@@dustinfont7598 no doubt a very nice snare but that’s over a thousand dollars more than a Dw collectors 14 x 8 brass.

Buying a high end is like a declaration of ones ability to play music often enough that the ear can discern quality difference

Great to hear Canopus Mahogany 5.5, alot of deep lows for a snare that size. I was thinking more for delicate jazz stuff but Shane here pounds the crap out of it to wake it up and it sounds great!

I find that the more I listen to all of your videos... anything in a 5 1/2 depth to my ear seems to have the best crack and sound the best on room mics

Although I liked them all, I still love Canopus snare drums. Tony helped me select the Canopus 6.5x14 Mahogany snare and it’s definitely worth every penny. Great drum. Very similar to the 5.5x14 with just a little more bottom end.

The drum I liked the best was the bass drum. That "thump" was heart stopping. As far as the snare drums go, by a nose I liked the DW Carbon Fiber best. I could see that drum being perfect no matter the music style(s) being played for the night. Nice playing Shane.

@@thesneakygamer4343 seriously. It is such a great all around snare material. But I find myself searching for interesting/ unique snare sounds lately. The schagerl copper was so good. This brass is great, too, though.

I would get a DW carbon fiber snare, but in the "pi" size. Tune it up high, it sounds astonishing. Normally I don't care for really deep snares, but the last one you played with the convex shell (never seen that before) sounded great with higher tuning.

Hey Sean, about 10 + years ago you had a snare drum tuning video where you kept the bottom head tight, and just adjusted the top head. Do you still tune that way?

I Always enjoy the sound of the Canopus Mahogany, no matter the size/depth, and the Schagerl really did sound great. Another solid video. I like Dunnett, but their sound is different than other manufacturers, subtly, and I'm not sure if it's really what I like for snare drum sounds. Cool drums though, no doubt.

  • @bbfoto7248

It's weird, man! They all kind of sound like snare drums!!!??? What's up with that?!
With different heads, and different tuning, different sticks, and various muffling techniques, you can pretty much get the sound you want from almost any snare. Sure, the type of hoops matter, too...AND THE Player!
The biggest differences I've found in most snare drums is the sound of the cross stick/side stick...and sensitivity to brushes. But those will change with the variables I mentioned above as well.
The most important things to me are the quality of the throw-off/strainer, and the ease of tuning/tuning range.
But between these, my favorite was the Dunnett Copper in higher tuning.
I wish you guys would always include a side stick comparison in these videos. And a few patterns with brushes wouldn't hurt, either.
And a back-to-back comparison of a single rim shot for each drum with time for the overtones to decay would be sweet as well.

I got unsubscribed to you guys. I don't know how, but I did. I certainly didn't undo anything, so I'm thinking TH-cam might have had something to do with it. Hopefully no one else has this problem. I love your store and content.

Schagerl and both Dunnett are the ones I liked the most, Canopus nice but quite standard sound, don't understand DW: what is the added value of that carbon snare? Definitely overpriced and I'm sure won't be a top seller. Notable mention the K sweet ride, simply fantastic! Great job guys

A general observation... Why do the room mics usually sound like crap. Surely that is not how the drums sound to an auditioner in the room or the player (and yes, I called you Shirley).
