Man, I have to say as someone who normally doesn't play Paradox games in multiplayer because they take forever, Stellaris is AMAZING. This whole game was played in about 4-ish hours, and it was shorter and smaller than usual but it was still a near full grand strategy game in a short time, running at the fastest speed the whole game. Super fun.

The flood are actully playing like the flood LMAO
Gestalt ethic, Hive Mind, then the Devouring Swarm civic. You can't do any sort of diplomacy, but you can declare war on anyone at any time (because "Hunger") and you get pretty incredible boosts from eating enemy civilians.
You can also just play as a Hive Mind, no Devouring Swarm. You're not as good at eating planets, but you can make friends.

That's literally every game of Stellaris I've played as a devouring swarm against my friends. I secretly message both sides discord promising mercy and eventually I get them to turn on each other and have small little wars until eventually I invade one of them with the help of the other and then pull all my fleets back as my ally goes in and then while both sides are fighting it out I send all my fleets to where all their's are and wipe all players out in one battle.

This was actually the first time I played Stellaris in multiplayer, and it's easily my favourite multiplayer Paradox game. Sat at the fastest speed the whole time, no lag, and completed the game pretty quick - around 4 hours. That was amazing. Stellaris is by far my favorite of Paradox's games and i like that you enjoyed it. Is it possible for you to play it again in the future? Maybe role play as different empires and talk to each other like your empires would. Oh and almost forgot PURGE THE FILTHY ZENOS!

@@AW-qz4kk Although I might agree with you when it comes to AIs and most of the Tyranid swarm isn't actually intelligent, I am pretty sure that the Hive Mind is and thus should be able to use logic and reason to figure out what to do with enemies so that they can adapt to them. It would also be what decides to deploy certain types of troops to a battlefield depending on what they might be facing as well as what makes them so terrifying to fight.
As soon as I saw the Flood had taken over half of the galaxy, I knew they needed to start making the Halo rings

A note for your future reference. The regular rule for multiplayer games is that Ring world, habitat and scion are banned origins because they're all kind of OP.

Gotta love how Foehammer took advantage off the newbie game as a devouring swarm.
Protip for newbies with those enabled: If you let a devouring swarm gain too much territory, they'll get a super strong industry (more than a player of the same size). And with that, they'll build ships with 25% more health for 25% less the cost.
Basically if there's a devouring swarm, you must destroy it early before it gets too big to handle.
The best part of the Flood thing was nobody being able to interpret The Flood.

You guys missed an opportunity to have a Bird empire of Fanatic Pacifists called the "Peacecocks."
Seeing state of Rimmy's economy and fleets and research at 2300 hurts me. Guess this is what it feels like for a veteran watching a rookie for the first time, i don't like it.
I was trapped in three systems for 90% of the game until I just turned on my federation allies and murdered them instead. The Federation start totally fucked me by not only taking my habitable planets but locking me in the corner and making every expansion stupidly expensive. There was bugger all I could really do. I was also attacked twice by Fanatical Purifiers and barely held up.
@@RimmyDownunder Don't worry, the patch notes from _today's patch_ (2.7 'Wells') mention that they changed spawning behaviour as to always give you access to at least _one_ system not connected to one of your allies/basically-vassals if you chose the Common Ground/Hegemon Origin.
While I'm at it, when it comes to multiplayer and you want to keep things balanced, banning Shattered Ring (as you mentioned already), the two Federation Origins (both because of cheese tactics that as of today's patch are no longer possible and the problem that you ran into), Void Dwellers (if the player using it knows how to properly tech-rush, that is) and any kind of Total War-capable empire (the three 'genocidals'; Fanatic Purifiers, Devouring Swarms and Determined Exterminators, as well as the otherwise diplomacy-capable Driven Assimilators) is usually a good idea.

Admin buildings are a trap unless you have a significant research job base. Floating extra capacity is a waste and gives no benefit. That said, being 100 over admin cap AND not having a good research team is really bad. Unemployment and lack of housing is a much worse issue, because if you start losing production it can spiral into a losing cycle quite easily. The Flood knew what they were doing, and with the game on Fastest they could blob out and crush people with no time/experience to micro. (That and ringworld start for a hive/machine race is truly bonkers with no consumer goods to worry about - you can keep your research segment fully crewed and tech rush easily)
@@Lakius He wouldn't be floating any capacity though. Pretty sure he was more than 200 over at one point, with space and minerals available to build. The debuffs at that point are very significant, and building just one or two buildings would significantly reduce them. I'm not saying it's a fixall, but it's definitely a good jumping point from where to start fixing his empire. Allowing him to (try) and catch up on tech and unity; moreso than building research buildings, as the empire sprawl would just diminish any gains on that.
