In the 96-97 regular season the Jazz scored 103.1 ppg
In the 98-99 regular season the Jazz scored 93.3 ppg.
This gives us an avg of 98.2 ppg. Karl’s 26.1 ppg during those seasons has him scoring ~ 26.6% of his team’s points. (Strictly per game..not a total number stat)
The Lakers over the last two seasons have scored 112.1 ppg and 117.2 ppg respectively. This gives us an avg of 114.65 ppg. LeBron’s 29.6 ppg during those seasons has him scoring ~ 25.8% of his team’s points. (Strictly per game..not a total number stat)
Brou’s point about the volume of scoring is technically correct, but probably isn’t a significant enough difference to be up in arms about the disrespect of Karl Malone. Their scoring numbers are comparable. He should’ve focused less on the volume and more just on the fact that LeBron can score at volume from the outside. He’s Malone’s size, but they play nothing alike. Hard to actually compare
Finally someone who knows what they are talking about. I thought these people had gone extinct, especially in the age of Twitter and TH-cam comment wars.
and it’s way easier to score now

Malone played 19 seasons. Never missed playoffs. Led Jazz to 18 playoffs when Stock was already washed. Never missed playoffs. Malone longevity was way better than Dirks, KGs, Chucks. Chris has a legit point.

Yes Malone was incredibly durable, but so was LeBron until a few years ago. Also, I repeat this constantly but LeBron took 4 different teams to the Finals. FOUR. And only had 1 good coach. Imo familiarity goes a long way. And Sloane was an all time great coach imo..

Right! Or to minimize his numbers and just say "Longevity Longevity". The 2016 Finals being the most egregious example.

The game is at a far faster pace nowadays Nick meaning more possessions and thus more opportunities to record counting stats and thus those numbers are never quite fair to players that played in eras with a slower pace
Wrong. Another brain washed fan.
It’s not too much different. Pace during Malone’s MVP years were 90 and todays pace is 98. The game was actually faster in the 70s and 80s but that’s unimportant.
So the question is can Karl Malone make up the difference in stats if there were 8 more possessions per game when he played? Odds are, probably not. He couldn’t get enough assists, points and rebounds with 8 more possessions to make up the difference of what LBJ does with about 98 possessions per 48 minutes.
The biggest difference is offensive rating where teams have an offensive rating of 115 league wide whereas during Malone’s years were 105 league wide.
Offensive rating (points per 100 possessions) disregards tempo and number of possessions in a game. So really todays NBA outscored Malone’s NBA by 10 points per 100 possessions. The league’s offense efficiency might be a bigger explanation of why LBJ’s stats look so much better.
The 80s were identical
Nick is the type of media personality Barkley talks about when it comes to making it personal
100%. He’s Skip Bayless in different clothes.
Nick just wants to get in LBJ's pants so bad. He's like the nerd that wants the hot girl and embarrasses himself and never gets her.

Nick wright is signed to Clutchsport, it’s unprofessional for him not disclosing that info
The blind reveal is silly in this instance because Malone was playing in an era where BY THE VERY RULES OF THE GAME it was significantly harder to score. If the roles were reversed, we'd see Malone with better numbers in his twilight years unquestionably. But who am I kidding? We're just filling airtime in July... Still watching and loving every minute, though. XD
" BY THE VERY RULES OF THE GAME" so he was built to be the best he could be for the rules but somehow he would get even better if his build wouldn't be perfectly fit and the rules would be different? 🤣🤣 based on just what ur saying you already dismantled that assertion yourself. not to mention other slew of problems with what ur saying.
@@SadSinStorypeople say anything to discredit any Lebron accomplishments. It was harder to score then because outside of the superstars the league wasn't nowhere near as skilled as the players of today.
@@SadSinStoryfrom what I read you clearly missed the point 😂
The 8% from three in Malone's MVP years was crazy though 😂 I think a lot of old guys back then would have issues to adapting to the shooter league we have now. Shaq for example one of the greatest ever only made one three point his whole career. In today's NBA all the top big men can shoot. Jokic, KD, Embiid. Not being able to shoot as a big man is a flaw that can be exploited like how they exploit Giannis in the playoffs. Giannis lucky he has Middleton to bale him out but Middleton is just not that consistent
By rules of the game it’s harder to score now… being able to double and triple team as much as they want… playing zones… illegal defense calls… just cuz they allowed goons to foul hard doesn’t mean the entire league was like that or that the entire league was elite defensively…
LeBron and Stockton not going to the finals is an extremely crazy take lmao

The Lakers the last 2 seasons, their pace per game was 102 whereas the Jazz in those 2 years Wright is showing had a pace of 89 so a difference of 13 possessions. That means with Malone's stats as is he'd average more point rebounds and assists per game than LeBron.
Wright just throws numbers out sans context.
-🎯🎯🎯🎯
While youre somewhat correct, Karl Malone in no universe would get more assists than lebron. While it's true pace was slower back then, that also meant players needed less cardio conditioning and got hurt much less often. So you can make several different arguments for or against eras which is why it's no use trying to compare stats.
@@DeadSezSoAlso help defense/ zone was considered illegal Defence which resulted in a lot of dudes standing around while one player goes iso on the opposite wing. Imagine what LeBron could’ve done with that “illegal defense” rule, people aren’t ready for that convo tho lol
@@DeadSezSo not necessarily when it comes to cardio. Players then played more games, more minutes and shorter rotations. 8-10 players with the roster at 12 max and 3 on reserve.
Now, players play less minutes, less games, and longer rotations...9-12 players. 15 players with 18 max.
Yes, I understand the pace is more but a similary paced late 70's to mid '80's had guys again playing more minutes per player per game. While I'll concede Malone would average less assists however it wouldn't be by much.
They took around the same amount of shots those
Thank you Josh!!! Was the best sentence in this entire argument.
Why don’t they do a revised comparison based on the average point increase? For instance - if teams score 20% more points per game in this era - add 20% to that stat.
I always say, go back 20 years, and 25 points in the 90s-early 2000s is equal to about 30 points today.

Lebron absolutely did score at a very comprable rate & efficiency
Finally somebody said it
Bron also better passer an defender bc he can guard 1-4 an sometimes the 5 depending on who the 5 is
Bruh, the thing isn’t that lebron is miles ahead, it’s that those 2 seasons are MVP seasons for Malone and the 2 seasons from lebron are age 37 and 38 that’s why the seasons are comparable with the averages still being ahead in lebrons favour because of the assists
Again context. the pace ans scorin, rules and philosophies are drastically different. stats mean nothing without context. go back and watch players from the 70s and 60s shoot from steph curry range. it still counted for 2pts. how many people would have better stats if these rules and pace of play were allowed in their eras?
At the risk of sounding like a Bron hater, none of this is the point. It isn’t about the player. It’s about the game. It’s like saying Jordan averaged 45/9/8 against the Monstars but only 30/5/6 against the NBA.
In the offense that the Jazz ran, with the skill set that the game told Malone he SHOULD and MUST have, in the overall backdrop of the game that Malone played in, The Mailman did X.

I believe that Lebron in possibly his last year or two should really look at or study the game of ... wait for it ... Adrian Dantley. Adrian Dantley was a mid-range and score around the bucket extraordinaire. Adrian Dantley was a small forward at 6'-5" and around 210 pounds and he played and just about lived in and played in the paint during much of his career and that open mid range shot was at times deadly for teams would leave him open occasionally outside the paint.
