Interesting to see how Roborock have learned from the previous models to simplify and improve the Revo dock.
This water change kit you can buy for the MaxV base is a complete life changer. My house has never been so clean, oh, and it also sucks out the reaming water of the dock filter. Now my floor is impeccable. You can send the robot to mop your house in deep+ mod and 3x per room, ask for it to clean the mop after each room, and forget about it. It changed my life's routine, literally.

I purchased the Q Revo on Amazon Prime Day and it’s such a game changer. Coming from using the Roomba i7 it is night and day. I always wanted a robot vacuum that can also mop and Roborock’s technology and features blow the Roomba out of the water. Not just the device itself, but the app is a lot more intuitive than Roomba’s.
I had my Roomba 980 and the m6 for years, have been waiting for iRobot to step up their feature, tried the j7+ combo and returned in 2 days, stupidly small tank; so disappointed they used to be the best but just not changing anything for years. I'm going to switch to either the Revo or S8 now
Perfect timing, Jamie. I have the Roborock S7 Max V. Just yesterday I got a message from Roborock to clean the filter On The Dock! What? I never heard of a filter on the dock. Not listed on the cleaning info. Not shown on the diagram. How to clean? nothing! I found the filter and it was a mess for sure! Managed to clean it and under it. Now from your video I learn about cleaning the lower brush and area to the left of the dock. The entire area is so dark, it requires a strong flashlight to figure all this out. So you sure came to the resque at the right time. Thanks again for being my Roborock Expert for all time!
I have a strong hunch you are not alone which is why I focused so much on this topic in the comparison. You are right it is very dark and I usually get a flashlight to see what I am doing and even then it is hard. You may notice in the video where I totally missed areas when cleaning in the original Ultra dock.

Got my Q Revo on prime day last week. Absoluely love it since I have an apartment with all hard wood floors, some rugs, and a tile bathroom. The user experience on the app is great as well, coming from person who builds tech for a living. 100% would recommend it to anyone.

what did you like about it? has the robot been navigating easily after mapping the rooms?
@@jpthsd Yes, it is really great with navigating and mapping rooms. Perfectly mapped out my ~750 sq ft apartment. Like I said before, its all hard wood with some rugs/tile and it does great with everything.
I bought the cleaner they sell as well and put about a cap full of that in for each tank of water and its perfect. No residue left over and super easy to empty the dirty water/refill clean water.
The lidar on top does a great job mapping everything and never slams into anything in my apartment, and I do have some odd shaped objects laying around. It got caught up on a cord I left out once but never happened again, that's the only bad experience I've had with it.
Was easily able to section off my apartment and name each room I have, down to my closets as well. The app gives you the ability to do different power levels for the vacuum and mop as well as just doing mopping/vaccuming which is really nice since I don't need to mop every day.
I'm sold and have already recommend it to my family and friends, and now the people reading this.

I'm an international person and it would be great if we knew if these units and other are just the 110 volt or if they are a multi volt unit, this way when we can't get them in our country we know we could look for the multi volt model. Unsure if that would be an easy thing to add to your reviews but it seems no one else is doing this 😉.
I think you are working on a T20 video at the moment, one thing that has been brought up in other comments, how does the no-water tank work for multi floors and also the pads apparently are down during docking, hence comments they drip down the base onto the floor during docking, one off or common issue?

I don't actually know about the hardware in different countries as I mainly cover the US and Roborock does not share that info with me, but your comment is not lost on me as I know I have many viewers around the world and really need to start taking that into account more.
I am working on the T20 and will have that video out in August. Take a look at my recent T10 review if you have not already. It also lacks an on board water tank. IYes the mops go down when backing up to the dock. Makes no sense. I appreciate you watching and commenting!

If you use Bona floor cleaner you should be fine. I have used it for years and it is what iRobot uses in their machines.

My new method of assessing robot vacuums is how long I can go without having to interact with them. That is, pulling a cable out from them or filling up the water tank / emptying the dirty tank. I think all brands build some pretty capable vacuums but very excited what Roborock do in the next year or two

Hey Jamie ! Keep up the amazing work, I love the vids! I have a question about the "routine" option within the app , I have the S7 MaxV PLUS(not the ultra dock) . However when I make a routine for my robot and I add 2 tasks to complete, it will finish the first task and then just say it's finished cleaning and then return to the dock without ever completing the 2nd task I had given it , again this is all within the "routines" option. Any info on that ?

Love your videos, they're always so comprehensive and informative! I got the Q Revo after watching your video on it 😁 i can't figure out how to make it automatically run a vacuum only round, then run a vacuum and mop... Or some combination like that... Is it possible to do?
There is no direct way to do that in the app unfortunately. You can play around with schedules to achieve this if you want to use schedules. I appreciate the support!

We have the Q revo and uses in standart settings low watter use and every 15 min mop wash at 1230 sqft / 114m2 al of the water !!! So for us we need to fill and empty every time the bins . Like you told keep this in mind with te Q revo !! Thanks for the review from Belgium europe

Almost no one covers this properly, thank you! This is the most annoying thing about the S7 MaxV I've been using. Q Revo solution looks better. Also the obstacle avoidance is still not good enough to fully rely on, so you always end up clearing up the floor anyway. So the lack of obstacle avoidance on the Q Revo isn't really a big deal. Only needs a automatic detergent dispenser. The Dreame L10S didn't wash the mops properly so they got dirty. Also it had some issues with the mops falling of when getting stuck (that is maybe the case with Q Revo as well?)
I think obstacle avoidance is a bit overhyped, but if you have pets that mess in the house you can't always watch every move of your dog and the robot so I get why some people want it and need it and others could care less. Have you seen the L20 Ultra review video I did a few weeks ago?
@@jamie.andrews Certainly a better assurance if you have a messy animal. I watched some of it, and rewatched a bit more of it now. I guess the lack of removable and sealed cleaning dock along with it lifting itself up on the edges when trying to mop took away some of my interest. But I probably should give it more of a consideration, which I might do! I'm not sure if this is the case, but based on feedback comments seems like Dreame customers have more software issues
@@Tottorul Dreame does have more software issues, but not really enough to count them out imo. The riding up on moldings only applies if you have those in your home. If you don't it should be mostly fine. I will do a head to head with them soon.

Would you try considering the auto fill water module that you mentioned? Is it a Roborock original part? And try to find out if it is compatible both with the Max and the MaxV?

The rubber on the swimmer in my s7 dirt water tank dissolved and I can’t get it anywhere. So I thought maybe the s8 tank would fit as an replacement.
If you are talking about the dock tank no it does not fit. You might find one on Aliexpress.
If you could do a review/tutorial for the plumbing kit that would be awesome.

very informative video my main question is iif its possible to use the new s7 max ultra dock with the older s7 max v ultra robot. i bought the s7 max v robot only and now looking to buy an ultra dock and would much rather prefer the newer max ultra dock with the built in drying and upgraded cleaning and filter design.
based on my research i cant find a conclusive answer other than a few people saying they are exactly the same dock and should work. since you have both the robots and dock would appreciate if you can test and give an answer.

I did cover this in this video at some point, but the answer is no you can not use the docks to interchange robots. Also Roborock does not sell only the dock by itself.
@@jamie.andrews i appreciate the quick reply. the max ultra and max v ultra do come for sale on ebay also from the research i did i found a few people saying the max ultra dock worked with their max v ultra . did you test them ? i know roborock says that docks arent interchangable but since the s7max v and s7 max being extremnely similar i think the docks are interchangable. if you still have the robots will you be able to test them ?
@@Ajay-kl8el The robots are paired to their docks and there is no way to connect them. The Max dock will charge the S7 Maxv, but that is all. Functions like auto empty and washing the mopping pad will not work. I have tested them all as that was one reason I made this video! However just to be extra certain I just tried it again and it does not work putting the S7 Maxv on the Max dock. If there is a way to do it I am not aware and if you find out a way I am happy to test as before this video I was asked this question 2-3 times a week.
Thanks a lot for the video, very helpful. I wanted to ask you for advice, I have a house on two levels, the sleeping area on the second floor. I was thinking of getting the q revo for the living area which gets more dirty and maybe the "normal" s8 for the sleeping area, so as not to spend too much since it is now around €600. Do you think it might be a good idea?
that;'s a lot of money to spend. Why wouldnt you just move up the revo when you need it? you could also get the Q5 instead of the S8 if you REALLY need to have a vacuum upstairs
@@xeon2k8 Because from what I've read the q reevo needs to refill water and empty itself every 15 minutes, I don't think it would be able to wash the whole upper floor, isn't moving the base uncomfortable? Viable alternatives to spend less?
@@CardoneGiorgio ah you want also a mop upstairs?? you can move the base too, maybe doing it every single day it's a pita but if it's weekly then should be fine. Else you could get the S7 for mopping, it's cheaper than the S8.
@@xeon2k8 I have three cats and a little daughter, it would be better to wash every day, for this I would need a robot upstairs for every day. However, getting less dirty than the living area, I wanted to get something less expensive than the q reevo, and the normal s8 (not pro or Max) costs around €590. Is the “normal” s7 equally valid?
@@CardoneGiorgio yes it's equally valid, the only advantage of the S8 is the dual rollers work great if you have lots of carpets, though i just checked and the S7 is hardly available.. then you could get the Q7 max plus, which has less advanced mopping, it has no vibrating mop, so as long as it's a very light maintenance mopping then it should be fine, and on top of that it comes with auto empty bin, it's 480 eur, or the robot alone is 370 eur.
Weird ..the Q Revo is based on the "P series" platform (P10) which has historically been lower end for Roborock. Price heavily reflected it in China markets.
P series was rebranded into S4MAX/S5MAX/S6 PURE (P5) in global markets early on, but I think they went a different route this time.. making "P" a dedicated platform for floor scrubbing.
The S5/S6 used to be based on the flagship "T" series, but thats now lower end for some reason. The US S8's seem to be based on G10/G20 now. S7 was also "lower end" but also newer relative to Chinese T7 a few years back. S6 MAX V was a T7 PRO.
The S7 that came out globally was ground up and not based on previous chinese platforms, but you can tell where they cut corners (IE: Cliff sensors being removed, when every flagship bot prior had 6 instead of 4)
T8 in China is now a cheaper robot with 4200 PA, while Global S8 seems better spec'd. so confusing :D.
T8 Seems to be a better and worse than S7 in multiple areas... Just $150 usd cheaper in china ATM.
I was trying a ton of robots back then and settled on S6.. which is 1:1 equal to Chinese T6 EXCEPT side brush was bristle instead of the worse rubber IMO. The P5 models seemed worse built to me, even tho they were marketed as S4 MAX/S5 MAX/S6 PURE in states. You could really tell it was a lower end platform VERSUS S6/T6.
S6 was also the only model to come with the premium/larger quick charger back then (standard on T models in China).. Was a no brainer for nerds like me :D
My biggest problem with Roborock is that pricing is a bit WILD for models outside of china, but you would have to pay shipping cost to import a bigger Robot like G20 (s8 ULTRA is a variant of it).. and be forced into Xiaomi APP/region Lock. :(
Im glad "P" now serves an alternative purpose instead of just being low end platform. Though one can argue the global Q line is "entry" still.
I wouldn't mind importing a chinese roborock if I can get one cheap, regardless of short comings.

I bought the s7 max ultra. My concern is the water tank in machine is not detachable. Will i be have a problem later on for water residue??? I am using the roborock solution they recommend to put in water and i am using the tap water…
I have not had any issues with mine. Do you have water scale buildup in the docks water tank? If so it could happen in the robot, but if not you should be fine.

The dock design is the same so it should fit, but I have not way to know as I don't have the plumbing kit.
How do you clean out the dust bin on the Q revo? I assume it has to be emptied regularly?
Do you mean the bag in the dock? It just slides out and you slide a new bag in.
I currently own a S6 maxV. I also have a Bernese Mountain dog that sheds alot so I have to empty the distbin daily and sometimes dirt and hair clumps at the dustbin entrance.
I'm curious if these docks can properly empty the dustbin without clumps to the entrance of the dirt bags (which will effectivelly block the self emptying feature. Also the S docks spin the rollers when emptying which i hope may free coiled hair around them in the dustbin, can this be an issue with the revo dock, as in more coiled hair?
Good question and I still have my S6 Maxv too. The new style all rubber roller brush that Roborock moved to with the release of the S7 really only gets hair wrapped around the axle and not the roller itself like the old bristle and rubber brush you currently have. I don't see the auto empty system on the docks really helping with hair that much, but I don't have dogs either. I do however have 2 girls in the house each with long hair.
I would lean towards the Ultra dock for people with that much hair and I advise you to only do a few rooms at a time so it does not over fill the robots internal dustbin.
@@jamie.andrews I thought about that too. I'm curious is there a setting the app for the S7/8 when the mop autowashes,.let's say every 10 min, to also empty the dustbin? Or should I make more schedules with only specific rooms?
@@radul476 You can set in the app how often it can go back and wash the mop but it will only auto empty at the end of a complete job. You will need to play around and see how many rooms it can handle at once and the setup schedules.
@@jamie.andrews As I suspected... Why do you think though the revo won't handle the hair as well? Only because of the evacuation method? I like the revo moping method, self drying and cleaning tray from the dock
@@radul476 Over on the Reddit channel I have heard a few people complaining about it. Could be user error or it could be a limitation. The Ultra dock as you noted uses the brush roller to help pull hair out of the bin. The Q Revo does not and it has a smaller outlet hole in the dustbin. I'm not saying it will be a real problem as I have never had an issue muself. It is a new product and time will tell.
10:53 yeapp was the main reason why i get the q revo, also less expansive and less parts to break.

Jamie, I know you probably try not to recommend one robot over the other, but I'm debating between S7 Max Ultra, S8 Pro Ultra and Q Revo for a good while now.
I would like least maintenance on the robot, which includes avoiding dock cleaning (minimizing it). I consider Q Revo best at it, as it's the quickest to clean in long term. However, Q Revo and S7 Max Ultra have poor object avoidance, which makes me lean toward S8 Pro Ultra. I would like to schedule daily cleaning and I wouldn't like the need to pick up all the toys around the house beforehand.
Is the big price difference justifying the purchase of S8 if I dont need dual or liftable rollers? No carpets, no pets, small toys. I don't want MaxV for privacy reasons.
You are right I tend to not blindly recommend robots to people that ask without first telling me a bit about their needs. You have done that so I can help you out some.
The Q Revo sounds like it is better suited for you except for the poor object avoidance. The dock is a lot easier to clean for sure. I am in the camp that object avoidance is a bit overrated as it is not perfect on any machine just yet. I also firmly believe a true RGB camera is needed to get closer to perfection. I highly recommend everyone pickup prior to sending the robot out to clean even if you have the very best object avoidance on your robot. The S8 series does have better object avoidance, but keep in mind none of them will avoid objects all the time and all of them will ignore objects smaller than 5cm x 3cm which could certainly be small toys.

Good question and I am not sure if that is a user replaceable part.
i kind of wish q revo kept the camera for navigation. The structure light is not as good. And the remote viewing feature was pretty nice for checking up on pet.
I do agree however it would likely be much more expensive though which is a big selling feature of the Q Revo.
Only issue with the Q Revo is the self emptying dirt channel has clogged twice. It doesn't like dog hair and is a pain to clear. But the tray is easy to clean like the simple approach. Otherwise working well. The Q Revo also is by far the best looking of these IMO.
I have heard others state this too about the Q Revo and I have mentioned this to people who ask to buy the Q Revo that have log haired dogs.

I have heard some people of pets complain the Q Revo is not as good with the auto empty system. I don't have any expierance though.

No they are not compatible.
Is 80ml water capacity enough for 1 run on the q revo? It needs to cover like 30m2
Should be. You can also send it back to the dock more frequently to get washed and refilled.
Sounds like you might be in frequent communication with Roborock. Can you please give them feedback of clogged auto empty? It’s such an amazing vacuum except for this one flaw
Already have. The Q Revo only has a small port for extraction and might not be as effective as the Ultra docks which pull the hair back though a larger hole and with the help of the roller brush. . Personally I have not expieranced an issue with any of them. I have changed my recommendation to people with a bunch of hair or large homes suggesting they go for the Ultra dock.
There is not a lot of information on the S7 Max out there. How does it compare to the S7 MaxV and the S8 Pro?

I am pretty close to ordering the S7 MaxV due mostly to your videos. My only gripe with it would be the missing dryer. In your experience (without the add-on dryer) did you find problems with stale water swimming around in the dock?
If you do find it troublesome, did the add-on dryer help at all?
Seems to me the best Roborock bot would be a S7 MaxV in the new dock :P Cannot have it all i guess.
@@lassepetersen684 Thanks so much for your support and kind words. The add on dryer only dries the pad and not the dock unfortunately. I never had an issue with the dock drain remaining wet. Just clean it every so often. It is a small area.

Hi. I have 4 cats and 1 dog . 2 kids and 2 adults. I already saw that q revo its not good for animal hair. I was gonna buy that so i thank you for this video. So... If qrevo its not good which one you think its better? I need one that is good with animal hair, a lottt of animal hair and that mops the mud that my dog bring in his paws. Tahks

Otherwise look at the S8 Pro Ultra which is more expensive, but has dual rollers and better object avoidance. I also reviewed that on my channel as well.

I have tested them individually and those results are on the video reviews and on my testing I have never expieranced a clog with any of these docks, but I have heard of people with pets that have long hair complain about the Q Revo. Do you have long hair pets by chance?
I’m surprised you haven’t seen this. I don’t have any pets, but I am in a household of girls which might be worse 😆
I have learned to empty the dustbin manually if I know it will be clogged from vacuuming specific areas

What! Does the size of the house matter? I thought it was the fullness of the bin
@@SpencerBrownJM Because the larger the house to more it collects in the dustbin which can get overfilled. I have seen people work around this issue by only cleaning 2 or 3 rooms at a time and then it goes back to the dick to empty and they then run another few rooms.
I think Q Revo is one of the best looking modern robot vacuums.

@@az6877 Yes there is a huge difference between object avoidance between the S7 Max and S7 MaxV. The S7 MaxV has a significantly better system, but it also has a camera which some people do not like for privacy reasons. If object avoidance is important then avoid the S7 Max. If it is not important save the cash. The Q Revo should be on you list as well if you don't value object avoidance.

I just received an S7 MaxV Plus. I bought it primarily for vacuuming hard floors and object detection and avoidance. I didn’t bother to attach the mop. Yet.
If I valued the ability to mop over object detection and avoidance, I would have bought the Q-Revo or the S8 Pro Ultra. I don’t like having to compromise. Hopefully by the time I need another robovac the market will have a solution with excellent object detection and avoidance plus a dust bin sensor so the robot can return to base when full, self-empty, then continue the job, and finally a mop feature that is easy to maintain.

If you mean S7 Maxv Ultra it would be that over the Q Revo as it is more capable with object avoidance.

Can a vacuum use multiple docks?
No. The only vacuum that can is the S7 Maxv can use with the Auto Empty Dock or the Empty Wash Fill Dock aka the Ultra dock.

Well the Q Revo Pro is not yet out so I have not had a chance to test it and I am not certain what pricing will be at launch just yet. I can tell you if having better obstacle avoidance and dual rollers is important then the S8 Pro has both of those features. Otherwise it may come down to pricing at launch.

I just found out the roborock s8 pro ultra is called roborock g20 in china they sell it for 700 dollar with dedicated space to add the detergents 😢
Just remember that the Chinese models are region locked to China. There might or might not be ways to get around it, it's up to you take the risk.

Does Q Revo's dock require frequent manual cleaning or should it be done inbetween every moping cycle?
I am debating between Q Revo and S8. Ive seen on a few videos that S7 or S8's station gets pretty gross after some time whereas it looks like Q Revo will look as new for a good while.
I would say it depends on how dirty the floors are. The Q Revo has less to clean and is easier to clean. The Q Revo has a smaller debris filter so you will likely need to clean it much more often.

I don't normally give our recommendations without know what the users budget and needs are. I live in the US and have no good way to know your local pricing. Sorry. Not sure what you mean about 2 braces? If you mean the dual rollers they work good on carpet. Check out my review video of each robot which is in the description.
The other hole on the right for the Q Revo dock blows air, forcing the debris to the suction hole on the left. It’s similar to the Dreame system. The annoying similarity of these docks is that they don’t have any dock buttons!!!
That is what I thought too until someone on Reddit schooled me about the right hole in the dock being a fake hole. I put my finger in there and sure enough it is fake and blocked. The right hole in the Dreame L10s Ultra dock is functional as you mentioned, but I think the Q Revo does a better job emptying the dust bin. That head to head will come soon! .
I contacted Roborock about this questionable hole and they said it is there to help park the robot on the dock. Personally I suspect they blocked it off as an afterthought due to a patent. You should be able to dig that up though and if you do find out please let me know.

@@jamie.andrews While watching the video I immediately thought about a patent related problem. Funny that Roborock went ahead with the design of the dock before checking whether all the parts were patent-protected or not.
I would have thought that the Dreame was the best at emptying the dirt container though, given the extra push from the exaust air. I'll be waiting for the comparison between these two (although I already prefer the Q Revo...).

@@giovanniportelli8764 yea I mean I understand they need something there to keep the robot centered in the dock so it does make sense, but why would they use a port that looks like it is functional?
The L10s always leaves a little heavy debris in the dustbin. For me it is cat litter. It is not a huge deal as it will only allow so much to build up, but this is not great because if I flip the robot to clean it the junk in the dustbin can fall out and scatter. The Q Revo just like every Roborock completely empties the dustbin. Now with that said think dog hair may just be better with the L10s due to the dual air ports.

Q Revo is true self-cleaning
It is much easier to clean, however if you don't wash that tray out the small filter can get clogged. The filter on the Ultra dock can handle a good bit more before getting clogged which is good since I doubt many people clean it lol.
