As I understand it, the specialised/engineered equipment fitted to this ship can only be used on this ship, so you can't get this and then decide to swap parts out to another ship. gotta say though it looks nice and passive makes using the sco much easier.
Indeed: modules in pre-builds cannot be stored, nor can they be replaced with modules you already have in storage. Replacing a component in a pre-build means going into outfitting and buying a module with credits that replaces whatever was in the slot.
Gee, a reskinned python, what a revolutionary and groundbreaking new addition to the game. Something we’ve truly been waiting for. It brings a single solitary tear to my eye.
That SC boost would be good for miners ( if mining is still even a thing) coming back to drop off their haul. Less time in open space less chance to be interdicted.
3:50 Most people, myself included, elect to go to Jameson Memorial station in the Shinrarta Dezhra system. It basically stocks everything you can purchase and outfit in the game and it's not so far from Sol or the new player starting areas either. If being able to buy everything at one station isn't saving on time then idk what is. The only downside to going to Jameson Memorial is that due to increased player traffic it also gets a marked increase in the number of gankings.
The super cruise overcharge is so much fun. Once I figured out how to actually activate it I had a blast. It was nice getting to prospectors rest in like 10 seconds
Couple of points with pre-builds: components cannot be stored; components cannot be replaced with modules from storage, only with modules bought new in refitting. Those modules bought new in refitting can then be stored and used as usual, though.
I have to say, Im digging the design of it. It doesnt look like an Elite ship at all. And I mean that in a good way. Most Elite ships look like theyre much smaller than they actually are, with the individual pieces theyre made out of being incredibly huge. This one has a very smooth exterior made up of lots of little panels like you would expect. It just looks more "realistic", for lack of a better word. It just fits its size much more than many others.
Don't forget the feature they hinted at with the mk II is that it has a passive that allows it have greater stability while using the SCO so it is more controllable than standard ships
Do you have the option to change out the red colored Pre-built Python to other colors? Also can you customize engine color, add decals, switch or change ship kits...etc?
Your last 3 videos are about Starfield, KSP 2 and now Elite: Dangerous. I don't know how you can handle such depressing topics one right after another like this.
I have a feeling there'll be many more to come, they're just testing the waters and see how much of a success this would be 😀 (to be fair the boost in super cruise is a nice touch) 👌🏻
So basically a cash shop ship becomes the starting sidewinder/ not paying the insurance sidewinder. Also - the MK 2 looks to have 4 Large and 2 Medium Hardpoints
4 large, 2 medium, and 6 utility mounts like the Mamba and FDL... Paired with the Python's core and optional module sizes (if they are the same) this is one freaking beast of a ship.
@@ninthkind Are the core internals the same at least? The Size 7 powerplant was the main appeal to both the Python and the Krait MkII, it's bigger than what the FDL or Mamba could mount, and that meant we could get away with an Armored instead of Overcharged (ran much cooler and was much harder to kill) on a full multicannon, frag or phased pulse build. I also wonder what the hardpoint convergence is, because the possibility of mounting 4 Pacifier Frag Cannons + 2x size 2 fixed frags, or 4x size 3 plasma+ 2x size 2 railgun setup, is now on the table. And I wanna see the burst damage the quad doubleshot Pacifiers can do... or what 4x size 3 Guardian Shards can do to an Interceptor.

4000 commanders on Inara (2%) have the Python Mark 2. So, that's $60k or so just from players who actually use Inara and have synced their save recently. The Type 8 should generate a lot more, I'm guessing, because it'll be the highest-capacity medium ship in the game.
I'm excited to see what they do with Elite... but at the same time I'm hesitant to even try to get back into it with all the missteps they've made in recent years. I've purchased, for cash, quite a few things in the shop over the years... paints and trinkets and whatnot, but once they made it impossible to PLAY without the mind-numbing GRIND to just fly your very expensive ships around... I stopped playing entirely. Playing for 20 hours to recoup the insurance cost for losing one of my BIG ships because payouts were so abysmal... That was the end of it. It's like advertising, I simply said NO MORE and moved on. That was shortly after the whole "Thargoid" thread began when they just said "F YOU, GRIND!" ... So, now I'll wait and see, as I have for years... I don't know if they can ever recover enough to make it worth my time at this point, with Star Citizen advancing so quickly... I'm afraid, in Elite's case... it's just going to be too little, too late. But who knows? Maybe they can make it fun again. We'll see.

Thank you for sharing. Thats a medium size ship with 4 large and 2 medium hard points, isn't that a lot of a firepower for a medium ship? And 6 utility slots?, thats insane, for a medium size ship (other than mamba and FDL). I guess the class 6 power plant do limit the amount of options to use in HP and Uility slots.
Can you strip the prebuilt ship of modules (store them), self-destruct, then redeploy to get a new set of free modules? Then you just distribute those free modules to the rest of your fleet to get any special effects/engineering and reduce rebuy cost across the board. This is possible right now with the starting sidewinder, but its modules aren't really worth enough to justify the effort.
Modules in pre-build ships cannot be stored or replaced with items from your storage. You can buy a module in refitting with credits that replaces a selected module in the the pre-build and that bought item can then be stored etc. as usual.
I have just installed Odyssey and have no idea what the hell I’m doing. No idea how to pull up my stats or see the active mission, no idea how to get a rental ride back from an outpost when I take one there to collect a package. You don’t seem to get a ship when you start the game, it’s completely impenetrable to a new player, I have no clue how I’m supposed to even start getting into the game..
The moment they abandoned consoles I was well aware that the game would go downhill support wise for selecting to cut communities that easily. It's unfortunate really as this was the first and only game of this type that I both loved playing endlessly and enjoyed so much exploring.. What a bummer.. And no alternatives on console and im lazy to play this much on my PC damn it. I'm too old for that.
SCO drive is available for since a few weeks. Class C only so jump range is pants. Not engineerable but that will change soon. It creates a lot of heat whilst this Mk2 seems not to
2:04 thank you for the conversion prices, I never have and given the state of the game, never will touch the ED cash-shop beyond claiming free-items (if that). Typical cash-shop nonsense 16000 for the basic version remarkably fits within the £8.50 range but the 33000 "fancy" version forces you to up-sell into the £25 space-bux purchase. Predatory pricing at it's most typical.
Are you referring to the pre built ships? It's to give new players an easier start. The Python Mk II will be free in August, it's just early access what you pay for.
Cause they need to do "something" to keep at least some players that p2w soon. Re-skinning an existing ship is perfect, low effort and "high interest" at least for those people who still think frontier is going somewhere with ED.
Looks like the marketing plan is to give new players a leg up into the game - to someone fresh in a 32,000 credit Sidewinder, 50 million credits for a hull likely looks daunting; and perhaps to lure established players into investigating careers they've never tried through a bit of novelty, as with the mining starter.
I assume you can engineer the pre-losded modules e.g. shield boosters but then wont be able to transfer them to other ships. Also an interesting change of the rebuy mechanic
How do you get an SCO drive for the other ships!? I got all of those paid ones to support the devs, but I'm finding that Python a bit inconvenient for my purposes (exploration).
To revive ED, much more will be needed than a 'new' ship. WHY? simple: The new ship will get old fast (less than a week) because the gameplay loop (at least to those who are familiar with it) has not only become a grind, but dull as well. What ED should have done is hire 2 interior designers, 2 content creators and 2 animation experts. - The interior designers create the new interiors, ya know those that were promised but never delivered, providing for new ways to interact with your ship (smuggling, trading, trafficking etc) fleshing it out so to speak. Same needs to happen to the spacestations (engineering section, brig, trade docks, recreation sector, medical sector, scrapyard, hydroponics etc... ) - The content creators should focus on making the PVE interactions during missions less of a UI affair and more of an on foot experience. What I mean by that is that trade, smuggling, assassinations etc should not just be an 'accept mission' button on the UI, but a more fleshed out experience like the 'tutorial mission' that came with Odyssey. Speaking of Odyssey, 'Spacelegs' should not just be an Odyssey thing. Make sure that Commanders of ED and Horizons need to disembark to talk to certain contacts in the station's bar, (concourse) and the new sectors on the 3 large Spacestations. - The animation experts make the existing NPC characters the player interacts with on these new adventures behave less like robots, but more like real people. That would make ED 5 inches deeper at least, and incite me much more than just a 'new ship' playing the same old boring, dull and grindy missions that ED hasn't changed in 5 years.
God... how far the mighty have fallen. I remember being so invested in this game that a couple years ago, I was flying a type-7 out to a region attacked by thargoids to help rescue civilians, but ran out of fuel & needed to call the rats. The rat who came to help asked me what I was doing & I told him, and iirc he commended me for my courage & wanting to help people. Genuinely never been so immersed in a game before in my life... But ever since Odyssey dropped, I couldn't care less about ED. Sad, really...
No if you unlock it you get it right away, and can buy as many more as you like with credits in-game. In August everyone playing Odyssey can buy it with credits in game.
I havent really played the game in years, I was grinding deep core mining to get credits to build a exploraconda and set off, when mining was nerfed hard. I might consider playing again if a decent exploring ship is a reasonable price
If you pay for the early access ship (available from 7th May, I believe) You'll only have to rebuy any additional modules and module upgrades you put onto the ship. Rebuy won't include the cost of the ship itself and any of the modules that come fitted as standard. (Similar to the free beginner sidewinder, I guess) So if you keep it as it is when you got it and don't change any of the modules, it will have no rebuy cost... but it'll also be a basic version of a ship.
I swear, the abysmal quality of Frontier's releases over the last few years, makes me wonder if Braben just lost any personal drive in the company well before his exit as ceo in 2022.
Honestly, I think I have arrived at a point where I ... do not think very highly of the Status-Q Frontier ... (to put it EXTREMELY mildy) and yet ... simply seeing a new ship ... seeing the still so glorious Elite ... I cannot actually feel anything but awe. The TRUE Frontier is still somewhere burried underneath LAYERS and LAYERS of incomptetent new hires ... But Elite is still deep DEEP within the valley of guilt and the fact that they just added quite pure P2W does everything but help. But still ... l will keep watching.
I just purchased this ship and it was fully kitted out all modules filled in. No engineering on anything that i can tell. There is a 0 rebuy on the ship though if you use the modules given to you. The frameshift drive does have a comment on it but not sure what it means yet. "featuring experimental overcharge capabilities"
It's confusing on the loss compensation mechanic you mentioned in the video: they replace the ship for free on loss but is that ONLY with the original equipment provided at purchase, what about engineered items you add to the ship yourself???? I wonder if they even thought about that? LoL probably no........ figures!!!!!!!!
I use to love this game, but it got way ovrer complicated with it ships, purchases, and insurance. It became more of a drag to be looking for the right loophole to get the best deals on ships.
Very informative video, greatly appreciated. Was kinda wondering what it sounds like though. Also, no rebuy for ships bought with arx is definitely an interesting choice. It wouldn't make a lot of sense for them to have a rebuy, but it also kinda doesn't make sense for them NOT to have a rebuy, considering that's one of the penalties for death. I wonder what happens to ship components you personally add to the ship when you die. Is there an insurance rebuy then, or do you just get them all back for free? This may just be me, but I don't see myself reinstalling the game based on what we're seeing, but hopefully the powerplay rework will change that.
As someone who stopped playing a few years after the engineers were introduced, I'm surprised this is still going (well; sort of going). I got the original game on 5.25 floppy and it was one of two games that caused me to get an xbone (and even put up with the appalling netcode causing between 30 and 50% of jumps to end in DCs for what seemed like about a year). Suppose I should be glad that I left by my own choice before being ejected with the abandoning of consoles but it amazes me that Frontier had something with such potential, so much opportunity, and made it tedious. Still have a morbid curiosity in seeing how the game is doing but the tragic thing is that I have no desire to start playing the game again.
Hahahaha. I'd LOVE to see OA break the 4th wall doing that with White Dwarfs/Pulsars. Surfing the Pulsar freeway is about to enter the next dimension....
Not only have they locked a new ship behind a paywall, they've locked the A rated SCO drives behind it simultaneously? Also that optional internal slots for the new Python are abysmal.
@@Anoobvia The Python MKII is built to have lower heat and much less wobble when the SCO is engaged. The other ships, from what we currently know, will still have heat and wobble issues.
You have to ask yourself why you are you grinding in a game that cannot be played through. If they remove the grind and you get all that you want faster what will you do then? Play the same grind than before, but with maxed out ships i guess?
@@RuojisIt’s a fascinating and irritating game design problem that’s hard to solve. “Players will optimise the fun out of anything” is a phrase in the industry, so the goal is to make games that actively encourage non-grindy experiences, usually by tying progression to all aspects of the game, rather than any particular one. But that, in itself, requires a ton of balancing.

ok, I havent played ED in a bit, but i am paying attention to these prebuilt ships, so at best it the $10 pack for ARX, and at worst you need to buy the $25 ARX pack. Generally Im against games that suddenly change their monetization models, But for this specific game, i dont think its that bad, maybe im just used to checking in on Star Citizen and seeing ridiculous prices. The fact that you can only ever get the same modules that you bought on the prebuild ship still means the prebuild ships will never beat out the ship people grind for and have experience with.
$25 arx prebuilt also comes with a ship kit and paint job which - for any other ship - would cost more than $25. So if people thought of it as a paint job and ship kit with early access thrown in, maybe they wouldn't all get tangled up about P2W.
I played ED since 2013 and ended playing last year. Now they are taking money for bringing a new ship after 5 years. This is ridiculous. I guess i'll the next time i'll touch this game will be when we have ship interiors. Anyways, nice video dude. o7

Last time I had played (which is a long time ago to be sure) mining had been nerfed super hard. And my last mining trip I was in my Anaconda anyway.
The fact that you can pull away from a body so quickly with the SCO FSD is all I care about. For me, it'd golden.
Yes that looks very good. Being stuck in gravity well glue is just a game play pain.
Luckily you don't need a Pay2win Python mk2 for that.
The super cruise overcharge is so much fun. Once I figured out how to actually activate it I had a blast. It was nice getting to prospectors rest in like 10 seconds
i thought it came with a huge hardpoint also, did they change it to 4 large
Easily pleased?
That's literally one line of code. Two at most. What a "feature"

We'll see.

You can't give those modules to other ships.

How long does it take to do the Supercruise Overdrive to Hutton Orbital?
Python 2 looks very nice indeed! Enjoy
Less time than it takes to grind enough credits for an Anaconda
A new ship you have to pay money to use to do exactly what you could before. Why?
@@First_Chapter So they created a problem and then sell players the solution? Good that most people are not stupid enough to fall for such logic.

Same needs to happen to the spacestations (engineering section, brig, trade docks, recreation sector, medical sector, scrapyard, hydroponics etc... )
- The content creators should focus on making the PVE interactions during missions less of a UI affair and more of an on foot experience.
So if I purchase it I will receive it in August?
No if you unlock it you get it right away, and can buy as many more as you like with credits in-game.
In August everyone playing Odyssey can buy it with credits in game.
I havent really played the game in years, I was grinding deep core mining to get credits to build a exploraconda and set off, when mining was nerfed hard. I might consider playing again if a decent exploring ship is a reasonable price

I heard of a new ship. Of course yours was the only video I wanted to watch so thank you obsidianant from a long time fan
So can I fly with no buy?
Seems like it
In August, yes. I mean you'll still need in-game credits like any other ship, but no ARX/real money will be necessary.
If you pay for the early access ship (available from 7th May, I believe)
You'll only have to rebuy any additional modules and module upgrades you put onto the ship.
Rebuy won't include the cost of the ship itself and any of the modules that come fitted as standard.
(Similar to the free beginner sidewinder, I guess)
So if you keep it as it is when you got it and don't change any of the modules, it will have no rebuy cost... but it'll also be a basic version of a ship.
So A-rated SCO drives incoming ?
I swear, the abysmal quality of Frontier's releases over the last few years, makes me wonder if Braben just lost any personal drive in the company well before his exit as ceo in 2022.
He never had genuine personal drive since inception, all about money now
Honestly, I think I have arrived at a point where I ... do not think very highly of the Status-Q Frontier ... (to put it EXTREMELY mildy)
and yet ... simply seeing a new ship ... seeing the still so glorious Elite ...
A new ship? on my space game? im impressed
Honestly it resembles the gen 5+ from the movie Stealth then the darkstar.
All the SCO's size 2-7 and classes will be available May 7. Not locked behind a pay wall. Can only imagine where you heard that.
@@mojoxftn1526 So what's the point of the Python Mk2's special SCO ability then if all classes and sizes are readily available for all ships?
@@Anoobvia The Python MKII is built to have lower heat and much less wobble when the SCO is engaged. The other ships, from what we currently know, will still have heat and wobble issues.
The only pay wall is for early access to it.
When they’ve reduced the grind from insane to reasonable I might play again.
