    I work on a seaweed farm halfway between Ireland and Scotland, this is what i listen to on my headphones before heading out to sea for the latest "Weed Heist", then our crew pretend we're smuggling it back to mainland Ireland before swapping the proceeds down the market for some much needed contraband back on the island.

      Japan went in hard on the idea of 'jazz rock' in the late 60s early 70s and they had absurdly prolific artists like Akira Ishikawa and other jazz drummers evolving that sound all through the 70s. Instrumental covers of all the latest American soul/funk etc tunes were a constant thing. Japanese record companies also bought up American companies, and they suddenly had access to making records with all the top US session musicians of the 70s. There are a lot of late 70s albums by Japanese artists where all the musicians are American session legends. Bass player Chuck Rainey has said he's been to Japan every year since 1972 or something!

      Japanese music in the 70s and 80s is mint. It is such a cool spin on Western Funk and Jazz. They dove really heavy into Bebop as well and turned out some of the greatest outfits in the genre, if not the greatest and the very least the most under appreciated (at least in the west)

    "What once was funk" (from 25:28) is 池玲子 Reiko Ike 's cover version of 天使になれない Tenshi ni Narenai. The original is from 和田アキ子 Akiko Wada (single released June 1971, the cover is from the same year).
    EDIT: Noticed later way down that this was already mentioned. I'll still leave it here, as those comments don't include the Japanese writing (and someone might want to look those up).

    Great... now I'm sitting at my office desk, listening to this awesome piece of music and I want to watch old 70's movies with my grandma again. Just like in the past when I visited her and stayed there for a weekend. We would make some nice food and watch those movies way past my bedtime up until 2 o'clock in the morning (I was 8 or 9 :D ).
    My grandfather was already dead, she only had us left and she always was like a second mother to me. Glad I told her that before I lost her in 2006...
    Those 70's movie's have a special place in my heart. Can't remember them, but I know there was a lot with Charles Bronson in them... Many others too...
    Simple times back then... Thank you, haven't had those memories in a long time. Made me smile whilst at my boring job!

    • @DemonWarp65
      @DemonWarp65 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@jedimindtrix2142 How about the way he edited the tracks together so they were seamless? The audio quality of the tracks themselves? The way the arrangement of the different tracks evoked different emotions so it was like the audio of a cool, hip, 70s Yakuza film? Does @Tripmaster not deserve to be signed with a label as an editor or producer? Does he not deserve to work behind the scenes to help musicians to create the music that makes people's emotions start pumping? Does Tripmaster not deserve some kind of recognition for his editing talent? When you can come up with a killer mix of songs like this, then you can give people grief for showing appreciation for the OP's editing skills all you want. Until then, why don't you come up with another playlist of UFO conspiracies and let us enjoy in peace.

      @@DemonWarp65 first of all I apologize for my snarky tone. I must not have been in the greatest mood at the time Inwrote that. I am a producer though and I just opened my new studio up! It's been an exciting year. I have Been producing and mixing/mastering music since 2010 and playing music in general since I was roughly 12...I'm 35 now. DJing is a skill, sure. However let's not get ahead of ourselves here. It's certainly a nice mix but it's nothing so special that he would get signed with any label for it. If he produces music and he makes his own that's how you succeed in the music world. Any big successful "DJ" you see is producing his own music as well as maybe mixing other tracks in here and there. Pretty Lights, Tiesto, Infected Mushroom, Shpongle, Bass Nectar, Avicci(rip), etc. You can certainly make a living DJing using others music that's for sure. The days of labels are certainly not gone but they are no where near as all powerful as before. The big and old established ones are either gone or they only deal with the largest of artists in the mainstream music world. Stuff like what you would here on a modern pop or country station. Other than that, there are smaller labels still, mostly ran.bu artists as well. The majority of modern day bands and or solo artists record, manage and market their own music as well as deal with their own merchandise, etc. The internet and modern recording techniques and technology has revolutionized being a recording artist in so many ways. No longer are you hemmed in by if some big wig executives things your sound is mass marketable. People can be famous and yet unknown at the same time. Tons of artists with millions and millions of views, and packed shows when they travel to play, yet if I asked most people on the street if they have heard of a lot of these artists a lot of people would say no. But back to the main point here, signing someone for mixing others music together presents huge issue. All the artists whose music he or she uses will certainly want a check cut for the use of the material as well as the production people who recorded and produced it, if their contract is structured in that manor. Again sorry for the snarky tone to begin with. UFOs are very much a thing man....lol.👽💯 All joking aside watch a video called Mark McCandlish and the strory of the fluxliner. The guy who made the video and mark himself are both dead. Mark died of a supposed suicide gun shot. The video details the first US built copy of the craft we see zipping around. Look the fluxlinner up on Google images and you can see the blue prints this Mark guy drew up. It was his job to draw concept art for various parts of the DoD and defense companies in the day before everything went to computer art. He did some popular mechanics cover art as well. He was an amazing an accomplished dude who started talking too much. Crazy shit. Definitely worth a watch.

      Culture Candle If you really understood the theory of music, in composition, then the idea of plagiarism is non existent, as every song ever written has piggy-backed off of something else since the first recorded song in history.

    • @bluetooth5562
      @bluetooth5562 6 ปีที่แล้ว +88

      "If plagiarism isn't a thing why are there so many accounts of copyright infringement suits being filed for lyrical, melody, and chorus similarities?"
      *Because of plagiarism laws created by the birth of the music industry, because too many people were claiming to own specific melodies/choruses/lyrics. Plagiarism exists in a space where you expect compensation for your achievement, even if your contribution is not 100% your own*
      "Also if there weren't laws in place for musical compositions to be protected by copyright, it'd fucking suck to be a musician."
      *That is a subjective opinion. Not every musician on this planet wants to be compensated for making something. In fact, before industry and laws, most made their craft with little intention of receiving thousands of dollars, but just to have other people hear their work. Industry has changed that, for better or worse*
      "I'm not saying you can't be inspired or that fair use doesn't exist, I'm just saying music isn't an exception when it comes to being protected by copyright under law."
      *This I can agree with, partially. It depends on your stance as a musician. If I want to make the Top Billboard 100 by tomorrow morning, yeah i'm going to need those laws from being screwed by another artist, but if I compose for the sake of composing (because there are people out there like this), not concerned about where my music ends up, would copyright really matter to me?*
      "I called it plagiarism as a snide remark because anyone can warp a sample and put a drum machine on top of it."
      *I get the snide remark, because there are artists out there that do exactly what you say, but what you have to understand is that is the nature of music, specifically lo-fi hip hop. What you may call "lazy production", someone else may call "experimental", and that's how new genres take root. And believe it or not, not everyone knows how to warp a sample and throw a drum machine on a track. Few barely know how to turn a drum machine on, can't assume.*
