Hi, welcome to ColdFusion (formerly known as ColdfusTion).
Experience the cutting edge of the world around us in a fun relaxed atmosphere.
In this video we'll take a look at how Open AI taught a robotic (shadow robot) hand, human level dexterity by using interesting artificial intelligence techniques.

The open AI bot learnt thousands of different scenarios with different gravity and physics variables. We only have one 1g with real world physics. Hence we only need about 5 yrs of training. However when first encountering low G's we have to relearn some of the variables. This bot wouldnt have to.

Not only robotic applications, but also hybrid human-robot (cyborg) applications (involving dexterity): imagine people without hands/arms/legs (or with Parkinson's disease, etc) receiving such "gadgets". This can revolutionize the way we do medicine also...

Glad to see them perfecting the seemingly inconsequential but extremely important skill and dexterity of human-like hands, which, when paired with the larger, more visible abilities of the likes of Boston Dynamics' machines, shows how robotics in today's technology is fulfilling the dream that fiction only dreamed of. Knowing that AI (software) is essentially improving by leaps and bounds, it seems the near future itself is going to be very interesting, almost regardless of whether AGI or beyond is achieved soon or later yet.

Kobus Downey - Nope we have firmware that's designed itself to do it over millions of years. What OpenAI have created will likely for the basis of the Firmware for robot kind going forward meaning that by your argument, it will take the next robot that implements it seconds to learn what takes us years.

Yeah, but does that mean AI is almost on human mind level? when i see these vids i think we are not far - we have AI with ability to learn and beat human in every game (including perfect orientation in environment and making right decisions with righ tools) , we have AI with abillity of handling fingers as human beings which is unbelieveably complex task! We also have AI which is somewhere near simulating human walking! I guess from now there will be short time for something really big!

We need to begin preparing more for AI taking over jobs. AI may not be ready to take over many tasks or whole jobs tomorrow or the next day, but we are learning how to make them better very quickly and as shown in this video shortening the length of time it takes to teach them new things. So, we can't start preparing when the the threat is imminent, we need to start yesterday. And IMO, much of the preparedness will involve some pretty deep changes sociologically in how people think about work, income, and the division of labor.

If you think about it, our current financial model is unsustainable. Every day man hours are reduced due to optimizations in computer programs and technology, sure some jobs are created but its continually in deficit. Capitalism cannot continue without massive pain felt by the majority. The only thing I know that can help is governments working towards making the basics of life as free as possible which would actually stimulate the economy but is very much needed long term.
I believe the next 50 years is going to define our humanity or lack there of.

    • @Lazypackmule

I don't think there's a way out of this without people getting hurt
The only solution anyone can seem to come up with is implementing socialist policies, but if we do that too early, before automation is too prevalent, then it could halt that progress entirely and leave us with a garbage economy and none of the expected automation to pick up the slack
Since there's no way to know when exactly the perfect time would be(and with the government being predictably slow on the uptake), then the only remaining option is to wait until it's too late for some people, things have to get worse before they get better

So... my view of this is that it depends greatly on the input info... there is no denying that the algorithm itself may be advanced, but one cannot simply obtain a certain behaviour w/o some form of specific input (i.e. referring to the task). When researchers will be able to do that will we be in the completely digitalised era... which is quite frightening by itself 😬
