Reina is the new blend of tekken now almost feels like an inflection point. She still has legacy moves of the past but she looks forward into the future. Great design and gameplay
Reina is nuts...she is my primary obsession of the entire game I've ranked up on her to combatant vs actual players, Assailant vs CPU and defeated her staff ghosts...I've made 4 costumes for her...my Afterthought is King because you know...wrestling I like wrestling.
He actually left out a really important property of the hellsweep if you hold down on hit you will go into Heavens Wrath with +6. That makes her hellsweep really good imo.
mm, yeah but tbh you just dont press once you see that, I know what you mean man but even that is still weak RELATIVE to what people think of when they hear "hell sweep". Its a good low but its not the vortex 50 50 of death the standard mishimas have
As someone new to Tekken and fighting games in general, and wanted to learn to play Reina, I couldn't understand a god damn thing this whole 8 minutes but it's still helpful 👍
I would suggest you to start with other easier characters like asuka, victor or paul. The Mishimas are a bunch of characters with a playing style which involves some gimmicks that are kinda hard to learn, and reina is no exception. This is not for downplaying you, but is for having a better understanding of the game mechanics. Some characters are straightforward, others are evasive, and the list continues.
If you are new, for your neutral you can play her with literally only these moves 11 and df1 as fast pokes. Hit confirm 11 into 112. EWGF for keepout. ff2 and fn3 for approach. f4 as your mid to pressure and discourage ducking. f4 on crouching opponents gives you a free df12. db4 or ss4 for a low poke. cd42 for your high risk high reward low. b2 for tracking opponents side ways movement. If you get into Sentai from a move on hit like 112 To keep it super simple Sentai 2 and Sentai 3+4 cover each other weaknesses. Sentai 2 is mid, uninterruptible, safe, can't be stepped/walked. Sentai 3+4 is low to hit people who stand guard too much. Then from Heaven's Wrath if you get into the stance with plus frames like a move on hit such as cd42d at the wall or ws44d as a punish. To keep it super simple Heaven's Wrath 2 and Heaven's Wrath 1+3 or 2+4 cover each others weaknesses. Heaven's Wrath 2 is mid uninterruptible, safe, but can be stepped right. Heaven's Wrath 1+3 or 2+4 is high unbreakable throw, tracks steps/walks both sides (throws are homing in T8 lol) and hits people that stand guard too much.
Reina is a Mishima Specialist's dream. A character with unlimited potential and tech. I can't wait to lab and explore this character more myself. Thank you TMM.
Learn grammar, kid. As for the community, IDK, I'm 30 and find being sandwiched between the Zoomer brats and oldheads is confusing and soul crushing lol. It's either OGs or brand new players, where the Zillennials at? Oh well Reina looks dope, probably the best new character since Tekken 5
Damn, Reina has a lot more going on with her kit than I initially thought. It is awesome that they replaced Heihachi with a mishima that feels like a "true" mishima. I was worried Reina would be a mechanically watered down Mishima more similar to Kazumi.
It’s a healthy middle point between classic Mishima execution and moves but also fresh ideas with multi stances, even a hopkick and other untypical non-Mishima stuff. Such an amazing character
He will probably go more in-depth over time, but this is just a quick look for players that want to use her. She's definitely an interesting addition to the roster.
Reina’s stance into stance shenanigans weirdly reminds me of Siegfried from Soul Calibur. Kinda looking forward to exploring her stances more than her Mishima stuff if I’m being honest here.
As a huge SC fan who mains Sieg and Maxi, I was really not sure where to go in T8, and Reina has already been an absolute delight over the few hours I've played her. That style feels super intuitive and I love flowing between stances.
OMG, she has THIRD-STRIKE PARRIES?! That's insane, I was on the fence between her and Victor, but I think her complexity might seal the deal for me, she just looks way too cool
it's not exactly the same because it only parries punches, you still get blown up if the opponent kicks or grabs you which with things like hwoarang and Shaheen in the game is a harder to find them using punches outside combos
That’s hilarious bc I think I’m between her and Victor as well xD I think she’ll be my main and I’ll try to play some Victor as well tho, I’m a sucker for the Big Boss+Raiden+Sam+SpyXFamily Loid Frenchy
There's one bad downside to her "third strike parry" and it's that it makes any throw done against you unbreakable. So gotta be really careful against King.
reina took everything mishima had to offer and really decided "nah i'd do my own thing" those back moves are similar to heihachi while having some flavor from lar's silent entry, kazuya and jin power moves with heihachi's mishima style whilve having a parry and also very flexible movement strings she's the mishima that they tell you not to worry about but is overtuned while not being overpowered
She does look complicated but honestly with electric and good punishment (df2) u could just play the traditional simplistic Mishima gameplan using movement and whiff punish with electric
I think that was the idea. Straightforward base tools, but if someone _really_ commits, the potential is unlimited. I really appreciate designs like this.
@@baltharaaz9847 I totally agree she is super interesting. What I also like about her is that she doesn't seem to be overtuned as I did assume at first that they'd want to push her so hard and make her very busted and it fortunately doesn't seem to be the case and I appreciate that about her overall design. I hope they'd take a similar approach to future dlc characters balance wise though lol.
idk how I haven't been subscribed already, I've watched your content for years now. since atleast 2019, it's crazy to think it's been 6 years almost since leroy got put out.
playing as her has been giving me the same kind of feeling that I got when I first played Tekken 3 and tag tournament that this is the best character ever made. Namco has absolutely blown me away with how amazing this game is
I tried to main Reina. Theres so much to her kit and knowing when to use a certain move at any time kinda overwhelming. Definitely takes time. I like the guaranteed unblockables with heavens wrath stance and the offense from set. Still such a fun character. The style is amazing as well. T8 is dope
1:17 actually!!!!! if you hold down, you go into heaven's wrath and are +6!!!!!!!! neat mix potential (and an unbreakable grab!) with this that can also go back into sentai or wind god step!!!
I wish Reina has Heihachi's forward+3 knee CH launcher. It was such a great tool for heihachi not only having the threat of wave dash mix with EWGF and Hell sweep. He has a safe CH mid launcher. Since this is day 1 i hope more tech will come out with her as the game progresses. Also I hope bamco in the future fixes her Parry problem which PhiDX discovered where if you tap forward and you mess up you get CH for just tapping forward or get CH thrown.
A great video and because of your 8 minute guides I learned how to wave dash on hitbox as well as arcade stick it’s like you said forward then quarter circle forward it’s that easy but hard to master
yeah that was a good video. never tried any mishima stuff before, but after seeing that I gave reina try today and was surprised. wavedash is quite easy. im still slow ofc but with practice it will get better undoubtedly.
Something I figured out about her is that she can go into her FC d/f+4 launcher from crouch dash. You just tap back before you do it (just like trying to go into WS 2 with Kazuya but the execution is far easier). I think with the extra time added for the additional input this is a true 50/50 with her Hellsweep, so it's something to consider. It's actually safer if they correctly block it (-16 for the Hellsweep and only -14 for the mid - still punishable, obviously, but the chances of being launched are significantly lower with the mid option). This 50/50 feels stronger than anything Heihachi ever got out of a crouch dash so it's pretty cool. Also she has a 13f EWGF, so if you can PEWGF you can punish at -13 (good luck, though).
As someone who just picked up Tekken and chose to main Reina, it's really reassuring hearing the words "could be the hardest character to play in the game if you wanna master her"
@@victorbastos8924 Look up the guides from Xiangsgaming for each character very helpful and way better for beginners his videos are very well streamlined and give a good idea of what the characters strength and weakness are. This means that if you are in heat, you can do hellsweep into heavens gate, you autoparry any attempt at taking you out, and you have access to all of her busted heavens wrath stuff
Its INSANE TMM released a lot of guides at the same time but the Reina guide has more views than ALL the other characters. I was gonna use her as a secondary but now im gonna watch this to counter her and pick up John Wick

So i HAVE been playing her. Apparently her complexity intimdates other players or something cuzz in 6 hours of gameplay i only faced 1 other Reina. (Which is good cuzz mirror fights make me nervous) the whole "sentai into heaven's wrath" string doesn't feel safe on block tough.. it happens all the time that i go into the heavens wrath and then they just punch or kick me out anyway. (which i kinda try to condition them into at this point cuzz when my heat is on it indeed does give the sickest parry ever)
Hi there and hi tekken community. Completely new to the game and I don't understand the counter hit that was made at 4:42? Like I can do the roll then low kick but not that grab/combo?
Judging by how good Reina's moveset turned out to be, I'm happy and scared at the same time, I fear they are really not going to add Heihachi, and even Lidia either. Because she is basically a mix of them.
Anyone else have a problem with reina's wavedash at ranges 4-5? Trying to do a fast wave dash at those ranges leads it to getting stuck in some sort of way. I've tried it on every other mishima and they work perfectly fine, it's an issue I only have on Reina.
