      The GEM looks good the JB about half as good. As these were from La Verne's I washed about 2/3s of the woody planting mix off the roots prior to planting. While this helps prevent root root, initially it sets them back. What do you know about the Julia variety?

    • @johnnysworld-backyardorchard
      @johnnysworld-backyardorchard  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@frankyancy1347 I don't like the woody planting mix a lot of these trees come in as well. What I read about the Julia is that it is a seedling of Nabal and it is suppose to be a sweet avocado with excellent flavor. Its fruiting season is between August and November but sometimes goes into December. It is suppose to have a rather thin skinned, very small to medium large seed, ovate to pear shape, green hard and soft. The reason I did not buy one is that I read somewhere that it fruits heavy one year than has little production for several years afterwards. It is suppose to be an excellent tasting avocado. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Johnny just subbed to your channel. I just wanted to let you know how far I had to travel for my gem. I drove from houston Texas to Santa Ana, California. Talk about a drive! It took me and my daughter 3 days. I dragged my daughter with me but we got my GEM. I still have to plant it. I"m having trouble finding the grow pro pots with handles just wondering did you ever get any and if you did> where? thx

    • @johnnysworld-backyardorchard

      Hi Cindi: Wow, I thought my drive was far, but I am impressed that you drove so far to get your GEM. Congrats on getting the GEM! Hope you and your daughter had a nice road trip. I never got around buying a grow pro pots but I believe you can buy them online. I just planted by GEMs in 15 gal or the 24" box. Hope your GEM produces a lot of great fruit for you and your family! Thank you for your sub, for watching and for your comment!

      Yes gem can take go at least as cold as hass but any avo young tree should be covered or heat for first few years or more, anything around 33 degree or colder should be protected or if planted close to house that can help, i have gem trees for sale in central valley but they are not cheap.

    I’ve seen a few avocado grower youtuber in the south CA area getting the Gary’s best top pot potting soil... is it that good?

    • @johnnysworld-backyardorchard
      @johnnysworld-backyardorchard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi PrimoNF: It is a bit pricey but it is really good soil with no organic material in the soil like wood chips. I recently tried buying a cheaper citrus, cactus, palms mix and it contained a lot of the woody material, so I really do like Gary's best top pot. I know you can mix your own soil, but I like the simplicity of just buying it.

      @@SenzuBeaner Hi PrimoNF: I have used foxfarm ocean forest but not happy frog. I remember foxfarm ocean forest being a bit pricey as well. Someone at the nursery where I bought it told me it was good for avocado trees. I'm not sure what exactly are in Gary's Best. I have read any cactus and palm soil mixes are good for avocados due to such soil being well draining. Good luck planting!

    Hello everyone. Please anyone can help me i have a 7.yrs old Avokadu tree it is to big tree but still don't have fruit .what can I do to get fruit ? ? ? My tree is from seed and not grafting .

    • @johnnysworld-backyardorchard
      @johnnysworld-backyardorchard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello: if you grew the avocado tree from seed, it may take about to 10 years or more to fruit and there is no guarantee it will fruit. That is why a lot of people buy grafted avocado trees with a known variety that fruits. Good luck with your avocado seedling, hope it produces fruit one day. Thank you for watching!
