I've played with tracks as a member of an orchestra and we just played normally. In large concert halls and stadia, the P.A. systems are MUCH louder than the unamplified orchestra, and none of the microphones on the orchestra are actually on. We would NEVER do this while performing a Beethoven Symphony or during a opera performance, when none of the singers are amplified. The example Fil played is known in the business as "Popera". Pop music disguised as classical opera, performed by classical musicians. Nearly all of our concerts are live and unamplified. But "Pops" concerts and "Popera" performances are sometimes, but not always, performed with tracks. And I HATE IT!!!
Yes, this, much better explained than me. This is "pop classical" not real pop music. I once went to a "classical" concert that turned out to be this kind of popera, I left in the interval as I thought I may as well be at home listening to a recording.
Yes, Dimash and Lara Fabian are not opera singers, they cannot sing without microphones. They are all popera singers, in these two performances except for Hvorostovsky and Garifullina. And honestly both of them are not really the best of opera singers either.
I don't think people are paying their money and getting all dressed up to hear recorded singers and orchestra. I think soon, to sell tickets, these orchestras will have to explicitly state that they will play live with no backing tracks and their guest singers will sing live with no autotune.
Oh I really do hope so, for the minute that begins - and gets its due media spotlight/discussion - will be the minute that same spotlight turns to today's pop audio excrement.
Lara litetally said during rehearsals for that song on that night that she was sick. He reacted to Dimash singing “Know” from the same night and said he was live. So obviously this song happened like this because of Lara’s sickness ,
I'm glad Tim Welch contacted you about this. Great vocal coaches like Tim and Chris (Liepe) should always check on pitch correction as part of their analyses. If not, it makes their analysis less trustworthy. Take for instance the reaction video from Tim regarding to Lady Gaga - Happy Mistake (Jimmy Kimmel Live!). I found out that it was pitch corrected! (put it through the analyse app). It makes the whole vocal performance, but also the analyse blurry for me. What has been edited, and what is real. Lady Gaga herself (I appreciate her) is not only a great personality and singer, bu she also masters the editing proces. She talks about 'electronic music' and stated that manipulating the voice (she mentioned Autotune, Melodyne and MicroShift) widens the sound... "It makes me and the music one", she said. For me this is a complete new paradigm, meaning Lady Gaga is (for me) not primary a vocalist, a singer, but a post-edit artist. For me that conflicts with the essence of human vocals, feeling the expression. Thank you Fil as always.
Well, as far as orchestras go, I remember talking to a guy who was in our crue on a tour I was on six years ago. He was telling me he'd recently been on tour with Sarah Brightman, with a full orchestra. and yes, they'd gone to the trouble ofpaying them all, transporting them and micing them up, but the mics weren't on and it was all on track. Night after night.I can only think how bizarre and daft it must feel to go out night after night and for it not to make a blind bit of difference what you were playing, because noone would hear it.
Post production is pretty standard practice in Russian TV. Fil has analysed the cam version of this performance where the three sang live with zero auto tune. I think a lot of people jumping to the different conclusions in the comments section without knowing anything about Russian TV. This version is basically made as if an MV.
Yeah, but he rather scream fake, way louder than explain Russian Tv. I've seen in other videos where a fan was at a live performance, took video, and the final product released to you tube is overdubbed with a studio version! It's common AF.

as a singer/songwriter I am often told I am crap but the comparison is to these perfectly edited voices. Personally it just takes so much away from enjoying live music, studio music ok its how it is now but the cost to see the mega stars live is so high and to think you are just getting a mime artist. They should all wear white makeup with a bowler hat to perform like proper mime artists. Fil whatever don't do an Andrea Bocelli vid that would just destroy everything about music, I do think ,he is still one of a very few genuine ones - I HOPE! great vid again 👏
@@davidrichmusic121 Jesus, man! Who the hell says you’re “crap”? And often too! Hang out with better people! Good musicians would never say that to another musician…they would be more “helpful” and positive criticism might be measured out.
To be fair, Bochelli may not even be aware they're pitch correcting his voice. Many recording artists don't, I'm sure. At least not many mega stars. My producer automatically puts a light pitch correction over most artists, and I don't even think they're aware of it. That's not to say they aren't, but that may be a possibility on many.

I've been to hundreds of concerts in my life (classical, jazz, contemporary, soul, rock) and I've always come out with a smile and easily forgiven any performance mistake if it ever happened. It doesn't seem to me now that people go to these concerts to really hear music or singing. And in any case they are certainly cheated, probably not knowing what authentic music or singing is and not having an adequate listening culture. Being a musician helped a lot. But..... Honestly I know of this fakery going on since many many years.
I have had it. I refuse to spend anymore hard earned money on fake performances by fake groups and individuals. How many times in the recent past have I been made a fool of. Dont know but I swear I wont be doing in future now that the game is up. I would rather give the money to buskers in the street.
Infatti anche io sono molto combattuta se andare o no ad un concerto (ma uno solo e sono anni che non vado). Staremo a vedere. Io quando lavoro lo faccio sul serio per due soldi, non c'ho la controfigura! Preferisco una stecca dal vivo che un'esibizione finta perfetta!
The piano player (billionaire musician Igor Krutoy) had to be there because it was his birthday show and the singers were his guests, who he asked to sing at that show. (The songs he composed especially for them). So he was the one paying for the whole thing and deciding everything as well. Lara was sick, but he obviously still wanted her to perform. We still don’t know if this tv audio was the same as the audio at the venue. And if the others sang live or not. Fil should have checked fan cams. 😅
BS. Both other singers possibly performed live! Lara was sick and didn't want to damage her voice singing in a cold ice skate ring! She had LIVE solo performances the next week. There's a video on the internet where you can see the three of them meeting a day before, with Lara wearing a scarf to protect her throat. All three normally perform live. Bit nasty of Fil to pick the outlier.
Thanks for finally doing Dimash, too. Like I said before, most of his "live" performances on TH-cam are NOT live at all. Not saying that he isn't a magnificent singer, nor that he CAN'T perform live. Just that most of the supposed live clips on TH-cam by him are NOT live at all. And I'm a fan, just not a blind or deaf one.
I was justing posting something similar. However, this analysis didn't really mention Dimash´s singing in that performance. But the videos of Dimash´s performances with Krutoy are mostly studio tracks indeed.
It is a very touchy subject…as a fan, I am concerned about people who are just discovering his music thinking that ”oh so he is a fraud or fake” when we point out his lip-synching. Like you said, he can sing unbeliavable things live, like I have personally witnessed too. For example, in his own concerts most of the 3hrs set is live, even Sos. Personally I don’t have anything against occasional lip-synching because I believe artists like Dimash do what they must do to protect their voice or sometimes they are forced to. I also dislike the fans saying he never ever lip-synchs, like it would be a terrible sin. They must remember that Dimash is also a human and must make human decisions. I only hope that his image will not suffer from videos like this. Yes, he lip-synchs sometimes, but that does not take anything away from his magnificent live performances and voice.
@@John_Malloy Absolutely, but after a while you can really tell when he's not actually singing live: more posing and something funny with his lips. What I can't stand is when - with certain songs that apparently are never sung live (some fans said that Igor Krutoy wants all artists who do his compositions to always lip synch them to guarantee the pieces are "performed" flawlessly, both by singers and musicians) - you can clearly hear the same recorded version is used over and over during various "live" performances, at various times and various locations and the real fanatic Dears insisting they either sound differently each time, OR they sound the same because Dimash is such a perfect singer. They just don't realize what an enormous pressure such blind (and deaf) worship puts on an artist, ugh.
I was a teen in the 80s. There was a commercial, " Is it Live, or is it Memorex?" Who knew that it would all be Memorex 40 years later. I'm so glad I saw live bands BEFORE, this mess.
Lip syncing is common in Russia. Lara used to mime there regularly in the past. I attended one of her concerts in Moscow in 2010, where she mimed for half of it (Igor Krutoy’s songs) while performing the other half live (her French hits accompanied by her permanent pianist, Giora). However, she doesn’t lip sync in other countries.
Yes, it's absolutely a russian thing. And seems to be a thing for Krutoy's songs, wherever they're perfomed. All singers in this video, including Lara, are amazing artists but here they're just guests performing at Krutoy's show.
I closely follow a young Russian singer, Diana Ankudinova and sometimes she lip-syncs in various events (Not in her own solo concerts) and when I state the fact that there's lip sync in that video, Russian fans don't believe me.
I saw her twice this year in concert, absolutely live and amazing. She doesn't need lypsinc, it's a Russian thing as I already explained in my previous post.
The human desire to be perfect leads to this. We have be to okay with the flaws we see in ourselves and each other. Not be afraid to be criticized or maybe not be so critical of each other.
I agree. People need to stop being so overly critical of singers...like you have to have "perfect" pitch or you "can't sing" and you're not "allowed" to share your songs with the world... it's BS.
I don’t think that’s why so much recent music is manipulated. I suspect it’s so that the record industry can create singers with a certain look, and that they can control. The really good singers have always had an edge over the mediocre singers (with some exceptions). This change looks like a money grab. Imperfections are human. If their voices didn’t somehow attract us, how did Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen become so popular?
We are trying to be robots!! This desire for perfection is a pandemic in many creative industries that have embraced digital form... Adobe does it with photos... videos are going the same way... AI image creation ... remove tools .... and of course in real life, we have botox and other cosmetic corrections... even a slimming pill now. Modern life = press a button, take a pill, repeat.
that is true. This show however was in Russia and I think by now, lots of people already know that there is no guarantee that you can sing live in Russia especially at an event like this one. Imagine having three singers who are good at singing live but instead make them lipsync. I think it is such a waste but well, since this is a birthday show and the birthday boy was in control of this event, its his call.
Actually is years and years that I know that they manipulate classical music for hours and hours on the computer to make it sound " right " (??? !!!! ) before the release, also on CD.
Lara litetally said during rehearsals for that song on that night that she was sick. He reacted to Dimash singing “Know” from the same night and said he was live. So obviously this song happened like this because of Lara’s sickness ,
This is no classical music, not even classical singers. Microphones are clearly and openly used for purposes other than recording the performance. Classical voices and instruments do not use individual close-up microphones, but only TWO microphones positioned at the best place in the hall would be used to capture the sound of the real voices filling the room. Close-miking is like "running" a marathon on an E-scooter. Every untrained weakling can do it. Close-miked singing has as little to do with classical or artistic music, like someone riding a scooter with a marathon runner. The composition is just the same sort of schlocky kitsch that passes for "classical" among lower-class mentally inferior illiterates who listen to Andrea Bocelli or André Rieu.
It's all about money. A vocalist has an illness, sinus infection, sang too much previously, whatever, they must "perform" because you have contractual mandates with the possibility of significantly expensive lawsuits. So many are financially connected to it all, managers, promo people, the musicians, etc.......money!
@@sostakovic Most studios give orchestras a "dry" sound so a reverb technique is used to make the sound seem more like it would in a proper performing venue. This was done long before the adoption of digital tools.
I was a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus when it appeared that the audience of the 1996 Olympic opening ceremony was hearing a live performance. Well, those near us may have heard us singing our hearts out, but the bulk of the audience was hearing a recording session from weeks before the “live” event. I only say this to show this kind of stuff has been going on for decades, at least.
I think that’s expected at sporting events. Those giant outdoor stadiums are not designed for an audience of audiophiles. It’s why I was surprised that people were outraged about Celine in Paris.
@@SuziQ.No, it is not *expected* by anyone anywhere ever. Why is a "singer" even standing at a "microphone" if they're faking it? Really, why? Just play the track in that case.
@@brovold72 , They often do play the track. Their presence is paid for by the advert people. They want big stars to get the home audience to watch the adverts in between performances. I certainly wouldn’t expect anything live at an American football game. The live audience is there for the game, not Mariah Carey singing the sodding anthem.
1: Lara doesn't sing classical music. Though the composition seems a bit classical, it is closer to musical theater than clasical and Lara has a clear pop voice in this piece too. 2: There are several possible reasons why Lara lip synced. For example singing in an ice skate ring when you have a cold or something isn't ideal for your voice. Far as I know Lara usually sings live. 3: Both other singers, Dimash Kudaibergen and Aida Garifullina are classically trained. Aida is a top lyrical soprano and regular guest artist of the world's leading opera houses and concert venues, including the Royal Opera House (London), La Scala (Milan), the Metropolitan Opera (New York), Paris National Opera, Arena di Verona (Italy) and Salzburg Festival. I don't think she would get away with lip syncing there.
For most of the population that cannot sing, do you think we care, or can hear a few cents sharp or flat of a note. We love singers. And the industry has turned the best gift of humand kind into robot sounding junk.
Thank you for your hard work Fil! I haven’t thought so much about autotune and pitch correction before. But some year ago, when Ed Sheeran released a heavily autotuned song I started to notice it more. Then I found your channel and I think that what you do is extremely important! The last two years I have been addicted to the British artist Ren, who really allows his voice to be expressive in the extreme. I don’t know if you know of him, but I think you might like him
Completely agree with you. There’s no way Ren would stoop that far, even if he were having a illness flare up over some weeks or months, I’m positive he would just wait it out. Ren gives individualism a good name!
This is a very interesting analysis. You just affirmed what I suspected myself back when I watched the 2016 video. I doubt the part by Fabian was live then just like the others there are likely playback. About classical singers lip syncing - well it was done on tv shows since the 70s. Not always, but it happened a lot. Btw, I was expecting a classical performance, but this is a temporary popsong written by the guy at the piano, Igor Krutoy. There was also not much classical singing going on, but in the ene what counts is the shady way music is maltreated today. Thanks for the presentation. Greetings from Germany
I've seen clips of Christa Ludwig miming back in the 60s. Don't know if you follow American Football, but Renee Fleming sang live at the Super Bowl, but had a backing track ready in case it was 2 degrees F colder outside.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee When Pavarotti was to sing at 2006 winter olympics opening he was too sick to do so live in freezing cold. He recorded the aria shortly before and mimed it
In the early years you could not do sound and film at the same time. It did start to change around the 50's with the Ed Sullivan show, but that was a rare case.
Yeah, put his neck on the line on his vocal channel by saying he didn't feel he could react to it, and the mob descended. (I've been following him for a while as he explains technique really well, and he's really honest. Try some of his Ren or Chinchilla breakdowns if you're interested.)
Igor Krutoy, and Russia, are well known for doing this. Neither Dimash nor Lara Fabian need to mime as they are fantastic live. Many videos of both on TH-cam singing live, particularly Lara. Lara has many live videos from back in the early 1990s, before the use of pitch correction or auto tune, to the present day. She regularly touring and singing live all over the world.
@@josefraguas5190 do you have to follow people to know they mime? There are obvious performances of him miming and there are obvious performances of him singing live.
@@nigrivon Officialy published videos of his are often from tv-recordings (especially in russia) or award shows where singing live isn't an option, or it's "music video performances" performing to a pre recorded track. In this comment section it becomes clear that Krutoy's songs comes with a backing track, I'm always happy when Dimash finishes those songs at concerts singing a capella or improvising with the crowd, those moments are amazing. He is an incredible singer, he is amazing live but yes, he is really good at lip syncing too. He do lip sync, not because he lacks vocal ability, but because it's sometimes needed, required or the only practical solution.
There are a multitude of videos where Dimash is walking through an airport and spontaneously sings beautifully and powerfully and sweet and soft. On a talk show and spontaneously sings amazingly. Even when he's younger. There are so many live performances by Dimash that totally prove he's one of the greatest singers alive right now. He doesn't like to not sing live. It's just that sometimes it's out of his control. And the circumstances dictate to not sing totally live. So anyone serious about evaluating this can find lots of him singing acapella, totally live.
Agreed. I’m compiling a playlist of all of them. I do think there are some lip syncing examples (I’m not unrealistic) but plenty of live performances that prove he has an amazing voice.
@hmm3484 Good teamwork. Great idea. And we can know for sure there's no lip syncing when he's singing spontaneously, walking through an airport or on a talk show etc. Dimash is one of the greatest singers ever.
That is why people presumably pay *actual* money -- to hear him sing live. I bet "circumstances" didn't "dictate" that the audience did not pay, or that he himself was not paid. One lie makes you *a liar* even if there is video of you also telling the truth at some point.
I saw Lara live in 2013 in Frankfurt Germany...I stood directly in front of her....she has great technique, often sounds very similar to Celine Dion ( both were contestants at the same Eurovision Song Contest)....Laras voice is superlarge and ultrabeautiful..
I know, it's such a shame that the industry has to take a performer that is already great and can perform live pre-record because they want ultra consistency and conformity.
Lara already explained this in an interview; sometimes, organisers will virtually force artists to lip-synch. They simply have no choice for a given event. Igor is, I’m assuming, one of them…

I greatly appreciate your videos. You are doing some work that I think is very important. Just an observation here - how is this in any way "classical"? It's pure typical pop stuff. Keep up the great work!
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Time to find another line of work, then. If, as a musician - one who desires to communicate intimately with sound - you are content to go through the motions of pretending to make music, why bother to take up an instrument and practice its mastery? Just learn how to mime. Karaoke doesn't require musicianship or skill at singing or playing an instrument. If "making scale" requires this kind of fraud, well, refer to my first sentence above. I'm a classical singer and flutist - semi-professional (music is not my primary bread and butter) - and have devoted many decades of personal practice, enemble rehearsal, and performance in order to excel as a musician. For better or worse, when I sing or play, the audience is hearing the music I'm trying to make. But no, I've never made scale as a union professional.
@@curtvaughan2836 If you are making union scale, you accept the terms of the contract your local signs and play what is put before you. I'm on a board of a different non-profit with the chief fundraiser fot the local Phil, and she tells me the cheesy shows where the backing tracks drown them out are very often the ones the corporate sponsors pay the biggest bucks to get the logo on the program. That is the price of getting to perform the music you love in the very same hall.
While I acknowledge Lara Fabian´s singing prowess, I am a Dimash fan. But unfortunately, I see the same pattern with many of his performances he did with Igor Krutoy. Probably, Igor plays the piano live, but what we hear in the YT videos are the studio tracks, not live performances. This is regrettable because we all know that Dimash is a top singer, who can sing very well live (and, in addition, is in no need of pitch correction).
@@EllanaTs I doubt that. After all, Dimash mimes quite often. Just think of his many recent SOS performances using his 2018 version, or his many pre-recorded performances in Chinese festivals. There are also examples of miming even before his 2017 breakthrough (for example, 3 identical performances of the Diva Dance in 2016). Besides, he is a masterful mimer, just as he is a masterful singer. - What wonders me more is why the war keeps Krutoy and Dimash from working together. Of course Dimash doesn't want to perform in Russia as long as there is war, but what keeps Krutoy from writing for Dimash and performing the occasional song in other countries, such as Kazakhstan or Turkey?
I used to Stage Manage a large classical show (full orchestra, two military bands, choir of 100+ and soloists) All fully mic'd. We mainly played big concert halls and arenas and also had a major light and laser show. I'm proud to say that everything was totally live every time.
Keep doing what you're doing Fill. I'm very happy when I see things like this. Because I always thought for the longest time that there could be an issue with my singing. The issue was never me, the issue was Human beings wanting perfection. When in fact, anyone who sings a song from start to finish are never perfect.
To those who mention or discuss the fans. Do you care about what fans say or what the truth is? Why do you need to debate and humiliate fans to prove your point? Is it because you actually don't have a point? Do you need to demolish the fandoms and strip artists of fans or do you need a ticket to the world of imagination, the Utopia where there is no electronics and singers are bards? Good luck with that. You have no idea how fanmania works. About electronics. You object, but your arguments come to me thanks to that same electronics, that first hear your reasoning (need I mention whining?) about how music should sound live at home through the screen, while you are relaxing on your couch? Forgetting that senses are actually something very, very subjective, individual and personal, and what's good for you may not be good for me?! Have you ever been forced by anyone to go to concerts or buy songs? That is the only way to lose money and feel ripped off. If you have, don't let it happen to you again, find another distraction, easy as this one. Leave the artists alone, they know what they are doing and when and how to protect their instruments. Just enjoy them or move on. Even viruses try not to kill the hosts they feed on.
I am surprised that people are acting surprised. This is an old video and many reactors have already said this was not live. Some will believe and some will not. Some like these singers and others do not. Everyone have a wonderful day and love one another
A few years ago you showed how Dimash was lip syncing to songs he was singing in a Russian performance. So I assumed this was going to be lip synced. I didn't know it was pitch corrected. Thanks for all you do Fil.
Remember years ago, when you had your unpleasant interactions with Dimash fans, that it started with another performance of one of the same pianist/composer Igor Krutoy's pieces. At the time, a Russian in the comment section said that nearly all performances on that Russian network were mimed. It was a rule. This 2020 performance was from Krutoy's 65th birthday celebration concert, bringing together many people he had worked with. He wrote music for Lara in 2010, including the song that Dimash was singing that other time. On the night of this performance it was reported that she was quite sick, and on anti-biotics, so I don't know if that was a factor or not.
FIL, you are amazing in your detective work on these videos! Thank you! It’s terribly sad to see lip syncing and autotune being used even in classical singers! Shocking and heartbreaking! Thank you for keeping up the TRUTH and becoming more & more widely trusted as an authority on this disgusting charade in the music industry.
Very wise bit of advice from Fil (and I'm sure Tim would wholeheartedly agree) to aspiring singers (and older ones, too) at the end of this analysis video!
I honestly can' t believe anyone thought this was live lmao. Yes, she was sick but this would have been lipped either way. Russian audiance is not stupid, they all know how Igor operates. Noone was duped into thinking they are watching live show. Lara is one of the greatest vocalists ever, her tours are amazing and she sings 100% live
This is not a Lara concert. It’s a Krutoy’s Russian televised show and she was just a guest. Go look at her own concerts and you’ll see. I challenge this guy to do an analysis of any of her real concerts’ performances. No Krutoy or TV presentations. But her own tours and find lip syncing, autotune or pitch correction.
I don't know why so many people are surprised about this. The long-time Lara fans have known for a long time that this video is lyp-synched, not because the singers want it that way but because almost nothing is live on Igor Krutoy‘s shows. I'm not sure if he wants it or the Russian TV channels, it's all perfect and overproduced, one of the reasons why i don't like Lara's concerts with him.
And the guy is acting like he has solved the world’s biggest mystery. 🙄 This is that reactor Tim Welch’s fault. He was there explaining that he “found this out”… but wouldn’t post a video about it bc he was afraid of the fans’ backlash and of losing subscribers, so he gave the scoop to this guy to do the “dirty work” for him and now is posing there as the nicest guy bc he wants to keep reacting to Lara. The guy is simply pathetic. He even made a poll about it asking if he should post his great discovery or not… 🙄 Go through his community section and you’ll see…
@ Yeah i know and i honestly cringe everytime, some Lara fans request reactions to her concerts with Igor. I've often said that there was no live singing there, but people just don't want to hear it. In any case, i don't watch these performances anymore and i especially never liked this trio with Aida and Dimash.
Another thing is, you don't need technology to see if Lara sings live or not. Precisely because she practically never lyp-synched, you can see immediately when she does it, she really can't do it very well because she's so used to singing live. In addition, a cold would not prevent Lara from singing live, she has sung live with a broken vertebra.
Check out Fil's analysis video of Sara Vaughn in the 1960s, telling the TV audience she has a cold, then goes on to do a world-class performance of "Misty." No techno-tricks back then.
Dimash? This is Igor show, it’s always post production. Look at Fil analysis of the cam version, the actual performance live. Ignorant people are haters.
I teach dance, ballet mostly. And worknwith a lotnof incredible pianists. Musicians, like dancers, are not machines. They absolutely cannot perform 100% exactly the same every time. Muscles may be warmer, cooler, a little sore, and musicians may be relaxed, stressed, a little sore. I think the Orchestra were a backing track, in other words, a machine, because the vocalist, or vocalists were, basically, a machine!
Lara Fabian was fifty in 2020, but her voice sounds an awful lot younger. I still can't get over the fact that Mariah Carey is using a backing track at her 'live' performances with her voice as it was twenty years ago!
Simple solution would be to have a law that says that when using pitch correction in studio or the album or the parts on the studio recording or live are not played by the band themselves, it should required to be clearly indicated.
The best way to control this is the contract between the ticket buyer and the producer of the show. If you don't care when you buy the ticket, don't cry about it later. To me it is like sending money to a TV preacher and then being shocked she bought a gold toilet seat. In both cased you are paying for the show.
So Led Zeppelin IV would get flagged because Sandy Denny? Revolver because The Beatles were not a string quartet? Every Stones album post-Wyman, because his replacement was never a Made Member?
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee What do you mean flagged. They would just need to make it clear in the liner notes on who played what or if software was used to correct pitch, drums, instruments, etc,, so the consumer knows what they are buying, that's all.
@@reactionsaccount3955 No. This is just entertainment. Governmental regulation is absolutely wrong. Should Congress decide what to do with the money in "free parking" when playing the board game Monopoly? This is just a matter of contract law, between the buyer and the seller.

Wow, maybe there was a reason for it, but still they should be transparent about it. I wonder how the orchestra felt about it. This was really interesting to see how you were able to show it was still the same audio file, even though it had been pitch corrected from the original. Love the detail you get into with these analyses, Fil!

What an outrage! I just burst into laughter when I saw the pitch correction. Well done, you’ve done it again. This is the first time, though, I need to correct you. The probability of the 2016 version being live is low. Why would they use this particular recording as the basis for the later one? In all probability both were built from a controlled non live recording, the difference being that they are now also pitch correcting, for an amazingly accurate singer. It would be non live otherwise some of the audience appreciation would bleed through.
This was probably invite-only, and you go there de minimus to network at intermission. Tacky and clever are those who arrive late to miss the "modern" piece,
Again, Dimash and Aida possibly sang live. Lara just lip synced to save her voice. Having a cold, singing in a freezing ice skate hall is damaging to your voice. She had solo concerts the next week. If the traffic light is not red, it doesn't mean it's green. There are a lot more options.
@@arturama8581that makes no sense. The performance was planned with a taped backing track with a pitch corrected vocal and live piano. You don't do that because of someone's cold. That's ridiculous.
Not to be a snob (which always proceeds being a snob, I know), but I'd put quotation marks over "classical" here. This is pop-classical. The likes of Andrea Boccelli, Andre Rieu, Sarah Brightman, Dimash... they're gussied up, schmaltzier pop in formal wear. If we see this with legit classical singers at the Met, Carnegie Hall, LA Philharmonic, etc.... then we're in the Last Days. Not shocked that this highly packaged and Muzak-ified form of "classical" is being tweaked. It's always felt plastic to me.
I don't think that's snobbish, it's accurate. It's definitely nothing new in pop-classical. Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé lip synced for their 'live' performances in 87-88.
I'm so glad someone mentioned this! I wholeheartedly agree: this is far away from Classical music and rep. Your analogies are perfection (Andrea Boccelli, ugh, lord help us all).
I watched a "live" pop classical performance of an outfit called Celtic Woman on TH-cam many years ago. I was convinced back then that it was lyp synced but didn't think much of it as I wasn't very interested. Knowing what I know now from these analysis videos I can see that this type of thing is endemic.
A big part of singing is finding your style and just channeling the right emotion that the song demands. And as my vocal coach says "sometimes you just need ego" Performing live especially, you need to just give a middle finger to peoples judgement and SING. Its funny to me because it really works, sometimes great singers like Freddy Mercury just missed a note but they said f* it and made it work with confidence. Autotune and the obession with perfection has really ruined new singers confidence. For example, yesterday I did a lil cover of Breaking the Law as a joke but I sang quietly because I wasnt home alone and didnt wanna annoy people. But even thou I hit the notes pretty damn accurately, it still sounded flat and boring well because it wasnt the right sound. For example if sing a Johnny Cash tune and your voice is very light and "violin" like, it wont really sound very good. The most talented singers, they have that X factor that allows them to "naturally" channel the right emotion in the moment. For example when Elvis sang, he pretty commonly went sharp (sometimes very sharp) but it was controlled and it just gave an oomph to the sound that just hits different. And then there is the mixing and recording equipment that plays a pretty big role. Elvis sang with a lot of reverb, atleast live because it enhanced his sound but some singers sound alot better with no reverb for example. There is alot that goes into singing and you shouldnt hate your voice, just keep grinding and sing what you desire to sing and I promise you will find your own style :)
If this analysis is indeed of a musical show on one of Russia’s state tv channels, then one should by default be prepared for lipsynching and miming and pre-records. Seriously, it’s just their standards of a tv show. Anything live would be just atypical.
Many mention Dimash here, so let me tell you about Dimash. Dimash has proven himself many times over the years. I know no such singer on YT with so much footage of him singing a cappella, with or without mic. He sang with Domingo in front of his colleagues with an orchestra and nothing but recording mics in front of them. His unique talent however obliges him to take extreme care of his voice. The way you take care of a precious Stradivari. Dears know this and support his choices, and trust the professionals who work with him, not random bloggers and commenters. There will always be new nobodies who will try to gain something from his work, be it for attention or small change, they say that's how social media works. There will always be those who create and those who find joy in spitting on the creators, trying to destroy them. And there will always be his fans supporting him and his concerts that are like a breath of fresh air in the stagnant air of electronics. As the anecdote goes, there are cauldrons in hell that are not guarded by devils. The people inside them knock down anyone who dares to show their head above the tar.
But it seems to me many Dears don't acknowledge that Dimash has to take care of his voice. Many deny that Dimash ever mimes, and will attack anyone who says that he does. If they supported this premise, they would not keep claiming that miming is a rare exception but accept that Dimash does it rather often just because he won't waste his voice by singing live at all events.
@mmsminimalmusic3110 Well, there you are, when you say OFTEN, they will say NEVER. None of it is true. But if you exaggerate, they'll exaggerate big time. They are the fandom. Never try that on a fandom. They'll fight you to the end and many of them are very intelligent and knowing. The OFTEN and the ALWAYS stated in Russia, thanks to the Russian TV and Krutoy. Dimash worked at that time in China and he never had that reaction. Very hostile and very loud. The Chinese really loved him for his uniqueness! However everything for TV was pre-recorded and there you might find correction. But not on his concerts. So remember, whenever you say OFTEN, the answer will be NEVER!
@@mmsminimalmusic3110 Exactly. And when you take in mind that his concerts last three, three and a half hours, his songs are very demanding and he is a solo artist and not a band, you can see the toll on his vocal chords😊
These videos always analyze the vocals from a specific performance, not on their other performances or whether they are good singers or not. You may have misunderstood the point of Fil's analyses by request.🙂
If you like your artists lip sinking to an auto tuned track, that’s entirely on you and your tastes in entertainment. No one, especially Fil is telling you to do any different, you do you!
I believe everything was lip-synced. In the 2016 recording, the singer isn’t properly aligned with the audio track. AND most importantly… classical singers are not used to singing with microphones at all. The dynamic range that classical singers naturally have can only be managed with the type of microphones used here if they move the mic slightly away during louder notes. That doesn’t happen at all in this case. For TV recordings in this kind of setting-which is more kitsch than classical anyway-I generally assume everything is playback.
Renee Fleming is pretty handy with a microphone, but she also started out as a jazz singer who didn't intensely study operatic techniques until grad school. iirc te Kanawa also started out in nightclubs.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee there are exceptions but it is not a primary skill for opera singers to handle a handheld microphone And at timestamp 1:00 in the 2016 video the male singer clearly forgot to put up his mike in time 😊
You would think that the audience close to the stage would hear the musicians and pre recording at the same time. and notice inconsistencies. Musicians would still have to play their instruments. Acoustic instruments can’t be muted like an electric guitar having its volume turned down on the amp.
They are playing live, but the recorded track is much louder played through the speakers so no one can head the orchestra. It's stupid as the orchestra members are very good musicians but it's done for the benefit of the "singers".
@@johnjones4129but the track is being played very loudly through the amplifier system in the theatre and I doubt the orchestra are bothering with much dynamic contrast as they know they can't be heard.
Just to give you a little context on this performance. This was Igor Krutoy‘s birthday (the composer and guy on the piano) and he invited his favorite singers to celebrate with him. But Lara had a high fever that day and was on medication. Maybe she couldn’t sing this, so they probably decided to use her previous performance for this. As you have seen yourself on your Dimash reaction of Know: He sang live on the same night. 🤷♀️ In Russia they also often force singers to lip synch - even if they don’t want to. So this was nothing new, that would derail the evening. It was Krutoy’s show and he was fine with it. But the pitch correction with these singers is a crime. 🙁
@@ChrisM541 The Russians do it all the time. And their audiences seem to know. Singers there rarely ever sing live. (Maybe in the opera… 🤷♀️) And singers like those on the stage have to fight to sing live. So it’s a win that some of the other performances were live. Also Aida is one of the best operatic sopranos, while Dimash is arguably the technically best singer in the world. And you have heard how good Lara is on that other performance. (Lara and Dimash are not even opera singers) They would absolutely be able to perform this live if it had been possible. But sometimes singers can’t, and this is one of those occasions! I think Igor on the piano also paid for his birthday (he is a billionaire). If this were about the audience being there just for this song, I might agree with you. But this is one of the many songs played plus the ice skating plus Igor‘s birthday. That’s what the people were celebrating. Igor wanted them to sing that song. And he wrote it for Lara, so they couldn’t leave her out even though she was sick. So this one time I really don’t fault them. 😅
@@ChrisM541well, forced or not, Lara Fabian has always said she considers herself being at the service of a song. She’s been in vocal-training her entire life to this day and is famous for loosing herself in her performances. It is believable that she was unable to properly serve the song that night. Full disclosure from the producers would have been the honest and decent thing to do but no everyone has the same work ethics and stratospheric standards Lara has.
It’s not just the Russians doing it though, Taylor Swift and other western artists and their “live” musicians are doing it too. And the orchestra here is using a backing track too. It’s far from just a “Russia” does it all the time situation.
I was thinking that there'd be some analysis on Dimash's vocals, but it was never really covered in this video. Hope we can get some analysis in the future
There were backstage footage of Dimash, Aida and Lara chatting on stage during rehearsals for that night . They are all wearing coats and talking to each other. Lara mentioned she was sick. Maybe because of that that is how they did this song. You reacted to Dimash singing “Know” from the exact same night and you said it was live. So, maybe they did this song like this because of Lara being sick. You should have reacted to Dimash and Aida singing Ulysse from the same night. There are lots of fam cams and also official video of that song. You will find out that one is live also.
@@sg-yq8pm Wings of Desire reacted to Dimash singing “Know” from the same event from that night and he said that song was live, so clearly the entire event was not “mimed” as Wings of Pegasus (this channel) himself proved it with that Dimash video a while back. Many thanks for exposing the fakery that is taking place now in the music business which we’d otherwise be largely unaware of. People have a right to know that they are not getting what they are paying for and too often are not experiencing genuine unadulterated live performance
I am a little bit relieved because I was sure you were going to say they pitched corrected a pitch corrected audio. Someday it will happen. Maybe has already.somebody wont be able to resist trying to make a song "just a little better". Thanks Fil. Another grade A+ analysis.
No problem🤣 . We know very well what Dimash is capable of and that he can not sing life all the time. On most of the TV appearences as well as on conferences or other events where he is performing I think it's not possible to sing life.
Nooooo come on, one of my favorite performances by the greatest. Dimash and Lara Fabian. They are real singers, no one can say they are fake. Perhaps they did this cause is a tv performance
I started out watching Tim Welsh's reactions to Ren (an independent UK artist), but I watch some of his other stuff now, so I saw his reaction to your video. Nice to see you follow up on this one. It's disappointing that this happens so much. I would love for you to listen to Ren (who was my introduction to Tim) and Chinchilla's song "How To Be Me (live)."
I enjoy your channel and I would like to get your opinion on performances from old music shows from the 1970's like TOTP's in the UK and the Midnight Special in the USA. With TOTP's pretty much all were lipsyned although I know there was a Live Bowie Jean Genie performance that surfaced about 10 years ago. Were there any others that you are aware of? I believe The Midnight Special was all live performances. Is this your belief as well? When I say live they were really live correct? or was there any post production in the 70's to clean things up, especially vocals. If I am not mistaken the Kiss Alive album was cleaned up post production? Was Frampton Comes Alive cleaned up? Any others? I guess my final question would be when did post production clean ups take off? It seems these days most if not all live performances are lipsyned so no post production is required. Nothing is real in the world anymore which is too bad.
If it was recorded before 1998, there wouldn’t be this type of manipulation. It didn’t exist. Tapes were sometimes sped up, and obvious effects like voice box (Frampton) were used, but not hidden. Vocals were often layered, but each take was real. You could hear the fullness of the layers (overdubs). Guitars had wah pedals. Still, it was all out in the open and discussed in music magazines.
I think you should react to more videos of lara, i am not denying that there has been pitch correction there but she is one of the very few nowadays that actually still sings live, her concerts are 100% live. Unfortunately when she is asked to perform on these russian festivals they ALWAYS put a playback, which is HORRIBLE. She has just release a new album and she sang a song called "je t'ai cherche" multiple time these last weeks and all of them are live, it would be nice if you could react to that. Also you could compare her singing some songs in the 2000s and now, for example there is a song called adagio that she has been singng for more than 20 years and it is a veru hard so and she still sings it live. It is kinda bad that the very first reaction you have of her is this crap they do on these festivals, she is a true singer, you should check for yourself.
Seriously, this is pure sensationalism. She’s an amazing and very professional singer. All her own concerts are live. Absolutely no tricks. I’m disgusted bc she’s being roasted here for a Russian TV show. Everyone knows there that practically all Krutoy’s televised shows are prerecorded. This is such an injustice to one of the best active female vocalists we have nowadays. What a world we’re living in…
@@raquelra5878How is it an injustice to point out that one of her performances was lip-synced? It was. Fil didn't say that all her performances are. He even pointed out that the original audio from 2016 was almost spot on without pitch correction.
@@SiriusBigbadda It’s awful what some people are saying on the comments section about a great artist, bc of a Russian TV common practice. Everyone there knows that Krutoy’s televised shows are prerecorded. Most people here are judging her personally for something that she has no fault at all. All her own concerts are live. Absolutely no tricks there. Here she was just a guest. So I just think it to be really irresponsible to pick such a performance and not clarifying the real circumstances in order to avoid harming someone’s integrity. He should pick any of her own live concerts and do an analysis… but I guess this wouldn’t give him such exposure. That’s the world we’re unfortunately living in nowadays. A world obsessed with pointing fingers…
But this isn't 'real' classical music but more sort of pop-classical/musical style that draws an audience and makes money. I can't see this happening with regular classical, especially not at a local level, which is where I usually see live music, but who knows... I really hope not!! I wouldn't think there is enough money in 'genuine' classical music to bother, and besides it can be a bit purist so hopefully it's reasonably safe!
Fil, just to clarify this is "Post Production Editing", not "Miming". This was from the same concert event that you reacted to the live fancam version a couple of years ago. The concert was live, but the video on his channel was taken from the 2 hour concert that aired on Rusdian TV (so it was edited afterwards).
@@AlanTov, Fil’s original analysis was a fan filmed performance. The “official” version appears to have been pitch adjusted for some guy named Igor’s ego. He probably had it done immediately after the performance.
Post production is pretty standard practice in Russian TV. Fil has analysed the cam version of this performance where the three sang live with zero auto tune. I think a lot of people jumping to the different conclusions in the comments section without knowing anything about Russian TV. This version is basically made as if an MV.
The pressure on performers to be perfect through a 2-3 hour concert while dancing, running around, doing acrobatics (Pink) is impossible. It's all done for us, the demanding pubic/fans. The bar has been set impossibly high these days.
Just pointing out the 2020 male is Dimash. The one people tout as all natural in his "performances". In contrast Stell of SB19 (Philippines) that has been compared in the past on the other hand has NO pitch correction, auto tune correction on his performances. Actually same with any Philippine artists (like Morrissette Amon) that was compared to Dimash.
I wish there would be a discussion as to WHY talented singers and orchestras and doing this. We know all these people can actually perform. So, why aren't they doing it? Can you look into that?
Orchestras only do it for the benefit of the singers, and they are hired to do it. It's a job they don't care they get paid a fee for it, but I expect if you spoke to them they'd all say they hate doing it. Instrumentalists prefer to perform live.
I can not speak to Igor’s practices but I do know that Lara was very unwell and highly medicated for this performance. I believe it was a one night affair so no opportunity to cut a clean performance. I can’t definitively state that this was the reason for the manipulation but it is perfectly plausible that she knew she was not going to be on her game. One of Lara’s trademarks is that she rarely sings a song the same twice in live performances.
Certainly not syrupy ersatz-classical kitsch. It never was. If these people could sing they would be on a stage performing Wagner or Verdi, with not one microphone, mixing desk and speaker in the whole hall.
Same for nearly all TV performances back then. Especially for R&R - sponsors were scared to death of offending language out of these bands. Sponsors dictate performance. They still do.
Agreed. A couple of differences being it seemed pretty obvious to me even as a kid (fade out endings, not all recorded instruments on stage, etc.) and the playback recording itself wasn’t computer corrected and enhanced (involves much more than just vocals nowadays).
I may be wrong, but since I used to watch a lot of Dimash clips in the past, I immediately recognized that pianist in the beginning of the clip, leading me to believe this performance is from Russia? I remember a lot of people mentioning that many Russian TV programs require or strongly encourage music performances to be playback. Often due to technical limitations, time constraints, or the desire for consistency in sound quality during live broadcasts. Seems to be the "default" on Russian televised performances? Not that this excuses anything, but it provides a bit of context I think. But perhaps somebody can verify where this concert is from, and maybe somebody who knows more about Russia and Russian TV can verify.
This was fascinating. Thanks to Tim for this request. We are now getting down to the nitty gritty of what is happening - or should I say being perpetrated upon the music lovers of the world - throughout the entirety of the current music industry. Ironically enough, perhaps, the industry has taken the use of pitch correction so far to the extreme as to make its use look wholly STUPIDE!!! that we may be close to the point where the pendulum starts to swing in the other direction, closer to live, raw and natural, vocals ... all thanks to Fil's analyses! There is hope, in other words...that one day in the not too distant future professionals involved in this all-important industry (especially given the crazy world in which we live) will once again return to the old-fashioned way of making music - listening to it with our ears instead of looking at it with our eyes. Imagine that!
He is only known to have mimed from 1992 on, but the DVD/CD of Three Tenors used a lot of archival tape left over from sessions in the 1970s, not for musical purposes so much as to screw over Carraras and Domingo due to Decca's ownership of the tapes.
One thing I don’t quite get is how, for example, the string players can mime to a backing track. Unless their bows are not touching the strings, surely some live sound will be evident although perhaps not discernible to an audience, the other orchestra members will hear it.
How about pitch correcting some blues guitarists for a change. Some of the more famous ones had an awful tendency to bend notes completely out of tune - imagine how much better they would sound tuned strictly to 440 Hz 😂
Lara is classically trained 10 years in the conservatory of music in Brussels and now she still follows singing lessons. It was only 6 weeks ago that I first listened to her music a live concert for an American channel in 1999 and then a live performance at Olympia in Paris 2003 and it was amazing. And now this.
Is it true what the comments above said? That she was unwell on the night of the 2020 performance so they used her vocal from 2016. I have no idea, I had not heard of her before this post.
In the meantime..the winner of BGT Sydnie Christmas is doing the rounds and singing actually live..it does still happen Fil. Just uploaded her latest performance..on BBC on my channel.... Merry Christmas Everyone- Sydnie Christmas ( yes, actually her name)
Seems unlikely, it's singers where there is pressure to do that. I don't think there's any point pitch correcting an acoustic instrumental, it would be a waste of money. If it's out of tune, or has bad notes, you'd just record it again or pay someone else to play it correctly.
@@Rik77 Give it a couple of years, and an AI based filter will guess what notes were intended based on a knowledge of all of music in history, pitch correct accordingly, even out the tempo and add some randomness to cover its tracks. One click soulless perfection for a dollar?

Never by me! Plenty of us out there. We aren't always as famous but we are out there.
@@Rik77 It is truly awful and soul-sucking to play. But orchestras program music like this because it helps to pay the bills.
I've been a professional musician for over thirty five years and I think playing with tracks really sucks. If you need tracks just quit..
Yes, Dimash and Lara Fabian are not opera singers, they cannot sing without microphones. They are all popera singers, in these two performances except for Hvorostovsky and Garifullina. And honestly both of them are not really the best of opera singers either.
Wow, that really sucks.

The thing is, neither of them have to lip sync. They are both extraordinary.
I've been to hundreds of concerts in my life (classical, jazz, contemporary, soul, rock) and I've always come out with a smile and easily forgiven any performance mistake if it ever happened. It doesn't seem to me now that people go to these concerts to really hear music or singing. There's a video on the internet where you can see the three of them meeting a day before, with Lara wearing a scarf to protect her throat. All three normally perform live. Bit nasty of Fil to pick the outlier.
@@arturama8581 I believe this as well. But we still need confirmation. 😅
Thank you Fil. Very interesting analysis. You're really good at explaining this stuff. You're a great educator.
Keep calling it out wherever you see it Fil. Fighting the good fight (when very few others dare).
Dimash is one of the best "lip syncers" in the business.
@jayeginn5963 The few recordings of Across Endless Dimensions are always the same background orchestra, and his part is exactly the same.
I was a teen in the 80s. There was a commercial, " Is it Live, or is it Memorex?" Who knew that it would all be Memorex 40 years later. I'm so glad I saw live bands BEFORE, this mess.
I miss Memorex. At least with tapes, some egomaniac can’t ruin the music with a plugin.
Great update as always Fil

Why is it that so many commenters equate a natural unedited by pitch correction voice with having "flaws"?
My gosh, unbelievable! This is as sad as it can get! Even classical music! Now I have heard it all! Thanks, Fil, for this eye-opener!
@@brovold72 ,
They often do play the track. Their presence is paid for by the advert people. They want big stars to get the home audience to watch the adverts in between performances. I certainly wouldn’t expect anything live at an American football game. The live audience is there for the game, not Mariah Carey singing the sodding anthem.
As a long time musician, this is old news.
Yes. And Celine Dion wasn’t singing live then either (or in Paris of course)
Ren is fantastic ❤
This is a very interesting analysis. You just affirmed what I suspected myself back when I watched the 2016 video. I doubt the part by Fabian was live then just like the others there are likely playback. About classical singers lip syncing - well it was done on tv shows since the 70s. Not always, but it happened a lot. Btw, I was expecting a classical performance, but this is a temporary popsong written by the guy at the piano, Igor Krutoy. There was also not much classical singing going on, but in the ene what counts is the shady way music is maltreated today. Thanks for the presentation. Greetings from Germany

Igor Krutoy, and Russia, are well known for doing this. Neither Dimash nor Lara Fabian need to mime as they are fantastic live. Many videos of both on TH-cam singing live, particularly Lara.

The musicians are just the pawns in this game. They have no influence on what is done by promoters and post-production.
I keep wondering if part of the reason Dimash stopped working with Krutoy was that he was forced to mime there (besides the war, of course).

Exactly
100% minus this one.
Invaluable work, Fil. Absolutely invaluable.
@ Me neither. People should go look at her own concerts, which are 100% live.

Lara Fabian was fifty in 2020, but her voice sounds an awful lot younger. I still can't get over the fact that Mariah Carey is using a backing track at her 'live' performances with her voice as it was twenty years ago!
I see no reason to pay to see artists lip syncing. A video is all I need now.

This is the first time, though, I need to correct you. The probability of the 2016 version being live is low. Why would they use this particular recording as the basis for the later one? In all probability both were built from a controlled non live recording, the difference being that they are now also pitch correcting, for an amazingly accurate singer.

Wouldn't want to lose that.
A big part of singing is finding your style and just channeling the right emotion that the song demands.
And as my vocal coach says "sometimes you just need ego"
Performing live especially, you need to just give a middle finger to peoples judgement and SING.
@@irenevassileva5586 Even in his concerts, about 20% of his songs are playback. But that leave 80% of live singing!
@@mmsminimalmusic3110 Exactly. And when you take in mind that his concerts last three, three and a half hours, his songs are very demanding and he is a solo artist and not a band, you can see the toll on his vocal chords😊
It will not stop me listening to them
These videos always analyze the vocals from a specific performance, not on their other performances or whether they are good singers or not. You may have misunderstood the point of Fil's analyses by request.🙂
Nobody here says that you can't
If you like your artists lip sinking to an auto tuned track, that’s entirely on you and your tastes in entertainment. No one, especially Fil is telling you to do any different, you do you!
@augustsnowfall5189 i will and I like fil's channel
@augustsnowfall5189 lip singing not sinking
I saw an analysis you did on Doris Day and I was impressed you were so non-judgmental and could actually recognise her talent 🎉🎉 thank you
I believe everything was lip-synced.
What 2016 recording are you referring to.
Renee Fleming is pretty handy with a microphone, but she also started out as a jazz singer who didn't intensely study operatic techniques until grad school. iirc te Kanawa also started out in nightclubs.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee there are exceptions but it is not a primary skill for opera singers to handle a handheld microphone
And at timestamp 1:00 in the 2016 video the male singer clearly forgot to put up his mike in time 😊
@@user-vl6ke7cx3r the 2016 recording mentioned in the video of Fil and that is linked in the description
How does an orchestra mime? It’s must be hilarious at rehearsal
they still play the song. It gets muted or turned down at the mixer. 😂
I think they turn off the mics, just like with singers miming. Sad really...
In Russia they also often force singers to lip synch - even if they don’t want to. So this was nothing new, that would derail the evening. It was Krutoy’s show and he was fine with it.
But the pitch correction with these singers is a crime. 🙁
Also did you compare fancams? What about the other two?
That is no excuse. You do not, EVER subject an audience with miming......ESPECIALLY for this type of music. No excuse !!!
(Lara and Dimash are not even opera singers)
They would absolutely be able to perform this live if it had been possible.
It makes no difference whether she was sick, it's dishonest and and a deliberate attempt to deceive.
@@sg-yq8pm Wings of Desire reacted to Dimash singing “Know” from the same event from that night and he said that song was live, so clearly the entire event was not “mimed” as Wings of Pegasus (this channel) himself proved it with that Dimash video a while back. Fil just said that the video he previously did of the Dimash performance was not this performance. It was from 2016.
You made 16 comments (and I’m guilty of parroting you a few times) saying that it’s the same performance. It isn’t.
Ugh, this is a lesson learned the hard way. Henceforth, I’ll only believe my own research, not some comment.

@@SuziQ. Suzy, I think YOU are confused. The video I am talking about is Fil reacting to this event in 2019 of Dimash stinging the song KNOW. Dimash never sang KMOW in 2016. That is a Russia male opera singer.. I am not talking about THIS song. I am talking about the song called “Know” which Dimash sang in this same event that eh sand Ti Amo Cosi with Lara and Aida. I hope it is clear for you now.
First you raise the ire of Swifties, now Dimash fans…..you are playing with fire my friend. Stay safe Fil! 😂🤘🏻
Broadcast Russian and Chinese performances are all modified, as a rule.

Yeah guys, the Classical scene has been doing this as well for quite awhile
That makes no sense. It was a pitch corrected version of a vocal performance from years ago.
@@AlanTov Editing the video to match a pre-recorded audio is pretty routine.
@@AlanTov,
Fil’s original analysis was a fan filmed performance.
@k.vn.k Exactly. This is the same concert Fil analyzed the LIVE fancam from 2 years ago. The pitch correction, etc are done after for TV.
The pressure on performers to be perfect through a 2-3 hour concert while dancing, running around, doing acrobatics (Pink) is impossible. It's all done for us, the demanding pubic/fans. The bar has been set impossibly high these days.
Pink is live without editing tho. Fil has done at least one vid on her.
In this case, it’s a Russian TV common practice. Practically all Krutoy’s televised shows are prerecorded. It’s a fact very well-known there.
Nothing is sacred anymore.
Certainly not syrupy ersatz-classical kitsch. It never was. If these people could sing they would be on a stage performing Wagner or Verdi, with not one microphone, mixing desk and speaker in the whole hall.
It's russian TV, they always lip synch eveyything.
Another fab analysis and call-out for fraud. Well done, Fil.
Been noticing this all my life. Whatever you do, don't go back and watch American Bandstand "performances." Most, if not almost all , were lip synced.
The only difference is that everyone, even then, knew that.
@@richardpatrick2852 Exactly ...the fakery today is carried out on a far more sophisticated level and in many instances is bordering on fraud
Yes it was in Russia. November 2019 at VTB Dynamo ice arena in Moscow.
Yes it‘s true, nothing is live on concerts on Russian Tv, even if the singers would like to sing live
Why pitch correct a voice so good as that?
I can comprehend correcting my singing but when you are as good as she is?
Imagine that!
makes u wonder if pavarotti mimed his Nessun Dorma in 1990
He is only known to have mimed from 1992 on, but the DVD/CD of Three Tenors used a lot of archival tape left over from sessions in the 1970s, not for musical purposes so much as to screw over Carraras and Domingo due to Decca's ownership of the tapes.
