@@chrisbarraza7700 ok sure but the video is titled "why the $100 price drop?" And he's talking about the set being bad in terms of value. That has nothing to do with what you think is fun or not. Both the video and I are talking about the value of the set therefor in those terms it is a bad set.
I never liked that this set was considered a Commander Legends set. It should’ve been an Adventures in the Forgotten Realm 2. Pretty sure it WOTC did that, and made Commander Masters a Commander Legends 2 set then it would’ve been better for their fans and their pockets.
A lot of people were upset like that but they had strange misconceptions about the set itself that wotc never Ven said. Definitely felt different from the first and maybe should have had a different name but commander legends in name just meant a draft able commander set and nothing else
@wademiller2376 not nothing else... Bro, they slapped a comander legends price tag on it. It wasn't just a naming thing. Yes, the set tanked in value as soon as the next set came out. But that was only after fans who were excited over payed for it.
Actually today I got a collector booster of Baldurs Gate and I have to say that it was the best collector of all my life 😅. I got 8 Mythics and a bunch of good value rares.
I absolutely loved this set. It was one of the huge reasons why I got into MTG commander and it was a lot of fun to buy boxes and pull cards with my wife.
If you don't pull one of the best cards in the set, which many are locked behind insane collation issues and you will rarely, if ever see them, let alone the big hit (copper), you will almost never pull much value out of these boxes. I unfortunately bought in not knowing the collation issues when they were higher value, hoping to farm dragons, but I only pulled three out of a case. And none were a copper dragon.
Bought a set booster box on release day at the local LGS to show some support. Retail was like $135 + Cali tax so like $150 ish Hit the white dragon and a Jet Medallion in the list slot. EV of the box was like $45-50 kinda felt shitty
I love dungeons and the initiative so people hating this set was great for my wallet! I think currently it's very boom or bust just because the hit rate on the ancient dragons and lands are so low. I believe the lands have a higher hit rate in the draft boosters for some reason.
Booster boxes are always a bad bet and you should only be buying them if you want the commons and uncommons to goof around with, or if you're keeping it sealed for resale later. Case in point: I bought a booster box for Phyrexia: All Will Be One for $200. I pulled $120 worth of cards out of it, and only because one of those pulls was a repack of Urza's Saga from The List. Without that unlikely hit I was looking at $75 in value from a $200 product.
I bought just 2 boosters from this set. In the first I've found the ancient copper dragon (the red one) and in the other one the ancient brass dragon (the black one) 😂 that felt so good 😂😂😂 red one is still a more than 50$ card 🔥
Seems possible that, after 30 years and Baldur's Gate is a beloved IP, these cards might become reasonably valuable but that depends on whether or not there's a tie-in between this set and BG4 and whether or not BG4 is a huge disappointment. That being said, holding cards for 30 years is less likely to pay off than if you had spent your time doing almost anything more productive.
this set was beyond not bad. fucking people really are just stupid as fuck sometimes. what ever. nice pulls on this one. so glad i got to enjoy this when they released :). great set.
I never liked this set… 1) best rares shifted to Collectors 2) Dragons were “lottery cards” at set level 3) HATED “showcase” cards Thanks for video! Will look at links this weekend!
When I saw your nails I knew you smoke weed love shrooms and eat snacks..Maybe we could eat some shrooms and pass some puffs around while we play magic like real OG's 😅
I will say I heard draft boosters were better than set boosters for the baldurs gate set. In set boosters you have a better chance at "legendary creatures" where most people are looking for the ancient dragons which aren't legendary. Would be cool for a comparison of both boxes 😊
@@ZeusTheGodSoA just my personal experiences... im just contrasting when you whiff on a box vs trying 3-5 prerelease kits and any one of them can seemingly out value the box. the print runs and collation seem better to me.
Tbh $80 feels pretty worth it for me. The set has alot of playable stuff each at different rarities. Ancient dragons were fun, and getting exrta nature's lore and deadly disputes is always a win too. I wish they didn't brand it as a commander legends set.
I love this set! I’m gonna go buy a box now *edit (I should mention I play less popular commanders, and like finding obscure cards that go in obscure decks)
I had better luck with a draft box than you did with a set. I pulled copper and silver dragon and drafted a dragon deck around Lozhan that actually kind of fucks.
I spent £100 on this set. Not only is that a bit too high for me but I was considering getting The Ancient Copper Dragon. Who sits around £50 Spent £100 and a tip Got Ancient Copper, Silver and Gold Dragon. The last pack was the Copper Dragon. I seriously could not believe it
Nope, I will not endorse WotC abandoning the Guaranteed Rare standard for all practical purposes by buying Sealed. WotC should count themselves lucky my few hundred bucks a month trickles back via the secondary market. The more involved I get with hearing about the goings-on at WotC/Hasbro, the better that ProxyKing looks. I don’t expect every box to be a bonanza of bangers, but what we just watched shouldn’t even be possible. A worst-case-scenario should have been 80$ worth of 7.50$+ cards.
I love this set, don’t get me wrong; I bought a case of sets, two cases of draft, and all the precons. With this in mind, however, let me air the biggest turn offs I’ve noticed among all the drafts and cracks I’ve done. First off, it’s red dragon or bust for most boxes. Second, and more importantly to me, there are so many uncommons, décent ones, that the un commons feel far more rare than the rares and mythics (barring dragons). You can get great uncommons like mother of runes or mind crank but boy howdy you are lucky to get one good uncommon per box! That feels really backwards and so most players get turned off by the set as a result (in my experience!)
this set is so cool after you've played baldurs gate 3, pretty sure if the game wasnt delayed and they came out around the same time it would have been more successful
It wasn't a bad set, it was just overpriced. I got lucky with this set, as a D&D guy I went big on AFR and would've done the same on BG but I was having work done on my home at the time and wanted to sit on disposable cash in case the work served up some surprises. Friends of mine who did buy it weren't too impressed and I dodged a bullet, I did buy a set of the commander decks and over time I've bought a lot of draft boxes boxes cheap and enjoyed sealed with them.
Lae'zel is worth above 2$ :P I think this is one of the card that will be worth 20$+ if they will not reprint it in 2-3Y. Irenicus's Vile Duplication is worth over 2$ too... and its one of the best clone effect in Commander.
This set has a lot of money rares and it had a good lineup of mythics. It's become HEAVILY undervalued. At $85 right now, the EV is excellent. In retail price for non-foil or special finish, there's like 20 double digit cards both rare and mythic with Ancient Copper at $75 retail. There are even nice uncommons in Greaves, Propaganda, Skullclamp, etc. The Collector Boosters were criminally underpriced but they jumped to like $180-ish and are just underpriced now.
Thanks for the video, I'm just getting back to TCGs last 1.5 years, you every hear of or play Sorcery: Contested Realm? or Grand Archive? or Mythrel? ... playing those three, and thinking about getting into Flesh & Blood and back into vintage magic play. Cheers
Bought three boxes of this set last year. In the first handful of packs you opened, I never saw half of those cards. In the entire unboxing I did. Now I'm considering buying boxes of it again now realizing that apparently I missed out on half of the set...
One of my favorite sets so far. Lots of good cards in the set all over the place. Only thing I felt was bad is that when you opened a bunch of packs you see the pattern of a literal sea of the same rare legends popping up. I think I have 7-9 miryim, baba lysaga and so on of the others. Makes the packs feel a bit samey and the really sought after rares and mythics, and uncommons for that matter, are hard to get. Only pulled two dragons so far, white and black ones.
I am half tempted to get one just to hunt and peck for the ancient dragons. Obviously would be cheaper to just buy the one I want but still, yeah…tells you how bad this set was.
Everyone forgets this set had the cycle of Battlebond dual lands as rares. They are affordable now but if any extended period of time like 2 years or so goes by from 2024 and they don't get reprinted, they will at least double in price.
I loved this set. Hidden bombs in it. Descent Into Avernus might be the best commander card ever. Speeds up everyone's gameplay. Speeds up the game in general.

Baldurs Gate was NOT a bad set, it was great fun. It may be lacking in price but the game play was awesome.
If you look up the singles, they are not lacking in price at all.
the set is terrible theres very little value. almost as bad as mkm.

yeah I was gonna mention the utterly wack collation of set boosters. Getting ~$50 from an $80 box is whatevs. Pulling $50 from a $180 box is bullsht.
not to mention it had way less boosters than a regular set box had, it wasnt good value overall
