Black Celebration for me is the ultimate Depeche Mode album. The atmosphere, melodies and unique sounds really gets under your skin and the more you listen to it the more it grows on you. Just an absolute vow from start to end.
After so many decades as a Depeche Mode fan, I like "A Question of Lust" more than "Somebody". So I agree with you. Look forward to the live version. It's great too.
My personal favourite song from Martin is 'The things you said', from Music for the Masses (I'm really looking forward to your reaction on that), but this is definetly the second. When I was around 10-12 years old this was the song I listened all the time. Simply: Beautiful song
Most diehard DM fans love Martin's ballads and especially this one! Martin's lyrics are REAL life! If you pay attention, you will really enjoy the ride the next few albums will bring. I don't suggest songs as I know you are going in order!
This is wothout a doubt one of Martin's best songs that he sung, right up there with Somebody, an absolute classic. Check out the "Minimal Mix" for some mind-bending.
It's hard to request a Depeche Mode song because they are all good. Wait till you get to Music for the Masses and Violator albums, you will be blasted with bangers. Some particular juicy ones: "Strangelove," "Behind the Wheel," "Personal Jesus," "World in My Eyes" ..... It's an exhaustive but magnificent list. 👍👍DM is ear candy!! 🎶🎶My personal fave is the live version of "Route 66" total groovy-ness in all its perfection.
All very true. The reason people haven’t requested this song is not because it’s not good, it’s because they have such broad list of incredible songs. Even I’m constantly debating which ones are at the top of the list. I’ve seen them live 7 times starting with the Music for the Masses tour, which is my favourite concert ever. Mode will always be #1 for me even though they were no where near their former glory after Alan Wilder left. Their earlier stuff is just too amazing to ignore.
.... and Alan Wilder is a synth god, when the two of them come together they make history ..... .... God, they need to reunite, make they put aside their differences to make great beautiful music again .... before its too late ..
I fell in love with this (and Martin) when I first heard it too. Listened to it everyday for months! And the album just remains at this level. Can't wait for your coming reactions.
You HAVE to listen to 101 it's a full live concert after Music for the Masses and it's the reason why many people fell in love with DM, they are amazing live
I enjoyed watching you listen to this for the first time. You are in the DM era for me where you will hear a lot of the obligatory "best of DM" talking points---because it really is some of their best music. This is my favorite Martin song by far---with 'The Things You Said,' coming close as well.
I discovered DM in 1987, when I was fourteen and Ilistened Strangelove on the radio. But, from the moment I discovered this ballad it was my ffavourite song from Black Celebration. I agree absolutely with you. Perhaps ballads aren't the obvious choice for a top list of DM but some of them are between their best songs.
this song I knew since I was 14 years old and I has understand it so good in that age. It was my secret song because I hadn´d noone to talk about it. I think it´s a very personal song for anybody so this is the reason why nobody has suggested it to you.
You were given the gift of low expectations with this one. Martin's chorus vocal and accompanying chimes is so gorgeous, especially when he hits those high notes with "what we've built up crumble to dust..."
Martin's voice is angelic and it is the same live- if not more beautiful. One Caress shocked everyone as he did it in ONE TAKE. He is perfect. There is no voice in the world like his!
Living in California, a friend played Speak and Spell for me and I thought it was okay. Then Black Celebration reached my ears while I was in Germany. A few weeks later, I went to see them (Book of Love opened), and from then on, I was hooked. A Question of Lust is by far my favorite song. And yes, Black Celebration is my favorite album. DMs Momento Mori tour may be the last chance to see them in a stadium setting. See them live while you still can!
your reaction...it was mine so long ago and still have goosebumps every time..of course, the production, the music but again the lyrics from Mart ..perfection....and for the next two coming again just pay attention to the fantastic lyrics .
why in the heck has no one recommended this to me in the past!!!! Like pretty much EVERY OTHER SONG has been requested at some point. But nothing for this one....
It’s so beautiful. Black celebration was the first album I bought, in 1997 when I was 14 😅 having just listened to title track on a random tape… I needed to see what the whole album was like and man… I BECAME A FAN AND HAD TO BUY ALL OF THEIR ALBUMS. I cry with this song and also with the extended version of BUT NOT TONIGHT. BLACK CELEBRATION IS TOP 3 DM albums for me 😇
This is my favorite DM song of all time. It's a hard call, but this is the winner for me. And I love Martin's voice on this one, so special. I'm glad you love it, I told you this was coming. :) In my defense on the "suggestion" aspect, I only started listening to your channel since you've been doing the albums in order. So I was just letting stuff come.
Olso an amazing song called, But not tonight, first interpreted by Dave Gahan, but last years version, live, interpreted by MLGore is impresive, i think best live performance for Martin Gore, sing But not tonight,,,,, look at it
My God, there are so many great songs. Where do you start. It's a much loved song, but there are sooo many others, too. Martin's songs are a different beast. Truly lovely and unique; different from Dave's songs.
Martin Gore in Bong issue no. 37, 1998: "This track has always been almost like an old 50s or 60s classic pop song. It’s a really good song to do live and it’s got a great melody. I joked with the others about it the other day, saying I think The Beatles stole the melody from me..."
So many amazing tracks by dm it would be a massive list. But home is another awesome track with Martin singing. But seeing as you are doing it almost in order you will just have to wait... : ).
The whole part about the flies - They start off by saying death is everywhere, and flies tend to be attracted to dead things, so the flies are a symbol of death. The point is we can die at any moment, so come here, touch me, kiss me now.
Black Celebration became like eating breakfast i listened to this every day next to Violator my favorite album. This Song is only topped by the 101 live version when i hit puberty lol
For me no Violator, no Sofad and others DM albums can't beat Black Celebration! It's their best time and work ever, no one bad song! It inspired as many american rap artists, as IDM artists like Autechre, Aphex Twin and so on. 1986 was a great year for electronic music, kind of a turning point!
For me this reaction is not a surprise, everyone loves it, DP fans, but they have so many good songs that not even I can seperate my favs, I was 16 when this was released.
It’s certainly one of Martin’s best - vocally, sonically and lyrically. But, with that being said, I’m still curious to see what you have to say about his songs like The Things You Said, Sweetest Perfection, Judas, Home, Breathe, Macro and many others
As for the Black Celebration album, you should definitely listen to the song A Question Of Time (remix) used in the music video for this song. It's better than the original on the album
Its a great song! No idea why people don't request it.I especially like Home and Once Caress sung by Martin in later albums. The next few albums from Black Celebration are like extremely good.
I know you'll get there, but for me, Home is Martin Gore's best song. Makes me cry almost every time.

This song is one of my favorites by DM. Along with about thirty others :D I don't have any rankings, everything depends on the mood of the moment. Otherwise, in my opinion, there is not a single weaker track on the Black Celebration album.
I'll be honest here. This song is not my favorite, but it's not because it's not good, it's great. But, I love so many songs from this band that I can't choose a favorite. They have recorded so much excellent music.
Try 'Somebody'; apparently Martin recorded it naked by candlelight. 80s music will never be equalled. Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Human League and others. Also please listen to the band 'Talk Talk' with one of the greatest voices ever in the terrible, awful, sad, heart-breaking death of the great, great Mark Hollis.
101 version is the hq one bu the most amazing voczl performance is in the 1986 tour. He goes very very high in pitch in this live, it's almost hutting your own throat.
@@SephPlays A double reaction would be epic. By the way, was just listening to the sun and the rainfall in 5.1, and I promise it sounds way more cleaner than the original mix. Most of their songs works better in 5.1, like the sun and the rainfall, lie to me, two minute warning, and the list goes on. Violator album in 5.1 is actually the best thing Ive ever heard, except with enjoy the silence. If you have the time, once you've finished the Ultra album or if you want to re listen their old tunes with a fresher flair, I really recommend you those mixes. Their don't change the musical structures, they re just putting previously hidden sounds in your ears.
Question of Lust has exceptional lyrics, and the melody ain’t half bad. Myself though, I’m partial to the younger, gayer version of DM and would suggest New Life.
Maybe someone did suggest it to you, but how do you go in album-by-album order... well, we're waiting for you to enjoy the order of each album, without skipping from one to another. AQOL is one of the fan favorites, make no mistake about it and at least 8 out of 10 fans will say so.
I don't know how you came to the conclusion AQOL is underated or not liked much, it must've just gotten lost in all the other great DM songs listed/recommended because it is one of the best DM songs in general and definitely a top 5 Martin songs for fans. You should really listen to the Minimal mix and the Flood mix.
Ohh i definitely will listen to some mixes in the near future 😊 Its odd really. Its one of them songs that DM fans don't seem to talk about much? I dunno, i personally think that it really is one of the best DM songs 👌❤️
I think they kinda lost this simplicity and melodic approach in the last albums. I love them anyway and still buy their albums because they are still above average junk you could listen on the radio

My favourite song ever
All DM fans ADORE this song. I spent months and months singing along this masterpiece when it was released.
This song was amazing 😍
Marty sounds like an 😇 angel...wait til you get to Home or One Caress omg...I get goosebumps with his voice...
OK to be honest at times I get a Lil teary-eyed even...with his voice ...I don't know why...sigh...my brain just likes it...
Same here
This gets better and better with each listen.
It’s definitely one of my all time favs

After this im on a all time high. 3 GOOD SONGS IN A ROW!!!
Sometimes and it doesn't matter two (a good one) are rather quiet songs which are perfect for following songs
Here the song from there live single version he sounds like angel.
