Bakura beating Joey and Pegasus would help greatly in establishing him as a major threat. They kinda failed in doing that cuz he lost most of his duels.
Funny enough, The Sacred Cards has Kaiba duel both Mai and Yami Marik. It’s a quick summon and attack for a game that didn’t have that many rules to follow, but the concept was there.
In the story for the Sacred cards on the GBA, Mai and Kaiba did duel, where he took out her Harpie with Blue eyes and I've always been curious to see how a duel between them would go. Glad to see that on the list.
A couple thoughts 1) I'd love for Grandpa vs Atem to take place in a flashback when Grandpa found the Millennium Puzzle, as a way for Atem to test Grandpa Moto. Probably have Atem win, but Grandpa proves himself worthy of taking the puzzle home with him. However the loss is why he could never complete it himself. 2) Personally, I'd place Marik vs Ishizu somewhere before Marik vs Mai (which I know gets in the way of Kaiba vs Ishizu, so that would have to be solved) in order for Ishizu to act as a duel spirit for Mai in the match against Marik.

Seto Kaiba vs Bandit Keith: Keith is leading the Neo Ghouls and is running an operation stealing a shipment of Kaiba Corp hardware. Seto spearheads a counter-op to cease the thefts and Keith sets up a trap holding Mokuba hostage and challenging Seto to a duel to buy his crew time to escape with the merchandise. Seto duels and steamrolls Keith, but Keith evades capture and tries to rendezvous with the other ghouls only to find they were caught by Kaiba Corp merc's. Keith gets caught and arrested by the merc's as well
Some other suggestions Tea vs Rebecca: A battle for Yugi’s heart. Kaiba vs Rebecca: At one point in the game Reshef of Destruction, Rebecca actually does challenge Kaiba to a duel over him ripping up Grandpa’s Blue Eyes White Dragon. That’s a good idea. Tristan vs Devlin: These two fought so much it’s suprising they never dueled at all. Serenity vs Mokuba: Two younger siblings of major characters who barely have any experience in dueling. And those two older siblings hate each other and will probably be backseat dueling the whole time.
In no particular order: -Mai vs Bandith Keith (to see who's third place on Duelist Kingdome - Ishizu vs Odion (a duel between Marik's siblings) - Pegasus vs Marik (a duel between Duel Monster's arc villains) -Joey vs Rebecca (i just wanna see Joey wipe out that cocky girl) -Zigfried vs Leon (it would be interesting to see how the Grand Championship final would had been, if Kaiba didn't interrupted it. Even thought, i'm sure Zigfriend would had win easley)
My personal suggestions: - Tristan vs Duke - Yes, we know Tristan isn't a duelist, but he DOES collect cards from time to time, and he himself lists Cyber Commander as his favorite. Perhaps he could have run a Cyber-theme deck (pre-GX, of course), and in this case, he and Duke would duel over Serenity (and they DID have a physical fight on top of Kaiba's blimp). - Tristan vs Bakura - Tristan has foiled Bakura's plans at least once, during Duelist Kingdom, and Bakura used him as a puppet during the Memory World arc. Plus, it would give Tristan some much-needed dueling screentime (though he'd likely lose). - Ishizu vs Mai - The only two female duelists during the Battle City finals, getting a chance to throw down? Why not? - Marik vs Pegasus - Marik, during his time leading the Rare Hunters, would have been searching for the Egyptian God Cards. He would have known Pegasus was the creator of the cards. Why WOULDN'T he have gone to Pegasus to confront him about where the cards were? This would likely fit in best prior to the Battle City tournament; which one of them would have won would be up in the air. - Yugi vs Gozaburo - Yes, yes, Gozaburo has far more personal history with Kaiba than he could ever have with Yugi, but hey - Gozaburo used Exodia Necross! And we know Yugi's grandpa used the original Exodia. That would throw in a bit of a personal element for Yugi right there. - Tea vs Kaiba - Tea may not be an EXPERT, but she's certainly good enough that she was kicking Joey's butt prior to Duelist Kingdom. Not that she'd ever win against Kaiba, but it would be interesting to see their differing philosophies on friendship clash. - Atem vs Ishizu - The pharaoh going up against someone who has a vested interest in seeing his quest fulfilled, and who's in a position to guide him concerning the Millennium Items. I say yes. - Yugi/Atem vs Shadi - In the manga, these guys have had at least two Shadow Games with each other that had nothing to do with Duel Monsters. Shadi is never shown dueling in the anime, but he does duel in the games. It would be nice to see him at least be way more proactive than he's been. - Kaiba vs Shadi - Kaiba has a connection to the Millennium Rod. Why WOULDN'T Shadi show up to him at some point to drill it into his head that, no, he can't just ignore it? - Kaiba vs Mako - Mako's been shown time and again to be a powerful duelist. It would be interesting to see how his Ocean-themed deck fares against Kaiba, even if it ends up that he loses.
Gozaburo and Yugi fighting would be a great match up. A duel of a greedy man who fell from grace versus an ancient egyptian pharaoh who too has power. Power vs Power.
Apparently there was a scripted Marik vs Pegasus duel for some sort of event. From what I recall, Pegasus got ahold of Ra and turned it into a Toon to win. Obviously this is non canon.
I would like to say, for as much as Joey used Battle Warrior throughout the whole series, even using him to beat Bonz at Duelist Kingdom... how does it not have a retrain?!
We’ve seen Tea duel more than once in the series, but I think Tristan should’ve dueled more, against Duke, Rebecca, Bakura, and even try his hand against Kaiba to see if he’s worse than Joey…
Mai certainly did deserve more screen time as fans have felt she got a raw deal after the Battle City tournament arc, where she was kind of forgotten until she appeared as apart of Dartz's crew. Plus a duel between Kaiba and Raphael would've been something to see, as Kaiba was furious that Yugi (Atem) had lost to Raphael, a nobody who came out of nowhere, when Kaiba has been trying to beat Yugi in a duel since their first duel Kaiba lost and then their rematch Kaiba won only because he threatened to jump off Pegasus' castle if Yugi attacked his decaying Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon.
Pegasus vs Marik would've been interesting. Pegasus vs Marik, I imagine, could be Marik trying to secure the God Cards before the events of Battle City begin. He confronts Pegasus directly, not trusting his Rare Hunters with such an important task. Marik wins and is able to secure Slifer the Sky Dragon and The Winged Dragon of Ra, but finds out that "someone" had been entrusted with Obelisk the Tormentor mere moments before Marik arrived. Furious, Marik would only learn after the duel of Battle City during its announcement, quickly sending out his rare hunters into the tournament, suspecting that if anyone were to be entrusted with a God Card, it would be the Pharaoh, King of Games himself.
Yeah, that would be the way to do it. It didn't happen that way because we'll in the manga Pegasus was dead, and that scene would not make sense before duelist kingdom. What I could have seen was a reapperance of the duelist kingdom hunters acting as guards for the location of the Egyptian god cards so having either Marik or Rare hunters duel them for the locations of the cards could have functioned well in both scenarios. That said Bakura needed more shows of his abilities. A duel against Pegasus would have helped that even an exhausted one. Him taking down rare hunters even if off-screen would have helped out, especially if they had been set up as major threats rather than disposable minions.
Didn't happen in the manga for obvious reasons, but woulda made good sense in the anime or if Pegasus was kept alive. Nice little prelude into the meat of the arc and woulda been a nice intro for Marik if the first we see of him is defeating the previous villain.

Would've also made Marik seem like an unstoppable threat if he was able to humiliate and defeat Pegasus within only a few turns, like how Pegasus humiliated Kaiba.

I feel like little yugi really needed more duels, having just like 5? Duels is insane, specially cause characters like yuma/astral have more individual record. I'm surprise no mention of what if atem really did lose his soul in the oricalcous arc, that mean not only does yugi beat rapheal, hinting the fact he is better duelists since he beat the one guy who duel atem, but teaming up with kaiba for the first time
Here's a good one: in setting up his last Shadow Game, the Yugis actually manage to resist it to a point, it misfires, and we wind up with the Pharaoh trussed up instead? Combined with season 4, now they're both in a position of victimization, and we see the other partner fight thru it.

Here’s a few I’d have liked to see that weren’t mentioned… *Mai vs Weevil/Bandit Keith* Mai was kind of a cheater (though not to the extent that Weevil and Keith are) in her first duels, so having her duel another cheater after she changed her ways would be kind of a full circle moment. *Joey vs Panic* Battle City had Joey beating people who Yugi faced in Duelists Kingdom (Weevil and Mako) to show how he progressed as a duelist. Panic would’ve been a great addition to this trend. I’d also love to see how Panic’s gameplay evolves in the era of the show where there are actually rules. *Joey vs Tristan* Not the most evenly matched duel here, but it would be a fun watch nonetheless. Joey and Tristan are best friends who love to bust on each other, which makes them perfect opponents for a duel. I think this would either be Tristan’s attempt to win the “right” to date Serenity, or this could happen when Joey’s under Marik’s control, right before he duels Yugi. *Exodia vs The Gods* Kind of an exception since this doesn’t involve a specific character, but I’d have loved to see someone with an Exodia deck duel someone with at least one Egyptian God, especially since Ishizu explicitly claims the Gods are more powerful than Exodia. We kind of got this in GX with Yubel vs Adrian, but that was with the Sacred Beasts, not the original God cards. *Mai vs Ishizu* Another potential full circle moment for Mai. She originally claimed she could tell the future, now she can duel someone who can actually tell the future. *Noah vs Gozaburo* This would be the third “Kaiba vs Kaiba” duel of the virtual world arc. This could either be a villain vs villain fight, or this could happen after Noah turned a new leaf and could earn redemption through this duel. *Dartz vs Rafael* The final boss of Doma vs his strongest underling who turned against him. This could happen right before Kaiba and Yugi duel him, and Dartz would win decisively, making him more intimidating. *Yugi vs Zigfried* Zigfried is the only main antagonist that Yugi hasn’t dueled. I kind of like this, as it makes the arc unique, but it still leaves me wondering what a duel between them would look like. *Leon vs Zigfried* They’re brothers, they’re both strong duelists, one’s good and one’s bad… this seems like a natural matchup. *Bakura vs Yami Bakura/Marik vs Yami Marik* The series ended with Yugi getting to duel and beat his other self. It would’ve been nice if Bakura and Marik could get the same chance. Especially since their other selves were a danger to them and not a friend. Bakura did help Yugi beat his evil self in Duelists Kingdom, and Marik did help Bakura against his evil self in Battle City, but neither is quite the same as allowing them to duel their evil selves directly.
I love Dartz as a concept, but my biggest critique is his lack of screentime. So I LOVE the idea of him wiping the floor with Rafael to demonstrate how big a gap there is between henchman and boss. Exodia vs egyptian gods is also interesting since it's a fan debate to this day.
Pegasus & Bakura dueled Mai, Joey & Yugi in a Public Scripted Duel where the Toons were used, so I’d say Pegasus was having a ball just like he did against Seto with windups
Honda/Tristian vs Joey whould have been fun at some point. A typical cheer him up duel but yeah they are friends who talks with thier fits not cards but still.
Bakura vs Ishizu would’ve been very interesting. I don’t if it was noticeable but Yami Bakura and Yami Marik have a similar play style since both of their main strategies involve the graveyard and Ishizu’s whole gimmick is messing with the gy
Funny enough, numbers seven and one actually do take place in The Sacred Cards. Basically, what happens in that game's version of the Battle City Finals is that the player faces Odion in place of Joey, who has his duel with Marik happen sooner. This leads to Kaiba and Mai closing out the semi-finals (Ishizu doesn't participate), and yes, Kaiba does indeed win. The semi-finals then have the player face Yugi, while Kaiba (who, in this continuity, didn't receive Obelisk- the player does instead) duels and loses to Marik, leaving the player to face off against Marik in the finals. It's also funny that you mentioned Pegasus changing up archetypes in the number four segment. I actually had a weird dream the other night where I was facing a glitched-out Seeker who, instead of running his usual Exodia deck, was somehow running Gouki. In Nightmare Troubadour. A game that predates the debut of Gouki by over a decade.
Rebecca vs Kaiba. Imagine the war of words between the two during the duel. Grandpa vs Kaiba (on-screen duel). Joey vs Rebecca. Same as the Kaiba/Rebecca matchup. Lots of trash talk possible. Odion vs Ishizu. Maybe something about the fate of Marik? Those are a few that immediately came to mind, outside of the Mai vs Kaiba you mentioned.
Odion vs Ishizu would've been a great duel to have prior to Battle City (or at least prior to the finals) as Ishizu tries to convince Odion to side with the Pharaoh. Probably would need to end in a draw but would be fun to see. I'm a big Odion fan so shocked at myself for not including him on any duels in this list 🤦

Mai vs Ishizu (This duel could be interesting as we could have this set in Battle City during the preliminaries and Ishizu claiming a locator card from Mai without taking her rare card and it would give Mai a loss in Battle City during the preliminaries as we don't see the duelists she's beaten to get her Locator cards. also it would be interesting seeing Mai's beauty vs Ishizu's egyptian beauty.) 8. Duke vs Zigfried Schroeder ( The duel of creators with duke being the creator of DDM [Dungeon Dice Monsters] vs the Creator of the Battle Box and his valkyrie deck) 7. Rebecca vs Mai (This duel could have happened during the Doma Arc but Valon dueled and stopped Mai from doing so though a duel between these 2 would be interesting the woman who entered Duelist Kingdom And Battle City vs the intercontinental champion in the KC Grand Prix Harpie's vs Cure/Burn Gem Dragon deck.) 6. Kaiba vs Mai (Now this duel would be hard to place but it could probably take place before battle city probably after the Legendary Heroes Arc it would be interesting seeing Mai's Harpies vs Kaiba's blue eyes deck or a post Battle City duel.) 5. Joey vs Yami Bakura (This duel could happen during the memory world arc and it could end the same way though when Atem falls and the word blacks out the duel ends but Bakura's shadow powers are effected making it so he can't send Joey to the Shadow Realm but it would establish the threat Yami Bakura is) 4. Joey vs Leon (This would be a great duel between these 2 and no matter who wins one of them will be facing Yugi as a prize though if Leon wins Joey would smirk and be happy he had a great duel same with Leon) 3. Kaiba vs Bandit Keith (A duel we have never seen though it would interesting to see the now former champ and leader of the ghouls vs Kaiba but with his post KC Grandprix deck) 2. Grandpa motto vs Yugi (A duel between the Grand father and Grandson and it would be similar to Joey vs Solomon Motto in the KC GrandPrix and in terms of placement it could happen before the memory world arc) 1. Kaiba vs Marik (The duel between the battle city finalists though as mentioned its probably on everyones list) Though my only questions do movie duels count ?
Here are top 5 Kaiba vs Big 5 -Sure we got that awesome duel with Yugi and Joey but this one wouldve been good for Kaiba. Basically him getting revenge on the Big 5 personally Bakura vs Joey, Tristan AND Duke -Hear me out. 1 v 3 duels are VERY rare but Yugi's three other friends who are duelists taking on the big bad. It would show how deadly bakura is that he can take down 3 duelists at once Pegasus/Grandpa vs Yugi/Joey -Maybe after Pegasus' change of heart during Doma arc. Could be after Yugi's loss to Raphael. This duel could be a way to help Yugi overcome his guilt Bakura vs Good Marik, Odion and Ishizu -Again to show Bakura's true skill as a duelist. Marik and his siblings living up to the titles and duties of protecting the Pharaoh and his legacy. Bakura could try to mess with the Pharaoh's tomb and the siblings try to stop him. Kaiba vs Marik -Who doesnt want this match? I see Kaiba winning this but with extreme difficulty. He would need slifer too tbh

the marik vs bakura one would of been interesting cause of their dueling styles are similar so they could be just seeing which is better (occult vs grave's)
Ishizu Vs Marik would have been perfect to have during the Virtual World arc when everyone is dealing with The Big 5 & Noah. since during that time I think Marik just ends up wandering around & breaking some doors. if Ishuzu dueled him to buy time for everyone to escape the virtual world & try preventing him from getting to their comatose bodies that could have been epic :)

I always imagined what if Marik winning Battle City would do to Dartz's plans... Marik vs Kaiba(with both Slifer and Obelisk) would be insane even tho i seriously think that Kaiba would win, but i would have loved to see Marik with all 3 egyptian gods vs Dartz with the stakes, of course, that if Marik loses then the Great Leviathan would be revived meaning the end of the world(even tho the world perishes whatever happens)
I liked that they did a life duel between Joey and Pegasus at one of the tournaments, but Pegasus leaned all the way into the fiendish side of his deck and rinsed him.
I don't know how you'd fit in into the show, but I'd like to have seen Zigfried vs Noah. Thematically, it works as they're both longtime rivals to Kaiba, so it's feasible that they have some kind of history with each other. Aesthetically, their decks would go well against each other as they're both mythical and "heavenly" Mechanically, it would be really interesting to see how they're playstyles clash... Zigfried's all about swarming the field with monsters. Noah often has a near empty field at the end of his turn. Zigfried has cards that manipulate what cards are in his opponent's hand. Noah's all about monsters that return to his hand. Zigfried's about OTKing with direct attacks, Noah's about constantly gaining lifepoints so he can tank direct attacks.
Funny thing, we did get kaiba vs ra in the video game yugioh the sacred cards, we dont see the duel play save for the last move wich was ra attacking abd destroying 3 blue eyes with marik as the victor

there was one what if duel i thought about but it was in GX and not in the original series i'm afraid the match is Kaiba and Atem vs Jaden and syrus however the more i think about it the more i think this is a mismatch Kaiba and Atem would mop the floor with jaden and syrus especially if Atem has the god cards and Kaiba has blue eyes shining dragon

Kaiba vs Rafael could be possible. Like Kaiba finds him and demands a duel against him after hearing he beat Yugi. They can either end in a tie or a no contest having Allister arriving to end the duel because he wants to beat Kaiba. They could also had done is the first duel of season 5 be Kaiba vs Rafael straight up with no orichalchos bs. Fair duel and have Kaiba win and move on. Also Kaiba can put Rafael in that tournament he had.
I honestly want to see Joey vs Pegasus because if we take the Pyramid movie into account, Joey's the only one between him Kaiba and Atem that hasn't beaten him yet
Bakura vs. Tristan, due to Bakura needing to have more displays of wins should have happened during their confrontation when Tristan threw the millennium ring outside. Joey vs. Kaiba 3 with Joey getting at least one win over Kaiba. I also wanted Mai vs. Kaiba just for the possible interactions.
i think that another thing that would be very difficult for pegasus to duel against joey, is that at some point forward is that joey use a lot of gamble cards. yes, pegasus would be able to see when card will joey will use, but he won't be able to see the outcome of gamble cards.
I suppose it depends. Joey's gamble cards are typically a good result or a bad result. Pegasus could plan for the good result, while the bad result would take care of Joey by itself. It'd be different if the gamble cards had 2 separate good effects, making it hard for Pegasus to predict what he should be on guard for.
Id like to see mai go up against thebbig 5 or Noah. I was really sad that her character was unconscious through that whole arc. I would also like to see Dartz go up against all the other villains.

while not the same, i do yugioh cpu vs cpu tournaments on my channel, and with my Reduel series some of these may happen. do not look at my early stuff though, the audio is horrible.

Weevil Underwood I feel Number 8 would be the hardest to work into a story where Pegasus just wasn't a part of the story without Kaiba extending an invitation to Pegasus as a guest of his Tournament just to show off, & even then as a guest I wouldn't expect he would duel. Nevertheless I want to see that pairing anyway
Mako vs Weevil is an interesting one. It's not confirmed who Mako lost to in the Japanese Nationals, but I'm guessing it was against Weevil due to Weevil cheating. So seeing them settle that score would be cool.
Have we ever seen a Rex vs Weevil duel played out in full? We've seen part of a duel between them, but I don't think there's been a full duel seen on screen.

I wanna see yugi vs Rex. No good reason other than Joey got to duel weevile, so it makes sense that yugi gets to duel Rex, but also, I just wanna see how badly Rex gets curb stomped
Joey vs Leon would have been great what should have happened is have Joey not duel Zigfried in round 2, have him duel the monkey guy or Sherlock ripoff, then in the semifinals Joey faced Zigfried but Kaiba stopped the duel and disqualified Zigfried, giving Joey the win, then Leon beats Rebecca and then we get Joey vs Leon and then Joey vs Yugi. I still hate how Joey lost his second duel in the KC grand championship

Pegasus was mopping the floor with Yugi too until he figured out a way around the mind scan with the mind shuffle. Joey wouldn't have that so he'd probably do even worse than Kaiba did.

If Marik dueled Kaiba, I'd imagine he'd attempt to conjure a Shadow game and fail because the Millennium Rod would remain neutral in their duel.
My suggestion- Filler Villain Battle Royale. Noah v. Dartz v. Siegfried, each bringing in their own unfair duel gimmicks and shenanigans.
Siegfried isn’t really that unfair he just uses a control/OTK deck.

Bakura beating Joey and Pegasus would help greatly in establishing him as a major threat. They kinda failed in doing that cuz he lost most of his duels.
Funny enough, The Sacred Cards has Kaiba duel both Mai and Yami Marik. It’s a quick summon and attack for a game that didn’t have that many rules to follow, but the concept was there.
In the story for the Sacred cards on the GBA, Mai and Kaiba did duel, where he took out her Harpie with Blue eyes and I've always been curious to see how a duel between them would go. Glad to see that on the list.
Kaiba vs Marik would’ve been epic. I’d have loved to see that duel.
A couple thoughts
1) I'd love for Grandpa vs Atem to take place in a flashback when Grandpa found the Millennium Puzzle, as a way for Atem to test Grandpa Moto. Probably have Atem win, but Grandpa proves himself worthy of taking the puzzle home with him. However the loss is why he could never complete it himself.
2) Personally, I'd place Marik vs Ishizu somewhere before Marik vs Mai (which I know gets in the way of Kaiba vs Ishizu, so that would have to be solved) in order for Ishizu to act as a duel spirit for Mai in the match against Marik.
Love that idea for Grandpa vs Atem
It would of been cool to see Mai and Kaiba interact in a duel

I'm surprised no one mentioned Ishizu vs Pegasus. I would love to see a mind reader vs a person who can predict the future duel against each other.
Necklace doesn't work on people with a millennium item, so Ishizu wouldn't get the benefit (it's why she couldn't just see Marik or Atem's future).
Seto Kaiba vs Bandit Keith: Keith is leading the Neo Ghouls and is running an operation stealing a shipment of Kaiba Corp hardware. Seto spearheads a counter-op to cease the thefts and Keith sets up a trap holding Mokuba hostage and challenging Seto to a duel to buy his crew time to escape with the merchandise. Seto duels and steamrolls Keith, but Keith evades capture and tries to rendezvous with the other ghouls only to find they were caught by Kaiba Corp merc's. Keith gets caught and arrested by the merc's as well
Some other suggestions
Tea vs Rebecca: A battle for Yugi’s heart.
Kaiba vs Rebecca: At one point in the game Reshef of Destruction, Rebecca actually does challenge Kaiba to a duel over him ripping up Grandpa’s Blue Eyes White Dragon. That’s a good idea.
Tristan vs Devlin: These two fought so much it’s suprising they never dueled at all.
Serenity vs Mokuba: Two younger siblings of major characters who barely have any experience in dueling. And those two older siblings hate each other and will probably be backseat dueling the whole time.
In no particular order:
-Mai vs Bandith Keith (to see who's third place on Duelist Kingdome
- Ishizu vs Odion (a duel between Marik's siblings)
- Pegasus vs Marik (a duel between Duel Monster's arc villains)
-Joey vs Rebecca (i just wanna see Joey wipe out that cocky girl)
-Zigfried vs Leon (it would be interesting to see how the Grand Championship final would had been, if Kaiba didn't interrupted it. Even thought, i'm sure Zigfriend would had win easley)

Ishizu vs Mai would've been a good one
My personal suggestions:
- Tristan vs Duke - Yes, we know Tristan isn't a duelist, but he DOES collect cards from time to time, and he himself lists Cyber Commander as his favorite. Perhaps he could have run a Cyber-theme deck (pre-GX, of course), and in this case, he and Duke would duel over Serenity (and they DID have a physical fight on top of Kaiba's blimp).
- Tristan vs Bakura - Tristan has foiled Bakura's plans at least once, during Duelist Kingdom, and Bakura used him as a puppet during the Memory World arc. Plus, it would give Tristan some much-needed dueling screentime (though he'd likely lose).
- Ishizu vs Mai - The only two female duelists during the Battle City finals, getting a chance to throw down? Why not?
- Marik vs Pegasus - Marik, during his time leading the Rare Hunters, would have been searching for the Egyptian God Cards. He would have known Pegasus was the creator of the cards. Why WOULDN'T he have gone to Pegasus to confront him about where the cards were? This would likely fit in best prior to the Battle City tournament; which one of them would have won would be up in the air.
- Yugi vs Gozaburo - Yes, yes, Gozaburo has far more personal history with Kaiba than he could ever have with Yugi, but hey - Gozaburo used Exodia Necross! And we know Yugi's grandpa used the original Exodia. That would throw in a bit of a personal element for Yugi right there.
- Tea vs Kaiba - Tea may not be an EXPERT, but she's certainly good enough that she was kicking Joey's butt prior to Duelist Kingdom. Not that she'd ever win against Kaiba, but it would be interesting to see their differing philosophies on friendship clash.
- Atem vs Ishizu - The pharaoh going up against someone who has a vested interest in seeing his quest fulfilled, and who's in a position to guide him concerning the Millennium Items. I say yes.
- Yugi/Atem vs Shadi - In the manga, these guys have had at least two Shadow Games with each other that had nothing to do with Duel Monsters. Shadi is never shown dueling in the anime, but he does duel in the games. It would be nice to see him at least be way more proactive than he's been.
- Kaiba vs Shadi - Kaiba has a connection to the Millennium Rod. Why WOULDN'T Shadi show up to him at some point to drill it into his head that, no, he can't just ignore it?
- Kaiba vs Mako - Mako's been shown time and again to be a powerful duelist. It would be interesting to see how his Ocean-themed deck fares against Kaiba, even if it ends up that he loses.
Would love to have seen Shadi duel. Since they didn't give Odion Gravekeeper's, Shadi could run them instead
Gozaburo and Yugi fighting would be a great match up.
A duel of a greedy man who fell from grace versus an ancient egyptian pharaoh who too has power.

I would like to say, for as much as Joey used Battle Warrior throughout the whole series, even using him to beat Bonz at Duelist Kingdom... how does it not have a retrain?!
We’ve seen Tea duel more than once in the series, but I think Tristan should’ve dueled more, against Duke, Rebecca, Bakura, and even try his hand against Kaiba to see if he’s worse than Joey…

Mai certainly did deserve more screen time as fans have felt she got a raw deal after the Battle City tournament arc, where she was kind of forgotten until she appeared as apart of Dartz's crew. Plus a duel between Kaiba and Raphael would've been something to see, as Kaiba was furious that Yugi (Atem) had lost to Raphael, a nobody who came out of nowhere, when Kaiba has been trying to beat Yugi in a duel since their first duel Kaiba lost and then their rematch Kaiba won only because he threatened to jump off Pegasus' castle if Yugi attacked his decaying Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon.
Pegasus vs Marik would've been interesting.
Pegasus vs Marik, I imagine, could be Marik trying to secure the God Cards before the events of Battle City begin. He confronts Pegasus directly, not trusting his Rare Hunters with such an important task.
Marik wins and is able to secure Slifer the Sky Dragon and The Winged Dragon of Ra, but finds out that "someone" had been entrusted with Obelisk the Tormentor mere moments before Marik arrived.
Furious, Marik would only learn after the duel of Battle City during its announcement, quickly sending out his rare hunters into the tournament, suspecting that if anyone were to be entrusted with a God Card, it would be the Pharaoh, King of Games himself.
Yeah, that would be the way to do it. It didn't happen that way because we'll in the manga Pegasus was dead, and that scene would not make sense before duelist kingdom.
What I could have seen was a reapperance of the duelist kingdom hunters acting as guards for the location of the Egyptian god cards so having either Marik or Rare hunters duel them for the locations of the cards could have functioned well in both scenarios.
That said Bakura needed more shows of his abilities. A duel against Pegasus would have helped that even an exhausted one. Him taking down rare hunters even if off-screen would have helped out, especially if they had been set up as major threats rather than disposable minions.
Didn't happen in the manga for obvious reasons, but woulda made good sense in the anime or if Pegasus was kept alive. Nice little prelude into the meat of the arc and woulda been a nice intro for Marik if the first we see of him is defeating the previous villain.

I feel like little yugi really needed more duels, having just like 5? Duels is insane, specially cause characters like yuma/astral have more individual record.

Here's a good one: in setting up his last Shadow Game, the Yugis actually manage to resist it to a point, it misfires, and we wind up with the Pharaoh trussed up instead? Combined with season 4, now they're both in a position of victimization, and we see the other partner fight thru it.

Here’s a few I’d have liked to see that weren’t mentioned…
*Mai vs Weevil/Bandit Keith*
Mai was kind of a cheater (though not to the extent that Weevil and Keith are) in her first duels, so having her duel another cheater after she changed her ways would be kind of a full circle moment.
*Joey vs Panic*
Battle City had Joey beating people who Yugi faced in Duelists Kingdom (Weevil and Mako) to show how he progressed as a duelist. Panic would’ve been a great addition to this trend. I’d also love to see how Panic’s gameplay evolves in the era of the show where there are actually rules.
*Joey vs Tristan*
Not the most evenly matched duel here, but it would be a fun watch nonetheless. Joey and Tristan are best friends who love to bust on each other, which makes them perfect opponents for a duel. I think this would either be Tristan’s attempt to win the “right” to date Serenity, or this could happen when Joey’s under Marik’s control, right before he duels Yugi.
*Exodia vs The Gods*
Kind of an exception since this doesn’t involve a specific character, but I’d have loved to see someone with an Exodia deck duel someone with at least one Egyptian God, especially since Ishizu explicitly claims the Gods are more powerful than Exodia. We kind of got this in GX with Yubel vs Adrian, but that was with the Sacred Beasts, not the original God cards.
*Mai vs Ishizu*
Another potential full circle moment for Mai. She originally claimed she could tell the future, now she can duel someone who can actually tell the future.
*Noah vs Gozaburo*
This would be the third “Kaiba vs Kaiba” duel of the virtual world arc. This could either be a villain vs villain fight, or this could happen after Noah turned a new leaf and could earn redemption through this duel.
*Dartz vs Rafael*
The final boss of Doma vs his strongest underling who turned against him. This could happen right before Kaiba and Yugi duel him, and Dartz would win decisively, making him more intimidating.
*Yugi vs Zigfried*
Zigfried is the only main antagonist that Yugi hasn’t dueled. I kind of like this, as it makes the arc unique, but it still leaves me wondering what a duel between them would look like.
*Leon vs Zigfried*
They’re brothers, they’re both strong duelists, one’s good and one’s bad… this seems like a natural matchup.
*Bakura vs Yami Bakura/Marik vs Yami Marik*
The series ended with Yugi getting to duel and beat his other self. It would’ve been nice if Bakura and Marik could get the same chance. Especially since their other selves were a danger to them and not a friend. Bakura did help Yugi beat his evil self in Duelists Kingdom, and Marik did help Bakura against his evil self in Battle City, but neither is quite the same as allowing them to duel their evil selves directly.
I love Dartz as a concept, but my biggest critique is his lack of screentime. So I LOVE the idea of him wiping the floor with Rafael to demonstrate how big a gap there is between henchman and boss.
Exodia vs egyptian gods is also interesting since it's a fan debate to this day.
Pegasus & Bakura dueled Mai, Joey & Yugi in a Public Scripted Duel where the Toons were used, so I’d say Pegasus was having a ball just like he did against Seto with windups
Honda/Tristian vs Joey whould have been fun at some point. A typical cheer him up duel but yeah they are friends who talks with thier fits not cards but still.

Bakura vs Ishizu would’ve been very interesting. I don’t if it was noticeable but Yami Bakura and Yami Marik have a similar play style since both of their main strategies involve the graveyard and Ishizu’s whole gimmick is messing with the gy
Tea Vs. Rebbecca : Love Triangle for Yugi/Atem.
Funny enough, numbers seven and one actually do take place in The Sacred Cards. Basically, what happens in that game's version of the Battle City Finals is that the player faces Odion in place of Joey, who has his duel with Marik happen sooner. This leads to Kaiba and Mai closing out the semi-finals (Ishizu doesn't participate), and yes, Kaiba does indeed win. The semi-finals then have the player face Yugi, while Kaiba (who, in this continuity, didn't receive Obelisk- the player does instead) duels and loses to Marik, leaving the player to face off against Marik in the finals.
It's also funny that you mentioned Pegasus changing up archetypes in the number four segment. I actually had a weird dream the other night where I was facing a glitched-out Seeker who, instead of running his usual Exodia deck, was somehow running Gouki. In Nightmare Troubadour. A game that predates the debut of Gouki by over a decade.
Rebecca vs Kaiba. Imagine the war of words between the two during the duel.
Grandpa vs Kaiba (on-screen duel).
Joey vs Rebecca. Same as the Kaiba/Rebecca matchup. Lots of trash talk possible.
Odion vs Ishizu. Maybe something about the fate of Marik?
Those are a few that immediately came to mind, outside of the Mai vs Kaiba you mentioned.
Odion vs Ishizu would've been a great duel to have prior to Battle City (or at least prior to the finals) as Ishizu tries to convince Odion to side with the Pharaoh. Probably would need to end in a draw but would be fun to see.
I'm a big Odion fan so shocked at myself for not including him on any duels in this list 🤦

Mai vs Ishizu (This duel could be interesting as we could have this set in Battle City during the preliminaries and Ishizu claiming a locator card from Mai without taking her rare card and it would give Mai a loss in Battle City during the preliminaries as we don't see the duelists she's beaten to get her Locator cards. also it would be interesting seeing Mai's beauty vs Ishizu's egyptian beauty.)
8. Duke vs Zigfried Schroeder ( The duel of creators with duke being the creator of DDM [Dungeon Dice Monsters] vs the Creator of the Battle Box and his valkyrie deck)
7. Rebecca vs Mai (This duel could have happened during the Doma Arc but Valon dueled and stopped Mai from doing so though a duel between these 2 would be interesting the woman who entered Duelist Kingdom And Battle City vs the intercontinental champion in the KC Grand Prix Harpie's vs Cure/Burn Gem Dragon deck.)
6. Kaiba vs Mai (Now this duel would be hard to place but it could probably take place before battle city probably after the Legendary Heroes Arc it would be interesting seeing Mai's Harpies vs Kaiba's blue eyes deck or a post Battle City duel.)
5. Joey vs Yami Bakura (This duel could happen during the memory world arc and it could end the same way though when Atem falls and the word blacks out the duel ends but Bakura's shadow powers are effected making it so he can't send Joey to the Shadow Realm but it would establish the threat Yami Bakura is)
4. Joey vs Leon (This would be a great duel between these 2 and no matter who wins one of them will be facing Yugi as a prize though if Leon wins Joey would smirk and be happy he had a great duel same with Leon)
3. Kaiba vs Bandit Keith (A duel we have never seen though it would interesting to see the now former champ and leader of the ghouls vs Kaiba but with his post KC Grandprix deck)
2. Grandpa motto vs Yugi (A duel between the Grand father and Grandson and it would be similar to Joey vs Solomon Motto in the KC GrandPrix and in terms of placement it could happen before the memory world arc)

-Hear me out. 1 v 3 duels are VERY rare but Yugi's three other friends who are duelists taking on the big bad. It would show how deadly bakura is that he can take down 3 duelists at once
Pegasus/Grandpa vs Yugi/Joey
-Maybe after Pegasus' change of heart during Doma arc. Could be after Yugi's loss to Raphael. This duel could be a way to help Yugi overcome his guilt
Bakura vs Good Marik, Odion and Ishizu
-Again to show Bakura's true skill as a duelist. Marik and his siblings living up to the titles and duties of protecting the Pharaoh and his legacy. Bakura could try to mess with the Pharaoh's tomb and the siblings try to stop him.
Kaiba vs Marik
-Who doesnt want this match? I see Kaiba winning this but with extreme difficulty. He would need slifer too tbh

Ishizu Vs Marik would have been perfect to have during the Virtual World arc when everyone is dealing with The Big 5 & Noah. since during that time I think Marik just ends up wandering around & breaking some doors. if Ishuzu dueled him to buy time for everyone to escape the virtual world & try preventing him from getting to their comatose bodies that could have been epic :)
That actually woulda been a perfect place for it, and now I'm mad the anime writers didn't think of that xD
@@customcardguy they thought up a bunch of filler villains yet couldn't think of something for Marik to do during the filler arc. it's somewhat baffling.
I always imagined what if Marik winning Battle City would do to Dartz's plans...
Marik vs Kaiba(with both Slifer and Obelisk) would be insane even tho i seriously think that Kaiba would win, but i would have loved to see Marik with all 3 egyptian gods vs Dartz with the stakes, of course, that if Marik loses then the Great Leviathan would be revived meaning the end of the world(even tho the world perishes whatever happens)
I liked that they did a life duel between Joey and Pegasus at one of the tournaments, but Pegasus leaned all the way into the fiendish side of his deck and rinsed him.

Grandpa vs Yugi would had been easy to do in the Grand Prix. No soul stuff or shadow games needed. Just teacher and student having a good game.
I don't know how you'd fit in into the show, but I'd like to have seen Zigfried vs Noah.
Thematically, it works as they're both longtime rivals to Kaiba, so it's feasible that they have some kind of history with each other.
Aesthetically, their decks would go well against each other as they're both mythical and "heavenly"
Mechanically, it would be really interesting to see how they're playstyles clash...
Zigfried's all about swarming the field with monsters. Noah often has a near empty field at the end of his turn.
Zigfried has cards that manipulate what cards are in his opponent's hand. Noah's all about monsters that return to his hand.
Zigfried's about OTKing with direct attacks, Noah's about constantly gaining lifepoints so he can tank direct attacks.
Funny thing, we did get kaiba vs ra in the video game yugioh the sacred cards, we dont see the duel play save for the last move wich was ra attacking abd destroying 3 blue eyes with marik as the victor
Imagine pegasus defeating bakura and sealing his soul in toon world using bakura as a punch bag on the holographic machine, having bakura fight his toon monsters and lose painfully
there was one what if duel i thought about but it was in GX and not in the original series i'm afraid the match is Kaiba and Atem vs Jaden and syrus however the more i think about it the more i think this is a mismatch Kaiba and Atem would mop the floor with jaden and syrus especially if Atem has the god cards and Kaiba has blue eyes shining dragon

Kaiba vs Rafael could be possible. Like Kaiba finds him and demands a duel against him after hearing he beat Yugi. They can either end in a tie or a no contest having Allister arriving to end the duel because he wants to beat Kaiba.
They could also had done is the first duel of season 5 be Kaiba vs Rafael straight up with no orichalchos bs. Fair duel and have Kaiba win and move on. Also Kaiba can put Rafael in that tournament he had.
I honestly want to see Joey vs Pegasus because if we take the Pyramid movie into account, Joey's the only one between him Kaiba and Atem that hasn't beaten him yet

Bakura vs. Tristan, due to Bakura needing to have more displays of wins should have happened during their confrontation when Tristan threw the millennium ring outside. Joey vs. Kaiba 3 with Joey getting at least one win over Kaiba. I also wanted Mai vs. Kaiba just for the possible interactions.
i think that another thing that would be very difficult for pegasus to duel against joey, is that at some point forward is that joey use a lot of gamble cards. yes, pegasus would be able to see when card will joey will use, but he won't be able to see the outcome of gamble cards.
I suppose it depends. Joey's gamble cards are typically a good result or a bad result. Pegasus could plan for the good result, while the bad result would take care of Joey by itself. It'd be different if the gamble cards had 2 separate good effects, making it hard for Pegasus to predict what he should be on guard for.
Would have loved in the seal of orichalcos Rex and Weevil with the winner joining Dartz
If not for their brief show of a duel in episode 2, Rex and Weevil woulda definitely made the list. Seeing them rematch would be great.
Id like to see mai go up against thebbig 5 or Noah. I was really sad that her character was unconscious through that whole arc. I would also like to see Dartz go up against all the other villains.
I’m curious what Shadow Rule Marik would impose in his battle with Kaiba. Probably the same as Joey since they wild be taking that semi final battle slot

I feel Number 8 would be the hardest to work into a story where Pegasus just wasn't a part of the story without Kaiba extending an invitation to Pegasus as a guest of his Tournament just to show off, & even then as a guest I wouldn't expect he would duel. Nevertheless I want to see that pairing anyway
Mako vs Weevil is an interesting one. It's not confirmed who Mako lost to in the Japanese Nationals, but I'm guessing it was against Weevil due to Weevil cheating. So seeing them settle that score would be cool.
Have we ever seen a Rex vs Weevil duel played out in full? We've seen part of a duel between them, but I don't think there's been a full duel seen on screen.
We don't get a full duel between them, but since there was a small portion shown, I excluded it from my list. Would've been a nice duel to have though!

Joey vs Leon would have been great what should have happened is have Joey not duel Zigfried in round 2, have him duel the monkey guy or Sherlock ripoff, then in the semifinals Joey faced Zigfried but Kaiba stopped the duel and disqualified Zigfried, giving Joey the win, then Leon beats Rebecca and then we get Joey vs Leon and then Joey vs Yugi. I still hate how Joey lost his second duel in the KC grand championship

bro joey vs pegasus is my #1, joey even has a viable strategy against his millenium eye. Gambling is unpredictable, Pegasus would have no way of knowing what the dice or coin would land on
Interesting point about the gambling lol. Though IIRC, Joey's only gambling card in Duelist Kingdom is Time Wizard so it's not like Pegasus would be caught off guard by a lot

Seeing as Joey just barely lost to yugi I don't think it's fair to say Pegasus would wash him. I think Joey could win. Not garenteed to but could.
Pegasus was mopping the floor with Yugi too until he figured out a way around the mind scan with the mind shuffle. Joey wouldn't have that so he'd probably do even worse than Kaiba did.
Ya it's crazy how a lot of these comments ppl forget about vital details of the show that would greatly effect these duels. Also Joey should never beat Kaiba. He s just not on that level @@customcardguy
