Thanks! I did my first (and only, so far) toilet install a few months ago with the Danco All-in-One kit shown here. It was VERY easy and I had peace of mind knowing that if I had to re-seat it (due to alignment or height issues, etc.) that I could do so without fear of causing leaks. The kit worked great and I have had no leaks.
One thing to point out, if your flange is 'high' and you find yourself needing to remove the black plastic insert, I highly recommend following the instructions *exactly* and doing the first seating attempt with the insert still installed; THEN remove the toilet and insert (if necessary), and re-seat. I've seen bad reviews of the AIO kit where the wax collapsed into the drain pipe and choked out the inside diameter, and I STRONGLY SUSPECT they removed the insert BEFORE the first seating attempt (which extrudes the wax into the pipe). I think the insert is necessary during that first seating to keep the wax against the walls of the pipe instead of squeezing its way into the center and partially blocking the drain!
Bottom line: follow the Danco instructions exactly and don't try to outsmart it!

I used the Danco hybrid and it worked out very well for me although it didn't include those fancy bolts and extenders. I had to buy them separately. Thanks for the video!

So on your video you mentioned which one would be the correct wax or the rubber Fluidmaster flange you never spoke which one would be the best to use please respond

I've used the Better Than Wax a couple times......no leaks right off the bat. Problem with the combo is it still has the nasty mess of wax. Also, I think cosmetically, the supply line loop should have been reversed so it's under the tank and not sticking out.

I have one I should do since It's been taken apart & everything inside changed. Danco probably. Thank You & slow down a little for us plumbing dummies 🤣🤣🙌🏻

I had to reset my toilet due to a small leak. Since the flange was resessed slightly, I used one of these Danco units and it worked great, no leaks.

Just recently discovered your channel and love it! I've watched a number of your video's already and they are so informative. I've used the old style wax ring many years ago before these rubber types were probably invented. If I were to tackle this job again I'd definitely prefer the new style. Thanks for all your video's!!!

Just some things to add you don’t need Teflon tape on your supply line because there’s a gasket in there, but it doesn’t hurt.
Second, if the toilet seems to rock, don’t overtighten it use toilet, shims, or caulking.
Danco perfect seal does not use those bolts anymore. They just use normal bolts. I guess there was a problem with people understanding on how to use them and they simplified it. Also be careful installing to the fill valve hand tight and may quarter turn. That’s why it has wings to grab.

After working at a health clinic, the fluidmaster rubber gasket worked everytime. The wax seals developed leaks from people shaking or shifting the toilets, how and why. Changed to the rubber gasket and never had that problem again.

It will not leak for two years. After that, from experience, the foam gasket of the rubber gasket deteriorates and start leaking.

The wax ring is smaller diameter than the drain pipe would that cause a problem ?? It hangs in like a 1/4 inch inside the flange diameter

Neoprene Rubber, has more height options, can be re-used.

Good video. Didn't like that plastic insert tie down. Give me the "old school SS or brass washer with a rubber washer. A bead of silicon will keep that toilet in place. Leave a small spot open in the back for leak detection.

If you have a old wax seal can you get a old water smell coming through? Cant figire out where it comes from but seems like its around the toilet but no leaks.

    • @FixThisHouse
      @FixThisHouse  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It is possible, the problem with just wax seals is that if the toilet tilts slightly left or right the ring doesn’t adjust back, leaving a gap somewhere.
To really find out you have to remove the toilet my friend and check it. 🙏🏽

@FixThisHouse OK i was hoping to narrow it down before doing that but might as well and change out the seal, not even sure what the previous owners have but might go with the rubber one you showed, thank you!

My flange is not level but it's secure. Does not move at all. I just think whoever built this hacked in basement bathroom did a poor job. My flange is 1/4" above floor on the high side and 7/16" below the floor on the low side. When I removed the old corroded toilet, it had what looked like a very thick wax ring installed.
What sealing method would you suggest for a tilted toilet flange?

Ive little experience with this but have you all noticed that the two non full wax rings have a SMALLER HOLE DIAMETER than the plain wax over the iron down pipe, and that could be a problem with 'large dumps'??

I use this but hate those closet bolts. I would recommend folks just spend the $5 on a set of actual closet bolts and save the headache of the ones that come in the kit.

If your fill hose has rubber gaskets, you don't need the teflon tape...but i do it too. Better safe than sorry.

No use going the extra mile with the teflon tape on a fitting with a gasket. That's tantamount to putting teflon tape on the threads of your outside garden house.

I can't see how a wax seal gives a good seal in anything but a case where the toilet bowl doesn't budge a micrometer, and how realistic is that? First time big Uncle Hershel sits on the can, I can almost guarantee there will be tiny angular offsets and displacements, and I can't see how the wax seal will remain air or water tight. At least materials with good elasticity will rebound and continue to conform to small angular and other offsets, when Hershel gets back off the can.

I dont like that bolt set-up! I dont feel that just tightening it with that little plastic tool would get it tight enough to the floor. I would pass on that setup!

The bolt set is great. Too much torque on the toilet bolts will crack the porcelain. The real key is seating the toilet properly and ensuring the toilet is perfectly level on the floor ( if not shim).

I feel like unless I have wax directly from the ring to the underside of the toilet, I'd want a bead of silicone on that blue rubber. That blue rubber isn't very reassuring as a seal to me
