If you don't get goosebumps from this - you may need to ask yourself AM I DEAD?
Brilliant Work!
Visualizing the entire vocal harmonies and all the guitar solos and other layers in such a complex song like this is insane. Freddie was a genius and his songwriting skills are heavily underrated.
I love how Brian May admits all the faults and defects in this magnificent piece. Musicians who are both fantastic and humble ! That's the key to Queen's greatness. They were both tacky and epic, deep and funny, classical and experimental.
Brian is so modest. The first solo is a masterpiece.
i respect this man so much !
What a great gift. Like witnessing michelangelo painting, like seeing Leonardo constructing, like sitting in the capsule and watch Armstrong do a small step for a man. For me, this video is not only a making of but also a witness the genesis of one of THE masterpieces of mankind's art. Magnifico-o-o-o!
I love how Brian May is so at peace with himself and with his bandmates and is so humble, praising the others and not mentioning himself.
you gotta love Brian
Haha, Devil Put aside for meeeeee...etc. 5:49
Gotta love Brian
Listening to Brian May talking about Freddie and sounding so emotional. I half expected him to burst into tears.
beautiful.. Brian May disecting the mighty "Bohemian Rhapsody".. pure class
Such a fascinating look into the intimate genius that was Queen at their pinnacle. Thank you Brian, for these precious insights.
Unbelievable! Really unbelievable! Brian May spoke so relaxed, and he was talking about the best song ever!
every single second of this song is so complex and complicated...unbelievable how some individuals can be as magically creative and talented, to make such a wonderful piece of music out of nothing...speechless
queen was, is, and will always be an inspiration!!!! freddie was unreal!
One day, my ex wife and I listened to "A Night at the Opera" form beginning to end. After the last notes of God Save the Queen faded away, we looked at each other and she said "I wonder if they knew what a masterpiece they created?"
BRIAN eres tal lindo , cálido y muy linda persona ..esa manera de hablar tan dulce .. gracias por seguir dando guerra junto con ROGER en los escenarios bendiciones ..salud y bienestar 😘😘💋❤️
I think the stars have to be lined together for a band like Queen to form. It's typical only 1 or 2 people are known and project a band well enough for them to become popular. However, with Queen, it is all 4 of the lads. They all took a slice from the cake and had something to offer on the table. I think Queen were straightforward and progressed amazingly.
Wow, what a joy this was.
Magic. Seeing and hearing how this iconic, legendary piece of music history was not only made but conceptualized is just magic. All the little over dubs coming together with a grand flourish. Just incredible. And Freddie. What a guy. To come up with that in your head and then have the talent to make it into reality is a rare gift. RIP.
musica de otro mundo...exelennnte mil veces. genios mas nunca escucharemos algo asi.
Singing a song like this is one thing. Creating a monumental song like this is beyond me. This song just came about out of the blue and nothing sounded like it before and after.
A Masterpiece. Nobody will ever get close to writing music with such perfection.
Great back story of Bohemian Rhapsody and wonderful genius of Freddie. Thank you for leaving us your musical legacy.
a band of legend , where all members where involved , perhaps one of the greatest band in rock , when they were singing all together choirs were fabulous ( Roger Taylor so great drummer / singer ) . Fan of them and my favorite band since i saw them first in Paris , 1979 :-)
Robert Andretta
How lucky that you got to see them in person. They were all talented. It is amazing that Brian and Roger are still out there playing. I believe they are carrying on their music for new generations to love and appreciate.
Rare to see such a humble man in the world of rock these days. May genuinely gives credit where credit is due.
Incredible, natural human talent. No computers or "auto tune" to be found then. Yet these men created masterpieces regardless. I mean just listen to the raw passion in Freddys vocals. Chills! His precise piano playing right in the pocket. The way each musician is locked into one another...by LISTENING..playing live to tape! complimenting one another in sound. True visionary musical artistry the likes we don't get any more. WTF happened?
Brian May---Class act---Super Talent
The genius of Queen at work.
Made In Network aren’t y’all a media company
Freddie is a fantastic piano player....
Great documentary on how it got done. Brian May is a great analyst of just what went down, and when and how. Thanks for the posting.
What a humble man. Soft, articulate pretty much giving credit to everyone while he dissects one of the great pieces of music the world has ever known. Where have men like this gone?
This is REAL music!!!
There's no such thing as "fake" music. If you honestly believe any one genre is superior to another, I think you need to take a step back and rethink things.
Of course there's a such thing as fake music! Artists these days don't actually have to be good at what they do, because they hide behind their precious auto tune.
Plus the fact that most of them are idiots and neglect to receive any education whatsoever.
Back in the day of Queen, musicians actually used real instruments, had real talents, and actually had an idea of what they were talking about.
@@TheSaxAppeal ok lol calm down
@@TheSaxAppeal Honey, let me tell u a secret. Music was always fake. They edit takes on the tape machine, overdub things. Put a shift pedal from the guitar in vocals, put effects a lot to hide the faults and defects.
@@TheSaxAppeal And also, Synths are not real instruments and they used it a lot
just pure, raw talent
Its so amazing how we get to hear this as if it was just tracked. No EQ, compression, effects or any processing. It sounds so ordinary without any of the talent of a mixing and mastering engineer... To all you people who have no clue what the dynamics of making a record is, this is what ALL songs sound like in the begining phases, plain and ordinary. Next time you enjoy the sonics of your favorite song, thank the mixing and mastering engineer but this era or recording housed real talent, to make a record!
Not to discredit these guys at all, but it's very common of engineers to EQ or compress a signal before it even hits tape for the first time. The wall of vocals when they show Freddie's part has compression and EQ on it. I agree though, people don't appreciate the hard work that goes into recording. These guys were geniuses.
thejohnofsteel The EQ and compression that you are referring to isnt what you think it is. Its very sublte and very minute. Its only there to control the absolute peaks and slight nuances of vocals. The reason is that mics in general respond differently to different singers so slight tweaking is needed but not so much to significantly change the voice. Remember once you record it that way its difficult to undo it (its like trying to take water out of clay). But I do agree wtih you...
pbee73 That's precisely what I think it is. I am an an engineer. The compression ratio may not be as subtle as you think. This IS rock and roll and while it may not be smashed like the music of today, it is definitely compressed.
Inoubiable pour toujours 😢
This does a good job in illustrating the complex and intricate little parts that went into making this grand masterpiece that we know today...or yesterday for that matter.
We've all heard the final product many, many times so it becomes easy to take for granted the enormity of the construction of this magnificent piece of music.
That was a fascinating breakdown of Freddie Mercury's finest hour as a songwriter/creator of art.
Oh wow , just listening to Freddie playing the piano alone ... I can imagine him there playing . It's hard to believe he's gone . Such an artist ... they all were . It must be hard for Brian too . This is very special . Thanks so much for posting this
Ok, after watching this, now i can definitely quit playing music...lol !
I can't really wrap my mind around how complex this song is!!! These guys were musical geniuses!!!
SIN DUDA LA OBRA MAESTRA DE LA MUSICA OPERA ROCK, DE LOS GENIOS UNIVERSALES QUEEN, QUE SE ESCUCHARA PARA SIEMPRE DIOS SALVE A LA REYNA QUEEN
I wonder how the guy next to Brian can stay so very calm, he doesn't really seem to be excited, even though BRIAN is sitting next to him talking about Bohemian Rhapsody, listening to very interesting elements of the song! Thanks for uploading this, it's unbelievably awesome!
Freddy mercury is awesome!
Oh mama mia! This is just wonderful.
damn, this is just genius!
Truly a masterpiece.
i would have killed to get my hands on those raw recordings
***** I want it!! :D
can i have it too? *****
***** Can I still have it also? :)
***** Ahhh! Where'd you get them? Would you mind sending them to me?
*****
Would be very awesome if I could also get a copy of this, thank you!
Queen forever !
Bravo Brian, such a good musician
Freddy you are the best.
Freddie Mercury worked in mysterious ways...
2019 anyone
⬇️
His vocal harmony's are flawless!! amazing man!
It's awkward to watch how awkward the guy next to Brian is.
what's actually wrong with the people who dislike this?
Thank you Freddie, Roger, Brian and John for the beatyfull time! QUEEN FOREVER! What an amazing song!
thats some old electronics there
I've gained a whole new respect for this song. My goodness, so much work went into this and it sounds amazing in all the tracks
They should record on water. The purest medium.
RIP Freddie... Mr. May, you, sir, are a legend. Nothing but respect for you!
Is that Brian's own home studio? Can anyone guess how many tracks roughly would be on that master?
The 2 inch tapes were generally 24 Tracks.
Freddie's vocal Multi tracking was GENIUS for the time. Such an inspirational video for new age producers!
The engineer seems pissed.
Pissed in the British way or the American way? XD
both.
Every growing musician and sound engineer should watch this. A very valuable lesson.
Looks like 40 people here prefer the Justin Beiber type of music instead of this. Freddie Mercury is the master
Because JB is way better, duh
That better be sarcasm ^ to hell with jb. He can kiss my ass👐
Just because they dislike it doesn't mean they like Justin Bieber
Absolutely brilliant!!!!
The engineer is the most miserable looking bugger I think I've ever seen. At 4:43 he turns to Brian as if to say 'Oh, STFU!!''.
It's not just a case of him being 'silent'. His body language indicates explicitly that he is not a happy man.
Brian is such a gentleman.
What's the board operators problem? He looks pissed
Musician touching his desk most likely -_-
if it is bbc studio i would guess hangover :)
I think they don't make music like this these days anymore. Outstanding, really!
"The Beatles were our bible" :D
I would quite happily just listen to Freddie's piano take all the way through, it is truly beautiful music!
I've always wanted to know how they composed this masterpiece. Thanks for dissecting it for us Dr. Brian May. That was an honor. 💓💓
This should be required viewing for anyone even thinking about how to make a song in a studio. and especially everybody now who can just nip, tuck and tweak digitally, rather than actually rely on good ears/ musicianship and intelligent, skilled studio technique. What a delightful chap Brain May is and such a gentle, informative and generous colleague.
this a music masterclass
The "cascade" of harmonies is amazing.
Brian is a class act for sure, and it is both heartwarming and heartbreaking hearing him talk so fondly and respectfully of Freddie's musicality and how they worked together.
If this isn't the most amazing song ever written, I don't know what is. This man had this whole song in his head and let it out for the world.
Everything about this song is amazing...
what a masterpiece !!!
To hear Freddie playing the piano in such detail. I love it!!! Neat to see how one of Rocks greats was created!
what a masterpiece
I actually cried:) ... I'm so glad we at least have these videos about Freddie..
What craftsmanship, the whole process is just engrossing, and just watching Master May at work is very very inspiring.
one of the greatest song ever
THE BEST SONG OF ALL TIMES!!!!!!
Man, this is such a great treat! For any music fan but esp. for a Queen fan. TY Brian May!
Pure Genius.
I'm glad you pointed that out. Everytime I see Brian talk about Freddy, it breaks my heart a little.
Just Freddie's piano makes the song by itself. Fantastic. These were another Fab 4 :) RIP Freddie.
Extraordinary Band!
Queen Forever!
Just so amazing!!!
What an incredible thing that must have been, to have been a part of. You can still see the excitement Brian feels even decades after.
What a brilliant composition. Think back to the 70s. Who else would do something like this? Freddie could do anything. Brian May also is great
MASTERPIECE
Amazing...Brian gives us a view into the very detailed genius of Freddie Mercury for writing this intricate and starkly original masterpiece. Queen were the "next Beatles." Who's the next Queen?
to construct something like this and have it all make sense is an incredible achievement. the more i learn about this song, the more i am in awe of it.
Gosh I miss Freddie :'( Such genius and not to forget Sir Brian May :)
Queen was and remains one of the best bands and show men of all times. Their music is timeless and before their time. You keep mentioning old technology being used. Back then it was the most advanced technology at that time. I must admit that when I heard that Piano solo it gave me chills imagining Freddy playing and thinking what he was thinking at that moment. Just amazing. Thank you for such great performances. Rest in Peace Freddy your music for ever for generations to come.
