And why is that a bad thing. The economic giants (USA, China, SA) of this world will suffocate european football within the next decade if european clubs cannot maximize their income, to hold on to top players that ultimately makes european competitions elite. Many of the peon clubs will have to shut down permanently.
The problem for Uefa is they represent 55 nations. realistically the big footballing European nations only want clubs from around 10 countries in this European super league, the others would be largely cut adrift
the champions league is a superleague anyways and its dominated by the same clubs every year, always the same teams , real madrid juve barca inter liverpool , ect winning or going far, the smaller nations with one or 2 clubs in competition and little money have no chance
The real problem with competition is there’s no salary cap or real big rules on acquiring talent! That’s the reason to me the biggest problem with a lot of the other leagues that have only a few clubs actually have a chance at winning while the rest never win for eternity. They should focus more on how all clubs can get great talent equally to have a better overall competitive league.

This comment is so dumb. The premier league's success comes from how competitive it is, the tension is what fans enjoy. 5 different teams have won the EPL since the turn of the century with only 2 teams winning it more than twice in a row. If you start bu considering that Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are 2 of the best players in the world ATM, are Englishmen and don't play in the EPL and work up, you will realize that the EPL doesn't have a monopoly on the best players in the world. As for your so called eye-test, I suggest you see someone, if you think that the quality of football in the Germany or France or Italy, I not even going to mention seemingly semi-pro leagues like the Eredivisie and Super Liga (Portuguese) and think that they are better quality football than what we watch in the EPL. How is a superleague beneficial to the fans? Real Madrid and Barcelona who are so hell bent, USED to be richer than 90% of the premier league, and are now pushing this superleague so that they can make money and go back to being in a dominant position because they squandered their money
Every club is putting out a PR statement saying they won’t participate. However, now everyone moves behind the scenes, knowing there will be no repercussions. The fear with the super league is it’s just the winds of change, while it might be partially good or horrendously bad for the sport, I bet it includes the Saudi teams somehow eventually. Furthering the realignment
From next season teams will have the same problem be it the CL or the super league. It's gonna be way too many games. With the new cl you can have potentially 17 games and 19 with the superleague. In CL's current format you can potentially have 13 games, and the fixture is already too packed.

I think the aim for this league is to no longer play in the Premier league playing matches which don't make any profit and focus only on games which make profit, kinda like American Football. The thing is most Football Associations are made up of teams thoughout the country and not just the top team, so as the Football Associations gain more and more members, then the voice of the best teams often get drowned out. A possible advantage of having a different league is that you're able to set different rules such as offside only counts if the player is over a metre in front, or using new technologies (e.g. hawkeye), or using robot referees, 10 lines men, larger squad sizes or goalkeepers able to use pole vaults. The disadvantage of a different league is that it has a chance of fragmenting the fans and making football in general less popular and thus have less investment from sponsorship as those adverts aren't being seen by previously larger audiences.
Mr Pérez statement seems at odds with UEFA interpretation. He sees it as a pivotal moment equivalent to the establishment of the European cup 70 years ago.
Simon's points are spot on. Think about, would you rather function under the rules and governance of someone else or your own? and apparently they think with the latter they can get more out of the economical landscape and with a bit more hyperbole the architect of new football evolution.

There is already UCL, Europa League & Europa Conference and these are suggesting 3 levels also so it's basically the same except with more games between teams (groups of 8 instead of 4) and the idea of promotion/relegation...doesn't the winner of the Europa League already get promoted to the UCL the next season though? Not surprising UEFA is a monopoly They behave and act as if they are honest and care for the game. Yet they themselves only focus on money and act innocent when they face competition.
Its like Kapil Dev creating a T20 cricket league but the BCCI did not like it, The BCCI later went on to create the IPL because it was their creation and they can control it.
We already know what UEFA deliver for ordinary fans: less than 40% of the ticket allocation for the CL final for the fans of *both* teams *combined*. The rest mysteriously end up with sponsors, UEFA functionaries and their guests, "the UEFA family" whatever the f-ck that means, just not fans. Oh, and they repeatedly schedule them at venues/in countries where the fans are robbed, then abused by police who couldn't be bothered to protect them from the robbers just before that. UEFA can't even manage to be competent enough to prosecute FFP cheats within the legal timeframe open to them. So no, f-ck UEFA. Would the ESL be better? Probably not, but this decision opens the door to an alternative system and *that* can only be good, because it's UEFA's and FIFA's monopoly that has allowed them to degrade into corruption, nepotism, and ineffectiveness that serves everyone *but* the fans and the game right before our eyes.
Don't we all just care about our own clubs? I would categorically not pay more money to watch PSG vs Barcelona than I'd watch my club in a third round cup tie versus vs a league two side. Im not sure the idea would work in reality.
There’s demand for a ESL at the top. Seeing the big clubs all play each other. Fine. But in the middle and bottom no chance. As a Villa fan I would much rather we play 38 games domestically against the Uniteds, Liverpools but also the Luton’s and the Bournemouths etc. Than 20 games vs Genk, Dinamo Minsk, AZ Alkmaar etc (no disrespect to them). Villa sell out every game domestically now but the European home games you can actually get a ticket pretty easily.

That's not true. I live in the US and the reason people watch the premier League is because the games are competitive unlike 90% of other leagues. They don't watch it just for clubs like Utd and Liverpool - we get all the games and the other teams are highlighted on broadcast TV more than they are in the UK.
The games are broadcasted in the US because 1. They are in English 2. The TV revenue deals. Absolutely nothing to do with the competitiveness of the actual league. Utterly delusional. Every league in the world of football has about only 5 teams out of 16/20 winning half of their games because that's how the system works. And the PL is not competitive, it's the league with the top 4 that accumulates the most points, has big gaps all over the table and the title race 3 out 4 times is a two horse race between a longer term dominant team and a temporary big spending challenger. The idea that the PL is competitive is propaganda. It's the league run by foreign glory hunters wasting money on interchangeable players that rely on money to import proper quality managers and players from far smarter how to play the game cultures.

Some are already complaining that the 2 relegated ones from the 12 in the Star and Gold division are not enough. That this means almost no threat to the top clubs. I then ask how many teams are relegated in La Liga, Premier League, Bundesliga and from how many and what is the risk of relegation of top clubs. La liga, PL ... 20 teams and 3 relegation places. I think the Superliga has it just right. First they complained that there is no relegation in 2021 and now they complain that 2 relegation places are not enough. They always come up with something.
I would like if they expand the relegation zone though. A bigger relagation zone equals more risk and more pressure to perform, while also allowing smaller firms to get their chance at playing against the best. I would say the bottom four clubs should be removes. The 5th and 6th worst teams should play a game to determine if they have the right to stay.

I have no problem with a European Super League. We already have a handful of clubs that are so far in front of the others financially its a farce having th in the same division. So long as there is promotion and relegation I dont see the problem. Football needs a salary cap or we just gonna watch Newcastle and City win every league from now to the end of history.
There will be promotion and relegation since the new format puts teams in 3 different groups. It will be like a completely new domestic league but with international clubs. It also won’t affect the domestic league, because even if a team in Serie A were to be relegated to Serie B, they could still be at the top of the group of the SL and earn more money than they would by playing in Serie B.

It’s more about removing the UEFA taxes 😊
And why is that a bad thing.
The economic giants (USA, China, SA) of this world will suffocate european football within the next decade if european clubs cannot maximize their income, to hold on to top players that ultimately makes european competitions elite.
Many of the peon clubs will have to shut down permanently.

Well he does have a good point.
Brilliant analysis by Simon
The real problem with competition is there’s no salary cap or real big rules on acquiring talent! That’s the reason to me the biggest problem with a lot of the other leagues that have only a few clubs actually have a chance at winning while the rest never win for eternity. They should focus more on how all clubs can get great talent equally to have a better overall competitive league.
The super league has a defined salary cap and ffp rules, UEFA rules are ambiguous, everybody does what he pleases.

The CEO of the SuperLeague has already stated this is a European thing, and closed the door to any non-european club

A bigger relagation zone equals more risk and more pressure to perform, while also allowing smaller firms to get their chance at playing against the best. I would say the bottom four clubs should be removes. The 5th and 6th worst teams should play a game to determine if they have the right to stay.
Didn't sky do the same to the football league? Let the 'big' teams clear off to set up their League. The rest can get on with sensible football then.
Saw some comments about people complaining that the super league will only be free to get people hooked and then it’ll be behind a paywall. 😂all serious football is behind a paywall anyway
I have no problem with a European Super League. We already have a handful of clubs that are so far in front of the others financially its a farce having th in the same division. So long as there is promotion and relegation I dont see the problem. Football needs a salary cap or we just gonna watch Newcastle and City win every league from now to the end of history.
So you are fine with Real Madrid or Man U being in the Superleague every season, even if they don't finish top 4?

He just said as long as their is promotion n relegations it will be fine which there is now.
@@DEVRIMCI2007you only stay in the SL if you win games… read the new format. There are 3 groups, and if Real Madrid were to be relegated from each of those groups then they’d be out of the super league for that year until they’re able to get back in through their position in the La Liga
Salary cap 😂 Who are you to decide what someone else should earn. What a player and a club negotiate is their business and no one else's.
I absolutely love Simon's perspective on this matter. It's crystal clear that football is all about merit, and it's only natural for big clubs to attract more income and the best players. I believe this is an incredible victory for the world of football, and we can expect some significant changes in the near future. I am eagerly looking forward to what the future holds for this beautiful sport!
Simon, I love you mate, but the meritocracy argument isn’t gone. The ESL is now offering a semi-closed league format. So some of the teams have to get in on merit, but some STILL DON’T! That’s the issue. Until this is a competition where each and every team enters the league and stays in the league on merit only, I have zero interest in this. Semi-closed is semi-American and speaking as an American, I hate the closed league system that only exists here and practically nowhere else in the world!
I dare one of the big English clubs to say their back in😂
heard that only teams that had won the champion league & europa league are invited
Simon “Economics” Jordan
Regarding this new potential Super League............. where does this leave the fans ?
Real Madrid is bigger than all the premier league teams
Simon spitting FACTS
That man speaking is just saying facts
