Love hearing Bill enlighten Jane, she’s a representative of all the in the dark liberals. That don’t want to see the insanity in teachers unions, unions, and the academic institutions. It’s an epidemic.
15:45 Glad Jane calls Bill out on this: she correctly points out the issues he has with the "far left" is a very fringe segment, not mainstream Democrats. Bill keeps harping on "woke" culture on his show thereby helping magas make their false point.
I’m in real estate for 35+ years, and lending. Honestly, Ms Fonda, I’m sure with her vast experience is making statements about “race” that limits people of any color/gender/age from getting a loan. I’ve never seen that, I’ve never experienced that, and my clients “of color” are astute and intelligent. From military, to politicians, I’ve not witnessed “red lining”. Nor have I heard anybody want to “keep” someone of color out of any neighborhood. My clients, of color, have never made those statements. Ms. Fonda is not the person who should be speaking on this issue. She’s privilege, Hollywood royalty. I appreciate her cry out for the underdog, I just don’t think her compass is accurate. I do believe that Bill Maher has a more realistic perspective. Unfortunately, life can be a mess. It’s not cynical to recognize and see it, as it is, based upon measurable results.
Yes! I was disappointed that Bill didn’t push back more on this issue. I’m soo tired of this … “I should feel guilty bc I’m white” … BS! We have LAWS in place that protect minorities. I’m 59, I’ve lived in Los Angeles county my entire life, and I’ve only seen things improve as far as how the black community is treated. People are free to lift themselves UP and out of poverty. Nothing is holding them back, except themselves. Can we please stop acting like it’s 1960!!
Yes I am so glad redlining ended 50 years ago. Florida was mentioned in the video, so I googled Florida FHA violations. One notable example was Jacksonville, they reached a $9 million dollar settlement with the FHA in 2023 which, notably, was not 50 years ago. Have the courage to research this yourself.
Black person here. I have been redlined in the broadest sense (I consider getting discriminatory appraisalsredlining ).When I had my condo appraised by the first appraiser it was $150,000 less than the second appraiser when I had a white person pretend to be me. It definitely happens. We just don't necessarily talk about a publicly.
Jane Fonda nor her brother Peter Fonda received any inheritance from Henry Fonda. Do you honestly believe if she were a bad actress she would have continued to get roles based on her father's name? It would be interesting to know where your opinion comes from because it certainly doesn't come from doing a simple Google search.
@@PamDonahue Inheritance isn't the issue. Are you really naive enough to believe their famous father wasn't a factor in Jane and Peter breaking into Hollywood in such a big way around the same time?
She’s so privileged that she’s living in lalaland and still trying to tell us what we should be doing. If she cared as much as she claims then she would donate all of her own money to help. Instead she wants all of our tax money to pay for it.

Jane Fonda is my favorite NepoBaby. She never once saw an empty dinner plate, she never once knew a time where her parents couldn't afford the electric bill. She is a the epitome of a champagne socialist.
And Bill, a white wealthy man who lives no where near the reality most Americans see daily, knows more about black lives in Florida and minimizes the reasons why many non-whites fear and loathe the police.
What a bull shit comment. Shes not a socialist. Despite being rich, she actually cares about other people. You people only don't like her because She doesn't like trump.
Housing is not a race problem! It is a Poverty issue, as white Americans that are Poor, they also have difficulty getting Mortgages! Hanoi Jane needs to get her Politics in line!
I agree with Jane on most things, but you’re correct. It’s a poverty issue. I was homeless myself after losing my job at hell’s Fargo 15 years ago. There’s a show on TH-cam called invisible people that interviews people who are homeless. Many were professionals who lost everything.
Jane is COMPLETELY OUT OF TOUCH... At one point you can tell that Bill just decides to be respectful because he knows that she is so out of touch. It's not even worth arguing...
41:14 how about this, Jane Fonda can give all of her money and possessions away to black families. I love the way rich people think and act, they are so condescending.
I love the way our education system does not successfully teach Math. A person who claims to "Trust Science so much (Mantra of the left) should at least have a basic understanding of Math.
She's so out of touch. Wow. The elite are so trippy. I love being a half and half. Jane, can i get a loan? I'm a fire capt. I actually make money in the bay area and i look black!! Can you believe it!?!?
Great.. another person who uses the word " elite" perjoretively . Would you want an elite doctor or a one with 8 malpractice suits brought against him ?
Yeah, Jane is too idealistic. I'm sure she's smart but she probably surrounds herself with people that think like her and they all get together and affirm each other's values. I doubt she spends much time with blue collar workers who are struggling to pay bills. Bill might say some silly things but I think his cynicism is pretty accurate when it comes to human behavior. On a positive note, it is to see that they disagree but still like each other, especially when Bill gave her some flowers at the end of this podcast.
@HusamSimaan She's Hollywood elite and I know you know that was my implication. My wife is a physician. I think she can work on me anytime. I live on the coast of the Silicon Valley in California. There are specific laws to protect against red lining, a bank can get seriously fined if this happens. There are audits. She does not know what she is talking about
News Flash…banks want to give you money so badly we had financial crash in 2008 because you could get a stated income loan. You have to have credit. Debt to income is fucked because of crushing student loans for getting black history degrees and afro American studies.
Per the National Association of Realtors: "Beyond affordability, Black and Hispanic home buyers also face extra challenges in getting a mortgage. Black Americans have the highest denial rates for purchase and refinance loans. According to Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data, 20% of Black and 15% of Hispanic loan applicants were denied mortgages, compared with about 11% of White and 10% of Asian applicants. Further, denial rates for Black Americans are even higher for home improvement loans. Black Americans were denied applications for nearly 17% of loans for a home purchase, 17% of loans for refinancing and 51% of loans for home improvement."
Not surprised Jane Fona doesnt think California is left enough. In an invterview in 1970, she said she wanted her daughter to grow up in a marxist america. Its hard to be left of Jane Fonda.
Is there a human being that thinks California is better now, than it was before Democrats got a super majority six years ago? Is there anyone that lives there who actually thinks it's better now? All the metrics show it's worse in almost every measurable way.

I wouldn't quite use that formula to arrive at ignorance, it's more that she seems ossified into thinking it's still the 1980's or 1990's at latest. Being arrested at climate change protests a number of times in recent years (alongside Ted Danson at least once), and the other good causes she has supported for many a year deserves some goodwill. For a lot of other stuff though, she's just very out of date. It takes about half the time she thinks to build a nuclear power station, and I doubt she's too well read on the advances in that field. I was surprised that Bill used the example of his garage door having three regulations as a rebuttal to whatever it was she was saying about Cali. would have expected his solar debacle that was such a long ongoing thing on his real show, and since solar had been mentioned as being so much better than nuclear.
We've paid trillions to needless overseas war efforts, Jane is right, our tax dollars could be paying to help others help themselves, helping world wide. I'm a veteran saw too many loses including my own partner, for our foreign interest in oil. When we fix our healthcare and stop paying for wars and start investing in our futures world-wide, we will stop heading towards 1984.
The United States is the most generous country in the history of the world. In 2022 alone, we gave $70 Billion to countries struggling with food, water and other basic needs. Do some research on Google about USAID and all the other programs the U.S. uses to benefit those in other countries. JFK initiated USAID in 1962, before that we rebuilt the nations which were destroyed in WWII. You need to do your homework.
Jane Fonda's father Henry Fonda was a WWII War Hero and Actor. Jane grew up one of the most spoiled people on earth and like most hippies hated her father for his WWII Service and the cushy life he provided.
gungriffin .. you must be too young to have experienced the 60s directly. The anti-war movement at that time was definitely not opposed to World War Two. Young draft age people correctly opposed the completely unnecessary and ill advised U.S. involvement in Vietnam's civil war and , more importantly, the genocidal manner in which the 'conflict' was being conducted whilst never actually trying to 'win', but merely to run up enemy casualty numbers for face savings sake. The only relationship to WW2 was the fact that it was gung ho WW2 vet military brass, sending lower income boys to their death in the meat grinder for no good reason... quite the opposite situation from the valiant efforts of their fathers to defeat the nazis in Europe and the global aspirations of Hirohito's Japan. I never heard any one of my peers denigrate or question the reasons for their fathers' and uncles' service. If anything, the military's conduct of the Vietnam Conflict was seen as an embarrassment to the pride of our veterans.
Jane says minorites are prevented from getting loans by laws that remain in place, "like redlining." About 30 seconds later, when asked to elaborate, she says "I don't know about the laws." A minute and half later, when asked how to address the economic disparity, she says "we need to change the laws, change the regulations." Then she follows that up by saying "I don't think redlining is legal anymore." I'm getting the sense she feels deeply about this subject, but doesn't have a strong grasp of the current circumstances.
In 2018 and 2019, lenders denied 18% of Black mortgage applicants, which is more than double the rate for white applicants. Black applicants are also more likely to be denied than Latino applicants, who are about 1.5 times as likely to be denied as white applicants.
@@katiedowns7868 That might be the case, and, without seeing the economic factors involved with those applicants, I'll concede that the institutions making those decisions could be discriminating. That doesn't point to a law though. And the observation I was making was that she's claiming there are laws in the books, then saying she doesn't know, and then returning to the original claim.
@@scarletsletter4466 Yeah, I recognize and acknowledge all that. That's why my comments weren't super charged in language . Electric cars aren't more affordable because big oil and gas won't let them be. Same people who won't let us do away with most plastic pollution. This is what we are talking about. Greed. They won't let it happen. In China electric cars are super cheap.
People on here are always complaining about Bill talking over the guests. I don’t notice that so much. I'm about the same age as Maher. Jane Fonda reminds me of my ladyfriend's mother who is 91. She is healthy and has a functional brain but it's not up-to-date. She has just ever so slightly fallen behind in the world's and the nation's political/social issues, trends, etc.
@@MrRichDavid She is unaware of several basic social trends. For example, California has far... _farrr_ more regulations than other states. Fonda did not know that. I knew that and I am sitting in an uncomfortable chair in Ohio.
@@mikewalters3048 Fonda is not affected by regulations in California as she has enough money to rise above. I don't have her money but I realize regulations are PROTECTIONS for health and safety of people. Air, water, food, construction all must have regulations to protect people from greed and stupidity. California also has 40 Million people and it is simple minded to just say "there are too many protections". Maher constantly whining about his solar panels and garage door how long it takes, etc he must hire bad contractors....4 years ago I had solar panels installed and just recently had a new garage door installed in California, and the solar company pulled the permits and the door I didn't need one. I have lived in Cal for over 60 years and the benefits out weigh the costs.
Jane Fonda seemed tense and nervous, it was clear Maher and she are very different people, and she had to allow Maher to talk talk talk as he always does...I think Fonda couldn't wait to get out of there.
The most sensible thing I heard Jane say out of the whole interview is, “I don’t know.” All races are discriminated against as far as getting loans nowadays. It’s called social credit score and wave inherited it from the CCP.
I fell in love with Jane Fonda the first time I ever saw her. I'm that shallow. But, nothing she has done has made me change my mind. Let's see what happens with this Maher interview! ; )
Jane is a goddess. We’re lucky to have her. As far as her being disconnected, wealth or fame or nepo status aside, she’s met, sat with, loved and conversed with most of the most influential architects of this century and continues to have a vested interest in the world. She’s no fool.
Having seen a number of films with young Henry Fonda from the 1940s, I think he was WAY better looking than Clark Gable and at least as much the pretty boy that Cary Grant was.
Vietnam vet here. I couldn't finish this episode. Her persistent all-knowing demeanor seems to have gotten even more assertive over the years . . . goodbye Hanoi Jane.
Bill, "Your parents weren't anything special, looks wise"...... What an absolute asshole thing to say. No wonder no chick ever married this comedian Mr. Magoo.
Bill says really awkward inappropriate things to women all the time. He is emotionally stunted and immature. That’s why he prefers to date 20-year-olds that don’t challenge him in any way.
She needs to consume left leaning, right leaning and, most importantly, independent news sources. Then once she sifts out the propaganda what remains should come close to actual news.
I am a HS teacher. My friends are teachers. This issue is really blown out of proportion! Bill, if you are listening to people on Tic Tock who claim to be teachers, YOU are wrong about this.
I wish I could thumbs up more than once. It's my biggest complaint, he talks about himself too much. And the pot smoking muttles his brain where he has trouble being coherent.
He constantly interrupted her, discounted everything she said, and then chided her for no letting him finish a sentence. Jane doesn't have everything right - I think she was way wrong about nuclear power, and if 30 years ago we had built those plants we'd be sitting pretty now with cheap clean nuclear, and have an economy of scale ability to churn out cookie-cutter safe nuclear plants and sell them around the world instead of having our lunch being eaten by China.
I love Jane. But it was so fascinating to hear her pontificate on how the whole world should change, and the US should be responsible for that change. Did it ever occur to some people that maybe they don't want to change, and if they wanted to, they would and ask for help? The religion of climate change is on full display in this interview. "Just give them solar and electric cars." People have no idea how much environmental damage comes from electric cars. 😕 I stuck through it because I love Jane, but this really left me on a soured note.
Not nearly as much environmental damage as oil burning vehicles. A lot of the anti-EV media and comments are from companies and people getting paid by the oil companies that make a whole lot more money than electric companies and EV automakers not named Tesla.
you love a sick, lying actress who was handed a note with at soldiers info on a small piece of paper and she gave it to the Viet Cong who were genociding White American soldiers in Viet Nam. That is sick.
I love that he tells her these are what they bought. How touching, I'm sure. Jane prefers the flowers stay in the field and feed bees. She didn't bring Bill a fur.
At minute 23, I am still waiting for Maher to give Fonda a chance to speak! Everything Bill has said so far, we’ve heard 100s of times. It’s his broken record that he throws on the turntable and repeats ad nauseum.
That is not exactly the actual truth. Even with good credit, the people who make lending decisions are all controlled by political agendas. And that is true for middle-to-lower-middle-class white people - NOT just racial minorities.
That is not exactly the actual truth. Even if one has the income and good credit, the people who make lending decisions are all controlled by political agendas, both on a local level, as well as larger scale.
Jane Fonda looks amazing for 87 & she still remains feisty as ever. I could tell that Bill was strongly on other sides of Jane's arguments, but he always remained respectful. My Jane Fonda moment was at her book signing in San Francisco many years ago. I was standing in line & was told I would not be allowed to say anything to Jane. But I did! I told her I had seen her at a political rally at Kent State in the 70's. Much to the chagrin of the handlers, the line was held up for 10 minutes as Jane talked about that rally in surprising detail. As the handlers were at last moving me along, Jane stood up & yelled at me: hey, read my book!"
I love the back and forth here between Bill and Jane. They push each other into enlightening moments. Bill's realism (some might call it cynicism) pushes Jane to shine her optimism and hope more clearly. It made me tear up. No one has the answers that will work in our climate crisis yet, and we don't know if we'll save our planet or not.
I lean towards cynicism, but try to stay optimistic. She's been out on the frontlines for a lot of good causes over the years, but does seem a little naive or stuck in a different era on a lot of topics. The climate crisis problem is solvable, in my opinion. The scientists sometimes don't help when making predictions about tipping points that come and pass. When it was termed global warming, Inhofe brought a snowball into the Senate to 'disprove' it, and some people believed him. I would wonder whether fossil fuel lobbyists contribute to his campaigns. There has been things that have been done over the years, like banning CFC's leading to a regrowth of the ozone hole, or adding calcium filters to coal power plants to catch much of the sulphur emissions that was causing acid rain. Progress, but so much more to be done. What does kind of worry me is the newer generations that are so vocal in complaining about how much we older types have ruined it ( valid enough), but are also the same types that buy the most fast fashion (using sulphur dyes and material that'd disintegrate after 3 washes), lot's of cheap throwaway electronics that can't be repaired (lithium, cobalt, magnesium mining etc) and love to use 'ai' to try to form a sentence, answer a basic question, or create a silly picture etc ( using vast amount of power, to the point where Microsoft wants to restart a nuclear power plant just to power one their 'ai' features) ... sigh
The market will decide the answers for us to the climate crisis, and solar and wind are cheap. The drawbacks are less serious than developing clean coal or zero-waste nuclear. However, if scientists and engineers _were_ able to come up with promising nuclear reactor designs, I doubt the construction time would be 10-20 years as she maintained. Is she is basing these timelines on the interminable California High Speed Rail boondoggle? Leftists, don't preempt nuclear before technology makes it safe and viable from the radioactive waste perspective.
I enjoyed it also. I am dismayed by all of the negative comments here. Not sure why people choose to watch an interview where they obviously despise the host and the guest . . .

Nothing is holding them back, except themselves. Can we please stop acting like it’s 1960!!
At least your 24 subscribers believe you. There's centuries of history that dispel your "experience" in "luxury real estate"

And way better looking than Bill, lol.
Clark Gable was not handsome. Bill is a fan of Gone with the Wind. Unwatchable for me.
Ok, you have on commie Hanoi Jane, who thinks California is not communist enough. Can you please play the Kanye West you recorded.
Chill on the right wing meth.
Magoo.
Yep. And he said that immediately after calling her a "world class piece of ass".
Nah, it's just weed talking.
and what's with the jack benny glasses ?? is that the best he could do ??
Bill says really awkward inappropriate things to women all the time. He is emotionally stunted and immature. That’s why he prefers to date 20-year-olds that don’t challenge him in any way.
@@GregM-ws4hq If he has that little measure with a little weed and a couple of shots of tequila, he's an amateur.
Bill please let your guests talk more than you.
I wish I could thumbs up more than once. It's my biggest complaint, he talks about himself too much.
And the pot smoking muttles his brain where he has trouble being coherent.
Seriously. He needs to have a political debate timer on him.
He constantly interrupted her, discounted everything she said, and then chided her for no letting him finish a sentence.
Jane doesn't have everything right - I think she was way wrong about nuclear power, and if 30 years ago we had built those plants we'd be sitting pretty now with cheap clean nuclear, and have an economy of scale ability to churn out cookie-cutter safe nuclear plants and sell them around the world instead of having our lunch being eaten by China.
but it's his ego show ...
Not this one. She has zero insights.
I stuck through it because I love Jane, but this really left me on a soured note.
Not nearly as much environmental damage as oil burning vehicles. A lot of the anti-EV media and comments are from companies and people getting paid by the oil companies that make a whole lot more money than electric companies and EV automakers not named Tesla.
you love a sick, lying actress who was handed a note with at soldiers info on a small piece of paper and she gave it to the Viet Cong who were genociding
White American soldiers in Viet Nam. That is sick.
I recall she said solar and wind.
It's like someone opened up 1967 and brought her forward. She still is ignorant.
Lol. So true.
Giving Jane flowers at the end was sweet and classy and the "release you back into the wild" made me laugh hard. Great episode!
I love that he tells her these are what they bought. How touching, I'm sure. Jane prefers the flowers stay in the field and feed bees. She didn't bring Bill a fur.
@rainmanjr2007 At least he admitted his team helped get them and Jane seemed very happy with them.
She is so out of touch with reality with the common hard working American citizen she's lived in a privilege bubble her whole life.
Jane acts like it is still the 1960's.... The virtue signaling in her is so ridiculous.....
enlighten me what the difference between 1960s and now?
At minute 23, I am still waiting for Maher to give Fonda a chance to speak! Everything Bill has said so far, we’ve heard 100s of times. It’s his broken record that he throws on the turntable and repeats ad nauseum.
I love Bill, but you are correct. He just can't break free of loving the sound of his own voice.
and kid's these days .. get off my imported luxury car ...
If you have good credit you get a mortgage. What is Jane talking about?
Saying minorities don't have the opportunity to develop a 700/800 credit score.
Not exactly, lol
I know, why don't you?
Stop voting you complete idiot.
Not sure why people choose to watch an interview where they obviously despise the host and the guest . . .
interesting interview both have a similar world view with different perspectives-nice to see people living out their lives in different ways and approaches while still be both civil and friendly towards each other, this should have been the christmas edition as peace and goodwill towards man and women is still alive and kicking as long as these two shall live-good hour long random chat
This is hilarious and Bill was too nice to her. She is deluded. Living proof that you don’t always get smarter as you get older.
Bill... trump NEVER talks about you. Stop the BS
Right
He tried to sue him and has posted about him ffs
@mkatepaski9947 that was 11 years ago.
Trump doesn't give 2 shots about Bill,That was years ago
I thought the same thing.
She's made the world a better place with her activism, so she's not so naive
Not for Vietnam fighters for the US. She made it worse for them. They still think she is vile. She has apologized; however, when death is on the line they tend not to forgive her. It’s was wholly sad for them.
Find one and talk to them.
These two are NUTS .....
