Mones horrible, I gotta replace all the speakers the only 1 that works sonewhat is the driver side door speaker 🤣🤣🤣 bought it used tho n ficing er up. But do u know how much a decent sound system costs for the complete package + instillation? Do u have the same problem figured u do since u mentioned the rattle.
Sorry no I don’t. I don’t have this type of system. I have a regular box. Was thinking of doing something similar to this type of setup. Just figured it would rattle like crazy though and wanted to get confirmation. Thanks for the reply
Hey I really appreciate your 4Runner videos. I've been able to replace my headunit, add USB ports, change out all my speakers, and subwoofer all thanks to you! Very much appreciated. After doing some research, I now understand how to wire a 4-channel amp to run 3-channels. It seems a 4-channel amp is significantly cheaper than a 5-channel. AHave you had any issues with no front-to-rear fade? Any long term issues with heat using that amp in the factory location? I'm thinking of powering my speakers and sub off of a JL Audio JD400/4 in the future. Thanks again!
We purchased it second hand on ebay as they can by pricey if you find one new. www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2009-TOYOTA-4-RUNNER-SUB-WOOFER-SPEAKER-AMPLIFIER/282968648531?hash=item41e23eeb53:g:ZscAAOSw7~Va~I2s
Hi! I am doing exactly the same upgrade on my 4 runner' everything has been good except for the sub woofer I am not able to find the right way to hook the wires. I have trayed. Different ways but doesn't work. It is to hard to see how you did it on this video. Please can you tell me the correct way to connect the sub woofer on the amplifier? Thanks
Provo Beast Audio Installation I am using exactly the same parts you used on this video . Except the radio which is a AVH2300 next. Please let me know where I can see the diagram to wire up the sub properly? Thanks
Provo Beast Audio Installation never mind. I already got it. I was not wiring the sub properly... Now last night I performed. Test to make sure everything wa working properly which it was.. but today in there morning I realized that the door speakers are not working... I already test one by one on different channels and don't work.. is there any door speaker that you recommend for this set up please? Thanks
I know this is old but I was wondering. I have a JBL 4runner however I want to run this same amp and sub that you installed. Are these parts and steps in the video all I need or do I still need the JBL interface?
For the wiring with the door speakers, did you just wire them straight up to the 9 wire connector to the factory wiring harness, or did they still go to the radio?
9 conductor went from the amp to the wiring harness behind the radio. We wired into the harness which went to the doors, utilizing the factory copper 18 gauge speaker wire.
thanks for the reply.. i recently installed all 4 speaker in my 4runner ( they all worked with the stock stereo) , i realize that the amp is no longer gonna be necessary. so i just decided to install a new double Din stereo ( PIONEER FH-X730bs). when went to start it i realize that the front speakers are only playing as tweeters. so whats the issue there? can you help me out? i used all METRA wiring harnesses to avoid any confusion or cutting or stock wiring ..
Sounds like you may have the wrong harness, the factory amplifier, or an issue with connections. If you have the JBL system, you may need a different harness. Recheck your connections. Check the connections on your new speakers.
the harness i used was the 70-1761. and the 4runner did not some with equipped with the JBL package. the front doors , however, have factory tweeter. can it be possible that passive crossover system only works with the stock stereo and not the PIONEER? (it worked fine with the stock stereo)
Hi, thanks for the vid, really helpful to get thinking of what I want to do. QQ, did you have to trim the subwoofer enclosure to fit the amp? the new amp is about 2" longer than the JBL amp.
Provo Beast. I need your help for my 1998 Jeep ZJ. The upgraded factory sound system sounds awfully tired. Every time I turn the bass up it sounds like pogo sticks...for real. I don't need anything too earth shaking, but I need SOMETHING. Your help is much appreciated. P.S. Sweet video!
Very nice and informative video!! I have a couple of questions: Are you running 4 speakers Plus the Sub off the one amp? And if so do you have a wiring diagram? I want to do the same set up for my Wife's Jeep. I'd like to see how you wired the RCA's to the head unit for the Sub and Door speakers. Thank you!!
For the front two channels on the amp, i ran all four speakers in parallel (front right / rear right on one channel, front left and rear left on the other channel) brining the 4 ohms speakers to a final impedance of 2 ohms at the amp. Each channel @ 2 ohms was producing 150watts, or 75watts at each speaker. Then the other two channels i bridged together to a single channel for the subwoofer, running at 4 ohms bridged.
Did you use the factory component speakers or did you replace? I have the factory jbl system and I'm going to change out the jbl sub(blown) and amp soon. Wondering if I could do what you did and keep my same components.
I have a 2004 SR5 so it doesn't have a subwoofer in it right now but I would like to install one. I like the place that it is at in the Limited and I have a place in mine to install in there. Is there a subwoofer that comes in a box that would fit in that spot? Or would I have to make one myself? Would appreciate the help
There wasn't an aftermarket box we could find readily available to fit the location where we installed our sub, so we ended up purchasing the old JBL enclosure to make it work for us. If you want to fit anything bigger than an 8" in that location, you most likely will need to build a box.
After watching the video, I bought the 8" Comp R for my 2005 Limited. I had to remove a lot of the inside reinforcement-baffles due to the extra depth and diameter of the speaker magnet. I made it work but I would highly recommend getting a 1 inch spacer or a shallower depth speaker.
Couple of questions: What part number is it for the factory box you used? Also, I got the dimensions for the Pioneer amp you used but the amp I want to use it about an inch deeper. (Similar width) I don't think it will work in that location..thoughts?
These videos are awesome. I didn't realize it would be this easy to do a new sound system in my Runner. I have an 05 limited with the JBL factory sound system. Do you know if I already have this subwoofer enclosure?
Possibly, play something in your 4runner and go listen by that back panel for a sub. Generally, if you have the JBL system, you usually have the factory sub as well.
Unfortunately, you cannot just purchase the enclosure. As far as i know, nobody makes the enclosure pre-manufactured aftermarket. You may be able to find something else that fits or build your own. If you wish to use the same enclosure that I used on my video, I suggest checking ebay, that is where i purchased mine.
i installed a JL Audio 250-1 Jx amplifier and a 10' JL Audio wx in my 2016 wrx, and everytime I turn on or turn off the car I hear a thump from the subs.....How do I fix the issue and what part do I need? thank you sir🖒
I am using a Hifonics amplifier, Sound Cubed 14" woofer, and a Kenwood head-unit in my 2004 4Runner and I frequently experience this too. Any help would be great!
Double check all your grounds. Sounds like your amp is turning on faster than your sub which is causing an audible thump noise. Where do you have the remote turn on wire connected to?
Provo Beast Audio Installation Huh, my remote wire is connected from the amplifier straight to the head unit. Unlike the previous comment, my loud bass pop seems to be random, and very occasional. It almost seems as if the head unit is putting out a high, short burst of voltage. Oh well, it only happens once a month or so, so not the end of the world.
For sure, you can use the amp similar in this video to do just that. The front two channels you can run 100 watts rms @ 4 ohms to your front speakers and bridge the two rear channels on the amp with produces 300 watts rms @ 4 ohms.
Shouldn’t an amp be able to “breathe” for it not to overheat? I always thought an amp was to be placed in an open area, or at least where it would catch some sort of air. I have an ‘06 4Runner and that would be a cool thing to add on to.

Wow that's nice.
You are the MAN!!!!!
Been looking for something like this for a while
Did you do a video on how to put a grill in the panel?
Where can I get the enclosure to buy
You should find the factory grill panal ??
How bad are the rattles of the plastic cover due to the sub?

did you ever cut the hole to the speaker and if so how and what did you us?
where did you find the enclosure that fits in the amp and sub woofer? Is it still in production?
We purchased it second hand on ebay as they can by pricey if you find one new. www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2009-TOYOTA-4-RUNNER-SUB-WOOFER-SPEAKER-AMPLIFIER/282968648531?hash=item41e23eeb53:g:ZscAAOSw7~Va~I2s
What is the mount depth for the bass speaker
Did you also upgrade all the other speakers in the doors and tweeters?
Awesome video. I have a runner with 3rd row as well and I was planning on doing this as well.
Another great video! Keep up the good works.
great clean install!
Did you have the factory JBL before you did this? If it has JBL which hsrness is needed to bypass the amp and where is it located
exelent video..!!Excusme, one cuestion? i have a 4runner 2006 how can i get the base for the speaker and amp? i like the idea?

I have the factory sub already installed in mine but the woofer has blown. is there anyway to keep it stock but just replace the woofer?
Sure thing! I would just check the impedance of the old woofer to make sure that the new one you get has the same ohm load to be safe with your amp.
Provo Beast Audio Installation I was wondering the same thing. How do you check the impedance level?
For the wiring with the door speakers, did you just wire them straight up to the 9 wire connector to the factory wiring harness, or did they still go to the radio?
9 conductor went from the amp to the wiring harness behind the radio. We wired into the harness which went to the doors, utilizing the factory copper 18 gauge speaker wire.
I have to say very clean great install well done
Another great vid! Sorry if I missed it in the video but how many feet of power wire is it from the battery to the amp?
About 20ft
If I’m replacing my factory JBL sub and play on using the factory amp for the time being does it matter which I get out of dual 2-ohm and dual 4-ohm?
Hi, where can I find the JBL 4ruuner subwoofer part?
How does the amp get ventilation??
It doesn't I was thinking the same thing lol
Will this fit in a 2003?
damn i would have not even worried about the speaker panel, looks better with everything exposed
How bad does that panel vibrate with the bass?
It's not bad actually, and post video we added sound deadening anyways.
helpful video.. I'm installing a 4 channel amp on my 4runner. do i need to run 2 separate RCA's for front and back? or is 1 enough ?.. thanks
Yep, two separate sets of RCA cables, or a set of 4 channel RCA cables.

No, the crossovers are mounted on the speakers themselves. I would check how your wired the speakers.
Hi, thanks for the vid, really helpful to get thinking of what I want to do. QQ, did you have to trim the subwoofer enclosure to fit the amp? the new amp is about 2" longer than the JBL amp.
Nope, we chose this pioneer as it would fit in the factory amp location. If it is too big, you can fit it under the passenger front seat.
How big is the volume of this OEM sub enclosure (what is the number)? How is the bass quality?
Almost 1 cuft
Why did you do a 4-channel amp and not a 5-channel amp?
What speaker did you replace the old one with?
We linked it all in the description
How deep of a subwoofer can you fit in there?
that is a real nice setup sir great video

We eventually replaced them, yes. They sounded fine on factory speakers, but the factory ones cannot handle much power before distortion.
in what outlets do i plug the RNCA wires in the back of the deck?
RNCA? If its for the sub, you just want to connect your RCA cables to the SW (Subwoofer) output.
I have a 2004 SR5 so it doesn't have a subwoofer in it right now but I would like to install one. I like the place that it is at in the Limited and I have a place in mine to install in there. Would you be able to fit a regular comp r 8” to replace the factory sub in the limited, or do you need the compact sub?
possibly, but you may have mounting depth issues. So you may need to make a spacer or trim inside the box depending on the size of the magnet.

Yes

Part Number: 86150-0W040
There is plenty of space under neath the front seats as an alternative location for the amps.
Ok, cool. Toyota gave me 86150-0W090 but it's cool to know 040 works also.
Under the seats sounds good too. Thank you for the info.
One more quick question: What speaker grill did you use?

Shouldn’t an amp be able to “breathe” for it not to overheat? I always thought an amp was to be placed in an open area, or at least where it would catch some sort of air. I have an ‘06 4Runner and that would be a cool thing to add on to.
In general, yes! However, Class A/B amps generally run much warmer than Class D amps, and this amp was a class D which was a bit more safer to use in this tight area. We haven't had any reports of overheating at all.
You should get a 5 channel instead bro🤨
What does a 5 channel benefit? Sorry I’m looking to install a new sound system in my 08 4runner and trying to learn.
He was using a dvc sub so he should've used a dual channel in the rear and then had a separate 5 channel/4 channel in the car.
I was thinking the same thing.
Actually, I would use 2 amps; 1 for subs and another for the mids and highs.
That would be cool if you’re in Dallas to install my 4 channel amp in my Camry. I don’t want to pay shop prices
Nice job
👍
