On Google Earth I located the ancient ruin of an abandoned gold miner's cabin in the harsh and desolate canyonlands of the American southwest.

Geologist here. I'd be very surprised is that were a "gold miner's cabin". The brightly colored beds are most likely Chinle Fm. Cliffs above Moenave, The Kayenta and Navajo Sandstone are in the background. Gold has never been reported from any of these units, or from the formations below or above. Uranium was recovered from the Chinle and a bit from the Moenkoepi and Dakota Formations, but that wasn't until the 1950s. My guess, considering its setting, the cabin was built by a grazer running sheep or goats.
    Thanks for the great trip.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge... great to hear from a geologist! I wonder if maybe back in the early 1900's they simply didn't know what we know today, which explains his attempt and failure - it might seem illogical and futile to us today, but back then maybe to him back then it seemed like a possibility, especially when some "gold fever" was mixed into it?

Great video. You've done a great job on this one. Even the part about your socks, the ant hill, and the dead lizard was cool. Every bit of this video was inspiring.

I'd like to bring more of what people like going forward... what aspect did you like most about this? The story of it the cabin? The tie-in with locating it on Google Earth? Something else? Thanks for the feedback!

@@LifeInATinCan it would be awesome if you showed us how you used Google Earth to locate the spot. I loved the tie-in, the history, the hike... You might want to wash those socks out every time you're near water. The desert is dirty. ;-)

@@PulpParadise I learned my lesson on the socks - you're right, you have to keep on top of that desert dirt! Thanks for the video input, stay tuned!

That's a perfect meal my friend. Nothing wrong with beans and rice. That's what is served for most Mexican meals. It's a perfect protein. Easy to digest and it even tastes good.

Thanks, I agree. I really developed a love of beans and rice while in Colombia eating bandeja paisa.
