PART L COMPLIANT CONCRETE FLOOR STEP BY STEP WE ARE BACK ON THE ABANDONED CONSERVATORY BASE.
WE STONE UP USING 40 MM DOWN MOT HARDCORE THEN COMPACT WITH A WACKER PLATE. NEXT IS THE SAND BLINDING TO PROTECT THE 1ST LAYER OF DPM FROM BEING PUNCTURED BY THE HARDCORE. NEXT WE INSTALL THE 25 MM JABLITE COLD BRIDGING STRIP AROUND ALL EXTERNAL PERIMETER WALLS . NEXT IS A LAYER OF 1200 GAUGE DPM THEN THE 100 MM THICK PIR INSULATION. NEXT IS THE FINAL DPM THEN LASTLY THE 130 MM THICK CONCRETE FLOOR IS BARROWED IN AND POURED. ONCE IN WE THEN TAMP THE CONCRETE AND FINALLY TROWEL IT UP, WE USE A LIGHT WEIGHT 6 FOOT LEVEL.... The guy that fixes my washing machine calls himself an "engineer". He's good at fixing Zannussi's but knows sod all about building work. Such as your "engineer's" attention span goes, you've missed the bit where they explain that they are rescuing a build already started by the customer and are working with what they were given. Basically, shut up and pay attention.
Coming onto a job where you're taking over a bad job its wise to go overkill a bit to make sure there's reassurance,
As far as I can tell its a standard 100mm slab, 100mm insulation and sheeting, below than is 6 dumpy bags of hardcore.
Theyve done a row of engineered blocks as a start and why not, who knows the quality of the footing pour before they arrived and looks like its been sat for 1 or 2 winters
So genius engineer if they hadn't added the hardcore the concrete would've needed to be deeper to get to finished floor height.
Should they of shovelled a load of soil in there first to save on hardcore? do they buy 3 tonnes of soil ? if so why not bang hardcore in as its probably about the same bulk bag price.

Some french drains around the footings would have helped you - it's no fun sloshing around in puddles when you're trying to build. Also I wasn't clear if you actually needed 6 tons of crushed stone for structural reasons, or just to bring the height of the floor up (i.e. it was just a filler). If it was just needed as a filler, you could have put in more insulation that required by the regs to fill the space, and used cheaper EPS rather than PIR.
We always work to regs .
Insulation is very expensive and we were in a budget 🧱👍🏽

Two things - the structure under the door is a huge cold bridge - 50mm polystyrene is not sufficient to prevent. I usually detail a full cavity across the opening, close it with Thermabate closer and use a timber window board at slab level to 'make pretty'. And, this is personal opinion, with such a massive amount of stone under the slab + the delay time, pouring and curing - why not use a suspended B&B structure, quicker, easier - cheaper (not so sure). All the contractors around our way prefer B&B rather than insitu concrete!

I'm confused, if you have bought the concrete slab up to the existing internal floor level are you not screeding?
We do sub-base then concrete then PIR then 75mm screed to existing finish floor level.

Never taped it and it’s not blown away yet 🌥️🌬️💨
It's not to stop it blowing away lol, the aluminium taping is to stop the thermal bridging between the insulation gaps and should definitely be done.

You can’t use the bags again anyway, not insured for more than one lift. Too big for rubbish if you have to manually carry them. Wickes sell a mini bag of these ideal for rubbish for £2.
