    Great work. I've got all of my avocado trees in 15 gallon pots for now. Hopefully, i'll be able to plant them in my backyard in the coming years. Love your setup, and keep 'em coming

    You got a heck of a green thumb. How long have you been grafting avocados, what is your “take” percentage and how did you learn to graft? What form (height & width) do you expect your Reed to be? Have you you tried or heard of Sharwil? If so, what form do you think Sharwil will be? Thanks 🙏🏼 😊 .

    Really enjoyed your video and appreciate what you are doing with avocados. Thank you! I look forward to more of your content in the future!
    I’m in NE Florida and have been experimenting with some avo grafting here the past few years. We get some cold weather so I’ve mostly been sticking 14:24 with cold-hardy varieties like Mexicola Grande, Brogdon, Fuerte, and James Bacon. One of my trees is now composed of those four varieties all growing on a seedling rootstock i started about three years ago. I’m hoping to add another variety to it this Fall; would you like to trade some scionwood?

    Wow, most of those avocado trees fruit straight away! I have 2 Hass, 1 Bacon and 1 Wurtz. I use organic compost, chips and fertiliser, and water them most days. Hoping they start fruiting soon.

    What are the fertilizer (Organic?) your using?
    Maybe you can do an episode on fertilizing your avocado trees...

    • @socalbackyardgardener

      Mostly organic..Citritone.. Azmicote.. and his one brand sold at Home Depot which I cant recall the name but I will update when I find it. Its one if those fertilizers with the 6 micro ingredients. Thanks...yes I am long overdue on a video on fertilizing but after your request I will do so very soon

    Good video. Nice trees. This is becoming a passion of mine. What type of wood chips do you use under your trees and where do you get it?

    • @socalbackyardgardener
      @socalbackyardgardener  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      crashes82 I get it from my local landfill. It about $7 a truck load but I don’t have my truck anymore so I pay $1 per bag or container regardless if size. Not sure of the type but I have seen ppl use the ref bark mulch or Coco shells. Thanks for watching. I got all of my information from TH-cam.

    I just planted 2 avacado trees in half whiskey barrels similar to yours. And tips for drainage. They have 4 large holes at the bottom but I feel it’s not draining super well.

    • @socalbackyardgardener
      @socalbackyardgardener  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Scott Williams what kind of soil? It could be retaining too much water if it is a soil with too much organic matter. Search TH-cam and watch Garys videos on growing avocados. He is from Laguna Hills nursery

    • @socalbackyardgardener

      Maddock nursery in Fallbrook is the best and cheapest. Make sure to visit the growing fields not the main nursery! I have a contact number for a guy who can tell you what they gave available.. much more varieties than Home Depot. I have a few trees from Home Depot that are thriving but it's best to replace the soil

    Unfortunately due to the Citrus Greening Disease ( Huanglongbing aka HLB ) it is illegal for us to ship personally propagated citrus trees outside of our quarantine area. The potential to spread this deadly disease by sharing cuttings is too great. For more info en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citrus_greening_disease also see th-cam.com/video/gqyQZSKHyBQ/w-d-xo.html . My compliments to your wonderful collection of avocado trees and how you have saved some of them when they were in decline.

      I lost all but one Bacon this year and strangely it is a darker green shiny skin and a lot larger than last year. Its weird. I wish I could post a picture. Btw I think the Reeds taste best followed by Hass.

      @@socalbackyardgardener I picked 2 or 3 at time, and rescued the ones the squirrel's dragged away. They took about three weeks to ripen. They were way different than store bought in texture and taste. I would say they were similar to Hass, but lighter.
