Nick - “The body of work is so much better…”
      MJ - 6chip, 6FMVP, 5MVP, x10scoring, x3 steals, DPOY, x10 All- NBA first, x9 defensive 1st in less than 15 seasons
      LBJ - 4chips, 4FMVP, 4MVP, x1 scoring, x1 assist, x5 defensive 1st x13 all-NBA 1st in OVER 20 seasons???
C’mon, the body of work from MJ far surpasses that of LBJ.

    • @IknowMoreThanYou

Nick's entire bron premise begins with knowing any objective criteria has Jordan as no. 1 so he made a career creating nonsense arguments.
No one says Kareem was the greatest scorer of all time; he wasn't. It's always been Jordan vs Wilt. We go by averages and between Jordan and wilt Jordan had the highest scoring averages on the highest efficiency ( per ).
Where nick turned into skip Bayless was when he started deciding he would use half truths and outright lies to create an argument where there was none.
The extent it's gotten at this point is pretty pathetic; he picks arguments he can't win and thinks whining and arrogance will help.

Describing retiring as quitting is bad enough, but when talking about the first retirement, ya know the one that came very shortly after his father being murdered, is quite possibly the most despicable thing anyone says in these debates. Agree. Not to disrespect any of our greats, but there is nothing that compares to what it felt like when Jordan was dominating not only the NBA, but the sporting world, the headlines, and media outlets around the world. There's nothing I have seen like that before or since. That actually felt more like someone bending the universe, imo. Add the unreal list of accomplishments and it would be hard to believe without seeing it, live or on video. What could 'bend the universe' more than 6 Championships in 8 years, TWO 3peats, 6-0 in the finals, never taken to a game 7, six finals MVPs, 5 regular season MVPs, 14-time all-star in 15 seasons, 3 all-star game MVPs (could easily have been more if he had chosen to be selfish), 9 all-defensive teams while ALSO leading the league in scoring, led the league in steals 3 times, had 200 steals and 100 blocks TWICE as a 6'6 GUARD, had 10 scoring titles-- one of those at 35 yrs old, led his team to an insane nearly decade long stretch when they never lost more than 3 games in a row-- and as Chris B pointed out, all without ever having 2 all-star teammates and with only 9 top 5 picks. Unbelievable. Not to mention, all this while skyrocketing Nike's sales and popularity and NBA TV ratings, and having people try to emulate your style to the point of shaving their heads bald even. That's crazy. Don't know how the universe could bend any further than that. Nick is on point a lot of times but I personally have to disagree on this one. I'm genuinely happy that Lebron broke this record, not trying to throw shade at him in any way. Definitely one of the greatest to ever do it. But honestly have to factor in longevity when talking total stats like all-time points, assists, rebounds, etc. These are great records and stats do count in some ways. But I don't understand how Kareem has held this record all this time and has 2 more Championships than Lebron, but the vast majority of people think Jordan has been the goat all this time. How does now someone breaking the record with 2 less rings than Kareem now leapfrog over Jordan? Personally I'd take accomplishments-- like Jordan's insane list-- over having all-time stat records. Even though on a deeper level Jordan has dominated a lot of stat categories as well. He's the most dominant team-sport athlete I've ever seen. Unlike football, individual players have to play both offense AND defense in the NBA. And MJ dominated on both ends. Just my honest opinion.

Just wanna add: I'm in no way disrespecting our NFL greats. It's an awesome and great league with super talented, all-world athletes as well. Love it wholeheartedly. Obviously, the NFL game is way too physical for players to spend a significant amount of time playing both offense and defense if they want a prolonged career. Just saying it's a factor that NBA players are largely judged on both, (not that they all excel at both), and when someone dominated at both as MJ did you have to take that into account in terms of overall greatness by sport. That in no way takes from the greatness of the amazing NFL athletes. Just wanted to make that clear.

Consider the examples of important records Broussard gave: they were all involving baseball. The reason that basketball and football records don't shine like baseball records do is because while baseball is a team sport, there is an in-game individualism that football and basketball simply don't have. There is no assist on a homerun. Sure a perfect game in baseball involves some help from the outfield, but it requires recievers doing their job for a QB to rack up pass yards. Baseball is the only team sport where an individual's stats can truly shine apart from the rest of the team.

Why would we not highly value being amazing for a longer stretch than anyone else in history? I completely agree with Nick that we move the goalposts to make sure MJ is always the best. It's not TOTAL stats that matter, its PER GAME stats that matter because....checking notes....oh yes, that's the category where MJ is best.

Well A) Lebron isn't better over a longer stretch than anyone else in history. Lebron never won an MVP in his 30s, Kareem won one at age 32 (and won his first in year 2 at age 23). Kareem was also older at age 37 when he won his last finals MVP, Lebron was 35. Karl Malone won two mvps in his mid 30s. Jordan won 2 MVPs in his 30s and 3 Finals MVPs in his mid 30s, including one at 35, same as Lebron. Lebron is merely ONE of the best over a long stretch.
Also it is definitely better to have MORE ACCOLADES (like Jordan does) over less time than it is to have a pretty good longer career. And you know why? Not only did you pack more in and have a higher peak but if you wanted to play longer you could have and packed even MORE in. Jordan essentially did everything he did in 11 seasons, half the time of Lebron and yet still has the edge in accolades, accomplishments and statistic.
It's also not about not valuing highly, it's about valuing more. And Jordan's career has more value than James.
Jordan could have played 20 years and if he did, Lebron would still be chasing his totals....because Jordan's per game were that outrageous.

It’s easier to have a long duration when the game is not as physical. I love Steph Curry and many other guys playing today but if they were allowed to be hand checked and have forearms to the chest while in the paint, their numbers would be drastically different. And they may not play as long at a high level.
