WOW!!!! This is raw energy. Absolutely amazing, all three of them. The Henry Rollins Show was exactly the right place. Fun fact here: Check the video for Wild Flag's "Romance". Midway into the video, there's a scene where Janet is reading from Rollins' memoir "Get in the Van" to an old man. That ties things together ;-)
Insane songwriting + boundless energy. They blow every most every male-driven rock group out of the water. They're simply one of the best rock bands EVER. Time magazine and about every critic in the country would agree. It's sooo obvious. They JUST rock. I've never gotten such a rush at a show, maybe at Radiohead. But that's it. S-K forever.
Great performance a must see music band. High energy and talent. Carries guitar playing is wicked and one of the best in the music business. Her singing vocals are excellent as well. (Her singing voice sound and intensity is something you have to see and hear live in concert.) I'm looking forward to seeing this talented music band when they are in the Los Angeles/San Diego California area.
I dont wanna be disrespectin no one, but one of s-ks strongpoints is that they do not NEED a bass player. If you listen to a few specific recordings, corin tuckers ingenuity begins to shine through; she tunes her electric way down, and uses both regular amps and bass amps to pick up on the lows of the low-end and the highs and twangs of the high-end-and it genuinely sounds like two guitarists in one. Listen to the opening riff of dance song 97 on a good pair of headphones. Sublime.
Very few things in life are perfect, however Sleater-Kinney were one of them. There isn't anything I would change about them and this performance in particular just sums up for me what an amazing band they were. I know it's unlikely but I really hope they reform one day. Come back SK, we love you!!!
Someone please explain to me why we had to endure strokes/post grunge etc. rather than something actually good? BRILLIANT! so sorry I am late to the party..
You’re not the only one! I discovered S-K only last year, and they’re honestly the best band I’ve ever heard! I’m disappointed they did not get the recognition they deserved. All the male white bands singing about nothing being credited with starting the rock scene…no wonder they felt the need to write a song about it, sexism at its finest. 😤
This album, Turn On the Bright Lights and Fever to Tell are the three indie drumming masterclass albums in my book. Leaves Turn Inside You by Unwound is a very close runner-up bit it feels strangely of the 90’s. Something in the water in Washington, man.
There is much to commend here. I'll just say that I suspect this will become a timeless classic...and before long it will be included within the canon of Christmas carols sung every year, on cue, at the doorsteps of many a craven hominid. I liked this very much indeed.
@acebass2 well, they're two of the best rock guitarists and one of the best drummers of the past twenty years, and they rock out like nobody's business. but everyone's got different preferences so it's no biggie if you don't see it.
there are MANY awesome things going on here: 1: the live version isn't far off from the album cut. 2: the fuck you attitude that isn't faked 3: Carrie Brownstein ('nuff said) 4: all the equipment onstage is great.
@leclairjeanm they're not together but check out Wild Flag - they're touring now: WILD FLAG is a Portland, OR and Washington DC based quartet consisting of Carrie Brownstein, Mary Timony, Rebecca Cole, and Janet Weiss. The members of WILD FLAG have played in numerous and notable bands, including but not limited to: Helium, The Minders, Croissant Cocktail, Feeble Knees, Quasi, Dogz, Sleater-Kinney, @@@, The Consortium, Asia, and Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks.
corin was on an episode of portlandia. doesn't really say anything, but it's a good sign. it kind of means that they're all still close. i could see them reuniting sometime in the near future, going the coachella route. i think once carrie floats wild flag around for a good amount of time, corin could very well be ready to come back in. man, i seriously wait for that day......once of my favorite groups of the 90's. these girls rock so hard.
Now I want to see them live even more, but they've hung up their rocknroll shoes! I love their music, but it makes more sense when you can see them performing it.

Que grandes son estas mulleres!!! Moitos deberían aprender delas.
14 years since this was posted and it's still the most exciting thing on TH-cam.
Totally agree
I can’t explain why, but the line reading of “you did nothing new, 1972” just encapsulates rock and roll for me.

That opening drum riff gave me the best chills.

It's so important to me what globalist news corporations want me to listen to, especially Time magazine, so I'm glad you said that.
So much punk morphed in to parody of itself...but these brilliant ladies never let that happen. Long live S-K!
Janet Weiss!!! Legend
If America didn't have a 'strong woman' problem, Sleater-Kinney would have been as big as Nirvana.
I love this comment!!
janet weiss!! best drummer!
Right??
True. She plays like a drummer and not a 'female drummer' - yep, I'm a sexist pig.. but fuck it, it's true.
465marko Well, she IS a drummer. Her gender has dick-all to do with her amazing skills! :p
Amelia Bee That is true. Not sure you quite got my point... but yeah.
465marko Likewise, but no worries, it doesn't change the fact that she's awesome and so is SK.
janet weiss is a fucking beast on the drums.
she just brutalizes those damn things...so much energy...
Great performance a must see music band. High energy and talent.

I'm italian fan of SK....please come back!!! Someone should go in Olympia and bring them with the force ;)
Janet Weiss, she is so f****** good drummer: watch this part: 4:09. WTF? Why are there so few videos of them live? Someone answer
She is my favorite drummer ever. And there a bunch of live SK videos. I see a bunch listed right over there. ------->
One of the best live TV performances I have ever seen. S/K absolutely shred on this one.
Still playing air drums however many yrs later every time I see/hear this.
Fuckin powerful performance here. I've seen SK live a couple times before but they just killed it on this Rollins episode.
God bless this for reminding me, as a musician, to not over-think/over-produce/over-perfect anything. Good shit.
Mother of the Universe....they were so meant to be!

Right on: I'm not a huge fan but they're the kind of band I would not hesitate to see live. I also make sure people know about them!
Wow what a amazing performance !
Gonna go see them warm-up for Wilco. A mighty strong warm-up they shall be.
One of the best drummers out there! Seriously wicked
Fuckin goosebumps. I am so damned excited to see them this winter!
Agreed. Seeing them in April. Stoked.

It's not even funny how awesome this band was. We want S-K back!!!!
I love Carrie Brownstein and your three bands: Excuse 17, Wild Flag and Sleater Kinney
i think this is better than the studio version. definitely fiercer in the chorus!
I sure do miss this band
:) i love this song
Fuck yeah!
This is intense.
Check 1:41-1:44. There's a bird on Janet's crash cymbal.

Just Fucking Awesome!
This song is a different animal live....

Janet f#cking Weiss
I D.J.yed this sh@t all the time... luv it.
leaving their mark on post-punk seattle with a fucking bang. it figures for a band that rocks this hard, their last big hit is one of their best.
Carrie jumping at 3:51 is definitely the best part.
im a guy, and i love them. i never thought of it as an issue :P
Kick ass girls with kick ass delivery
it's actually a K. It's a Zildjian K series cymbal.
LOVE LOVE LOOOOOVE this fucking band.
I LOVE THEM! Corin needs to collaborate with Wild Flag!
Now I want to see them live even more, but they've hung up their rocknroll shoes!
I love their music, but it makes more sense when you can see them performing it.
