The team at Reiza recently released a historic 1983 version of Mt Panorama, Bathurst for Automobilista two. This version does away with pretty much every safety measure present at the circuit today, as well as almost doubling the length of Conrod Straight, so I thought it would be really interesting to see what it would be like in a modern GT3 car!

They nailed the environment details. The lighting, the hazy distance, the colors of Summer - all just what I would imagine it would be.
I did do a bit of tweaking in post to emphasize it, but yeah they nailed the 80s vibe.
Fairly accurate. The unforgiving track conditions are almost all there for that time, but the hump after the cutting is a disappointment. AMS2 is brilliant. 😊

The rollcage/car parts are new to me and absolutely looks bout close to real as can get 🤩 Maybe could use one large slightly curved monitor for windshield and then two smaller flatscreens for the side windows

As a fellow 80s/90s kid (Born in 1981) I always tell myself "Oh that wasn't long ago" then I realize it's almost 40 years ago..ugh. Heck, I still think the early 2000s and 2010s were just a couple of years ago, lol.
Anyways, great video, I enjoyed hearing the commentary about a lot of the old sponsors there. It's very cool to see and learn about that as someone from the US.
It took me until 4:10 to fully realize that this is a sim-racing setup 😂. The way you were moving your hands and pointing things out convinced me it was real at first.

Re James Hardie and asbestos. There was a JH factory just a kilometer from where I lived. They just left tailings out the back of the factory for decades.
My younger brother went and played in the asbestos rubbish, made igloos with the sheets that were in the open. He's 60 now, with no issues. Incredible (I'm 62).
Yes, a big class actilon. My local area was known to have a VERY high incidence of the asbestos-related lung disease. RIP those people and families affected.
The Bathurst race was called the James Hardie 1000 for years.
From what I understand it’s generally only dangerous if you break it apart.

The 70s and 80s were a very special time in Aussie Motorsport. Would love to see you do more AMS2 at this track.

Rover mowers were a different company to Rover the car manufacturer. I used to work for Rover mowers in Eagle Farm, Queensland in the 90s and the mowers used Briggs & Stratton engines.
I shifted from Iracing to AMS 2. Loving it. Cheaper too 😊

The circuit is a public road when there's no racing, so you can drive around it yourself in a road car too, I did it once!
Made it to the mountain from the states for the 1000 a couple weeks ago. Absolutely unreal. What a beautiful place and a Motorsport Mecca!

I tried the GT3 911 there but as per previous post the M3 is a ripper, very pointy & loose & one handed slides are fun with the H pattern gearshift AMS2 is great my other go too is ACC GT3 911 @ Bathurst but the 83 track is my favorite

Just a little correction this years 12hr at Bathurst the lap record was broken in qualifying by maro Engel in a Mercedes and done a 2:00.8819s
Yeah that’s why I said race record in the popup. Only cpu ting laps done under race conditions. Engel’s lap was incredible.

Bathurst 6 Hour is on Sunday, sadly the 24h doesn't exist anymore but the 12 hour still does and is very entertaining to watch

Yeah I was having a look and it was really interesting to see that. They used to have ads everywhere in the 80s and 90s and you don’t see them anywhere anymore at least where I live. I guess they just don’t need mainstream advertising.
