My first year of listening to albums! I've gotten through a total of 113 albums and really enjoyed it. Mostly, I've focused on a bunch of classics and 'must-listens' from previous years, but I've also tried to listen to every yellow flannel album to keep up with the year. I'm incredibly excited to compare these lists with mine :))
My top ten: 1. Imaginal Disk 2. Clancy 3. I Lay Down My Life For You 4. Hit Me Hard And Soft 5. SMILE! :D 6. Chromakopia 7. GNX 8. Prelude to Ecstasy 9. Bando Stone and the New World 10. Mahashmashana Honorable mentions: Arcane Soundtrack, Brat, Romance
My Top 10: 1. Only God Was Above Us - Vampire Weekend 2. Heavy Metal - Cameron Winter 3. Imaginal Disk - Magdalena Bay 4. BRAT - Charli xcx 5. Manning Fireworks - MJ Lenderman 6. Sky Hundred - Parannoul 7. Chromakopia - Tyler, The Creator 8. Samurai - Lupe Fiasco 9. Bright Future - Adrianne Lenker 10. Great honorable mentions! However I disagree with some of your statements regarding songs of a lost world. I think the instrumentals and production really complements and elevates the whole project and by the start of Endsong I’m left in tears every time. They really outdid themselves and I had zero expectations from them. Glad they are back!
My personal favourite album of 2024 was Hyperdrama since it serves as a near perfect blend of the glossier music seen in Woman and the hard hitting electro house style seen in Cross. And whilst the second act does have moments that I’m unsure about (I don’t really enjoy Saturnine all that much), I think the first half is extremely good and Neverender ranks as one of the best Justice tracks of all time imo.
It slows down after Mannequin Love, but even its lows are extremely well polished (except the vocals on Explorer, if not that this would be a solid 9). If they threw a live edit of Afterimage and kept going with it, it would tear the electronic music scene this year. Nevertheless, a top 3 album form me. P. s. I love Brat, but I REALLY hope they'll get those grammys, both for Hyperdrama and Neverender.
Ehhh, was one my bigger disappointments of the year frankly. The drums (drum machine patches?)) sound so thin and plain and everything is too restrained to really grab my attention. Three misses in a row now, disappointing to say the least

Romance is their weakest album, but it was essential for them to make it to garner a younger audience and detract the “6Music Dads” (which their fanbase was quite synonymous with previously).
The New Sound by Geordie Greep has been my favorite new album to come out this year. The lyrics are incredible (and insane at some points), the vocal cadences are extremely odd and yet fit perfectly over the instrumentation, and the instrumental arrangements across the entire album are the perfect mix of so many different elements that I love about rock, jazz, fusion, and more. And the fact that he was 24 or younger when that album was written and recorded speaks volumes to his incredible skill, talent, and mind for music. The New Sound has made Greep the musical artist that I am most excited to follow the career of. Vitreseptome by Mitochondrion is also right up there. Genuinely one of the greatest extreme metal albums I’ve ever heard in my life. Gritty and organic, yet technical, with dark psychedelic atmospheres that I’ve never heard before in death metal.

the jean Dawson record really rocks
It really does
5:52 If you like Nia Archives - I definitely recommend Willow Kayne as well 😊 also from the UK - does dnb and electro-pop type stuff but has her own unique sound too
For me The Smile - CutOuts best album of 2024.
He didn't like it very much unfortunately
@@spand9043 i disagree with his score, for me its much better than Wall of Eyes.
I'm really surprised with the Cure only being an Honorable mention. This is my #2. My #3 is Chelsea Wolfe and #1 is Kendrick Lamar. I'm expecting these to at least being in your top 10.
What does The Warning have to do? How much better does their writing and music need to get for them to even be mentioned.
Hit me hard and soft is a top 3 album of 2024
Yeat in Top 50 confirmed. Let’s go
Good to see Opeth's The Last Will and Testament get a mention.
AOTY by literally miles
Billie not in the top 50 is crazy
idk it wasn't that good imo, very slow
It had great tracks but was inconsistent
Agree her best album ever, with some of her best written songs. In my top 10
Loved it too
Ok but it would be a really sweet gift in these times of giving, if you put Monarch of Monsters as your #1 album of the year. Thanks, Melon... I knew I could count on you :)
Nia Archives and Arooj Aftab for sure making my top 50's, but happy to atleast see them in your honorable mentions
How did doechii not make the top 50??!?
songs not long enough
So many amazing records this year all of these albums couldve easily been top 50 any other year
Dorchii is easily top 10 for me
it's his personal* list so even an acclaimed trash album can top it
the tape was a little disappointing for her standards tbh
Godspeed number 1 on the top list is my prediction
There is no way it’s not Brat lol
His is gonna be brat
I think it'll be close but Brat is literally a 10 for him sooo
How did the Smile album not make his top 50?
By him thinking less of it than when he reviewed it almost a year ago, I'd assume.
With Love From A Padded Room by Crippling Alcoholism is definitely AOTY for me. And I’ve listened to all these albums ⬆️. The album deserves more exposure !
Melon's radio silence on the new Opeth album is worrying me. It's like he saw Twitch chat's dimwitted reaction to §3 and he subsequently forgot they existed.
austin based with the bladee pick that is the true aoty only real drainstars understand
Where's Cameron Winter? 😢😢😢 Heavy Metal so snubbed
roy blair - chasing moving trains
Porter made it on the list, Porter made it on the list, Porter made it on the list, Porter made it on the list, Porter made it on the list, Porter made it on the list.
CHEEEEEERLEEEEAAAADDEEEERRRR
justice for JUSTICE
literally HMHAS is the best 2024 album...
For many years to come 🎉 cheers everyone ❤
Lets goo almighty so 2 gon be #1 album of the year 🔥🔥
If Mag Bay isn't on the AOTY list, I'll do it this time
He loved it. It obviously will be.
im genuinely so excited for list week every year
Shout out to Man Man, The Marias and Personal Trainer all dropping solid albums this year.
Great content as always.
thanks for showing me Hyperdrama, im loving it
Good to have it confirmed that the Silly Silky mixtape will end up on your final list.
Nice list Melon, but can you please review the Camron winter album? I need to know how to feel about it.
Justice for Nia archives
Good to see Fat Dog on here. One of the best new bands I’ve seen to come out in a long time
I made my best-of list...Top 100 with 25 runnerups...but right now im in the middle of my deep dive in the best boxset of the year...the downright massive 19CD box of Laura Nyro's career on Madfish "Hear My Song: 1966-1995"...
I went to see Fat Dog after your review. Awesome performance.
The new sturgill simpson/ johnny blue skies definitely deserves a slot in the top 50, but it never got a review
Poppy not making it is crazy
Seeing as I disagree with almost all your opinions, these records will prob. be my favorite.😅
