    I have one of these, a 2016 E350d AMG Line Edition. Apart from the stupid 19” wheels with 30 profile tyres that ruin the ride on the terrible country roads in the UK and crack if you go over any potholes bigger than a thimble, it’s fantastic. After 3 welds and a buckled wheel, I’ve swapped for 17s. The car is transformed. 2016 was the final year of production but you also get Apple CarPlay which is brilliant. 50+ mpg on motorway journeys is useful too.

    JJ, a brief update to let the channel know I've just purchased a 2016 E400 coupe. A beautiful example, only 33km on it, fully loaded with all option packages. A solid deal $ wise for a car with this low mileage and well optioned! This really is a great era of car - very solid build and the materials inside are fantastic (especially when compared with the newer E coupes). The size of the car is nice too, being built on the C chassis.
    Your video was helpful during my research process.

    A fantastic review. Thank you JJ. Agreed, this car is spot on and now in it's sweet spot age. I tend to find myself on my third car from the ~2015 era and that has to do with the interaction with the infotainment. Enough technology there to provide all the functionality required, without a massive screen dominating the dashboard. And that pillar-less side profile...can't be beat!

      The centre placed speedo was a unique Mercedes touch giving a sports car feel. I was lent a new one years ago for a day and would have loved to have bought it. Lovely driving position within a capacious luxury cabin. My only bugbear, too much aluminium finishers.

    • @monk3yboy69
      @monk3yboy69 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually no, the interiors of this particular Mercedes are shocking .
      The leather ( fake leather ) splits .
      The seats are terribly uncomfortable.
      The dash is functional but ever so dull.
      The beauty of this car lies in the exterior and the drive. As long as it’s a petrol.
      The diesels are awful unless you opt for a 6 pot and can put up with the noise.
      But if it’s fuel economy you’re after then the diesel has to be the choice.
      I love these to look at but would not be able to live with the interior.

    Nice review JJ, I’ve been fortunate to own the pre facelift E500 for a couple of years now the NA V8 actually the first Mercedes I’ve ever bought and had no idea what an awesome vehicle I was getting. My Mercedes AD tell me it’s rarer than hens teeth in the coupe form and haven’t had one in. I actually thought they were blowing smoke up my proverbial but when it goes in they repeat what a fantastic car it is ie compared to that era of E63 saloons which by comparison are two a penny. Mine is not straight piped or molested in any way whatsoever saving an upgrade to factory 19” AMG alloys. I realise you may not wish to review another E class so soon but the offer is there regardless kind regards Kev

    Also, this is a heavily optioned car. Make sure you buy a used heavily optioned E Class. It could originally add 30K/25£. This C Class, I mean E Class coupe is more expensive used and the reliability isn't great/cheap. There is a reason they are affordable. All the crap you have to do. Transmission, brakes, sparkplugs on most versions and wait until the seals and the airbag module fails. About 8K to maintain just that in a 12K car.

WHAT A DUAL CLUTCH automated manual Trans?? this car had. with 255 or almost 260 TIRES in rear wheels. REAR wheel drive.. and A LOOOKER. Go and get one you won't be disappointed. Beautiful, fast smooth car, when you put all the windows down you get so many looks.
      Mine is 2011 so has the slightly different front and is now on 220,000 miles
      I've had two issues which are standard problems across all Mercedes models for the engine I have (om642)
      - leaking oil cooler and leaking injector seals.
      Oil cooler is quite a big job, cost £1000 but I drove around for about 9,000 miles with it leaking so it's not like it has to be done immediately.
      Injector started to leak around 180,000 miles.
      These are standard problems you'll get if you drive any mercedes from that era with that engine. It's not model specific.

      Yes, you're totally right. Although my own car is a Mercedes, it's an older one that you don't see around so much. It's always a big part of how I choose a car - I want something unusual. We do seem to love a German car here don't we.

      From around 2011 Mercedes decided it was going into the volume sales market which accounts for the numbers on the road. In 2012 the new A-Class redefined their market appeal taking on BMW’s 1 Series. It’s a shame that a once premium prestige brand has become so commonplace on our roads, but considering that in its home market, Germany, it was always as common as a Ford in the UK, that’s to be expected. For the UK market it’s one of three choices for a decent brand - Audi, BMW, or Mercedes. That’s marketing for you.

    I replaced my 1999 CLK230 Cab with a 2012 E500 Cab. When the 207 first came out there was no V8 option; E400 was top of the line. But just before the 2013 facelift, they started fitting the M278 4.7TTV8 in the E500. Had mine for 3 years now, average 26mpg, can get 32 on a long run. 14mpg in London traffic! Drove to Siena and back last summer - the missus managed 203kph with the roof down on the autostrada! It's had a stage one remap to 510bhp and 800Nm torque at 1750rpm. And some exhaust fettling to release that glorious V8 burble. Anyways, very happy with it. Much cheaper to run than the more obvious V8 options.

One question - as I do have the CLK model just the same as in this video - how does the backspace of the E class coupe feel compared to the back seats of the CLK? • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you. Compared to my own CLK, with the sports suspension and 18" wheels (which to be fair, is the same specification as this E-Class), I'd give the E-Class a win on ride comfort. It's much less firm. It's also quieter/ more refined at speed, though the seats are not any more comfortable than the CLK.
      The E-Class is more modern, it has electric power steering which is light, though a bit heavier at higher speeds. It's a heavier car than the CLK. I prefer the 'old school' feel of the CLK to drive, you feel a little bit more like you're in charge of a real machine, but then the E-Class does a great job of shielding you from the outside world.
      Material-wise, they both feel high quality. I think perhaps the newer Merc feels a bit better. I still love my old CLK though!

      It is still safe to buy. I can't give you the full list of things to look for as I'm not a specialist, but I would say as always be sure to look for service history and a car that looks like it has been cared for. Depending on what car you had before this, it could be a little more expensive to maintain and if it breaks the parts can cost a little bit more. The AMG versions were always noisier and a harder ride due to the wheel circumference. As to costs, it’s a prestige car, initially £40k plus, so bills will equate to that. Service wise it’s not much different to a C-Class on their Service Plan. In its era it did gain the reputation of a posers car, especially white convertibles with red seats.
