John Many thanks for playing these songs, there is no doubt that Scott Walker was way ahead of his time his 'avante garde ' style was superior to the Beatles, and as you know, the Walker Brothers were a duo who reunited in the seventies, John was 67 when he dies from liver cancer in Los Angeles in 2011, sadly Scott died just before the pandemic, he was born in 1943, Alex's version came out in the early seventies and has stuck with me ever since, the passion he delivered in the song was incredible, do watch his version on you tube
We live in strange times, both of these artists were unable to witness this period in history Alex died a day before his 47th birthday, in 1982 while waiting to take a ferry on a dock in Belgium on his way back to England, [heart attack] I never knew it at the time but he lived a mile from me in Finchley North London

Between 1930 and 1945 Japan forced nearly 1/2 million [Comfort women] captured in Korea and China to be used for this purpose, after the war Japan issued an apology, the comfort women were installed in a small cubicle and the men queued to be 'next' sometimes waiting for hours
In Germany during the second world war, the Officers and the soldiers had separate quarters for this activity'

I heard the term 'comfort women' but didn't know this was the purpose. Yikes!

Is there a good reason why Reactors always seem to choose a relatively lifeless audio recording of Alex Harvey, rather than the aficionados live video. Is it a copyright problem.? Alex Harvey needs to be seen. It is the way the visual aspects of the performance and stage setting interact with the music that makes him a genius. He was an all round artist with a talent for acting, characterisation, psychological insight, and portrayal, stage lighting, subtle use of props. None of it is accidental., it is all carefully worked out to add deeper meaning, or even irony, to the performance. Like Wagner Alex Harvey succeeded in being overall Director for every part of the performance, and he was a genius at it.

Well, I don't know about all that. I did this because it was the same song by two different artists. Simple as that. I did a couple other videos with Alex Harvey. You can check them out and see if they fit your description.
