I grew up near Fairbanks, and went to college in Chicago. Watching these videos always made me so happy as I missed the interior. Now I'm back in Fairbanks, and these videos still make me happy. :)
Hi Ana! Could you do a video on where you get your lumber from, how to choose it, and what happens when you get a bad piece, I.e. warped, too knotty, green? Etc. Thanks!
I love how you include Jacob, kids and animals with scenery. When you were building your house and there were weeks with fishing & hunting trips- I enjoyed your food source info & what was critical to your family. Thank you!!🤓
Agree and thank you! I know everyone's vehicle is different but another thought is how would you ask them to cut down the wood on different projects to fit into an SUV or a car. That was my thought when you said 12 foot piece - if I have home center cut that in half, will it screw up the cuts for this particular project? I'm used to positioning pattern pieces for sewing and hate to waste material. Its like the same hurdle sometimes wondering how to get the wood home in the first place. I'm sure a lot of people let that stop them from getting started. Silly, right?
@@eurasiers I once put two sheets of plywood on top of a Porsche and even drove the highway home, the slowest you can go, 45 mph. Get some rope and have fun. Also moved a king size bed on top of it too. P.S. I now have an Envoy.
I love the fact that you stain your boards before cutting. That makes it so much easier when the wood is flat and easy to reach. I did the same before building a bed frame. It just made more sense. The bookshelves turned out modern, contemporary and beautiful. Gorgeous work!
I'm always in awe with the simplistic and doable nature of your projects. They inspired me to get out and build on the homestead and in the home. Thank you!
I believe this is my first ever TH-cam comment. I’ve been looking for bookshelves for my first house for 9 months. Nothing was what I wanted so I figured I’d make them. These are perfect! I love that I can make one for my front room, and stack two or three next to each other for my home office. So excited to start this project!
Wow... this project turned out amazing. I just stumbled on your diy videos as I vowed to put my woodworking skills back to use (thanks shop class from junior high school). My 12 year old loves working with his hands and we built this start to finish (my 6 year old even helped us sand by hand). This took much longer than expected because it has been our largest build and the first time using the Kreg Jig. But we loved it and pushed through some frustration points. I left 9in from the floor, 13.5 inches, 9 inches, and an open 6 inches at the top (also closed the top 2x2's - no top shelf closure). This was a VERY specific build to allow me some additional shoe storage on the bottom, bin storage, and jewelry storage. It turned out really great for a fraction of what a bookshelf would've cost otherwise. Thank you very much and my son and I are now following your projects (I have my eye on the bench seat for the bathroom next - for my bedroom though). Thanks so much for sharing!
Great job. Very nicely priced to. I really like the hidden chair desk to. You guys are great DYI'ers. There's no way I could do these myself. Chris from Missouri
I'm watching building of the grid and I just cant help it. You might be the most amazing woman or person even ever. Beer and a hot tub after a hard day of building. No disrespect here just respect, you have a beautiful family.
Thank you for showing that even the pro’s of the pro’s make mistakes! I love that you keep it real. I am way too hard on myself when I make a mistake. xo
Thank you for showing us how to fix that plywood mistake. The same piece could be used again? And I find it amazing how you paint and stain stuff in your good clothes and there is no paint on you afterwards. Me? I would have looked like the can exploded all over me....
Thank you for sharing your amazing story. Great love to you, your family and friends. God bless you and your family. Love your videos both the project, the landscape and your family
The color of the stain is amazing !!! I am sure you probably have a couple more projects already in mind that will work with that color... Thank you for sharing...
Very cool ! I am going to be making one or more with live edges/ends so will need to plan a angled cut to hide it but this should still work . If someone wants to hold more weight they can use cobra toggle anchors, I use them at work to hold 72 inch TVs in 5/8 drywall 3:32
I like that idea as well. I would almost make the seating portion a little lower and actually add shelving to the bottom of the chair to make the chair also double as the shelves. Love this!
I'm a mature women, have only ever put furniture together. I need shelves for fabric, boxes holding sewing necessities, and I think these will be perfect. I've been pricing drills and a saw to do repairs in my home as money is tight, to pay someone would be pretty tough on my budget. This project would be perfect, although I feel ill need 3. I want them to look good as my sewing space is going to be at the wall end of my Sun Lounge. Plenty of light to sew, Fabric in boxes and a spot for my sewing machine. I really want to do this, if I succeed, I will definitely post a pic. First to buy drill and saw.... Thank as always for another great project, and for letting folks like me have access to your plans with brilliant tutorials. It is very much appreciated as I think I can buy the electrical equipment, wood etc for the price of the Ikea I had in mind, and I'll still have use of the drill and saw! Have you any small tiling projects in mind? My kitchen is small but well planned and I need to do back splash. I was thinking of subway tiles, the smaller ones which are backed. Firstly I've never tiled before, secondly, kitchen is small, but plenty of power points. Thank you again.
Hi! I love this concept & I think wellI know I’ll be using it for my 3 year talk on putting in built in bookcases in a perfect spot for all our boxed up books & of course decorations that also double as storage. Thank you so much for sharing. Now get some rest you have looked a little tired. You have just not looked your usual energetic self. A baby that is on the run & in general family that is growing will do that to the best of us. Rest or just a little time to yourself everyday should help. I hope.😏 I’m still hiding in my closet daily. Lol! I actually hiding right now from a pile of laundry. 😊
Thank you for creating inexpensive beautiful projects that a regular person can do and for keeping the "oops" in the video!! I always have one and now I don't feel so bad.
Hi Ana , yet another great and economical project to build. Loved how it came together - simple enough . Also, The color stain you selected was really nice. Thumbs up!!!👍😀 Ps. Can't wait till next monday.
Love the book shelves. I definitely dont have all the tools you have but im pretty sure I can figure out a way to do this with what I have. TFS your amazing at what u do. I'm pretty new to your channel. I love what I have seen so far❣ God bless😊
Hi Ana! I really enjoy your ideas and videos, so inspiring!!! Total beginner here with a question... I want to build something like this (but lower) for toy storage for my kids. However, I'm worries (actually, I'm sure!) that they will climb on it. How can I make sure the shelf is stable enough to survive younger kids?
Idea for future video, trip to lumber / hardware store with tips and what to look for when selecting wood, types of wood for different projects and choices which boards 👍🏽
at 12.00 to remove the plywood with out damaging it, it would have been easier to use a painters scraper flat bar it dose the trick and it wouldn't damage the wood with out to much notice! just a lil note for ya FYI but great work Ana and Jacob
Thank you so much. I'm getting ready to build my first custom shelf and I'm terrified. I think this will be what I do because it looks so good, and also looks attainable. I'm going to get a pocket hole jig today. Wish me luck =)
Beautiful build!! I think I’d probably use 2x3 for the vertical and use 2 screws for each corner because I would like use put books, which are much heavier, instead of just decor Thanks for sharing 😃
Thanks for the project Ana, it's perfect and just what I was needing to organise my makeup addiction :-) Definitely going to make 2 of those too =D xoxo
I'm going to be making shelves for books with a backing to make the wall more sound proof. So I can see a way to adapt your design . thank you ! I just had to Sub.
I just might do these, although a tweak I would do is to angle the front a touch (5 degrees or so) to match the look of a few other pieces we have. Honestly, I think I saw something quite similar in one of the West Elmy type shops for $300-$400, so your version is a bargain by a factor of 10
You seem to have very good mastery of SketchUp. Did you teach yourself this software? I have done a few projects in SketchUp but certainly struggle with the more complex concepts.
Thanks Ana the best inexpensive idea for humans without a job and money. I am very grateful for your ideas and kindness. Love it...
You are so welcome!

I loved the honesty and humanity of this video. Beautiful work and family. Thank you always!
Hi Ana! Could you do a video on where you get your lumber from, how to choose it, and what happens when you get a bad piece, I.e. warped, too knotty, green? Etc. Thanks!
Yes! I can do that! I’ll start talking about it more too in the videos and maybe add a little shopping section to videos in the beginning .....

It is always nice to see how to deal with mistakes and how to do things when you don't have someone else to hold things.
I love seeing that you still make mistakes. I am so hard on myself when I screw up. I'm at ease now. Lol
Keeping it real! Thanks for reminding me that others have one of those days as well. 😉
I adore the way you, Ana, and your husband work together. The family touches are beautiful too! Keep it up Ana. You are amazing.

I love the simplicity of this book shelf. On my lust of things to build one day!
Nice phrase: "-my lust of things-" :D
Love these shelves. And love the light colored stain. Thanks so much Ana and Jacob for another amazing video.

Nancy, a pocket hole jig is really handy and the more simple Kreg jig is not very expensive.
This is a life saver when you need one the most!
Great job. Very nicely priced to.
I really like the hidden chair desk to. You guys are great DYI'ers. There's no way I could do these myself.

Great job as always. You inspire me to make more things for around the house and now I'm saving up to buy a poket hole jig for my shop.

Pre-painting and staining is a great time saver and improves the ease of the project. Good point on the glue.
Thank you for showing the mistakes and how you fixed them! So helpful! Keepin' it real - I love that!

You have a nice family, that said, another way you might have done it was 1 x 4 strips behind each shelf, so nothing slides off. Gave me a great idea
Love the bookshelves Ana...you are amazing and so inspiring!!!
You are too kind. Thank you for watching our video!
@@AnaWhiteDIY ...and let's add humility to that list!
This is a well designed shelf unit. I love it.
You have an outstanding family.
Thank you for posting this! I'm hoping to make a couple of these myself! I love how you show your mistakes along the way and how you corrected it.
I love the desk with the built in chairs really nice and different.
Those homeschool hidden desk chairs are amazing. You could have the faux drawers be cabinet doors and stash baby toys, supplies, etc, inside.
Wow, how beautiful your furniture is...great work!
Yeah Jacob!! Great reminder. You guys rock.
I may need to make this for my new office. Thank you for all your awesome ideas.
Thank you so much. I love your projects. I want to make the headboard with the storage bench you made for you mudroom into a bed.

Thanks for the tip!
I’ve had to use the scraper more than once.
In commercial concete forming a flat scraper bar is a huge help and great for adjusting and levelng and to squeeze a tight cut in to place!
I find the curve blade of a linoleum knife often works great when a metal putty knife doesn't quite do it.
A pudy knife is a lil to flimsy for comercial concrete forming lol
