This is hardly a forgotten sequel. I think it's a solid story and a good script. I watch "Beneath" every time I'm in the mood to watch the original "Apes" series.
Billy, thank you so much for your analysis on this film. It is actually my favourite movie in the original 5-movie Ape franchise. Like you I loved it. You have a great way of doing these vids so long may they continue. All the very best from New Zealand! 😊
I saw this movie when it came to the theaters in 1970, and I was 10 years old. The unmasking scene scared the hell out of me! I still love this movie, maybe as much if not more than the original. I think it doesn't deserve all the criticism it gets. Around this time, there were lots of movies and novels dealing with end of the world due to nuclear war scenarios. This threat was at the front of everyone's mind back then, and remember feeling it even as a 10 year old kid. Thanks for the video!
It is masterful in its building dread from start to finish, you find yourself hoping against hope that the humans and chimpanzees will win against the gorillas and Dr. Zaius all the way to the end. Then, there is the shocking ending which tops the original surprise ending and the most shocking reveal in cinematic history until the Empire strikes back.
This brings back memories man! I loved these films and this movie too, especially the reveal of the humans worshipping the nuke. I remember going on a crazy Planet of the Apes kick, as I loved the lore, but this was the early 80's with limited ability to get a hold of everything. My dad got a VCR and had all the films bootlegged, including much of the tv show. It's all foggy now, so I look forward to your recaps, especially the tv show, as I never got to see the ending, if there was a proper one. Nova was off the charts btw, banging body and gorgeous. I remember her, Jane Fonda (Barbarella), and the hot chicks from Buck Rogers doing strange things to young me lol
Anyone who is a fan of the original franchise, I'd highly recommend getting your hands on the novelizations of the four sequels. They are brilliantly written and fill in many of the gaps. For instance, in "Beneath", when the apes invade the mutant's underground world, on screen you see the apes breaking all of the busts of someone's head. They were all named Mendez, all descendants of the Mendez left behind in "Battle", he was the one Kohl ordered to fire the missile if they were defeated. Well he, the original Mendez, disobeyed Kohl's order and he became the protector of the missile. And of course in "Beneath", there have been dozens of Mendezs. I don't believe his name is mentioned in the 2nd movie. The books tie it all together . Conquest is especially good, Milo's journey from being sold at the auction to being able to rally the apes into rebellion is amazing. The movie's good but the book makes things more consistently fluid. Get the books, I'm sure used copies are available, they're out of print but I've seen them for sale.
I love this movie! I loved the expanded story of the confused and abused Nova. Brent is a great character that in every way compares and contrasts with Taylor. The movie is violent, visually (at times) stunning and complicated. Everything is boiling to a bizarre, mind-bending conclusion that makes for one of the best films of the sixties! The film only only suffers in brief sequencee because of the rushed production and Fox's infinite cheapness. Appreciate your enthusiastic and funny take. We need MORE bold, out-of-control American movies about our madness! And this brain-shattering ending, with Alan Freed's horrific voiceover proclamation, is one of the best endings you will ever see in a movie. Talk about leaving your audience gobsmacked!
It's one of my FAVES! Naturally I think this one and the 3rd film are the saddest in the original series. Also, the satire is close to being as biting as in the first film.
I saw this when it came out in the theatre. I was 12. Tbh I was disappointed as it came across to me as too obvious and social preachy, like a lot of films today. The bomb church seemed too out there and had a depressing ending. But in it's defense it had a hard act to follow as the first was very fresh/original. I see/agree with your point about some renewed relevance today though and I hadn't expected or hoped for that. Once was enough. Strangely, I also saw a church in the news not long ago about a church that has the M16 rifle in it's Church logo and a gold M16 (maybe plated) kept by it as some sort of symbol. They are here in PA.
This film is clearly a Cold War allegory as evidenced by the mutants (who clearly represented Russia) and their worship of the bomb. Beyond that Charlton Heston really had no interest in doing the sequel but only insisted provided that his character was killed off.
Loved the original Planet of the Apes Movies which were much better than the later Copies apart from the first New Movie which was Different and had so much that was wasted in the Second Third Movies
After Conquest, the final chapter is a let down because it was designed to be family friendly. I submit that the original ending of Conquest is superior to the theatrical ending.
I just watched this for the first time and it was even worse than the original as far as bad acting and bad sets. The remake with Marky Mark and the prequels that came after were all much better.
You should make more analysis videos.
another one thursday! next apes movie !
This is one of my favorites in the Apes series, most people rank it low, but I watch it at least once a year.
Same here.💯👍. I love it
🎵Alllll MiiiiIIGGGHHHteeEEEEEY Boonmmmmb!🎶.
I was surprised to know people hated this movie and even hated the first as well. I loved them both and conquest.
I love the second Plant Of The Ape movie.
This is hardly a forgotten sequel. I think it's a solid story and a good script. I watch "Beneath" every time I'm in the mood to watch the original "Apes" series.
This movie with it's subterranean ruins really captured my imagination as a little kid . One of my favorite movies period .

The film series should have ended with beneath!

They reused the set from "Hello Dolly" for the mutants place, but covered in lots of dust.

i’ll be honest! i wasn’t planning on doing the show but now that you’ve mentioned it, i’ll make it a bonus at the end of all the movies :)
@@billyadvance It's a must! Look forward to the rest of your coverage!

Fire video
4:50 so the cult of Atom?
Yes? I suppose thats where they got the idea from.
I absolutely love this movie. I saw it when I was a kid and the scenes of destroyed New York City and the underground captured my imagination.
truly blew my mind
It's one of my FAVES! Naturally I think this one and the 3rd film are the saddest in the original series. Also, the satire is close to being as biting as in the first film.
I remember watching this and Planet and Escape on Super Scary Saturday in the late 80’s on TBS.
that’s so sick. i wish marathons like that were more important today i feel like thats how a lot of people were introduced to movies early in life.
billy ! moment
i dont consider this a forgotten film. A great film.
This was my first PofTAs seen at the movies. Pretty good sequel.
One of my P.C. background images is of the underground city by the bus and library. It is time for mass! - "I reveal my innnermost self...."
it’s incredible
oh wait he's goated
all things bright and beautiful ,and glory to the bomb, awesome movie!

Title is Clickbait. I REMEMBER it! 🤓😎✌🏻

Thanks for whispering. I was afraid Mom and Dad would hear us.
i’ll make sure the next one’s even quieter !
Loved the original Planet of the Apes Movies which were much better than the later Copies apart from the first New Movie which was Different and had so much that was wasted in the Second Third Movies

Well battle was the final film. It should end with hope to live together in peace!
Forgotten? How?
As a fan of all of the originals, you had too many errors right off the bat to make me wonder if you watched any of the movies at all
you’re right the nuke church came to me in a dream
Very underrated indeed. The whole series should have just been the first and then this movie. Rise and war suckd
I just watched this for the first time and it was even worse than the original as far as bad acting and bad sets. The remake with Marky Mark and the prequels that came after were all much better.
this stoner might be right and CW films are topical. Time for some MosFilm, i guess. I'd rather not but
hell yea
