Hands down the BEST review for a product I have ever watched. I am in the market for a DD system. Currently running the Thrustmaster T500RS. And while I know my current wheel is considered an intermediate one, I am convinced it is only for the casual gamer.

I love the hight/position of your wheel. I have it the same hight and most of my friend's that I speak to "thinks" it's too high. I try to explain that to them that it's actually in that position in a real race car (IMSA or GT3) but they don't seem to belive me and continue to drive there high end simulator with expensive hardware as it was a bus 🚌 Anyway it's a solid review of the DD wheel from Accuforce 👍

As the DD wheels are a step up when compared to the belt driven wheels or whatever, you are a step up to the sim racing reviewers. Thank you for that and I hope you really improve the competition!!! Aritan Maia In the future we will be looking to do reviews on the "normal" Sim Racers hardware. But we are not sure just how much interest there is for that. Don't know if folks want to sit through a SRG length video for say a Logitech G27 wheel kit. We will do one anyway just to see what kind of response we get.

You CAN move those paddles in, by looking at the holes in the paddles, just place the screw that contacts the button into one of the two closer holes and the screws that hold the paddle on at the outer holes.

Fantastic review, really liked it. You're attention to detail is second to none. Possible review series idea for you to add to the list of components you review, since you already do wheels, pedals, shifters, button boxes, and other stuff. However one thing you don't do is actual wheel reviews, and I think that would be interesting. Definitely not as involved as these other reviews, but at least from a consumer stand point who is interested in the more serious and DIY side of sim racing, that would be very helpful and interesting to see comparisons of various wheels and their compatibility with various setups. Food for thought.

Sim Racing Garage Yes, I have seen that one. However I was referring more to the various big name rims available, such as MOMO, Sparco, etc., etc.. One thing I've been wondering is how the MOMO Mod 27C or Mod 29 compares to other similar wheels such as the Sparco P 260 or P 310.

Its a trip seeing how far along barry was 5. He still had a great setup but seems to have moved into a bigger shop and quadrupled his sim assets with updated versions of everything as well.

It's not clear, at least to me, if you put on a wheel, like your Momo, with a dsiplay and other buttons will work, I mean the motec display etc..
slick2000tiscali Yes my custom wheels electronics pods work with no problems. But I still have to use the coiled USB cable. Which, for me personally, is the best solution. Lot of flexibility to run my custom wheels with any Sim Wheel motor.

The wheel in the v2 Pro version is much sturdier and more impressive it seems. Design has been updated considerably as well. For a cheaper price at $1300, couldn't be happier with a turn-key solution when a DIY mige doesn't run you much less.
If anyone is wondering comparison to bodnar or opensimwheel, he said comparison coming in another video. Either way this is amazing review and I can't wait for the comparison review and how does opensimwheel stand up to accuforce or bodnar.

Hi Barry, first of all, great review. I can confirm that there definitely is a bit of flex in the wheel shaft itself, i have one of these myself and my rig is very solid as i reinforced it with large pieces of steel half squares and 1/2" threaded bars. I've used a few different types of wheels and they all still flex a slight amount if i try to test it from the wheel itself, and when i look at the quick release mount, i can clearly see that area moving around independent of the base, if i grab the motor housing and try to move that around, it doesn't budge.
That said, most real cars will have a bit of flex in the steering column anyways, so it's not that big of a deal, i don't notice the flex a huge amount when driving and i use the "high" setting in rF2 with the FFB multi adjusted so that some of the very high peaks are clipped to maximize the wheels strength. I only ever notice it in high speed corners in a car with a lot of downforce where you'll have a constant high load on the wheel.
Paul Loatman I agree, all wheels have flex. Some more than others. And there is flex or movement in my QR assembly. Also either the black hub itself, or the actual motor shaft. I notice because I use the Bodnar. It's motor shaft is twice as thick and shorter in length that the Accuforce. Plus I use the Q1R QR system which is the most solid QR I have ever used. But at the end of the day the Accuforce is a great DD FFB system. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a DD system. Especially at it's price point.

Marcos Daniel Vozer Felisberto I was going to do that, but there really isn't much to see other than some PCB's and a power supply. And a fan thrown in to keep things cool. But, I will be opening all the controller boxes during the comparison video. Just to show the different approaches DD wheel developers take.

First time watching Sim Racing Garage. Will for sure follow you, and use some of the "tools" when i can afford to upgrade from g27.
I would like to know if you think the g27 and g29 would have been a good starter wheel if the clucking noise and dead sone where gone and if you would have bought an upgrade for that at about 60$ price tag ?
I have done a fix for this and can manufacture the needed parts. I just don`t know what type of volume i`m looking at, and if enough people think this is a big issue. I would sincerely appreciate it if you had any word on this.
Niice review and in depth as always. Much appreciated. Wondering if there's a way to use such a nice peripheral on console games as well. After such a financial investment it would be just short of heaven to not have to have to use another wheel for consoles. Were you still using the simxperience pedals? Are they your preferred pedals now? I have read where they can be used on consoles and I gotta get some of those. Jayson McConnell The pedals are the Sim Pedals from MPPC, as Villet mentioned. Just having a lot of fun with the GT pedal configuration right now to change them. And yes, these are the only high end pedals I know of currently that have XBOX/Playstaion 3/4 compatability.

I love watching these long reviews. However this time I have a complaint. I would have liked to see more about the power supply. And maybe hear more about it too. Is it loud etc.?
Erwin Lommer It is fairly loud, much louder than my PC, but luckily the fan is temperature controlled. When I'm not using the wheel, the fan turns on every 45/60 minutes for a few minutes.
Sim Sektion Yes the fan is loud, but does not run that often. Plus, with my surround sound and all the other things going on in my rig, I don't notice it.
curious if you experienced any g25/27 esque rattling when going over rumble strips etc..some claim this happens with the AF?
Hi! All of these direct drive reviews I could find on YT are mostly based on iRacing and the benefits you get in iRacing. What about other sims? Do other sims even give that much information to the FFB wheel as iRacing does and does switching to a direct drive wheel make as much sense if you're driving other sims as it does if you're driving iRacing?
So I got my accuforce yesterday and am having trouble finding Iracing when it auto searches in SIM commander. And can't find any video of how to manually add it to SIM commaner. Would you happen to know? I'm disappointed its been a big hassle for me.

Another great review. Sorry I am late to the party Barry but could you explain how you connected the Sam Maxwell Momo wheel to the Accuforce?
Start watching at around 10:11. The hole pattern on the wheel it an industry standard 70mm. I remove the stock wheel from the pod and test fit a couple of others to the existing pod. Then I remove the pod from the hub. Here you can directly attach any wheel, including one's with custom button plates, as long as your screws are long enough and you have a 70mm hole pattern.

It uses a USB cable.

DrR1pper Not done with comparison testing, but I can say the Bodnar motor has more torque available as most probably expect. I'll let everyone know all the details of the differences in the comparison video.

since i already purchased the wheel i am a little bit worried about the flex issue.
for a wheel of this price category i expected it to be nothing but tight and solid
RJ Ferrara You shouldn't have any problem while driving the wheel. I has flex, but I don't think most people would notice it when driving. I do because I'm used to running MOMO racing wheels. They are lighter and stiffer than the generic wheel that is included in the Pro Kit. I'm sure you will love your new wheel. So, just sit back and relax, while the hours tick by until you have the Accuforce in hand.
Sim Racing Garage just received my wheel...finally:) surprisingly it has NO flex at all....stiff as a rock:) just a bit wondering though about you saying you are preferring the "generic" FFB instead of the sim commander "FFB foundation". The difference is HUGE...i am not trying to be super smart here...but are you sure you pre-launched the sim commander 4 iracing plug-in correctly before starting iracing. if not sim commander will deliver "generic"FFB without telling you...just starting sim commander and leave it open is not doing the job....anyways thx for the review:)
27:30 I think you can move the paddles in because the adjusting screw can go through the spare hole in the paddle ?

the shaft is too long by default in my opinion and they didn't look at wheel weight and flex. all the default wheels it comes with also momo's you can choos eare heavy and huge.

Does MaxWell support the Accuforce directly? or is there cable tweaks and tangling?
Well, the Accuforce no longer ships with the "Slip Ring" function. Great idea, just not the most durable solution. So all wheels, including the one you get with the "Pro" addition of the Accuforce, will be connected through a cable. Which in my opinion is the most reliable method to date for connecting a wheels electronics to a computer. Personally, I've never had an issue with a wheels cable becoming tangled.
It's nice to know this exists in case I ever win the lottery. Guess I'll have to stick with my Fanatec crap. Great review as always. Very well done.
How much power does it consume?

I have a question. SimXperience and Leo Bondar are both use servomotors. And to me Leo's Kollmorgen motor looks bigger that SimX's motor. Is there a big difference in feeling FFB on that motors? And is there a big difference in way they are controlled by some servodriver?
Snoop Drift-Era Well, most folks have said that the Accuforce motor is a stepper motor, not a Servo motor. I will be the first to admit, I'm no expert or authority on the subject. There is a difference in the FFB feel between the two wheel systems. I will go into more detail in the DD FFB wheel comparison video currently in production.

Nice Review as usual Barry ... my AF does not flex in the same way yours does and I wonder is it your mount/frame as my AF Pro is on a very solid steel cockpit. I have tried it with the af wheel and a momo 280mm and to get the same feel on the larger wheel you can adjust dampening and inertia lower.
Also the Paddle Shifters are adjustable and can be moved inwards for smaller wheels as the second springed screw has a hole made specially for it to go into. It moves the paddles in by 20mm.
Only gripe I have is many of the better/pro review such as yours only ever test using iRacing which gives a very narrow field of reference for viewers. Not every sim racer (me included) likes iRacing as I hate subscription models (ripoff) or they just prefer mainly race offline and there is some great sims besides iRacing.
How about when reviewing something like the AF you try it with Project Cars & Assetto Corsa and rFactor2 ? I race all those titles, they are brilliant, and the Accuforce Pro behaves diffferently in each according the how the Simcommander4 software is setup.
It would be a shame if your upcoming comparison of the AF / OSW / LB is purely based on iRacing again !

Sim Racing Garage Typed my question right before I watched the last few seconds of the vid lol. Be good to see someone tackle an OSW build on youtube. Thinking about it myself but I'm unsure I really have the skillset required.
Barry, I noticed you still had flex when you even put the Momo on. I noticed that the whole "clockspring" (as it's called in a car) assembly also moved with it. So the black part to which the hub is attached with the rotating PCBs.
Anyway, that it moves leads me to believe that there is enough room around the motor's shaft that the whole 'hub assembly' pivots on that single screw that holds it all onto the said shaft.
Am I correct with this assumption? Cause that would mean that Leo Bodnar's solution would be a far more solid one if you ask me. Cause there is zero flex in that connection, but agreed zero cabling as well.
LogiForce86 Yes you are right. The Black hub that contains the PCB's does use a single bolt to attach the assembly to the motor shaft. I don't think the bolt would cause any flex, as the motor shaft is contained in a steel sleeve that is left over after hollowing out the hub for PCB fitment. And, that sleeve runs the entire length of the hub. I do think that the fact that the hub needed to be hollowed out to accommodate the PCB's causes it to flex more that a solid hub. The front of the PCB hub is much thinner than a solid hub of the same size would be. But, if you want to have a "pass through" capability for your electrical signals, I don't see a way to avoid this with the way it is implemented here. There are always compromises in any wheel setup out there. Once I bolted my Q1R release directly to the PCB hub, and installed my MOMO Mod 30 wheel with the Sam Maxwell electronics pod, the only movement I can see is in the space between the PCB hub and the front of the motor housing. With that movement being less than before. The Q1R QR is the most solid QR I have ever used. No perceptible flex at all.
The perceptible flex really depends on how solid the surface is that you've mounted the wheel too. Which has quite some flex in it in your case, and thus you won't be able to feel it. If you'd mount it to, for example, a solid heavy workbench than you'd notice the flex a lot more.
This is what happened between me and a friend of mine. I have a flexible rSeat Evo but he has a really solid desk. I didn't percieve any flex with the CSWv2 and the new QR hub, but he on the otherside was extremely annoyed over the little flex that was still there.
What I want to get at is that maybe you can't percieve it with your setup, but someone else's more solid rig might cause that person to notice it and possibly be annoyed by it.
As far as a solution. I think you need to make a shaft clamp like SimSteering uses and than build/attach the clockspring to the back of it. Drilling a small hole for a cable through the shaft clamp going to the female Q1R hub part that you'd attach to the shaft clamp.
Or at least something like that. It shouldn't be too hard for SimXperience with a little more thinking, but the single screw solution is never great. It would be better with 3 screws so it's cross clamped and stable. :)
How does it compare to the SimSteering Wheel from Leo Bodnar? (price aside)

Gorilla Jones Most wheels that I have used are cut to an industry standard size for the horn button. So, I don't think you should have any issues. Even a China version wheel, if they are shipping them to the USA, should be the same standard.

Slip ring faulty issues still not resolved and not available for online purchase as promised, so in the end you have to connect the wheel with a USB cable. Not happy at all.
