Hard to believe all the violent, wild stories about our American Poet when you listen to these interviews. Jim is always intelligent, honest, and almost gentle in all of his interviews.
Wow...what a treat this interview!!! Amazing!!! Jim was such a well mannered intelligent wonderfull articultate person!! Truly amazing!! Resting In Paris :-) xxx
the cool thing about morrison, aside from his obvious intelligence, was his refreshing humility. he's really frank here & honest in both their strengths & weaknesses.
At 8:30 I love how Rolling Stones "You can't always get what you want" starts in the background. It's very euphoric, considering Jim died a year after this interview.
Amazing interview!!!! So cool to actually hear his voice having a conversation, and how engaged he was in the questions...but so sad to know he would be gone so soon after this...and, The stones in the background..."You can't always get what you want"....Man-SO COOL!!!
I think its fucking CRAZY how We can hear other legends in the back. Going back to that time and find the video footage of hendrix and such and think "backstage sat the lizard king."
Wow. What an incredible moment in time is captured in this recording with Jim Morrison while Joe Cocker and The Rolling Stones play live on stage in the background, grounded and intelligent responses are given by Jim Morrison to a self confessed interviewer fan! Great to listen to. Thank you xxx
yeah check this out at (9:53) Jim: Oh look a natural movie Interviewer: oh that's beautiful Jimi: looks like a priest....intangible Interviewer: that's Mr. Hendrix. Nice to see there paths crossing, I wonder if Jimi even noticed him, it doesn't seem as if he did but who knows they may have just waved at each other for all we know. There's something exciting about the stories of musical greats.
You can watch an interview of Jim Morrison's dad here on youtube, it's taken from the documentary "When you're strange". His sis, Anne is on it too. You can tell that his father really tried to tear him down about his singing. However in his old age he seemed to mellow a bit and recognize that his talent was as a performer.
I met a guy called Ramon at Glastonbury festival in 1992 who told me he was the reincarnation of Jim Morrison. He was at least 35. I smiled, gave him back his joint and said "hey man you're too old". He put his hand on my shoulder, looked me straight in the eye and said, "you have to be in a constant state of revolution or you're dead". I asked him what he meant and he said "time is irrelevant". Then he picked up a mic and recited A Feast of Friends word for word. Death makes angels of us all and gives us wings where we had shoulders smooth as raven's claws.
it's called "The Doors Are Open" and it was produced by British film-makers in 1968. It concentrates on the Roundhouse performance as well as the one from the Netherlands
I was at a Restaurant in Battery Park City, NYC!!!with my daughter and you couldn't stop but to listen the 80s mix playing in the radio "Riders of the Storm" I love you Jim
I thought it was a great interview ;) The interviewer and Jim establish a really good rapport as the interview progresses. Lots of cool insights from Jim about Woodstock etc., and his analysis of Soft Parade was cool too.
For the commenters that say Jim’s voice changes toward the end of the interview: that is because the tape speeds up slightly. Probably due to the age of the tape. To be properly preserved, the recording needs to be speed-corrected.
(9:53) Jim: Oh look a natural movie Interviewer: oh that's beautiful Jimi: looks like a priest....intangible Interviewer: that's Mr. Hendrix. Nice to see there paths crossing, I wonder if Jimi even noticed him, it doesn't seem as if he did but who knows they may have just waved at each other for all we know. Jim went to see Jimi in his dressing room before this according to the Stephen Davis bio of Jim. I had this Hendrix gig on vid in the 90's & was always convinced I could see Jim watching from the wings albeit briefly but Davis confirms he did watch the whole show from there. Jimi addresses the crowd @ 14:50 btw.
" a very straight newspaper called The Guardian" The interview is overwhelmed and trying to impress, he's annoying but Jim is astounding, such a calm, collected voice
Jim was exhausted for this gig it sounds great but video footage show how tired he was Miami trial drink and flying to England The Doors musically for this sound great though Look for bootleg copy.
his father came from a different generation. He was able to recognize Jim's talent, but thought (correctly) he would have been better suited to a film/writing career and that the music industry would destroy him. Morrison could have been the greatest poet/writer/filmmaker of the late 20th century.. as it was..
CapAnson12345 Hahahahah! Instead he settled for being one of the greatest rockers in history, and one of the most important personalities of the sixties.
The speed up at the end of the recording might be because the little portable reel-to-reel tape recorder's batteries were running out, & the drive was getting slower. When it was played back at normal speed, the slowed-down part would have played back faster. I guess!
@daneiladams They are NOT playing live :) - their music is played on the PA before the Hendrix show! (14:37 : the MC says "and the man with the guitar, Jimi Hendrix" followed by his introductory words -check out the Hendrix show at the Isle of Wight.). The Stones didn't play Wight in 70.Hendrix walks to the stage at 10:00!

Probably depression but he was a severe alcoholic and he did indeed dabble in hard drugs. Those factors in addition to being unhappy with a "Rock Star" status when he was much happier being just a poet.
I've always wanted to find this ....wondered why the Isle of WRight concert didn't include more of the Doors show and Bob Dylan is seen being lead in at the end by Bobbies...but does not include his performance.
Jimi sighted by Jim ( 9:53) Jim: Oh look a natural movie Interviewer: oh that's beautiful Jimi: looks like a priest....intangible Interviewer: that's Mr. Hendrix. There's something exciting about the stories of musical greats.
Yes, something did happen. His father was an Admiral in the Navy, during a very unpopular war.( actually "in charge" @ the Gulf of Tolken incident). I am sure that his Father had high expectations for Jim to follow in his path. Jim couldn't, so there had to be some very tough issues between the two. Issues, that were never resolved. The sex thing, is hard for me to believe. Jim was a PR nightmare for his father, therefore, the wedge was driven. Just my un-informed opinion.
I have seen that! One of the most insightful interviews I've ever read. I don't personally believe Jim was violent but there are the stories about how he gave Robbie a black eye or literally strangled Ray Manzarek almost to death during a limo ride, etc. I think the whole Jimbo persona is a bit overblown anyways. We all have different sides and facets to our character, famous artists are no exception.
Some previous comments below about this I/V are cynical, but I just think Jim comes across really well.Stones' recording in the background at 8.24 for some reason on the PA. Jim was/is one of the best ever.
The music in the background is obviously someone playing records as neither Joe Cocker nor The Rolling Stones appeared at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970.
Yes, I have seen that interview. It appeared to me, that Jim's father didn't spend a lot time with Jim. I didn't understand his attitude towards Jim's voice, because Jim had a wondrful voice. On another strange note, Why did Jim's dad wait so long to talk openly about Jim?
Well, that truly is something to ponder.Jim's father was the Flag Officer for all Navy ships in the Gulf, therefore, he would've known the plans of the US government, to exploit the so-called attack on the USS Turner Joy, in the Gulf of Tonkin. Jim was actually embarrassed with his father. Going so far as to claim that his parents were dead. The only role that I think Jim played, was that of the Prodigal Son. Except that, he never returned....
RojotheRed I had read somewhere that a junior Naval officer found the Doors first album and brought it to his father (Admiral Morrison) who then played it and called or wrote Jim saying he was making a bad career choice and essentially needed to “get a real job.” This hurt Jim pretty deeply The Admiral later regretted this and said so, but only after Jim passed away.
Does anyone have an idea who the american accented voice speaking in the last two minutes about Arthur Lee and Love is? Is it one of the other Doors? (maybe Kreiger or Densmore)..
i love the internet i love the doors i adore jim still and pam the europeans and california treated him so good but miami killed him jims right those festivals are really still popular jim was so awesome im so glad this stuff is being posted is so great too me i love all the real info and hearing jims voice is sooo soothing i love jim pam and ray robbie and john i listen too u all day everyday everything they have the doors deserve alot more im glad they were inducted into rock hall of fame
I will never understand why interviewers---supposedly pro journalists---ask such boring & dumbass questions to celebs. Here Morrison sounds relatively sober & is trying to take this mook seriously. But this reporter could manage nothing beyond the Tiger Beat magazine level. Sad.
It makes perfect sense to me that something happened to him. Many people who were molested become alcoholics and self destructive. Does Stephen say 'his father" though ? I thought it was "someone close to the family" or "a relative" (I read the book in french so I couldn't quote exactly).
Hard to believe all the violent, wild stories about our American Poet when you listen to these interviews. Jim is always intelligent, honest, and almost gentle in all of his interviews.

I loved this interview. Thank you for uploading. I put on my headphones, close my eyes and it takes me to 1970. Until we get that "time machine"....

At 8:30 I love how Rolling Stones "You can't always get what you want" starts in the background. It's very euphoric, considering Jim died a year after this interview.
Hearing Jim speak this way with the rolling stones playing live in the background is very amazing.

It wasn't live Stones. It was from records.
Joe Cocker was live at the beginning
such a calm voice he had
Jim Morrison speaking over "You can't always get what you want" is beautiful 👍. God bless all♥️✌️
A beautiful, intelligent, gentle genius who was a mortality artist to our sorrow but as a credit to his honesty.
just great.
he was such an intelligent, level-headed guy in interviews.

Really delightful to listen to and very insightful.
Pretty cool how Jim comes back next day for the interview. And we can hear at the end Jim is anxious to go see Jimi Hendrix's performance.

Margo Same for Kurt/Courtney
It was his girlfriend dude, better for him to be with someone that makes him happy , then just to entertain your sorry ass.
Part of his karma. He loved her. It didn't work itself out to completion and is still going on today.

I looked up The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970, it didnt mention Joe Cocker in the concert line-up. Perhaps he filled in a spot for another band?.
Songs played over P.A before next act comes on
The music that’s playing in the background there in the beginning is Quicksilver Messenger Service- who do you love part 2

why does it speed up at the end? that makes it sound horrible.
Rolling Stones singing in the background but would have to confirm in the lineup to be sure. But thats their songs.
It was studio recordings on the PA between acts. Cocker > Stones > Hendrix did not perform over the course of a 15 minute interview.
Joe Cocker in the background....
