@@Crocheniacs I've not changed the pattern for the Octopii's came out 2 sizes & the Whales 2 sizes all done abit thicker yarn & bigger hook size only tried it since watching you video it does work & ive tried also adding increase rounds.
It's cool to see how the amigurumi comes out with the chenille yarn. I experimented also a lot and used the hobbii rainbow 8/8 and 8/6 to compare the sizes of the amigurumi. I made the wolf from picapau and of course the hobbii rainbow 8/8 was bigger as the 8/6 - I also used different hook sizes (3mm vs. 2.5mm). So you can play around with thinner/thicker yarn and different hook sizes to get smaller/bigger amigurumi. You also can do mini amigurumi with lace yarn and the fitting hook. First of all, everytime it comes to amigurumi you go at least one hook size down from the recommended on the label and it also depends on your tension.
Yeah, it is super interesting to try out different yarns to change the size of the final amigurumi! Awesome that you did do many tests! I have never used the rainbow 8/6 or 8/8 from Hobbii, but it is on my wishlist for sure! 😘
Hi Bianca - I have never heard of both end crocheting but will definitely give it a try. I tend to use acrylic yarn for most of my amigurumi regardless of the pattern suggestions. Love the sizing - always a surprise!
I'm wanting to do the same go bigger, im from the UK love crocheting. I use alot of DK yarn will that work?? im not quite confident to sell my things. The plushy yarn it rather expensive here im not a business just a hobby of mine that I love to do. ❤
I feel like Plush yarn is rather expensive in many places! In my home country, people barely crochet with that kind of fiber because it is SUPER expensive! You asked about using DK yarn, and yes it works. If you're working in a pattern that asked for a fingering yarn and you want it bigger, a DK yarn can give you that result too.
@Crocheniacs hi flower thankyou for your reply the reason being is I wouldn't really want to altering any patterns if I can help it, so far I've made 2 whales, 2 octopus, 1 bee, 2 chubby mushroom & 2 sea turtles but I'd like to make the turtles bigger with different style shells. it's harder getting patters ive only got my phone but got a printer get back into reading pattern, im writing them all out by hand so far do you have any suggestions on that ☺️💜.
Changing yarn and hook sizes is a my go to. I don't like to crochet with both strands, my yarn always go tangled. I do so only if I don't have 2 skeins of same yarn. Plus its optional to combine different colors together for a very cool effect and ombre color change. My another go to is to separate strand of yarn if I want a smaller size.
Instead of using both ends of yarn (inside pull and outside pull), you can use inside pull and the loop method for doubling the yarn……same result without the tangles and skein spinning.❤
Have you ever used any of these techniques before? Do you have other tips to change the size of the amigurumi without changing the pattern?
No I haven’t done this cause I didn’t know how to change the size so for this first time

Which yarn do you use when you separate the strands? I tried with a couple of brands here, but they start to break very easily when I did that.
@@Crocheniacs I use mercerized cotton "Teddy's - Emma Cotton" (Its 50 gr 125 m)
