Bobby Orr, Mario Lemieux, and Wayne Gretzky. That's it. That's the list of players in the NHL who have EVER reached 100 assists in a season. But this year, Connor McDavid is looking to join that list & we break down how his game has evolved within the Oilers system to allow him to come this close.

And the 92-93 season he missed a ton of time but scored 50 points in the last 15 regular season games. Insane numbers. Ovechkin might pass him in goals, but nobody is even close to his assists or total points. Mackinnon just got 2nd most home points. McDavid is closing on other records.
It is still just insane that all of these records are held by Gretzky and in the future there will be 100 different players each with one of gretzkys records.

@@trenholmmacdonell4385Just say you dont watch hockey bud... go look at mcdavids stats in the playoffs and tell me he cant overcome the physical play in the playoffs lol He is one of the hardest players in the league to move off the puck.. stop hating and saying dumb things to make yourself feel better lol

@@showjax he’s a baby I feel fine how about you. Players who complain 24/7 n look to reffs for calls are not playoffs players regardless of the points no one cares about points espiecially in playoffs. Also I’m not your bud guy. I played jr. Played against stamkos and played with bagosian. I deff know a lot more then you think try not to be to offended that the best players in world win cups don’t cry n take hits without causing a line brawl everytime he’s a puss it plain n simple also clear.

Oilers fan. I hear something like this every week and I don’t care anymore. I want the team to win something. I suspect 97 feels the same way.

I think you failed to mention Mario Lemieux missing 2 months in 1993 with cancer and was 20 points behind LaFontaine. He came back after going through cancer treatment and won the scoring title by a lot. If he played a full season he would have broke Gretzky's record. I think that was a hell of a lot more impressive than McDavid's season this season.

McDavid is indeed some kind of player but even he can get blanked as he did recently when the Oilcans faced the Stars.
Why would someone with that level of mobility and talent remain stationary in any situation much less the PP. His speed, transitional quickness, vision, creativeness, and all that goes with those skills simply kills. The Oilcans have enough other talent to make it more difficult for other teams to shut McDavid down and with him the Oilcans. He may go blank now and again [who doesn't], but the chances of that happening throughout a series is nil to none.
