+daniel rodriguez for me the p1 is the best car in the world right now. the fact that the acr was faster around that track is a true testament on how well the acr can perform. now that i have said that, the p1 is truly in its own league. as clarkson says. "its a game changer".
+Antwon Jenkins Understand that it has a comically large wing on the back in order for it to do so. Also understand that most of that aero package needs to be removed in order to drive it on the street.

Nah, she would hit you up if you're interested in her. but if you ain't driving the right way then she'll end the relationship as fast as ending your life.
+jon doe Even the 92's were SICK. A true supercar that took skill and effort to drive. And they were super fast.. pulling 12's and topping 170mph That is still stupid quick even 25 years later.
+jon doe They look a lot cooler now. It took years for Dodge to figure out how to make the rear end look cool. It used to look like the back of the Stealth.
a lot of clutch smoke :-) very good review motorweek. can you guys dedicate 10 to 20 seconds just on engine intake and exhaust noises while WOT revving for sports/sporty cars right before the 1/4 mile with no vocoals?
+Frank Burns Without the wing...it would just be a regular viper...The wing doesn't hurt the performance...most Viper's GTS/T/A run 11.4-11.6 @ 128mph. What would help is softening the rebound and raising the ACR...would help trasnfer the weight for lower ETs.
ACR Viper is Americas top track car and set 13 record last year, and that is the most ever by any model in automotive history. So now that the Dodge boys have got the number one and two top production street/strip monsters in the Hellcat and Demon, Mopar has got complete and total domination on blacktop period. I think that anybody who is into racing and performance in general should really appreciate what Mopar has done for the automotive world. These supercars are marvels and icons of technology blended together with brute power, and you just got to love that. Unless you are ether a conservationist, or just plain and simply envious you do that is.
Beautiful car. The C7 is beautiful too, but I didn't think so until I started seeing them in person; for some reason the pictures just don't do them justice.
+ASH27 Actually...all that downforce makes it easier to drive fast than a regular Viper. The motortrend video...the host said it was so glued to the road that it felt like a AWD WRX.
+JerseyMikeP... True my friend. But you still need skill and finesse to launch and control this vehicle around the track, drag strip, road course and street because of the 600 plus horsepower engine AND it being rear wheel drive. Good Day.
I feel the same way about Hellcats, but Vipers??? That's just the nature of the beast. This was a true super car. Hellcats are family cars or pony cars being made into super cars and being marketed as family racers. Don't get me wrong, I love 'em but I would never utilize a Charger Hellcat to it's full potential which is why I bought a new Charger R/T last year. If I was to buy a Viper, you damn well better believe I would find a way to put that car on the track to go racing in it.
I DO NOT like those random looking squares cut out of the front fenders. Surely, vents or something could've been put in that place so it doesn't look so cheap.
It was...it's just the under tray aerodynamics sucked the smoke under the car and it when out the back. The car lost traction after it when over the starting line.
Why does it have the regular metal X- brace, I thought the carbon fiber one was standard? I like that it's not the silver one everyone is showing, red looks better. I don't care for the stripe, twin racing stripes would look better. When is someone going to test the base ACR and not the extreme aero packaged one. 177 is for the high downforce optioned one. Really need to see the base ACR or the T/A 2.0 and how it runs and it's top speed. Base price is $118,795 NOT $123,490 that's with tax/destination fees??? I'd take a T/A 2.0, almost as much downforce with more comfort and a better ride...just need a set of ACR rims/tires.
+JerseyMikeP TA 2.0 not even close to the same downforce as the ACR. Less than half. Nice car though. Maybe a better combination of street/track for those who aren't as serious about tracking the car.
Yeah I think I was thinking about the base ACR not the T/A 2.0.when I said almost. From what i've found. T/A- 278 lbs T/A 2.0 - 460lbs ACR - 1,101 Etreme ACR -1,500+ @ 150mph.
The bad thing about this car is that it's literally only a race car on the street. Chevy offers more options for there ZO6 then this car but nonetheless is a great track car you can own
+Young Den The Viper T/A or T/A 2.0 is more comparable in comfort and performance to a Z06. The T/A 2.0 would be the one I'd would get, all the luxury of the GTS but with 90% of the ACR's performance. A T/A with Z06 tires is over 2 seconds faster around Laguna Seca than the Z06...So the T/A 2.0 would be even faster.
This car won the Targa Tasmania outright in slightly damp conditions in 2021. But wait there's more! This guy has gotta chance with the time's, the 80's are over. Whats the point of talking like your reading from a shitty script you wrote the night before.
Not fair! Stop the corvette production, keep the viper!! I don't care if you have to make a cheaper one to keep the brand alive. Viper tail lights beat the vette tail lights any day.
making a cheaper one would just shame the viper name and make it lose the viper spirit. to allow it to die with its honor intact like this they are giving it the possibility of rising up again someday. also the viper beats the corvette in every way, not just tail lights. no one cares about tail lights.
It's not the price that is causing the production to end...it's because it can't be easily fitted with side curtain airbags that are becoming mandatory. Here's an article about it. www.motortrend.com/news/the-dodge-viper-is-being-axed-because-it-cant-fit-curtain-airbags/ Also the fact that it doesn't have an automatic/DCT as an option limits sales. Most sportscars nowadays are sadly automatics. 68% of all vettes sold are automatics, Most Porsches and ALL Ferraris, Lambos, McLaren and GT-Rs. The seating position, heat/noise from the side exhaust are other reasons customers shy away. Dodge doesn't make a "soft" version for daily driving. I think it never could shack it's "Hard/deadly to drive" reputation of early vipers. The current ones are easier to drive fast than the C7 Z06. The cheapest/Lowest trim Viper posted a quicker time than the Nismo GT-R at Laguna Seca.
Wrong!! The ACR will beat the C7 Z06 by several seconds on any track/corse in the world..I love the C6ZR1, C6Z06, & C7Z06, but on any track this ACR is in another league. Don't take my word for it though. Take 30min & go research it for yourself
H Mack I am aware the Viper is in a whole other league on the racetrack but nobody takes their cars to the track. The ACR is a one trick pony. A track car and that is it. The Z06 is everything. It is a good track car and and an awesome, comfortable street car that you can enjoy on the street without getting beaten up.I would not want to drive the ACR on the street. Plus the Z06 is cheaper. For those reasons the Z06 is better. But that is just my opinion.
+ZL1Gimpelson it's not a " one trick pony ", nor is any 2013-16 Viper. I dare you to go test drive any 2013 Viper SRT, GTS, or T/A, then tell me if you couldn't drive it in the same conditions, & ways you can drive s Z06. Also, FYI the 13-16 vipers interior materials, seats, & infotainment system is better than the ones in the C6, & C7. The reason the viper coast more is because it is Americas ONLY! HAND BUILT!! PRODUCTION SUPER CAR!!!! It rare, & beyond sexy. They are worth every dime of their $110-$130k price tag. C6's, & C7's are great, but I will see 3 of them on the road a day. I might see 3 vipers on the road in a year! Vipers are Majestic, & incredibly unapologetically bad to the bone!
H Mack I was only talking about the ACR as one trick pony. All of the other Vipers could be driven even day. The Viper is a good car but I would still have a Corvette. In my opinion it looks better.
+zzzhuh I know, that sucks the world needs the insanity the Viper has to offer... The Hellcat is awesome but doesn't want to kill you like the Viper seems too.
+me3333 exactly and you're absolutely right. anything over 500hp is literally overkill for most people. and above that it's just bragging rights. there's a special breed of cost customers and there a bigger breed of hellcat customers so it just makes sense to drop the viper. sad but just plain market driven economics.
Tom Jones Yea, technology in cars has advanced a lot and maybe not for the best. Regular economy cars should be extremely easy to drive ect. But super cars should be a very direct, one on one kind of drive. But like you said, they pretty much drive themselves now a days...
+Tom Jones I'm American and all three of my vehicles are manually shifted and don't even have power steering. My wife, brother, parents, and parents in law all have manual cars as well. But for the most part, I agree Americans under the age of 40 tend to be pussies who can't handle shifting and don't even consider it as an option. The good news is, I don't have to worry about friends asking to take my car for a joy ride.
Look at all those cheap plastic winglets the "ricer" rear wing! Those ricers got it right on their civics all this time. Dodge is now just catching on eh.
+Kalashnikov Cortez All that "Plastic" is actually carbon Fiber...NOT some cheap Ricer Civic parts. And Honda's can't go fast enough for those parts to work anyway, LOL. The ACR winglest cost $495 for a set of 2. The only other car to have those winglets is the Koenigsegg One:0ne.
Actually GT-Rs are slow on the track compared to Most Supercars. The GT350R mustang beat the new 2017 GT-R's lap time @ Laguna Seca. And before you say Nurburgring...everyone knows the Nismo wasn't stock...Like most of the cars Nissan runs there. Laguna Seca lap times: 1. ACR Viper - 1:28.65 (track record) 2. Porsche 918 - 1:29.89 3. McLaren P1 - 1:30.71 4. C7 Z06 - 1:33.05 5. 991 GT3RS - 1:33.29 6. T/A Viper -1:33.62 7. C6 Zr-1 - 1:33.70 8. Old ACR - 1:33.92 9. Viper GTS - 1:34.23 , Audi R8 Plus - 1:34.23 11. C6 Z06 w/Z07 - 1:34.43 12. Mp4-12C - 1:34.50 13. Mclaren 570S - 1:34.58 14. SRT (Base) Viper - 1:34.63 15. SLS AMG Balck series - 1:35.03 16. AMG GT S - 1:35.30 17.Aventador (LP700-4)- 1:35.40 18. - 1:35.51 For comparison the 2017 565hp GT-R only ran a 1:37.08...slower than the 530hp and 550hp old GT-R models. GT-Rs are great 0
LOL...you love the car...and that's fine...but the ACR Rapes the 918 on the track let alone a slow ass Nismo. The GT-R is just like a Telsa...only great at 0
The British Radical would whoop the ass of this Yank Tank. What a crap engine, 8.4L, V10 and only 645bhp, that is pathetic but then again that is American automotive engineering for you...........Europe and Japan are light years ahead in the Supercar game......
Then why did this pathetic car whoop that ass on Laguna Seca if Europe and Japan are light years away it shouldn't have stood a chance. Go look at them lap times. The Radical? It looks like a soda can got stepped on and then someone threw some cheap LED's on the front. Doesn't Radical use Ford(American) motors???
Ummm do you not know anything? That car has the most torque of any naturally aspirated motor put in a car to date. More then any super car. Torque wins races. horsepower sells cars. Get educated
Once again. Look at a dyno sheet and say that. One of the nicest torque curves. EVER. It could make plenty more if it was tuned that way. It's detuned for warranty. Once again. The OLDER ACR smoked everything Europe and Japan had. Without electronic controls. Paddle shifters. Twin turbos. Or AWD. Dress that up anyway you want.
Cody Krause Of course the old ACR smoked everything in Europe and Japan that why it sits a lowly 7th on the Nurburgring lap record times whilst the Radical sits at the top. Jesus these Yanks are so arrogant, ignorant and delusional and know nothing about anything outside of the US.
this beat the McClaren P1 around leguna seca. real talk
+daniel rodriguez Let's slap a giant boy racer wing on the back of the P1 and let it have another go.
+cdangers The P1's track issue is not downforce, it's tire footprint. More mechanical grip on the P1 would be just the ticket.
+cdangers the p1 already has a massive wing, it creates over 800lbs of downforce on its own when deployed. Find a new excuse.
Hey but the extra $800,000 it costs isn't a issue now is it? 😂 lol
+daniel rodriguez for me the p1 is the best car in the world right now. the fact that the acr was faster around that track is a true testament on how well the acr can perform. now that i have said that, the p1 is truly in its own league. as clarkson says. "its a game changer".
Just wow..what an absolutely gorgeous car. I bet it feels ruthless behind the wheel!
+Cars Uncovered agreed this car is a beast one of the all time greats.
exactly my thought
Cars Uncovered Yeah it costs more than the C7 corvette but....SHUT THE FUCK UP THE CORVETTE'S FASTER TOO LMFAO
Manzanita Sol the Corvette is faster because there is so much downforce on the ACR that is is slowed down a lot compared to he normal Viper
Manzanita Sol you’re pathetic
"General Badassery..." MotorWeek sounds pretty excited, lol
if I win a lottery this would be my top list since I see Corvette's , gtr, and Lamborghini's pretty much everywhere
+Sterling Archer
And it's not a pussy automatic like the modern GTR's and Lambos
RetroMMA oh I live in Vancouver BC Canada I see 458 and all of those fancy common cars but only a few Dodge vipers
+Sterling Archer
Don't you mean a purple 1970 Challenger, or maybe a mid '70s Trans Am?
Sterling Archer you instantly get the best person of the year award
And you can park it on the street and not worry about it getting stolen! (Because of the manual)
4:00 "bad ass er ry" love it. John Davis is and has been awesome since 1982!
MotorWeek diggin the new video editing, very fitting for the bold and aggressive Viper ACR!!!
Come on lotto numbers!!
That orange is brilliant on this Viper.
Europeans be like "bububu its American! Jeremy Clarkson told me that American cars can only go in a straight line!"
+Antwon Jenkins Understand that it has a comically large wing on the back in order for it to do so. Also understand that most of that aero package needs to be removed in order to drive it on the street.
cdangers Also understand that even the Normal Viper has grip for days. This is overkill.
+Antwon Jenkins , even Clarkson praised the Viper, thus shutting his obnoxious trap and giving him a serving of Humble Pie.
Take away that wing and this car is nothing more than a faster than average ugly, unrefined and impractical mess.
+Pax Humana what he said is mostly true. A majority of american cars only started to handle really well coming 2000s
Those cut-outs in the fenders are pretty insane!
Oh my God they killed that clutch at 3:10 and 5:35
Why does this guy sound like a recording from 1996 motortrend?..
Looks really good in the red.
Without Question the 16 ACR is the most important, & the most capable production American Supercar EVER!! For $130k it will embarrass Supercars costing $300-$500k on any track in the world! That's not my opinion, that's a FACT. Keep track of the lap times it will run all over the world, & you will see what I mean.
+Peder Hansen are you high?? The 918 is Fucking 900+hp $1mil+ HYPER CAR!!!!! use your fucking brain
+Peder Hansen I can't believe you're this damn ridiculous
+Peder Hansen That's one review. Not the mention the Viper ACR has gone faster around certain tracks than the 918.
+Peder Hansen the acr beat it at laguna Seca by 3 seconds I believe.
+Peder Hansen I enjoyed the Bangin' Gears episode, but it is nowhere unbiased. Check official lap times for an unbiased opinion.
I just heard John Davis say "Bad-assery." My life is complete
" the aero is easily removable" - *has a team of five people from SRT to re-attach front splitter* yea sure thing buddy.
lol it's probably easily removable for real.
+ray britton Sure just one speed bump would probably take off the front splitter in milliseconds lol
+justin bouche
Team was there to set the car up. Ralph talked about it before. Amateurs he said can mess up the performance due to the highly adjustable aero and coil-overs.
dobbins2550 *smh*
+me3333
See, it's easily removable! lol
Twin turbo it and then pray to whatever God you believe in..
Turbos are cool but can't match the NA feel..
Those cut-outs in the fenders are pretty insane!
pinnacle of it all ...... wow!
That clutch smoke on that launch though lol
Wow, the Viper is like the girl I want but doesn't even notice me.
😂
Nah, she would hit you up if you're interested in her.
but if you ain't driving the right way then she'll end the relationship as fast as ending your life.
Great review! your script really conveys the madness of such a car!
Never gets old watching the same Viper reviews year after year, until I own one.
Wow... These cars sure have come along way since the first gen
+jon doe
Even the 92's were SICK. A true supercar that took skill and effort to drive. And they were super fast.. pulling 12's and topping 170mph That is still stupid quick even 25 years later.

Most beautiful car on the earth!
I'm a mopar fan, but I also like the comp between the big three. Would be cool to see it against the z06 and current ford gt! Get your motor running!
God dammit. What an aggressive-looking, beautiful car. The best-lookin' Viper yet, imo.
Merica BABY!!!!! Love it!!!
Lol
My pfp and I love this so much
a lot of clutch smoke :-) very good review motorweek. can you guys dedicate 10 to 20 seconds just on engine intake and exhaust noises while WOT revving for sports/sporty cars right before the 1/4 mile with no vocoals?
Amazing! Beautiful car! I got similar look, but Victor racing wing.
I hope there is another viper 2020’s
I bet without that wing, it would be around 11 flat in the quarter, and 3.0 0-60. "Bad assery" indeed!
Do you think that if you adjusted the wing to produce the least amount of down force the viper could crack 200 mph?
R.I.P. Viper 1992-2017
ACR Viper is Americas top track car and set 13 record last year, and that is the most ever by any model in automotive history. I want this car, only for weekends and track days and no other
BADASSERY!!!
That is a seriously big wing XD
to be able to own that beast
What?!?! No cupholders?!?!
Beautiful car. The C7 is beautiful too, but I didn't think so until I started seeing them in person; for some reason the pictures just don't do them justice.
This is my favourite. G'Day DODGE VIPER mates..😆👍
So heartbreaking that this is the last Viper ever and in the future it will be very rare and expensive
Production is ending next year? Nooooo. Its like reading about the death of Superman or Captain America. Devestated.
+goodfella21f its not..
Pause @ 44 seconds WTF! Could they make that hole any bigger!?!?!?
+Kaiser the lovers are removable in that hole for the track.
Maybe nothing new... Maybe not a big deal, but SIX lugnuts?! Beastly!
What does it run at RR?
COOL MotorWeek | Road Test: 2016 Dodge Viper ACR
He said badassery😎
I feel like a deep maroon red would be more fitting on the Viper.
LoL love the Pike Place reference!
the Neil is real!!!
That's not tire smoke, thats clutch!
I can't believe they're going to stop making Vipers. Does that mean Dodge is going to cease production, or is SRT going to continue producing them?
+Agownsrs2 i think there going to build a new generation..
Mehran M hopefully they don't completely ruin the design. I have faith in them. They all look amazing since '92.
Production will cease.. If u want a brand new Viper out the factory u will need to get one til the end of 2017 at the latest :( rip Dodge.
I would daily drive this thing like you wouldn't believe
"But like most friends, there's also a dark side"? Really?? What kind of friends do you have, Motorweek? o.0
this would be my daily if I was right as fuck bc yes
Gorgeoussssss and venomoussssss
What EVERY Japanese car dreams about being.
The car is gorgeous but what's with the hole on the fenders in front ? It looks ugly
R.I.P. Viper clutch
All it needs is a aftermarket exhaust, robust twin turbo kit and a read spoiler delete.
+Demetre Gvaramia That would completely ruin the car.
just get a regular viper then
Only competent, skilled drivers need apply.
Good Day.
Gas, tires, insurance are issues for me, same with HC. Almost like maintaining a trailer race car
I feel the same way about Hellcats, but Vipers??? That's just the nature of the beast. This was a true super car. Epotheros oooohhhhhhh. That's pretty cool actually!
3:06...not too sure but doesn't appear to be the tires that are smoking =(
It was...it's just the under tray aerodynamics sucked the smoke under the car and it when out the back. The car lost traction after it when over the starting line.

From what i've found.
T/A- 278 lbs
T/A 2.0 - 460lbs
ACR - 1,101
Etreme ACR -1,500+ @ 150mph.
'Winglets'. I believe the motorsport term is : kenards.
it was bonkers until the very last version
I managed to flip a viper on flat, wet ground.
And you sir, need to hand in your man card for that. Penalty for wrecking a Viper is typically death but someone apparently likes you.
clutch burnnnnn
That's what I was wondering...those tires are ridiculously sticky so...
The bad thing about this car is that it's literally only a race car on the street. Chevy offers more options for there ZO6 then this car but nonetheless is a great track car you can own

Audiwan Kenobi the only thing I expect from you is a burger. Go make my order.
Slick ass beast of a car. But I'll take a Hellcat Challenger
People like you is why the viper is going out of production...
Probably. Either that or they'll concentrate more on the Hellcat Grand Cherokee that's due out soon. 2017 I believe
Bad Assery

everything is cool about this new Viper ACR, with the exception of the headlights. those headlights don't go well with the rest of the design.
+george palacios The headlight/look was good enough for GM/Chevy to copy and put on the Z06;-)
Definitely limited to a 3rd car choice. What a bad-@ss!
Bad asserie 😂
Badass car. But it is Not worth the extra money over a Z06.
+ZL1Gimpelson I understand

Does he always dress like a used car salesman? That jacket is 2 sizes too big.
The holes cut out of the front fenders look amateurish. Could they not have put vented inserts in there instead?
+cdangers there are vent inserts they were just showing that you can remove them for more air flow.
They are ending the viper next year?
Wow, that is unfortunate....
If only Dodge could make cheap american cars that americans WANT to drive.
I love the viper but honestly id get the hellcat before I buy this
+zzzhuh I know, that sucks the world needs the insanity the Viper has to offer...

Yea, technology in cars has advanced a lot and maybe not for the best.
Regular economy cars should be extremely easy to drive ect.
But super cars should be a very direct, one on one kind of drive. But like you said, they pretty much drive themselves now a days...

I'm American and all three of my vehicles are manually shifted and don't even have power steering. My wife, brother, parents, and parents in law all have manual cars as well.
But for the most part, I agree Americans under the age of 40 tend to be pussies who can't handle shifting and don't even consider it as an option. The good news is, I don't have to worry about friends asking to take my car for a joy ride.
Silly typical american review, "the dark side", really? Show for kids huh...
The only other car to have those winglets is the Koenigsegg One:0ne.
typical Yank over the top car
rubbish car GTR would kill it
+Haroon nisar except the acr won..... every time
Reygo 91097 that's the truth
Actually GT-Rs are slow on the track compared to Most Supercars. The GT350R mustang beat the new 2017 GT-R's lap time @ Laguna Seca. And before you say Nurburgring...everyone knows the Nismo wasn't stock...Like most of the cars Nissan runs there.
Laguna Seca lap times:
1. ACR Viper - 1:28.65 (track record)
2. Porsche 918 - 1:29.89
3. McLaren P1 - 1:30.71
4. C7 Z06 - 1:33.05
5. 991 GT3RS - 1:33.29
6. T/A Viper -1:33.62
7. C6 Zr-1 - 1:33.70
8. Old ACR - 1:33.92
9. Viper GTS - 1:34.23 , Audi R8 Plus - 1:34.23
11. C6 Z06 w/Z07 - 1:34.43
12. Mp4-12C - 1:34.50
13. Mclaren 570S - 1:34.58
14. SRT (Base) Viper - 1:34.63
15. SLS AMG Balck series - 1:35.03
16. AMG GT S - 1:35.30
17.Aventador (LP700-4)- 1:35.40
18. - 1:35.51
For comparison the 2017 565hp GT-R only ran a 1:37.08...slower than the 530hp and 550hp old GT-R models.
GT-Rs are great 0
PORKER skank
i dont give it shit gtr is the ultimate car
Cody Krause 600lb/ft of torque from 8.4L by 2016 standards is wank, dress it up anyway you want but it is still wank.
That poor clutch I will be sure to pour one on the curb for you lol
