  • ✔️ About the Episode:
In this episode, we are making #2 our #1 priority! We have traveled to over 200 RV Campsites across the country in all Lower 48 States, and what we are about to show you here in this video is the only time we had issues with our poop hose situation.
We are going to look at three examples of non-standard RV sewer hose connection issues and we hope that this will help you in your future RV travels. We will be looking at the first instance where the Outlet on the RV is level with the sewer intake receptacle (Pipe). The next instance is where the RV is lower than the RV campsite sewer receptacle. This is where a Macerator will be used. The final example we will show is the use of a Free Dump Station with sewer hose provided to use. Lets just say, Free comes at a cost as you will see.
We hope you enjoy and please share your stories, tips, and advice as well!

Pop hilarious……. RV’ing 14+ years and I don’t recall having any stories this funny……. However the Movie “RV” helped me to think about my situation so I wouldn’t become a Robin Williams double 😂😆

For your poop distance/level problem, as you did mention, a macerater and a dedicated “black” hose works.

My brother just bought that exact macerator pump, he cut off that useless cigarette lighter portion
Srink wrapped the wires, we hooked it up to a battery it worked perfectly

Don't need to cut the wires. Buy a couple pre-made electrical extensions with the plugs on them. Mount the maserator direct to the RV. Thats the way we do it with our 37' class-a.

We were in Mississippi camping and we were emptying the black tank into the portable tote well the hose popped off at the tank and we had a mess everywhere..I ran grabbed the Lysol was spraying the concrete pad Gordon had the water hose washing it away...what a mess..😂

Have you seen this macerator system, it works differently to others in that it's powered by water pressure not electricity. I've not used it myself but think I'll be investing in it for next season.

The hose shrunk because the grey valve was closed and creating a vacuum. You must leave the grey or black valve open.

Fun video! I am a Plumber by trade, so I have a few poop stories of my own. But in my fiver, I installed a cigarette lighter near the waste connection. Ran heavy gauge wire, fused, directly to the battery. When I need to use a macerator I just plug it into the cig lighter. Boom , done. Keep up the videos! Looking forward to how your campground turns out!

we only had this problem once and what saved us was those lego-like levelers, we had enough to put under the tires and pyramid them to raise our travel trailer to have a down flow... not fun because our manual jacks only go to far to we had to find rocks and things to use the manual stabilizer jacks! good times!

you should always do your black water 1st then your gray water. you use the gray water to back flush your black water tank, or use it to rinse out your hose.

I would’ve used macerator on both, also the recpro version says 12amp max draw, so a small motorcycle battery or ac/dc adapter with and extension cord would be better than the rats nest of cables. We all have extension cords and a secondary portable battery (some people have those huge jump starters/compressors with them) would have secondary uses. Mine huge jumper stopped working years ago, took out the battery, and use it for all kinds of things.

💩As a newbie so many years ago I still pass on my poopsie. The RV tank connection was behind the sewer location so the hose had to go forward. I used a clear 90 deg turn to face the hose in the right direction and made sure the connections were secure. I did "black tank first" and, since the elbow locked in place by turning it clockwise, the weight of the "stuff" immediately turned it counter-clockwise and released it from the RV. Really a bad mess...😧

Couple of thoughts… 1) If insisting on using this new configuration, figure out how to enclose the gap in the intake stand pipe and the discharge garden hose. That gap allows contaminated air to escape when the screw plug is off. And possibly an accidental hose coming back out on its own since not really secure. 2) Skip the macerator idea and carry with you a 28 gal Camco dump tank on wheels. Comes with a short sewer hose and multiple connectors. Then your only problem is to rig up a ramp to get it as high as the stand pipe when you gravity dump its contents ,,, 28 gal at a time. It can be strapped to your ladder when travelling.

We used to have a camper that had enough ground clearance that enabled me to put a Tee fitting in the sewer pipe, before the valve, and that put the macerator in line with the trailer and not sticking out to the side. That way I could leave the macerator attached and avoid the mess of disconnecting it from the sewer and back in it's plastic case, and I still had the regular sewer output too, so that I could still use the slinky when appropriate.
I also added a valve just before the macerator so that I could close it off when using the regular output and slinky. I wired the macerator permanently to the battery (fused of course) and just attached the switch and it's cord when necessary. Most times I put the tote tank in the back of the truck and use slinky to empty at the dump station (we've got one of those that has the valve on the side of the tote tank)
We didn't RV much in freezing weather though, so the macerator was ok being exposed. I did have to add a bit of support to handle the weight of the macerator though. It was pretty easy to fabricate a support from some scrap steel I had, and I just screwed it to the frame of the camper. Oh, and I extended the switch cable long enough to reach the bed of my truck so that I could monitor the filling of the tote. Very important.
Great job on this video. I enjoyed it a lot.
    God bless.

It's always a great idea to wear rubber gloves when handling poop stuff but it's equally important not to touch anything except the poop stuff with said gloves that includes hands-on hips with gloves. This is just a friendly hint at something I saw in the video.

Just a few after the fact comments. Hope you don’t mind. Camping World doesn’t charge to dump near us. Why did you not flush out the black tank at camping world or did you just not show it? Flush king is a winner. You could have connected the pump at the starter stud and metal at the generator for power if you can get to it. If you use that long wire on the macerator for very long, you will burn up the motor. You create a lot of voltage drop running that far with small wire. So, the amps will go up and overheat the motor.
    Best wishes and happy holidays.

Belp are too funny. I've had a few poopsies, too. The cheap hoses have a tendency to develope leaks while draining. A couple of times, when draining into the blue tote, the hose end has popped off. Pam, I know it takes a couple of showers to get clean.

Hi Bruce! Great Question. We wanted to find a way to not move the RV. With both rigs parked, it would have been pretty tough trying to move them around to get level with the sewer pipe for a gravity flow. Believe us, we were as close as we could get without damaging anything. 😀 We definitely learned a lot through this. Best, Pam & Lee

Another excellent video. I've been RVing since 2021 with my Reflection 28BH 5th wheel. I reviewed, demonstrated and disassembled a similar macerator pump on my TH-cam channel last year- Fix Tinker Review Repeat. Here's a link to the video:
    th-cam.com/video/191WiF2EQh0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=aeg2zopaiBfAhEWS
I use the macerator at my home base to discharge waste into my septic system - Works perfectly for that purpose. You did a great job figuring things out. It's best to avoid running the pump with little liquid flow and I advise to connect it directly to the tank outlet. Two reasons is that the macerator blades need the solids to be suspended in liquid to efficiently chop them into tiny pieces. Think of it similar to running your food processor with dry stuff in it. Also the pump impeller is made or rubber and needs liquid to lubricate it as it rubs against the pump housing. The extension cord is the best solution and you eventually worked that out. Always enjoy you videos! Best wishes for the holidays!

The macerater pump draws a lot of amps. The supplied wire just barely works if you hook it directly to a battery. It may over heat and stop after 15 minutes. Think about moving the truck close by. If you extend the wire, you must use a large gage wire like 12 or even 10 gage. Do not use the cigarette plugs. They will overheat. Good luck.
