I agree, Ive been the victim of crime and the police treated me like a piece of shit. The arrogant lazy a-holes dragged their feet and did nothing. It's even worse when you try to complain its a complete waste of time.
I had my van broken into and tools stolen. I had two two scum bags on CCTV and all I got from the police was a crime number not even a visit to see the damage or CCTV footage.
Well when you look at the HUGE list of police misconduct hearings, prosecutions and imprisonments of police staff then it's no wonder they hate the camera turning in their direction. Makes you wonder how many get away with their crimes due to not being recorded at the time.
If there was an award for informative and essential education channels on TH-cam Focus Pocus should be 👑... I for one appreciate all this guy does for the rights of others and for how he puts his own neck on the line.
I read in the document the case of Jess Hurd a photojournalist, who was detained for more than 45 mins by police while covering a wedding. Her camera was forcibly removed by an officer who told her "we can do anything under the terrorism act" and that just sums it up. This is also why I have grave concerns over the upcoming crime and policing bill, often called the anti protest bill. It's just another bill to strip citizens of their rights. It hands police many more powers. It includes - but isn't limited to, suspicion-less stop and search powers whether you're a protester or not. Increased surveillance of citizens and gives police the right to shutdown any protest they find annoying including protests of ONE person, it basically means only government approved protests allowed and criminalises protesters. They've even banned protesting near parliament, if there's anywhere you should be allowed to protest It's there. It's government overreach and a power grab. It should fiercely resisted.
Hi Focus, As an ex police officer and now Auditor (check my content) in New Zealand, this is a very good video. I must say you nailed it about laziness, it is unbelievable the amount of laziness in the police its incredible, its the biggest thing that effects police in everything they do, I was assigned to a small station about 15 to 20 officers, their were 2 workers there the rest just might as well not exist. It’s very typical behaviour in the public sector. Where people who aren’t good enough to get a job elsewhere are content in doing as little as possible and still collect a paycheque at the end of the day. Knowing that they’ll get away with it. I worked in a public sector job where it was impossible to get sacked. In the end, the only people who you have left in that job is the bad and lazy.

I would then ask for each one of there supervisors contact details to confirm their shift patterns and official lunch breaks. Then do a subject access request for details.

That’s very reasonable, yet most don’t seem able to do some/any of this. I’ve worked over 30yrs. Done all kinds of jobs. I’ve done plenty of bunking off, long lunches and clock watching. It’s because work is boring and tedious. Only do it for money, not for enjoyment. Are you any different? I doubt it.
My local Costa had 2 beautiful girls working there. It was the most secure crime-free part of the entire city. I wonder if all those cops who were “just stopping by” on the same days these girls were working, were as sleazy as Wayne Couzens 🤮
I agree with everything you said. You didn't mention the section in Helen's document that said that consideration should be given for using s136 of the Mental Health Act. Now that is really sinister. Police going down that route when dealing with auditors...

Great video, I think that the problem with the majority of the police is that they think they are the law when in actual fact they need to appreciate that they are simply there to enforce the law (that they seemingly don’t always seem to understand). A most interesting critique. I have read that the phone camera in the USA has had huge affect on policing. Any street incident is automatically filmed by many people. Many cases of these films proving the police lie and are corrupt. Even with no picture the sound recording has done likewise. I have heard many stories on the radio of people who were stitched up and spent 30, 40 years in prison before the truth finally came out. I have no doubt that they are many people currently in jail who are totally innocent of their conviction. I hope that the camera will now prevent this from ever happening again.

"Section 43 of the Terrorism Act 2000 should be used as a last resort" - Fucking WHAT?! You mean, when intimidation, grabbing, handcuffing and generally pushing around hasn't stopped someone from taking part in public photography, as a last resort, an officer should use S43? "Consideration should be given to using powers under S136 Mental Health Act if it was felt the individual was suffering from acute mental ill health" - Ugh, yes. But what does THAT have to do with public photography ?

I'm from a family of cops, military and NHS. Met loads of cops at work and on social occasions. Can confirm that most cops are bone idle and only interested in how they can get paid even more for doing even less. They spend more time looking for promotion, not because of wanting to do a better job, but because it gets them off the streets and into real earning. I've heard loads of stories of cops sleeping in cells while supposed to be on shift, faking patrolling figures to hide their lack of work, faking evidence, providing testimony that they have done/read something when they haven't, selectively ignoring calls etc, etc, etc. To a man, they will all agree if you ask them that they do it because no-one is looking over their shoulder, their supervisors are just as lazy as they are and morale is low because the general perception amongst cops is they feel undervalued and face criticism at all turns, so why bother. Remember it is not in the best interests of Police that crime goes down. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

She did nothing and the 2 guys new it. It left me thinking how powerless they are. Especially now that I know many friends and families who are victims of crime and have been let down by police. In some crimes the police did nothing and closed the case.
It always baffles me that the police genuinely think a hostile person would make it so obvious, have their camera in full view and stand outside a police station for 1 hour waiting to be arrested. When in reality they’ll be much more covert ways, you don’t even need a camera for reconnaissance. In fact a lot of the info can be got from Google Maps and it’s streetview. Are the police that stupid or do they just not care about being this bad?

Great video. It's actually quite shocking how wrong the police get it. U should take this with you on your Audits. Laminated and highlighted so if or when you are searched that's all they find. Telling them how wrong they are doing their job.

On the proofreading point, I agree with you. I was taught many, many years ago (yes, I'm that old!) that you never isolate a heading from the body of text nor do you carry the last line of a paragraph over to the next page (2 lines were the absolute minimum). Excellent video which has beautifully articulated to me, despite the 2010 document, the need for corporate management remains to spoon feed officers on how they should interpret and exercise their powers when dealing with members of the public (who might be recording, so as not to embarrass the force). The simple existence of this guidance document is evidence simply by its existence of corporate management failure and demonstrates the sheer scale of rank and file officers who still wholly fail to understand the most basic policing concepts and legislation that underpins use of their powers.
As always FP Brilliant stuff! I wonder if you might consider something similar on the subject of how auditing may be affected by the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill? (Rejected by the house of lords 2 days ago, I might add.) I'm unsure of what effect it might have, if it were to pass into law. I'm fairly sure we'd all love to hear your thoughts. :)

The thing is they don't "find" terrorists by stopping and searching they recruit them at worst and let them do what they do to "catch them in the act" 🤔 at best..... They've all been "known" to the authorities that need to know
What I have come to realise is that yes there are some police who are actually completely ignorant of the law. However, there are many more who do know that photography is not a crime, but engage anyway, because it's a kind of power game. The real intention is simply to assert authority over a member of the public.
Most of this advice should be applied to ANY interactions with ANY member of the public. Reading between the lines they're just saying if a member of the public has a camera, treat them like a human being. If they don't then it's business as usual.

Because the camera doesn't lie, it just records what is happening. That is what they hate - their unlawful and abusive conduct caught for all to see. If you set up an easel and canvas outside of the MI6 building for 3 hours painting an artistic picture of it (Which is your Right to do) they wouldn't bat an eyelid. Within 5 minutes of setting up a camera on a tripod they would be all over you like a cheap suit.
This. In reality hostile reconnaissance wouldn’t make it so obvious what they’re doing. In fact they don’t need a camera at all, they could simply walk past and have a look. I've always wondered how many people have actually been charged(if it is an actual offence) and convicted of "Hostile Reconissance"?

When in reality they’ll be much more covert ways, you don’t even need a camera for reconnaissance. In fact a lot of the info can be got from Google Maps and it’s streetview.

Great video. It's actually quite shocking how wrong the police get it. U should take this with you on your Audits. Laminated and highlighted so if or when you are searched that's all they find. Telling them how wrong they are doing their job.

On the proofreading point, I agree with you. I was taught many, many years ago (yes, I'm that old!) that you never isolate a heading from the body of text nor do you carry the last line of a paragraph over to the next page (2 lines were the absolute minimum). These were called Widows and Orphans.

Excellent video which has beautifully articulated to me, despite the 2010 document, the need for corporate management remains to spoon feed officers on how they should interpret and exercise their powers when dealing with members of the public (who might be recording, so as not to embarrass the force). The simple existence of this guidance document is evidence simply by its existence of corporate management failure and demonstrates the sheer scale of rank and file officers who still wholly fail to understand the most basic policing concepts and legislation that underpins use of their powers.
Conlusion: If someone robbs you, always run to the nearest McDonalds. Plenty of cops there. Great video.

I wonder if you might consider something similar on the subject of how auditing may be affected by the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill? (Rejected by the house of lords 2 days ago, I might add.) I'm unsure of what effect it might have, if it were to pass into law. I'm fairly sure we'd all love to hear your thoughts. :)

The thing is they don't "find" terrorists by stopping and searching they recruit them at worst and let them do what they do to "catch them in the act" 🤔 at best..... They've all been "known" to the authorities that need to know
What I have come to realise is that yes there are some police who are actually completely ignorant of the law. However, there are many more who do know that photography is not a crime, but engage anyway, because it's a kind of power game. The real intention is simply to assert authority over a member of the public.
Seems like a fairly useful document for an auditor to keep on them, especially if it was found on them during a S43 search or detainment...

Most of this advice should be applied to ANY interactions with ANY member of the public.
Reading between the lines they're just saying if a member of the public has a camera, treat them like a human being. If they don't then it's business as usual.

Because the camera doesn't lie, it just records what is happening. That is what they hate - their unlawful and abusive conduct caught for all to see. If you set up an easel and canvas outside of the MI6 building for 3 hours painting an artistic picture of it (Which is your Right to do) they wouldn't bat an eyelid. Within 5 minutes of setting up a camera on a tripod they would be all over you like a cheap suit.
This. In reality hostile reconnaissance wouldn’t make it so obvious what they’re doing. In fact they don’t need a camera at all, they could simply walk past and have a look. Now you don’t even have to leave your home! You can see everything on Google Maps and it’s streetview
