    My existing flange was 1/4" below floor, but the instructions said to use the spacer, so I did. It was so high that I was afraid to tighten it down without cracking the bowl, so I left it sit a couple of days, and sat on it a few times to add weight. It eventually compressed almost to the floor, and I was able to tighten it the rest of the way. I'd recommend sitting the spacer in the sun or on top of your water heater first so it will compress more easily.

    Here is the answer to the problem: I had 3 failed attempts all resulting in leaks. Then I got smart and put the blue seal on the toilet first (because it is a snug fit around the hole in on the bottom ) and lifted the toilet onto the spacer and the screws. It fit like a hand in a glove and you can actually move the toilet and feel that your aligned. I think Fluidmaster should mention this because it would save a lot of frustration. I think it's a good product but once again "operator error"prevails. Once again thinking out of the box saved me.

      I will have to give this a try. The blue ring is smaller than the hole in the bottom of a knee American Standard toilet. When I installed the toilet per instructions the toilet say 3/4" above the floor and I couldn't even stack shims high enough to solve the problem. My flange is level to the floor and as much as 1/8" above the floor.

    I think you left out some important information: what does the junction of the blue thing and the toilet horn ACTUALLY look like??
    I would have liked to see you do a dry fit of the BLUE part on to the toilet horn to give us an idea what the fit looks like. I thought that the idea was for the toilet horn to fit down INTO the blue thing, maybe deforming the inner part downward, and for the outer circumference of the blue ring to fit up against the bottom of the toilet around the horn.
    When I did the test fit on my toilet I found that the edge of the horn of my new toilet contacts the top of the blue ring, but would not fit inside down into the diameter of the blue ring. There was no way to manipulate the blue thing to get the blue thing to be any higher up the toilet horn. If it was a smaller diameter tapered horn it would work, but I didn't feel like grinding the horn on toilet (!!).
    Should the toilet horn fit down inside of the blue thing's tube?
    Should the blue thing's outer diameter sit up against the toilet bottom like a wax ring does??
    Do you make these in different sizes (because not all flange openings are the same diameter, and not all toilet horns are the same size or shape (crazy, right)?

    I bought this because we have to plunge about once every month or so because our toilets have lower flush volumes and they tend to get stopped up. I didn't know if the flange was high or low or even until I took off the toilet. Our flange is even to the floor and the spacer caused it to be too high so I used this without the spacer. There were no problems after installing it but I just installed it today and I will check for leaks periodically to make sure it is a good seal. I sure hope it works because it makes sense to have a more permanent seal than wax.
    I did have one complaint - the washers need to be a size bigger as it kept going down in the toilet's slit so I had to use the old washers. It wasn't that much of a problem but I believe larger washers are needed in that kit.

    From personal experience, I can say this product does not seem to work with Aqua Source toilets. I lifted the toilet three times after fitting the product, but each time I tried to get it to sit properly I found there was a lot of water leaking from under the toilet pedestal once I had reinstalled the toilet. Sadly I had to go back to the old system and fit a new wax ring.

    I just did this install and was replacing a wax seal that failed after only 1 year. Install was smooth and I appreciated the little white plastic screw holders which kept the screws pointing straight up instead of flopping all around as I tried to place the toilet back. I did not put the seal on the toilet first as some others mentioned. I figured that having the seal lined up with the bolt holes and then placing the toilet lined up in those same bolt holes is going to get everything properly aligned. Seems to have worked great. No issues with leaking. The floor hole was right at the level of the surrounding floor. I used the blue seal only and did not use the spacer. If I start getting any leaks, I'll be sure to come back here and comment, but so far, so good. Nice to switch away from the messy, one shot, wax seals. If I need to do another wax seal replacement on my other two toilets, I'll be switching to this.

    • @FluidmasterInc
      @FluidmasterInc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A tip from Fluidmaster that may provide a solution for this issue. In cases where the flange is above the floor or your toilet has a shallow gap it may be better to build up the floor using toilet base plates or shim the toilet rather than using wax. By adding height around the flange this will allow for a proper sealing bead around the ceramic and floor flange which will not break the seal during normal use or plunging of the toilet. Wax will spread but it may spread so thin that the sealing bead around the floor flange will break during normal use or plunging. I just installed an American Standard “Edgemere” toilet using the Fluidmaster universal “Better than wax” seal.
    It worked brilliantly, and was a very easy install on my surface mount closet flange.
    Two observations: one, use the closet bolts that come with the toilet, not the Fluidmaster supplied bolts, unless you see an obvious deficiency with the bolts that came with the toilet; two (assuming no spacer is needed for the install) mount the blue seal directly to the toilet, like you would mount a wax ring, just be sure the ears with the bolt holes align with the bolt holes in the toilet (this ensures the blue seal is correctly surrounding the toilet discharge-if you try to do as shown in the video it’s waaaay too easy to get a little pucker in the blue seal, which will prevent sealing and possibly keep the toilet from properly meeting the floor).

  • @johnkim8396

    Worked great for me. My flange was about 3/8 of an inch below the new floor. After installing the spacer and the seal on the flange and setting the toilet in place, the toilet would not sit on the floor and was rocking bad. Pushing the toilet down by hand did not compress the spacer. I was not optimistic, but went ahead and threaded the 2 nuts. Well what do you know!! The spacer compressed and the toilet sits level to the floor. Was full of worry, but it ended up being easy peasy.

I'd recommend sitting the spacer in the sun or on top of your water heater first to make it more easily compressed.

      Thank you for your comments. The reason Fluidmaster suggests using the spacer first on flanges even or slightly below the floor is because some toilets may have a different recess under the toilet bowl. We have found that most toilets will have a 1/2 inch recess to allow the toilet bowl wax and non-wax products to fit, however, toilet manufactures can make the recess deeper. Fluidmaster suggests trying the spacer first to ensure a proper fit, if it does not then remover the spacer and use the non-wax gasket by itself. In cases where the toilet rocks you may need to shim the toilet to stabilize the base to the floor. If the gap is “so” high that a shim does not stabilize the toilet then using a toilet base plate to build up the floor is a good alternative. By adding height around the flange this will allow for a proper sealing bead around the ceramic and floor flange which will not break the seal during normal use or plunging of the toilet. Be careful in using wax, wax will spread allowing the base to reach the floor, however, the wax may spread so thin that the sealing bead around the floor flange will break during normal use or plunging. If they are going there sell this product they need to include another spacer that is half the size of the one they currently have.

      I've seen this kind of comment before with regard to this product, and, yes, if there are situations where a half-height spacer is required, then the manufacturers should include it with the kit, or mention in the instructions that you might need one. I looked on the Fluidmaster website, and there's not even a FAQ section about installing this product, which is really bad.

      I agree about needing a half size spacer. Not so much cutting it in half yourself. Impossible to get it even enough, so I'm afraid it might not make a good enough seal. But this was my first instinct, also, so hope it worked for you.

    Unfortunately, this didn't work for us. Our flange is 1/4 inch above the floor. We tried the seal, without the spacer, and the toilet rocked considerably. I didn't want to use shims since it looks very makeshift. We returned the unit to Home Depot, and went with the wax seal method. It's not too bad if you apply a little jury-rigging in the installation.

    • @JD-fy7ho

      My wax ring failed despite being replaced only a couple years ago. Felt a little wobble on the toilet one day and then the toilet started leaking into my kitchen.
      In the products defense, the spacer is nearly a half inch, and my flange sits just barely below the flooring. I put in spacer and the toilet was approximately 1/4" from floor. After I sat on the toilet and tightened the bolts, it sat flush and the nuts were still loose on the bolt. Tightened the nuts snugly to bolt and toilet is flush no problem. I think when you first install, the silicone or whatever material has not been compressed/stressed yet.
      If your toilet seems to sit a little high before tightening I suggest sitting on toilet and tightening it anyways, this product worked really well for me. Definitely saved me 300-400$. I would buy this product again in a heartbeat.
      I would really recommend following manufacturers installation process, and even if the toilet seems loose before tightening the nuts and bolts, sit on the toilet and try it anyways. Mine worked really well and my toilet sits flush to the tile despite initially sitting proud about 1/4 inch.

      Doesn't that depend on the state in which the individual lives? Building and plumbing codes are slightly different from one area to another; although most of the obvious concerns would be common among them. For example, 115 v. and 240 v. (commonly referred to as "110 and 220") are the national standard for electricity and corrosion-proof or corrosion-resistant water pipes are the national (maybe universal) standard for plumbing.

Call us at 800-631-2011 for any help.

    ABOVE FLOOR FLANGE SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME: remove the cushion within the actual rubber seal (i'm not talking about the optional cushion they give you for below floor flange, i'm talking about the one within the rubber product). just put on the rubber on the above floor flange and it'll flush seal good, also you may want to put the plastic holders for the screws ABOVE the rubber once you have put the rubber on the bolts, installed approx 30 mins ago, did 5 test flushes so far and no leaks. good luck to all.

I would stick with the wax. I guess it COULD be safe to say that if my flange were the proper height, it wouldn't have fallen off.

    At 3:35, the installer said to put a plastic washer on the bolts before you put the metal washer on. That would make sense to keep the smaller metal washers from dropping into the hole. The problem is, the kit does not come with those plastic washers. 😒

    • @FluidmasterInc
      @FluidmasterInc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The kit comes with 2 plastic retaining washers to hold the bolt in place on the floor flange. Once the bolts are held in place, place the toilet onto the flange. To place the caps on simply place the bottom washer of the cap onto the bolt first then the metal washer and nut. Hand tighten the nut until snug and snap upper bolt cap over the bolt.

    • @FluidmasterInc

      Thank you for your comments. The reason Fluidmaster suggests using the spacer first on flanges even or slightly below the floor is because some toilets may have a different recess under the toilet bowl. We have found that most toilets will have a 1/2 inch recess to allow the toilet bowl wax and non-wax products to fit, however, toilet manufactures can make the recess deeper. Fluidmaster suggests trying the spacer first to ensure a proper fit, if it does not then remover the spacer and use the non-wax gasket by itself. A) This is not a flaw, in most cases because of the recess of the toilet a second blue gasket may be necessary, however if your toilet recess is shallow enough then only 1 blue gasket will be needed. Yes you can use 1 gasket and 1 spacer. If you have any concerns contact Fluidmaster’s Technical Service Department. The 7530 is designed to fit with modern flanges that are 3 and 4 inches in OD diameter. For larger flanges you may need to use wax or new flange. For more information visit our website Fluidmaster.com where you can find product information, videos, troubleshooting tips and email or chat with a technician. Our toll-free number is 800-631-2011 and we are available 5 days a week Mon-Fri from 5:30 am - 5:00 pm PST.

    Doesn't work if the flange is above floor. We were using a KOHLER Highline Classic White 1.28-G toilet, after installing the seal, there was 1/4 inch gap between the toilet and the floor. It would be great if the seal is compressible, but for now we are going with another product.

      They make a sleave adaptor flange, you have to cut the old one out then just slide the new one in the pipe and anchor to floor. I've done this dozens of times on customers renowed baths that went from ceramic tile to plank.

    I used dielectric grease where the toilet mates to the ring to avoid any sticking or puckering.
    Some are saying to install the blue ring first to the toilet and then place the toilet.
    What ever works

      Thank you for your comments, Fluidmaster does not recommend using any type of lubricant or epoxy with the Better then Wax products as it should not be needed. Placing the gasket onto the flange first can be done but may be a little more difficult installing. Without the spacers toilet leaks, with spacer toilet is far, far above the floor and even sitting on the toilet would not even come close to compressing the spacer. I would crack the toilet if I had to tighten it anymore. I'd you buy this keep your fingers crossed your flange is at just the right height to make this product work.

    It didn’t work.
    My flange is above the floor level, I followed the proper steps but my toilet does not seat flat, I’ll have to use the wax (unfortunately).

    • @FluidmasterInc

      A tip from Fluidmaster that may provide a solution for this issue. In cases where the flange is above the floor or your toilet has a shallow gap it may be better to build up the floor using toilet base plates or shim the toilet rather than using wax. By adding height around the flange this will allow for a proper sealing bead around the ceramic and floor flange which will not break the seal during normal use or plunging of the toilet. Wax will spread but it may spread so thin that the sealing bead around the floor flange will break during normal use or plunging. Thanks for the extremely helpful video. I followed all your steps and the install went without a hitch. The only thing I had a problem with was the flange screw was too short so I used the old one. I hope this product works as advertised and if it does I will use it on my other toilets.

    You say they work on any toilet but do they work with wall toilets or dual mount, wall outlet toilets such as like, say for instance an Eljer Walford (wall mount) or a Kohler Barrington (dual mount).

      These also can be called spacers and allow you to build the flange up towards the floor surface. TH-cam doesn't allow us to insert an image in a reply. If you call us at 800-631-2011 and provide us with your email, we could send you an image. Thanks.

    Doesn't this flange reduce the pipe diameter right at the point where it usually clogs?

    • @FluidmasterInc
      @FluidmasterInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it does not, we do place a sleeve at the bottom of the gasket that fits inside the pipe, however if the sleeve bunches up or distorts it can be cut away without affecting the seal and the way it performs. Fluidmaster suggests getting a second 7530 kit and using the 1 spacer unit with both blue gaskets to make a proper seal. However there are spacers available from your local hardware store that you can purchase to place on top of your floor flange. These spacers are available from manufacturers like Oatey and Pasco. What keeps the bolts from spinning when you screw on nuts as what happened in my case

    • @FluidmasterInc
      @FluidmasterInc  ปีที่แล้ว

      If the bolts are turning there are a couple of ways to stop this. The easiest way is to get a washer and nut and lock the bolt to the flange. If you do not have an extra set of washers and nuts then hold the bolt below the nut while turning the nut. As soon as the nut gets low enough on the threads hold the top portion of the bolt and continue turning the nut until hand tight. The blue seal does not properly fit down in the flange causing the seal to fold in and leak. Plus the toilet wobbles

    • @FluidmasterInc
      @FluidmasterInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is a quick solution when the 7530 toilet seal is bunching up in the center of the pipe. Simply cut the overhanging piece out to make a flat seal. As for the wobble if we are talking about a slight gap, then shimming the toilet, the same procedure you would use with wax, is the standard solution. Thanks. I do have a question though the flange is just below tile so I installed the spacer first... BUT I’m not so sure about the height that stack makes. The toilet rocks excessively until I nearly have my full weight upon the bowl.
    I want to be sure I don’t damage the toilet by having to tighten up too much
    Should I shave 3/4” eg off of the spacer?

    • @FluidmasterInc
      @FluidmasterInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

For additional questions on this Fluidmaster product contact us at your earliest convenience. DOES IT COME WITH TWO FUNNELS IF 2 1/2 BELOW THE FLOOR OR DO I HAVE TO SPEND ANOTHER $12 FOR TWO OF THESE?

    • @FluidmasterInc
      @FluidmasterInc  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Only the spacer and one blue seal comes in the kit. If two blue seals are required, you will need to purchase another kit. If your flange is truly 2 1/2" below the floor, you may want to use a flange extender instead of stacking so many seals. You would need to stack up to 5 blue seals or a spacer and 3 blue seals as it is now. Please look into raising the lever of that flange if possible.
