    I remember us fetching that convertible from the rental station in Albuquerque, putting down the top and instantly starting to play Bohemian Rhapsody in an infinite loop until we hit the Las Vegas city limits.
    Planned to listen to A Horse With No Name and many other American stuff, but hey... once you've started to listen to QUEEN one just cannot stop, right? 😍

    Freddie Mercury had such faith in how Queen worked, Talking about each member in a very personal way- Brian could ( or was expected ) to know how to play anything! He was especailly proud to let people know-Each song is done by us. No special effects. Just the band doing all harmonies, all music and Our way of changing things.If we did it just to make a hit single, we would all get lax, and be just like any other band- And Queen is not just any other band. ~ FM~

    Why would anyone waste time wondering what this song is about? It's all there in the words. The murder, the despair, the insanity, acceptance. It's as natural as "Row, row, row your boat," They couldn't make another just like it. No one can put anything on it that will stick apart from what's already in the words and music. Inevitability. That's what makes it a masterpiece.

    I disagree with the final comments of the last man. I don't think that the meaning behind Bohemian Rhapsody is Freddie's homosexuality. Not everything he did was to be able to talk about it, he did have a private life which he enjoyed A LOT so I don't think he was THAT constricted at that time.
    I really hope people would stop mixing all the aspects of his life and personality to just one of his many facets.

    • @TheStockwell
      @TheStockwell 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      People want to read meaning into everything! Sometimes, a great song is just that - a great song. People want every Queen song to have secret, mysterious references. I've read about gay references in songs written by Brian May and John Deacon! Mercury didn't write all their songs, so it's always fun to point out people have discovered "hidden gayness" in songs written by members of the band who were straight and married.
      I think all this secret meaning stuff started in the 60s, when drug references were written into songs and people decided Paul McCartney was dead and replaced by a fake Paul.
      A friend of mine gets really mad when people ask her about Paul being dead and The Beatles - for no reason - covering it up by planting a billion clues in their songs and album artwork. She had a nice response, "No. Paul's alive. Which hurts because it means he actually wrote "Silly Love Songs."

    • @klgovalpo

    • @TheStockwell
      @TheStockwell 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      klgovalpo
      Agreed. Here we are over 40 years later, still talking about the song - and listening to it. How many bands still sound fresh after that much time? The Doors are timeless - they don't have that swirly, twirly, psychedelic sound that dates them as a 60s band, the way The Beatles - great as they are - sound VERY 1960s.
      The thing is, Queen jumped on just about every trend there was ("Hot Space," anyone?) and still sound better than a few hundred bands that WERE big in 70s and the early 80s - and aren't anymore.
      And you watch their live performances and you see what a band can sound like if they stay together, year after year, and keep performing live instead - of retreating into the studio to create sonic masterpieces that can never be performed live.
      The best song ever written? One of the VERY best, anyway - I don't want to get into a fight with fans of "Stairway to Heaven," "Purple Haze," or "Born to Run"!

      It's a fantastic song, one of my all time favourites and it holds a personal meaning to myself and a variety of other listeners. I think it's just a well constructed work of musical art that is open to various interpretations. Freddie Mercury was quoted as saying that the song is about relationships, that's all he ever said about it and that's all we'll ever know. Part of the song's legacy is that nobody truly knows what it means and we never will.

  • @davep8221
    @davep8221 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the song is about Freddy being fed up with pretending to be something he wasn't.
    The man killed is the Freddy who was not OK with being gay, who was pretending to be something he wasn't. Someone he didn't like and who didn't like him.
    The conflict in the song isn't about the killing, it's about what was left, the finally free Freddy and all the shit he knew would be coming down on him.
    All the judgement and condemnation.
    And he said fuck it, this is me. What you think doesn't really matter.
    Freddy is dead. Long live Freddy!
    Sadly, he didn't live long enough, but he lived as he wanted to.

    So I've just got to wonder, after working with Freddie so closely and for so many years, why didn't they ask him what BoRap was about? Or maybe they were sworn to never tell???

    • @Paulitica
      @Paulitica 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The only people that knew, know or could know the actual meaning are: Kenny Everett, Mary Austin, Brian May, Roger Taylor, Jer Bulsara and Kashmire Cooke.

    • @Geographus666
      @Geographus666 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +lovethemills In an interview Freddie once said that he hates nothing more than analyzing his own songs and when people ask him what BoRap is about he always said "I don't know!".
      Roger said, that people tend to interpret to much into BoRap. BoRap started of as a relatively short song and just grew and grew and grew, so the initial idea that Freddie had writing BoRap is only a small part of what the song finally became, and because of its size people tend to belive it is about MUCH more than it actually is.

    Also people stop lying Freddie said many interviews that song really has no meaning sometimes if you’ve ever taken lessons writing A song if something sounds good with words even if it doesn’t always make sense to put it together so when they asked he said that interview’s you were studying at the time so people try to be more of it really doesn’t have a meaning .later in life songs did.but bohemian rhapsody is not something that was intended for reason just writing shi^ sounds good and you use it, god he’s admitted it long time ago!
