I can't listen to this song in the car anymore. Its sure to get me a speeding ticket! As soon as I hear the first notes, my foot pushes the gas pedal to the floor & the windows go down. @@vudunof But they did sweeten the chorus, didn’t they? There were more voices than there were guys on the stage. The rest was live, and very well played IMO.

Love the EARRING !!! That bass line by Rinus G. rumbling along on down the track. I can never figure out which band member is the most handsome 😂 they’re all HOT 🥵 WHEW!!!
Loved Golden Earring. I used to buy Kerrang Mag in the 80s. One journalist reviewd a gig, and I contacted him. He arranged a VIP entrance to the gig which was at a High School in Utrecht Holland in 1989. I was collected at Utrecht Rail Station in a limo driven by the bassists brother who was the Road Manager. Had dinner with the band backstage and shared some joints after the gig. A one in a lifetime experience
@KittyGrizGriz Oh, I've seen a few great bands in my life, but there are some I have missed like Foghat in their prime etc. I am sure there are bands you have seen too that would make me jealous
Bass players have great rhythm 🎵, ah ha, yes, the Danelectro bass is a fabulous instrument. I love it’s ‘classy’ name. I read that Rinus G. made his 1st bass, either by himself or with the help of his father. Either way he’s crafty 🎸 and a fabulous player. Hello from the 🇺🇸 Oklahoma & Wyoming! 😺
Pretty sure the vocals are live (they're *not* the studio recording), and maybe the guitar and bass - but the drums kept going as he jumped over his kit.
I hear you loud and clear! I’ve had the maddest lady crush 😻 on Rinus Gerritsen ~ Forever… Bass players have great rhythm. Rinus’ sister, Milly, is married to guitarist George Kooymans.
@gnpahdc it's totally prerecorded!! The guitar player is paying but you hear nothing . There's definitely 2 guitars but only one player. Backing vocals and no one is singing them! Plus the singer is 2feet or more at times from the microphone but his voice is loud n strong. Sad it isn't live. I loved this song since I was a kid.
I can't help but wonder... how long was Tim Hawkins the lead singer of Golden Earring!? LOL No seriously, Barry Hay and Tim look like they are family, to my old eyes... 😎👍👍
So, did these guys tour with an additional guitar player , horn section and backup singers to be able to actually play it live or did they ( like Zeppelin) play a stripped down live version since they would not be able to include all the overdubs from the studio recording.
This performance is very confusing. On one hand it sounds live since the singer is obviously struggling in some sections, but the drummer isn't really playing since he has a silencer on his snare drum. Believe me, that particular silencer he has makes it make no sound at all. Also, there's backing vocals there that nobody is doing. It's like they're miming to a previously recorded live performance.
Not just the drumming but there are two guitar parts at times. I thought it was live as well at first but I think it’s just a good mime job of a live track.
Good to hear this was a live vocal. Barry's voice is apparently weakened perhaps due to overseas travel / illness..this is evident. I've seen and spent time with the band in Holland, Barry's voice is much better than this live take even to this day. George however vocally is spot on. Too bad Caesar's snare has a dampening pad and wished this was the long version vs. the 45 edited version of Radar Love but, better than nothing. Radar Love and Twilight Zone are the only two songs us Americans know. Their numerous LP's over the decades (since '65) are nothing short of remarkable especially all 3 Naked Truth CDs / DVD's. Hope George is managing well with his illness.
How lucky for you to know them personally, and to have visited The Hague! I’d love to travel to the Netherlands 🇳🇱 some day. Have read that people, especially the men are naturally taller, there? It’s very very sad that they had to quite touring in 2021 due to guitarist George Kooymans illness of ALS. I love their song “She Flies On Strange Wings.”
@@KittyGrizGriz Yes She Flies on Strange Wings is fantastic. I first heard this song in 1975 and it is still a favorite. Be sure and listen to their double LP/CD called On The Double. It's the very first recording with Barry from 1969. If you search my channel you will see interviews with Barry, George and Caesar from 2001. Thank you for the note.
Thank you for the music tip, I don’t own any of their albums, but need to change that. I peaked at your channel and love the bird videos and sounds. I’ve got several bird baths on my back patio in Oklahoma, and enjoy watching them. My favorites are the mourning doves, cardinals and finches. Flickers are beautiful but they enjoy pecking on my upstairs wood siding, ugh ha! In Wyoming, I enjoy watching the ospreys.
An interesting combination of live playing and lip-sync. No horns on stage, but you can hear them! No 'oooh' backing vocals, you cannot see them but you can hear them! Ha!
Augmented playback. It amazing how one guitar can simultaneously play three independent melodies and two singers in duet have four or more part harmonies. And best of all, the singers voice (live) is totally blown out. Where’s the horns & synth at the end? So sad.
Sorry but I never got this tune. Never liked it never loved it. To me it's boring. What am I missing? When I was a kid Def Leppard would rave about it and play it live, but to me it was the worst song in their set. Surely one of music's most over-rated songs? Please convince me otherwise.
