    One of my all time favourite art teachers once said in her very first lessons:
    "Alright I want you guys to draw me a stick-man. Doesn't matter how or what, just draw one!"
    Everyone drew one, had lots of fun doing it too, no problems.
    "Okay. For the rest of the year, I don't wanna hear any of you say 'I CAN'T DRAW!!'. Because you've done just that right now."
    Attitude is everything!! Get out there and give it a go

      I've seen golden wolves art on a video made by wolf seriously you guys you when I saw the first one it had the song Broken, it is unbelievable Susie I recommend you check that out right now after this video. There is a guy I know he is the son of what am I child specific AIDS, he draws basically on a daily basis drawing is like his drug, he cannot go 5 minutes without drawing but he is not a furry but good God that guy draws a lot he could probably cover his entire room literally from every square inch with drawings.

      i draw hands by drawing a box with a thumb and then worry about the hand last cause the thumb is the easiest part and later you go back and make individual fingers and refine the shape. I've been drawing for 1/2 a year and because a lot of my friends are great artists I often go to them for help and inspiration, if you need help with hand and you have artistic friends go to them for help. ive run into problems were my friends have a completely different style than I do and that may cause some problems

      if its not a stock photo/ it is a copy righted photo it is stealing i think. like by legal def. otherwise,i consider it annoying and lazy honestly. especially if they try to sell it as a ych (if its copied exactly like u said)

    • @rainebat
      @rainebat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Exactly! How do people expect people to learn if we aren't allowed to look at other people's art or get inspiration from it too refrecne it? Like I'm sure a artist has a "completely original piece don't steal mine all mine" like I'm sure your art has probably been done before.
      Not saying that's a excuse to "steal" it but yeah
      And also when pwoe say they stole their pose or colour palate like that going too far

    For the first two weeks of being an actual member of the furry fandom, I had no fursona or name. Eventually I just got tired of not having a drawing, so I tried to draw one myself. Every day I try to draw Fernando until I feel satisfied by my work. I have about 2 or 3 weeks of experience and I have already improved a LOT. Your sketch tutorial is really helpful, being as I'm thinking of trying 3/4th view. In fact I draw the picture that is my profile pic.

    On my 11th birthday my parents were so kind to give me a drawing tablet. It was quite cheap(about 50 bucks or so), but I got a ton of use out of it. When I joined the fandom, I found myself drawing a furry drawing everyday when we had almost a week off of school (I live in Minnesota). At the end of that week, I looked back at the work i have done, starting with the first one and ending up with what is now my fursona, Moonlight. I definitely improved in this type of drawing over those few days. I am still eleven, but my dog chewed up the cable to my tablet, and it’s detachable, but it’s a lightning cord, and we only have one other cord like that in the house,but I use it for my switch or phone a ton. After that I brung a mini notebook to school and jotted down things to draw. and if I had work done in a certain hour class, I could draw something I haven’t checked off yet. Even if the end result is bad (like mixing someone with a dinosaur), I still look back at it and say “Okay, this is what i need to work on in drawing”. Sorry for my long story, I just wanted to make it known. If you read this entire thing, leave a like so other people can see this comment!

    A tip for backgrounds/landscape art: I know landscape art can be boring, al least it was for me, but I started thinking about landscapes as it's own character or a home for one of your characters. Think about who you're making in a room, let's say you're making a Rivendell elf who's living with a human. Maybe there's a spice rack where they dry their own spices, maybe there's tea steeping in a pot. Maybe the vibe of the room can be inspired by a friend, family members, or an idle's personality. You could draw your dream house. I feel it makes the room come to life because when someone's living in their own house, they're gonna decorate it how they like, in turn, reflecting their personality. Get creative and really have fun with it!

    To anyone who is wanting to start drawing, art is something that takes a lot of time and practice to get a desired result. It will be hard at first but you must keep pushing yourself and challenging yourself to grow as an artist and improve. References are very helpful as well as looking at other artists and taking inspiration from them. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember and there has been many times that I'd look at my art and think "wow that's terrible" but I pushed through and continued to make more art. I wish everyone the best of luck with their art!

    I love the advice here! I think developing a style is the best part about art. It took me 16 years to settle on an art style I could pull off easily and enjoy using. I took inspiration from other styles and ultimately formed my own. I thought it wasn’t even a particular style, but I’ve been told that my art’s stylized. Definitely can agree with the “don’t compare your art and make yourself feel bad” part.

    One thing that has really helped my art progress was watching speedpaints. Not only did they motivate me to keep drawing but, they show you how this amazing artist does their work and it can really help you. One thing that I used to suck at was shading fur but, after I watched some speed paints I went in with a bit more knowledge on it so eventually I picked up on it.

    Ahh Jazza! I love watching him work C: He also puts up a lot of cool tips for drawing. Not necessarily like "here's how to do this specific thing" but more like general tips that can help out any artist from amateur to master. Heck I've been drawing most of my life and he's still taught me things C:

  • @swirlycat5554
    @swirlycat5554 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Something important about art is learning not to doubt your art style. I’m an amateur artist, so I’m probably not qualified to be giving advice, but still. A lot of times, I can make something I think looks amazing a lot faster than big name artists, and I’ll start to doubt myself. It’s small things like this that bring people down while making art. It doesn’t matter if your style is cartoony or realistic, doesn’t matter if your lines are neat or messy, doesn’t matter if you have expensive or cheap supplies, and it doesn’t matter if it takes you three minutes or three years to make a good masterpiece. All that matters is you have your own style, and that’s all you should worry about.

    I now know what video to show my friend, she is self conscious about her art and always compares her self with other artist and it makes her sad, explaining how art is like building blocks is a great way to look at it and it's great advice.

  • @Gray-iz6ff
    @Gray-iz6ff 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the advice!!! I’m in a Game Design class and everyone is drawing dragons, Pokémon, and more. I was intimidated seeing all these and wanted to try but always compared my drawings to theirs and felt demotivated. I recently got a laptop-tablet (a tablet running Windows with a detachable keyboard) and downloaded Sketchbook. Once I opened it, I had no idea what to do. :x
    Now after watching this, now I see that “practice and patience” isn’t just a cliché, but rather a simple explanation of how to develop skills at your own pace, and that many professional online artists weren’t just “born with it” or “miraculously acquired skills overnight,” but have had years of experience, only that they don’t always flat-out show what it took, so you never really know about it.
    Even if it feels “too late,” it’s still better late than never. Also reminds me of a saying my dad told me, “No one knows everything; everyone is always learning, even those who seem to know the most!”
    ----
    TL;DR This video helped me realize everyone has the same skills, just that some acquire it a little earlier. It’s ok to see yourself less experienced than others. It just means you can use their works to help you save some trouble they may have had when they started.

  • @linklore
    @linklore 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    A good thing to keep in mind is to just add "yet" whenever you say you can't do something. To use Pocari's example, instead of just saying "I can't draw backgrounds", instead say "I can't do backgrounds YET." Turns a negative connotation into a more positive one!

    A few years ago, I thought my art was horrible. I hated it. But I saw all these amazing artists online (some of which were my inspiration to become a furry) and I wanted to be like them. I wanted their art. Yesterday, I was going through my old art, and I redid a few of them. I looked at more of my recent art compared to my old art (my profile photo is next to be redone), and I realised something that almost made me scream. I felt so happy. I made it to where I wanted to be. When I thought that was impossible, I did it. Not even five months ago I was rewatching old art videos that inspired me so long ago that I wanted to be like and I was still thinking I was so far, but suddenly, I realise I am there. Now I just need another goal!

    I'm almost 14 and started art things. I feel like these things apply to fursuit making too. I'm hoping to some fursuit making soon. (As soon as I ask for fur for christmas from my parents who don't know ima furry yet!) I don't have any sort of professional tools . I have made a tail, a balaclava with ears (base), a pair of feet and a pair of paws all made from a jumper and some stuff I found laying around. The feet were very hard to make as I have no foam. They're not like traditional feet but instead to look their best you have to stand on your tip toes they're like socks do I had to put some stiff carpet I had laying around to make the toes not stick up. The paws and toes are filled with stuffing from an old pillow and all the parts like elastic and the hood from the jumper were used as well. The tail is using elastic as a belt to make it bouncy. The only thing I actually bought was some polymer clay for the claws on the feed and paws other than that we had the tread ect already because my mum uses it occasionally to patch up a skirt hem or something.
    I made these before halloween and haven't resumed making anything like that after as I ran out of jumper so I think my parents just think I was making a costume.

    I have a message to all artists that are now just starting out or thinking about starting to draw, that mesage is that no matter how many struggles you have, keep trying. Alot of people think that because this other person could draw better they think that some people are able to draw and other people have talent. I hear new artists and people who don't normally draw will say "i cant draw" nobody "cant draw". Sorry people that are great artists, You DON'T have talent. Nobody has talent because anyone can learn to draw. A common misconseption with art is that they got there is a few weeks or just had talent. No, even if you drew all day 24 hours a day for 2 weeks you would not become the next Leanardo Divinchi. An artist will have drawn many art peices and sketches. They could have drawn for years and years and YEARS to get there and you wont get there over night. A reason for artists to quit is that at least even ONCE an artist will have their art in a cringe site. If that happens to you dont ignore it, use that to please and surprise them by keeping to practice to get better. Not to mention half of the people who end up on cringe sites are 10 or younger. Yes people like me who are 11 can draw amazingly well with fancy shading and lighting with detail but we all started somewhere, I look back at my art from 5 years ago and i cringe hard. I got my art style with patience, determination, and practice. As long as you think your art is good it WILL be good. If you still dont think your improving, look back at at least almost day old art that you did yesterday and compare your art today, I gaurentee you will find improvement in its tiniest forms. Nobody is satisfied with their art and even amazing artists still dont like one feature of their art. Like i said, it takes billions of drawings to improve to great places. Dont EVER say you cant draw even if its not the Mona Lisa, you can still draw. Take my advice and keep drawing. Heck even the greats started terribly. The reason why i started drawing was because my BFF (who is amazing and you should check out, she is on my subs list) started drawing. Many people want to get good in a day so they hate the advice "practice" but this method is a way that has been done for millions of years with different things. Dont ever even think in a sliver that you cant draw and try your best, you can draw, nobody can say otherwise!
    Much love to all young artists

    I cried because the more art I see, the higher my desire is to make some. But I just don't have the gall to start on anything. Even though I won't automatically make a masterpiece, the anxiety is just too great... I wish I could overcome this, deviantArt has been with me for 9 years now and I've done nothing art wise since then (well, unless you count icons and stamps)...

    Honestly, in this video is very very well said (But that’s my opinion :p)
    Anyways, I as a young artist had very troubling times when comparing my art to others and that became a bad habit. Though, over time as I learn from others mistakes I had been continuously growing as a better artist! As annoying as how many times I heard this quote, “Practice makes perfect,” its actually true! Because I learned this the hard way that art is not going to happen in one night, art improvement is all a process into meeting a critique or goal.
    As a note to everyone else:
    Don’t ever give up or compare yourself and learn from minor mistakes and stay motivated!
    Thank you Pocari for keeping me and everyone else motivated ! Stay Awesome!

    Another good bitbof advice is that "no one knows your art better than you do" when you draw something you see all the flaws what I say is when you see those flaws fix them if you don't like a part of your drawing tweak it until it's right

    Here's another tip that I found pretty useful. Even if your not great at art tutor people. I am tutoring one of my friends who wants to improve his art and he is actually getting better. This is also improving my art as well. This tactic isn't only helping others but it's helping you and it's fun too.

    I used to try SOOOO HARD to make art, and I became mediocre, but I’ve realized that, despite how much I love art, and want to put my ideas on paper, i absolutely despise drawing, it isn’t fun and by the time I’m done I don’t find the end goal worth it:/ but if you love drawing, even if you’re new, go for it!

    My cousins always look at my art and say "why r u so guuuud?! My art is bad compared to you"
    I always tell them: "no, you are just as good as I am. I'm just fastforwarded the 7 years I've been drawing. 7 years ago, I was you. If you practice, in 7 years you could be on my level."

    I don't make guidelines, I find them limiting, I instead let the art EVOLVE on its own, in a sense I let the drawing almost draw itself!

    I understand from a slightly different perspective. When I first started teaching myself to crochet my work was a little rough but with each piece I did I got better and better. I have some pieces that came out great that were completely done free-hand (no written instruction) and some not so great but good enough to function as dog toys. I have had family and friends of family comment on how good some of work looks and I should probably sell my work. The last bit was sometime later in my life and I agree I have come a long way when I look at some of my earliest work.

    I love seeing the people who advise "The tools don't make the artist." Which is an absolute truth! I mean heck, when people think MSPaint they think very badly of the program but have you ever seen that person who can draw super realistic pictures using MSPaint? By grace! Talk about god-tier.
    Talent is not a function of tools.

    Honestly, I think tracing art strictly for practicing purposes, where you don't use the traced art for a profile picture or for profit, just as a method of practice, is a good way to learn proportions and might even help you discover what art style you are most comfortable with.
    Anyway, thanks for another great video, Pocari! I really found if both helpful and enjoyable! =3
