We embark on an exciting destination today which has been on our bucket list as we travel through France in our campervan Harry. Pegasus Bridge is an iconic mission on D-Day 6th June 1944 and was executed with precision and bravery. The Longest Day film whilst overall factual like many movies the truth was bent in placers so we discover those untruths as well as discovering a fascinating military mission.

Really interesting story and very well told. Years ago, on our way further south we drove of the ferry heading for our overnight hotel but managed to get lost and ended up in the centre of Caen at 11pm 😳.
I used my (very poor) schoolgirl French in a little bar to ask for directions and straight away 2 young men said they would lead us there, just follow their car. After a hairaisingly fast drive through the city centre it took us around 29 minutes to get to our hotel. The men wouldn't take anything apart from our thanks saying that the city owed so much to the liberating forces they were happy to help us. I have never forgotten how touched I was by their actions 💕

Hi Jane and Stew, great story well told, like some of the other comments my father didn't talk about the war. As I got older he did say that it was a terrible thing to shoot a man from so far away. He was a sniper in the war.
You can’t understand the feeling they went through but trying to ensure the stories are told and the importance for future generations for me is critical

Great video Jane and Stew. We visited Caen a number of years ago and, bearing in mind how much the town was destroyed in the war, we were amazed, wandering around the town centre, just how well it had all been restored. We were SO impressed !
Yes it was fairly well flattened in many places - we have visited a few towns and cities in France and amazed at not just how they recover but also to build them back as they were

Really excellent vlog Stew. So much work into the production, editing, and story-tellling. My Dad was WWII in New Guinea and never talked about his Military Medal deeds but we now have his story. A different breed back in those days. Thanks again

It’s a fare few years ago my wife and cycled the full length of the D day landings from the American sector to the British sector remember visiting Pegasus bridge excellent trip so much history.

Superb video, I think the landing of the gliders was described as the finest piece of flying in the second world War, I believe it was Eisnhower but not sure.

My dad would never talk about the war & when questioned would only make a joke of it. After I emigrated to Canada he gave me the medal diploma that he had so I made copies for my family. When my dad saw the copies he asked if he could have one, a family member said he could but he had to tell how he got it. Turns out he was the first person to go thru a mine field flagging all the mines so the others could get through. The very thought of crawling thru a mine field waiting for a bang!

Wonderful video, a fascinating period of history, people were so brave. My grandfather fought in both world wars, lying about his age twice. He didn't speak about his experience, I may research his regiment myself, one day. Durham Light Infantry. Thank you for your excellent vlogs. The cafe and the custard tarts looked amazing. Just had our first overnight in our CW California please do a video on how you can do so long in Harry. Space and what to pack for long trips. We have got a Potti Loo. Love all your long trips to Ireland and now Europe. we both have health issues so may have to plan on sights but also hope to to use other sights depending on facilities available. We hope to travel to Spain from Ireland to Estepona in the near future, ?????
