The rabbit hole is deep with this band. You should listen it in order so you can hear how this band evolved. The album of ok computer was one of the most music chaining albums in the 90s. They created a new sound. And you can still hear other bands where influenced by their music. Like Coldplay, Muse etc. Enjoy the music ride
Exit Music was written for the Leonardo DiCaprio film Romeo and Juliet. Thome was shown the film before writing it. It played at the end of the movie. Sorry. Wrote this while watching and didn't realize someone already answered. I cry almost every time I hear it.
Just listening to the words and music, I always thought this was about escaping an abusive relationship. A woman, taking the children in the night and escaping her violent (implied), abusive, husband/partner. Listen FFS. Romeo and Juliet are not the subject matter.
@timholder6825 I thought the same thing, at first. Then my interpretation shifted, since it sounds like they die in the end of the song just to spite whoever they are running from: Sing us a song, a song to keep us warm. There's such a chill, such a chill. (Possibly bleeding out?) And you can laugh a spineless laugh. We hope your rules and wisdom choke you. (More apt for parents rather than partner.) Now we are one in everlasting peace. (Escape isn't an everlasting peace because they'd always be looking over their shoulders. However, death is everlasting.) We hope that you choke, that you choke. (Middle finger raised as their eyes close.) At least that's how I interpret it.
I very literally saw this, before I saw your comment, and said "Oh Hell Yeah". Am I proud to be nestled well within the normal curve? Yeah whatever I don't give a shit. This video is good
I listened to Ok Computer when it was first released. I was into indy rock, post rock, math rock, grunge, and experimental rock/jazz/fusion at the time. So I knew music could be different than the popular music of the time and prior. This album blew my f***** mind. This sound never existed in any format prior to them, IMO. True artists, geniuses. These guys are up there with Tool, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis, Beach Boys, and Slint as innovators of their time far as I am concerned. Dark Side of the Moon/Pet Sounds level.
"a chemical reaction. One day i am gonna grow wings". It sends me to some catharsis every time. Its like the spell to be said to release the valve. Goofy type shit, but it just gets to me. That line alone.
Love to see you covering radioheads discog. Each album is a unique step in the Radiohead journey. Take your time with it and reflect as you go trust me it will be a life changing experience.
Radiohead becomes a genre unto themselves after this album but this would still be considered in the rock genre somewhere (art-rock is a good description) but not classic rock or anything like that. Radiohead is my generations Beatles in my opinion, no one sounds like them even though they mess with so many genres they won't ever sound like anyone else. The only other band I would say that about is The Beatles and both bands evolution is very similar from more basic rock all the way to songs with only strings and obtuse arrangements and all kinds of experimental stuff and instruments. It's a lot of fun listening to a band like Radiohead because they so often defy your expectations in a very cool way and that's hard to find in popular music.
If you keep doing more Radiohead reactions (which I hope you do), you’ll find yourself having a hard time defining them to a single genre. OK Computer was more alternative rock/art rock, but some of their other work becomes a bit more jazzy and rhythm driven. Kid A is the album that came out after OK Computer, and so now you can imagine what fans thought when going from OK Computer to Kid A. It was the greatest left turn in music history. On a side note, yes Exit Music (for a Film) was written for Romeo + Juliet which starred Leonardo DiCaprio in 1996. The lyrics lend themselves to the story of Romeo and Juliet. Can’t wait for part 2!
Really enjoyed your Kid A reaction - mainly because I thought heres a guy who will enjoy their entire discography. I mean Im an old man who got them all as they came out and I struggled to get my head around their complexity but I do love every album. Id suggest go backwards and forwards with them - do Amnesia next then The Bends then Hail to the Thief and so on Their worst album is better than most band's best
All their albums are great excepting Pablo honey the 1st. Which Is OK Radiohead lol. Just keep on from amnesiac to hail 2 the thief, in rainbows and the last 2. Then circle back for the bends and end with Pablo.
Then hit steely Dan and then classic prog Rock from 1969 fwd. Fairport convention - liege and leaf King crimson in the court of the crimson king Yes the yes album Genesis trespass And away you go!❤
I recommend you check out I can’t eat nearly as much as I want to vomit by Shutups. If you’re enjoying that sorta experimental rock vibe I’m sure you’ll like it. It’s a modern hidden gem.

Let down is their best song overall on their best album.
Subbed. Do Amnesiac next!

Don't heart every comment (FFS don't heart this).
