time. However, this one has such a lovely texture! My main concern is hopefully I don't have pest troubles, as I can see these fuzzy leaves being exciting for bugs. Fingers crossed I don't have any issues. I'm so excited about this little cutie!!

To touch on your "imposter syndrome " I know it's hard to see yourself the way we do so allow me to enlighten you on what we see and this is the truth. You're absolutely Stunning, wonderful accent (Iam jealous) you have such an infectious personality, like an aura that lures us in, I don't watch a ton of plant TH-camrs but I love watching you, you're calming, incredibly smart and knowledgeable, funny, you seem so true to yourself and seem to know exactly what you want and goals you wish to achieve (learning Spanish ) you seem like such a great and honest person, not fake, you're just yourself, you come off as confident but not cocky and if you're not we would never know! I don't see ONE bad thing when I look at you physically (I know this isn't everything) or personality wise... People Iam sure envy you and you're very humble... Imposter syndrome shouldn't affect your life, and shut that shit down when it does! I struggle with sever anxiety and I put your videos on to bring myself back down and to be able to escape for a while so thank you for your dedication and commitment to your channel and us, your subscribers! It's very rare that when TH-camrs start getting higher subs that they forget about us and don't interact with us anymore, you always include us and are here to answer questions and be helpful in any way you can!

I know you aren't a fan, but my favorite genus is catesetum orchids. I love them because they are deciduous, so they have real seasons. They've taught me to pay attention to my plants. And when I'm successful, they reward me with lovely, fragrant flowers! Male and female!

I dove head first into Hoyas in Nov of last year. (2023) I find them so interesting and I think what is the catalyst behind Hoyas is their unique blooms, both visually and aromatically. I find anthurium to be very challenging. I keep mine in a soil mix including tree fern fiber and I need to find a moisture balance. If I put them in pon, I will forget to check on them ☠️ so with that said…that’s why I have kept them in soil. Enjoyed the video! I’ve never thought about growing a plant on a hanger like that!! ¡Lo encuentro muy interesante!

My favorite genus to grow is Syngonium, especially from node. I might be addicted to growing Syngonium from node because they just grow so damn fast! There’s nothing more satisfying than cutting an entire plant into nodes and watching them grow from the start.

12:13 maybe you can try to take more advantage of the ceiling space? Since there seems to be so much of it and you’ve even got the wall space that’s higher.
14:33 I’ve also found that it’s much easier for reactive dogs to get along with pets that belong to friends, ya know? Maybe they sense it that you know them and that you’re comfortable with them versus a stranger walking in the park.

  • @TajmToCook

I have bought 5 alocasias in the last month. 4 plants and 5 corms (they are still on their way). I love the way alocasias look as well as I can't wait for the corms to grow so I can experiment with growing the plants out of them. Three of the plants came with few corms already formed. I always move the new plants to nutrition solution when they arrive meaning I had to get rid of the soil. As I was hosing them down, two corms snapped 😇 so now they are living their lives in prop box in perlite. All the other corms (about 10 in total) are still attached to their mother plants as they are still too small. I love experimenting. I cut and prop everything that comes my way. I even went to the shop, few days ago, specifically looking for some plant I could chop up and prop in various ways. The victim is a syngonium pixie. As soon as I got it home, I cut off all the roots (how rude of me, lol, but I always wanted to do that to see how/if it will work), washed off all soil and cut/divided the plant into pieces. Literally. I ended up with 32 pieces that have one-, two- and three-leaf stems. Yesterday, I have put them all into 10 different things such as water only, perlite, moss, pon and 6 various types of rooting and nutritional solutions mixed with water. When I am experimenting, it is big 🤣 They are all living in prop box. We'll see in a month or so, if they will survive 😊

I think it would be a good idea to add some activated charcoal to all your no drainage containers. This will prevent rot and mold issues. You can just add a bit on top of your semihydro or clay pebbles layer. I’ve learned that from my local plant shop in Middelburg where they make gorgeous terrariums and plant installations

Deffinatly come to New zealand, look up the hibiscus coast in NZ, where I am is 20min from the auckland cbd, 5min to many beaches and amazing cafes and restaurants, 2min to the countryside. The earliest the sun sets in winter is between 5-5.30 pm.
Ps the grass isn't greener politically, I won't go into how and why, but every country has it issues 😊 but our lifestyle is pretty good in general.

    Pest!
I swear by SB Plant Invigorator. The black bottle. It's apparently pet safe and safe for consumption of edible plants. Been using it for 3 years and it got rid of all spisermites and thrips. Not had any in years except for 1 time when I couldn't afford to buy it for 2 months. Thrips came back. Within a month of being able to afford it again, all pests disappeared. It however doesn't work systemically on mealys which is sad but it works on spray contact for mealys.
Congrats on being nicotine free. I understand the difficulty. As a heavy smoker of 15 years (20-30 a day) it is very difficult to let go. When I reached the year mark, I released that more or less all cravings had gone.
If you find you still have cravings, there's a new product on the market called fuum that I've been hearing great things about.
The plant I'd chuck away is the Philo ring of fire. Tried growing it in every way possibly and it seemingly hates life in my care hahahaha 😅 such a shame because it was my biggest wishlist plant.

Maybe in the future it would be great if you could join the BBC Gardeners World team for their house plants items. I always find these a bit forced and artificial. I definitely think that people would rather watch you doing a report on the houseplant studios of Chelsea Flower Show with genuine interest than the current presenters who are obviously much more into gardening than houseplants.
And for them it could be interesting as well because they would reach a new (probably much younger) target group

My all time favorites are Calathea and Maranta. I just started transferring them into semi hydro and they love it 😍
Do you plan on having a house someday? My collection is a lot smaller than yours (about 100) and I am planning on buying a home in the next couple of years. I’m kinda afraid that a garden and my indoor plants will be too much… of course semi hydro is gonna help but I try not to buy any more plants (doesn’t work lol) for that reason and wanted to ask what’s your approach on that term ☺️
