I prefer Sonic 2 because of all the improvements it added on top of the original formula Sonic 1 invented. It doesn't make Sonic 1 obsolete, it just makes it slightly harder to get into.
Sonic 2 was the first game in the series that had levels where it felt like you could really get better at them continuously, by finding new paths, abusing the physics, or just playing better. part of this is because the addition of the spin dash which pretty much turned any even slightly curved surface in the game into a ramp the player could use to get to a higher path, the other part is how non-linear and interconnected the level design is which allows the player to skip entire chunks of the levels if they know what they're doing. spin dash also helped water suck less

@@StaceyStAmant Sonic 2 you can speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed (each act 1-3 minutes minus Metropolis Zone). Sonic 3&K you can still speeeeeeeed, but each act takes, on average, 2-5 minutes.
*QOTD Answer:* Sonic 1. Sonic 2 is faster, has better bosses, has Super Sonic, and has slightly better music overall (2P Mode is another great plus!), but I hate the insidious enemy placement and [oft demonic] enemy AI, and vehemently hate Oil Ocean Zone & Metropolis Zone (except the bosses). I like the methodical level layouts in Sonic 1-it feels like there was more thought put into the exploration aspect of the levels since the pacing of the game was not put on nitro the way S2 was, and you can still learn how to play some of the slower levels (MZ, SYZ, LZ, SBZ) more quickly as you study them more. Is it too slow still, at times? Easily, but I still prefer the overall structure of Sonic 1 stages to those of Sonic 2 stages. Do you know about the secret shortcut in LZ1 that skips most of the act? How about the one in SB3 that likewise skips pretty much the entire act? Sonic 1 had a bunch of cool little ideas like this in its levels, though admittedly it didn't flesh them out very well in terms of consistent integration. I do agree Sonic 2 is far and away the better game, but I infinitely prefer Sonic 1, and I'm sorry you didn't have a good time with it yourself. 😔 PS: I'm just sounding off that I checked in to the [somewhat] exclusive End-of-the-Video Club. i think sonic 2's emerald hill zone did "this is your moveset, this is a good place to use it" better than sonic 1's green hill did. emerald hill zone has better music, looks better, and has better level design. they need to bring it back in the next classic styled zonic game.

Speaking of the music, I love the music in sonic 2, definently more than sonic 1. Sonic Mania (if that doesn’t count, sonic 3 and knuckles) is still my favorite 2D sonic game, but sonic 2 is still great.
Sonic 1: * I find the level design to be more demanding in the player's platforming precision skills, which I find makes the level design more engaging than the sequel, though it can make some levels more frustrating. * I'm personally not a fan of Marble Zone, Spring Yard Zone, or Labyrinth Zone, which is half the game. Sonic 2: * I find the level design is much faster paced than the prequel. Although fun, I feel this does come with a consequence of the level designs feeling blander, less populated, and less engaging than the prequel. * I personally think that the second half of Sonic 2, Oil Ocean and beyond, is where the level design really starts going downhill. Which do I think is better? Neither. Both have great aspects as well as noticeable flaws, and I feel they are about on par with each other. I'd much rather play S3&K than either one personally.
Honestly the only thing I like about Oil Ocean Zone is the name, and that's only because it reminds me of Orange Ocean, which is my favorite part of Kirby's Adventure. Like idk, every time I hear "Orange Ocean" I want to drink Fanta.
Mechanically, Sonic 2 is so much better than the first. In general, the design quality was very nicely refined. Chemical Plant 2 without shortcuts, also parts of the final stretch being frustration incarnate, notwithstanding. As for the movie, I'm optimistic; didn't regret watching the first.
I like Sonic 2 for many reasons. I shall list them below 1: Spindash 2: playable super sonic 3: super sonic 4: Knuckles in Sonic 2 5: co-op 6: Chemical plant
Re: Question of Day -- For me, SONIC 1, 100%. I personally see SONIC 2 as more of a stealth reboot than a sequel. They changed too much of what I loved about the original, mostly for the worse, that I think makes it practically a different series. My primary issue is the flat stage design, and the understanding of SONIC as a video game character. I also see the addition of Tails, the Spin Dash, and the reboot of the Chaos Emeralds as negatives for SONIC as both a game and a character. Call me a purist, and you're probably right.

Sonic Mania (if that doesn’t count, sonic 3 and knuckles) is still my favorite 2D sonic game, but sonic 2 is still great.
Alright bruh, my body is ready for a game you really wanna talk about let's gooooooooooooooooooooo
Sonic 2 because of that SWEET MUSIC.
Sonic 1:
* I find the level design to be more demanding in the player's platforming precision skills, which I find makes the level design more engaging than the sequel, though it can make some levels more frustrating.
* I'm personally not a fan of Marble Zone, Spring Yard Zone, or Labyrinth Zone, which is half the game.
Sonic 2:
* I find the level design is much faster paced than the prequel.
What does Sonic 2 says to Sonic 1:
-You're too slow
between nostalgia and it being a stylistic, musical, and gameplay masterpiece. i would honestly say its the best game ever made
0:00 HILARIOUS🤣
PC Sonic 2: Well, maybe I can beat the game and still have super sonic!
30 minutes later..
Time to redo the whole thing.
Sonic 2 because tails and the ending just feels so emotional
sonic 1; faster then your nintendo game
sonic 2; this guy right
Honestly the only thing I like about Oil Ocean Zone is the name, and that's only because it reminds me of Orange Ocean, which is my favorite part of Kirby's Adventure.
How can you like casino night zone? It's a headache. Literally.
I like Sonic 2 for many reasons. I shall list them below
1: Spindash
2: playable super sonic
3: super sonic
4: Knuckles in Sonic 2
5: co-op
6: Chemical plant
5:13 “raise your hand if you don’t like cheese”
Me:But Cream & Cheese are awesome why do you hate 😢
When you really think about it, Sonic is just a decent platformer series with an amazing marketing campaign with some nostalgia mixed in.
I played both on mobile, honestly I prefer both! They have some flavour and they have nice level design!
Sonic 1 because metropolis zone had scared me forever ( and special stages)
I like sonic 2 better, cooler boss fights, more vibrant colours especially with sonic who doesn't look like he crawled out of his grave. also it's when the robot Sonic duplicate thing started.
Oh it's also where the infamous death sta- er um ah......
