  • There’s a lot going on in the United States of America right now and if you’re feeling emotionally overwhelmed about the uncertainty and don’t know what to think or feel about it all that’s ok.
    I’m right there with you.
Or even if you do know what to think or feel it can still be a lot.
It can be a lot to feel, read and hear opinions and if you’re empathic and highly sensitive like me the hate and lies can be too much to handle.
Sometimes we don’t know how much things are affecting us emotionally.
Last week I realized I needed to process and cry in the shower to release the pent up emotions I didn’t know were bothering me so much until it came out in frustration.
My emotions can feel stuck and numb (which is related my health issues - I couldn’t cry for years at one point) and I’ve learned that it’s good for me to try and make myself cry even if it’s a little.
So I cried for just a minute or less. And then I remembered this song I wrote and recorded a video of back in 2020 around election season.
I started singing it in the shower and it helped to get out my tears and express just how I was feeling.
I usually don’t say anything when I disagree with something political because like this song says I don’t think it usually does any good. But sometimes it can.
Yesterday was the one time I commented on a political post as a way to express my thoughts and ask questions.
Unsurprisingly, I got met with a lot of judgement and name calling. A part of me wishes I didn’t comment because maybe I was contributing to the division and we need to be more united than divided than ever right now.
But another part is glad I did because I’m learning it’s ok to express my thoughts and opinions like everyone else can and it’s ok for me too.
We all have the right even if we disagree.
Emotions are getting high right now and I don’t think we should let them get the best of us (myself included).
We need to be more emotionally regulated right now.
Pay attention to what emotions are coming up (ex: frustration, anger, sadness) and know emotions are just an indication of something you need.
Then take a moment to encourage yourself to cry or release anger in a safe space like in the shower, your room or wherever.
Listening to music and singing can evoke and release emotions too.
It’s so good to get it out especially when we may not realize we need to.
