Get some rope and follow the video and practice. That’s the only way I learned how to do it. Watching a video is great for learning how to do things but sometimes you need to have the instructions in front of you until you learn how to do it correctly. Once you’ve mastered it then you won’t have any problems.
It does have fluff - the unwarranted and unsupported claim ridiculing of some supposed or hope-for first time knot tiers not being Eagle Scout experts.
You were the fourth video i tried to see and learn this knot: thank you so much for actually getting to the instructions instead of talking for a while about things i dont care about; for not using “technical” language to sound extra smart; for not putting horrendous music everywhere, and for clearly videoing the process. Thank you!
👍🙂 I have been using this hitch for over 50 years my dad drove truck and I learned it from him. YOU ARE THE FIRST PERSON I HAVE SEEN DO IT RIGHT ✅️ Thank you for your time 😅
One of the most useful “How To” videos out there on this subject. My grandpa used to tie this setup all the time with lightening speed and precision. I wish I had paid attention better as a young kid.
my Dad is a seasoned trucker and this is his knot of choice, problem is I was the kid who mastered holding the flashlight lol. Thank you for the video and patience.
I think I've watched 20 videos on how to do a trucker's hitch. In terms of production quality and delivery of the presentation, this was the best. Great job.

Greetings from Cornwall U.K.. I'm 65 years old and have struggled with this hitch for years you explained it very well. I did slow the video down to get the detail.I have just done a jig around the kitchen ,as at last thanks to you, I have finally got it!!!!! Many thanks.
Awesome! I just learned more about a easy to remove tie down in 2 minutes, than I have in my 58 years of life..and I’ve tied a lot of things. This Old dog got a new trick!😄 Thanks a lot! 👌👍👍✌️
Brandon, This video is now 7 yrs. old but it has been my "Go to" in my files for at least 5 yrs. it's helped me so much. Don't know why your video is so easy to remember but I always come back to it. Really helped me the last 2 days to tie down an umbrella top on my brother's boat. I may have had to watch it 4 or 5 times. to get it down, but I can now tie everything down tight successfully, "Righty tightey" at all 4 corners. Thanks Brandon.
I'm now 67 yrs old, and starting to have difficulty remembering all the knots I've learned, yours are still the best friend, clarity and simplicity meets functionality my friend thank you..@@BrandonNelson
Wow after watching dozens of videos on truckers hitch I was still confused after forgetting How to tie it properly After watching your short and easy to understand demo I am now finally able to tie a great easy fast and very reliable knot. Many thanks for sharing
This is the most useful knot that I never learned in Boy Scouts. Actually the most useful knot I have ever learned. I watched 5 or 6 videos on the trucker's hitch and your video was by far the best. I have shared it with about 10 friends so far. Thank-you for this simple, easy to follow instructional video. Yesterday, I tied down a trellis in the yard so it won't blow over in 100mph winds; 4 rope tie-offs in less then 10 minutes. It took longer to cut off the tangled mess of knots I had created in previous years.
th-cam.com/video/JBh7_cw2-1s/w-d-xo.html Better. More secure, no "pinching" your tension to finish the knot, and quicker to tie. 3:42 for straight to the point, but the explanation and history is worth it.
Brandon I really like your GE knot combined with this truckers hitch combination, I have actually "tested" it against another favorite knot of mine called the Siberian Hitch. I have found your knot to be superior! It cinches down tighter and does not come undone with a dynamic load yet there's no need to cut my line after the trip!!! Thank you.
@@BrandonNelson Thank you, you have sincerely helped me with your excellent video tutorial, as a retired professional truck driver I sure could have used this knowledge a thousand times over as a younger man! I'm still using these knots regularly.. God bless you my friend.
I think it might be structurally equivalent to the Siberian hitch. I think both are slipped figure eight nooses. He just wraps the GE around the standing end and your wrap the Siberian around your hand once, then twist your hand over the standing end for the second twist, if that makes sense. It's always hard to explain knots with words rather than demonstrating them.
That was outstanding!! As others have said I have tried to learn the truckers hitch before but just couldn't get it right. Somehow your video just made it click. I think because you really broke the knot into three separate steps where everything else I've seen does the whole thing all the way through. Thank you so much.
this is the best trucker hitch tutorial i have seen so far, short and easy to understand, and the first part is a saver too! very useful ( most other video only focus on the second part, the truckers hitch, and i didnt know the first part and what i usually do is tie a bowline and loop it through )
Wow thanks dude. Simply explained, straight to the point and important stuff. You have no idea how much time I've waisted trying to tie things down trying to create hitches from my mind.
I agree! In spite of having 10 thumbs, this is an extremely well-presented tutorial. Appreciate how Mr. Nelson effectively coordinates his articulate instructions with the camera. Would welcome more of these. Thank you, Sir.
TH-cam recommended this to me. It brought back memories of my time in the Royal Marines. I still remember the sergeant saying... "FFS Jones you can't tie knots so just tie lots" Happy days :-)
Brandon- You saved my day. I left my ratchet straps in my buddy's truck but I do have rope. You showed me I don't really need them. I might just let Bill keep the straps. Thanks for a great video!
That is awesome. That GE knot is a huge time saver. Of all the crap I got taught in school and the scouts, this would have been helpful. You should do one on the canadian jam knot, another one I wish I had known years ago. Good video!!!
Thank you! That initial hitch is SO much easier to remember, tie, and neaten than a Siberian hitch. Easier to cinch the knot, as well. And the trucker's hitch is the easiest to remember and tie that I've seen.
great video i must say...the other night i had to load a sofa in my truck and had no idea how to tie and felt stupid and did exactly what you said about just making a mess and wishing for the best haha.. here is the reason why i like this video most other videos just show you how to tie. you actually took the time to explain with an actual load..so thank you keep up the good work 👍👍
You make it look so much easier than they do in the music video "Trucker's Hitch" by Ylvis. If you're a knot guy, you would appreciate that video more than most...you should check it out! Since I'm the guy who has always made the tangles you referred to in this video rather than real knots...I'm going to start using these 2 in the future. Thanks!
This truckers hitch has been making my head explode for years. Married a woman that knows how to do it and I refuse to ask her to show me how. Thanks for the great video! 😁
This is the best and easiest video I have ever seen on a truckers hitch and i have watched several. A lot of people try to complicate it! Why I do not know. On the other end I have always tied a boline knot.

Make it even better by passing the line through the loop one more time to give it a locking action as you put tension on the rope. Also, that GE Knot isn't the most secure as it will capsize under extreme load. I use a bowline even though it isn't a quick-release knot since I know it is a great anchor knot that will come undone easily.

Make it even better by passing the line through the loop one more time to give it a locking action as you put tension on the rope. A second pass of the line through the loop formed near the load adds enough friction to allow balance of tying without any loss of tension.
Second pass works best with nylon line......forms a "self locking" knot
